Galaxy Nexus speaker - no sound - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a really strange problem - my phones speaker has stopped playing all notification sounds and ringtones, but the earpiece speaker is still functioning fine. I've tried almost everything but it doesn't seem to fix it. I've tried:
-Reflashing the image from Google official
-Flashing a non-official image
-Wiping and flashing the Google image
-Those applications that "force" sound out of the speaker in case a headset is in.
Has anyone here had any similar issues and any success resolving it?

In a call, does loudspeaker work?
I had the opposite problem. My earpiece wouldn't work, but my loudspeaker would. Sent back to where i got it from, they deemed to faulty and sent out a replacement.

Nope - it thinks it is on the loudspeaker but there is just silence. Pity, the warranty has recently run out for me! I might have to crack it open and make sure nothing is loose.

You may need a replacement then as it sounds like you've tried all other attempts, just had a look on ebay and they are fairly cheap anywhere from $10-20 for a replacement speaker.

same thing just happened to my phone. Was playing a game when the sound was cutting in and out. Noticed later that the sound from the speakerphone stopped working completely (i can still use the headpiece or headphones).
Is the speaker/vibration assembly connected by one cable? I assume if the phone still vibrates and the headphone jack works, it's just a problem with the speaker and not some kind of connection problem.

i have this problem. Fix with SoundAbout app.

[Q] Ear Speaker not working.

The ear speaker stopped working a few days ago, whenever I make or get a call, no sound whatsoever comes from the phone. I've had the phone for five months, and didn't drop it, so I'm not sure why this occurred. I tried resetting the phone, flashing the RUU, and installed a custom ROM. Nothing worked, so it's most likely a hardware issue. I tried putting the headphones on and off, but it didn't work. The external speaker + headphones are working just fine.
Are there any alternative solutions other than sending it for repair? Also, does anyone know how much would it cost to fix it?
Thanks.
any help please?

Same problem for me, it stated by low volume from the ear speaker during some calls, then i lost the ear speaker sound during the call, even that the ear speaker works with the loudspeaker when i switch to loud, and it gives the sound of the tone while dialing, but no sound in the call. I tried to use other ROMs and radios. but same problem.
Any help please
I got the same issue going on... you figure anything out?
(also i didnt check the date on this thread before posting sorry if this is really old ha)

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Microphone Quiet/Muffled (Not the same as the cutting out problem!)

Hi all,
I'm using a Galaxy Nexus on Rogers in Canada.
I'm having trouble with the bottom microphone being very quiet and muffled.
Unfortunately I'm leaning towards this being a hardware issue because:
The volume is normal and clear when recording a video and when on speakerphone (which I understand uses the top microphone)
The volume is normal when using a headset
The volume is quiet and muffled when recording in "Voice Recorder" which uses the bottom microphone.
But I thought I'd check if anyone else has had this problem before and has any ideas for a solution other a full wipe (which i'll reluctantly try next) or returning the phone.
Thanks,
-Peter
i have similar problem. everything is fine on speakerphone or during video recording. but when it's a call or audio recording it's just pops, cracks, noise.
I have had this happen a few times on calls. If I reboot my phone it goes away. It hasn't happened in a month or so. I'm running AOKP build 29 at the moment.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I have been getting this problem on the last four builds of AOKP.
People always complain that they can hardly understand when I speak.

I've got exactly same problem... it's annoying, I have this phone for over 6 months and was hoping there will be a fix for it... it also seems to be only a case when talking on the phone.
when recording all seems fine... so it must be a software problem or smth... i'm looking for a solution for a long time, checked lot's of ROMS... starting to be unbearable for me and especially for ppl on the other side

Just bumping this topic.
Did any of you manage to fix this. I have replaced the entire usb/microphone assembly on the phone from a new part, and i still get muffled voice calls through the main mic. Works fine on speakerphone or secondary mic.
I have tried many stock variations, and am attempting to revert to my stock stock telstra yakjuxw build (trying to find a copy atm).
Bump the only thing I have to possibly is that it appears more frequently with HTC DNA and landlines when I call feature phones I'm OK.

I fix my problem. The hole for the microphone is very small, and In my case, it was totally "dirty". So I just cleaned it, and all works

I use toothpick, maybe this way is not very smart but... Using toothpicks I just cleaned microphone hole. In my case microphone hole was fully packed. I also find thread on reddit about this problem, one of answer is:
I believe I may have a fix for future users who search through this forum. I read that cleaning out your headphone port can resolve this issue. If there is lint or anything in there, then it tricks the phone into thinking that the aux is plugged in and your voice won't be picked up the the mic, but the non-existent headphones. Turning on speakerphone re-routes the mic from the aux to the handset mic.

Call Sound Quality

Hello,
the sound quality is very bad. The strange thing is, the problem occurs only using the phone app. I am using the stock phone app.
Any idea? I need help. All other things are working but I can't use the phone to make calls. It sounds like distortion ... . Already the sound during ringing has the problem.
The problem only occurs with the internal front speaker. No problem if I use the rear loudspeaker or headphones.
Is there a wait to solve the problem?
Call Sample
Hello,
here is an call sample. I know the quality is not perfekt beacause of the notebook fan. I call another phone and after ringing the mailbox of the called person starts. Especially at the end were the mailbox voice occurs the problem is very clear. It is nearly impossible to understand what is said.
Is this the normal sound of the internal speaker (front)?

of course not.
Hello,
thanks for the answer. Found the following thread.

Strange thing I am also using this phone in Europe. I am quite sure the problem is not a hardware problem. Because if I use the phone with VoIP service app, the speaker just works ok.
I would try a clean flash of a custom rom, factory reset maybe (was it always bad?..)? I also had problems with the internal speaker, if I have set the volume higher than half, it made crackle sounds. But it was a hardware issue, (in skype, fring, viber also had this problem). I had to send it back to the usa, cause I live in europe and literally no one could fix it here because of the lack of hardware. I had to live without my phone for a month.. annoying thing, but now it's ok

First of the time after buying I didn't use the phone for calling. With Skype I will try again. Also the VOIP test. How did you manage the repair? With ATT or Samsung?
Its not only because of the time. Also because of the money for transport and repair.
Thanks for answering and help!

[Help] Galaxy A3 Speakers Bug

Hello my friend has a Samsung A3 2017 and he said that the speakers are not working.
He can receive calls but do not hear them incoming because Speakers have some bug. No water or phone dropped on ground / any physical problem.
I told him to try the dial code *#7353# to test the functionality.
He replied that the
1. Melody works fine, the music is played
3. Speakers doesnt work at all.
This is probably some software bug, he already resetted the device without success. Any similar problems?
Thanks in advance

I actually had the same problem in my a7 2017, just randomly the speaker stopped working. I tried factory resetting it with no success, then turned it off for a while and rebooted in secure mode. Then the speaker worked again. It happened again a couple days ago and I tried the whole secure mode again. It didn't work. Then I turned my phone off and waited a couple of minutes. Turns out that to fix the problem, you only have to turn the phone off for about 5-10 minutes and reboot. This fixes the problem, but I still don't know what causes it
Do a hard reset and restore your phone to its initial configuration.
Hard reset stepsMod Edit
In this way, any app interfering with your sound and speaker settings should be deleted.
Just had the same issue on the most recent stock 8 ROM. Turning it off for ~10min cleared the issue. Is the root cause already known by now?

Maybe headphone jack is damaged from water. Try a phone call with and without speakerphone.

Hi, sorry I missed it somehow back then and just noticed it... better late than never. The phone is actually being used w/o headphones (perhaps only by previous owner if at all). Fortunately the issue has never come back since then. When it was still there a phone call would only have one way audio while on speakerphone (Tx only) and switching to the earpiece would fix Rx.
So, I just got a SM-A520F with a similar issue - speakers simply emit loud a white noise instead of Ringtones, Notifications, Youtube, Music, etc. I tried the dial code *#7353# and was surprised to see that melody works fine.
Had no issues at first, flashed the official Lineage 17.1 - still everything a okay. I decided to try Magisk, and that's when the problem started. I went back to stock android, but the problem is still there.
Any ideas what could have gone wrong?
--Edit--
I just restarted the phone with earphone plugged in. This seems to work for now. I will see for how long this will work & report back later.
--Edit 2--
No further problems. I reinstalled Magisk, everything still seems to work. Booting the phone with earphones plugged indeed fixed the issue, hope this will may help someone in the future.

Pixel XL - No sound from speakers

Alright guys, I've got a problem I haven't quite dealt with before:
I've got no sound coming from my "external" phone speakers. The in-ear speaker works fine, and so does the mic. That means I can take phone calls just fine. Listening to Whatsapp voice messages is a challenge because Whatsapp uses the speakers which means the message plays with no sound, that is until I hold the phone to my face and the prox switch tells the app to play through the ear speaker. No YouTube videos or Snapchat sounds.
I looked around the forums and such but didn't find anything. I've checked all the system settings I know to check, but nothing I can find is "muting" the sound. My apps list is fairly standard. Stock rom and kernel, unlocked since day 1 but without even a recovery installed. Basically a factory phone.
What are you guys thinking? I'm happy to try basically anything. Even thinking of slapping a ROM into this beast to see what happens, although I doubt there's too much development going on for a 2yo phone...
Cheers!
Update:
I've got intermittent sound. I haven't opened the phone and have no reason to think water ingress could be the problem, but I can't think of a reason that the speakers would work intermittently. Sounds more like a hardware problem than a software problem to me. Anyone else?
It also happened to me except I didn't have any sound coming from both speaker and the earpiece. Not sure what happened though.

Well it only has one speaker. As for the others most likely hardware related.

Weirdly, I'm stuck in unreliable-sound limbo. I get sound most of the time, but speaker sound disappears occasionally with no predictability that I've found. Interestingly, If I mash or smack the bottom of the phone phone screen by the speakers, sometimes sound will come back on briefly or entirely. Weird, huh? Not sure what could be causing a connection problem. Maybe I'll open up the phone eventually and find out.
