[Q] What to backup before flashing CM10?

Just got an S3 and I absolutely hate the unpolished and laggy Samsung skinning of Android. I want to flash CM10, but would like to know what I should back up first in case some critical information gets lost. This is a virgin phone, no apps or user data need to be backed so no need to worry about that. However, I would like to know how to back up IMEI, device ID, etc. Is it enough just to back up the /efs partition? If not, what else should I be backing up?
Thanks in advance

Read this and this.
It was pretty overwhelming for me at first, but get through it best you can.
It's easier to do the preventative backup rather than the post repair.

Thank you! I've got experience flashing custom kernels and ROMs, so I should be ok. The only thing is that with every phone model what you need to back up is different, so I wanted to make sure I had the right stuff backed up from my stock S3 before I did anything to it.
So is an IMEI back up via QPST the only thing needed? What about device ID, and other details? Do those need to be backed up and how?

As long as your IMEI is backed up you should be OK. When I first flashed CM10 I made a Nandroid and backed up my IMEI. I have not had any issues with my IMEI or anything but I know people that have.

Just so I'm clear, you:
1) Flashed CWM recovery
2) Did a Nandroid backup of the stock ROM and backed up IMEI
3) Flashed CM10
Right?

Ever since i got my s3 never had to do anything do the IMEI... If you like wasting time i guess you can.. but if your smart with your phone you wont have to consider that extra step.. MAKE SURE U FLASH SGH-I747 roms only!!! and i mean ONLY... (tmo roms work too just make sure you change the apn settings) dont flash any other variants because they have different hardware. you will **** up the bootloader by flashing anyother variant.. Anyway back to the subject. I backup nandroid, then i use ultimate backup (like titanium backup just faster) its by jrummmy and thats it and im good to go to flash custom roms

No Offense Amzi,
but I only flashed STOCK OTA rom upgrades and some mods SPECIFIC to my i747m and I lost my IMEI a few months ago. I have tons of Android Flashing experience, and I did a lot of reading before I did my first S3 flash. My heart sank when it happened. When it happens, you lose your data connection and that's what tipped me off. And from all I have read up till now...no one knows why it RANDOMLY happens. So I would HIGHLY ADVISE to backup those files as per the link(s) I provided.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Older radio with KitKat ROM ?

While I am still trying to find out answers on getting back IMEI restore work after flashing 4.2/4.3 ROMs (see the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48918990#post48918990 for more detail on my issue), I checked with the mobile service guy about why such a thing would happen.
One of the things he said to me was that if I update just the rom files and not the boot loader I should still see a genuine IMEI instead of a generic IMEI?
Another question that came to my mind about EFS is that whether baseband versions affect IMEI restore?
Please clarify.
Thanks
Ghanashyam

No signal emergency calls only after update!!

Greetings,
Hopefuly I can get help. I updated my Oneplus 3 last night from 3.2.5 ver. To 4.0.2 ver. And after that my signal droppedd to zero. I tried reseting the phone but no luck. Im using a CDMA SIM card. It works in another phone. But no more in my oneplus 3 . Whats weird is that when I inserted a GSM SIM it worked but not my CDMA SIM. I checked the bands so its not the problem.
I tried contacting support. The told me they will scedual me for remote support. I asked what they will do. They said they will downgrade it. If any one have any idea of how they will downgrade it. I never unlocked bootloader or flashed any ROM or custom recovery. Is there a way to downgrade it without TWRP or unlocking bootloader. Can I use sideload mode to just adb install the older Oxygen OS. I found some instruction on the downloads.oneplus.net . but nothing about downgrading. Only manually flashing the ROM. I was thinking what if I just download the same ROM I'm on and just flash it that way. That if the problem was the ota update is corrupt and i need to reinstalling it.
Please someone who has experienced these methods help.
I dont want to brick my phone. Dont want to unlock the bootloader. I need to fix my problem if not the same way customer support planing to do but even less messy.
I have never tried any of these methods so please someone help. Either buy answering here or just give me some ref. Links that will give me some intel.
Thanks a lot
Use this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/guide-flashing-oos-v4-0-1-custom-rom-t3537757
Go to section D and begin from #7 and finish at #11.
Instead of using OOS v4.0.2 OTA, use the OOS v3.2.8 OTA (provided in the guide).
If you have questions, post them in that guide.
Good luck!
hi Wolf2231
i have same your problem
please if u find a solution Please tell me
thank u
Thanks alot. I didnt use this guide. Because I have a locked bootloader. And in my question I needed a way that doesnt involve unlocking bootloader, rooting,... Etc.
Eventually my problem was caused partially to an old SIM card ( I'm confused my self ). Anyways I went through a lot of work. And what I also did is restored my phone to the very first stock OOS.
But first do the most basic troubleshooting. Factory reset try it from recovery. And anything that sounds obvious.
Follow the instructions here https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/guide-mega-unbrick-guide-for-a-hard-bricked-oneplus-3.452634/
I downloaded and sideloaded OOS 3.2.8 .
I just posted the answer. If you went through any trouble using the instructions. Just ask.
I used the method (I believe method 2) that restored it to OOS 3.1.2
I also used the code *#*#4636#*#* (in dialpad )
Go to phone information and change prefered network to what is suitable.
