Or get a Desktop cradle with audio out. There are several available. Cheaper than the Note2 cradle if you don't need the HDMI connection.

Thanks for the help. For cradle I have otter case so I cannot.find compatible cradle

For the audio aspect, do these cables bypass the internal DAC like an OTG USB does on the TW roms allowing you to take advantage of an external DAC?

Didn't thought of that, I'll try it out tonight.
If you're just taking the USB cable that came with the tablet, changing it's gender and plugging something into the end, it won't work. The tablet would need to have USB Host support which this tablet does not. I believe that the Samsung USB Adapter that converts directly from the Samsung Connector to USB Female will add USB Host support (USB OTG).
Here is the USB Adapter. http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EPL-1PL0BEGSTA

All 3.1 are USB host. However, the female to female adapter doesn't do the trick.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. Honeycomb 3.1 adds SOFTWARE support for USB Host funtionality. The device has to have HARDWARE support as well. This tablet does not. That is the reason that you need a special adapter that provides USB Host HARDWARE funtionality, such as the one I listed above.

I've got my fingers crossed Samsung hasn't dicked up the Bluetooth stack on the Galaxy Tab 10.1/8.9:

Yes. There's a lot of misinformation in this thread. The tablet DOES have USB Host capability, but it will only enable it when it sees a specific resistor on a particular pin in the dock connector.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155065 for more details.
To get USB Host, there are two approaches:
1) Make your own cable with the correct resistors
2) Purchase the Samsung USB Host adapter which is now available for around $20.
Note that there are some limitations:
1) Xbox360 controllers and PS3 controllers are not standard HID devices and require kernel support not present in stock kernels. Pershoot's kernel has the necessary modules.
2) PS3 controllers must be fully charged before trying to use them. If not they will try to charge their battery from the tab and cause an overcurrent trip, disabling the port until the USB dongle is disconnected.
Also, Samsung didn't mangle the Bluetooth stack like they do with their phones, so wiimotes work.
Not working for me
Not sure if there's a specific USB setting, but I bought the adapted and it works with Chainfire's DSLR Controller no problem. I plugged in the playstation 3 remote and had no luck, nor any detection of the device. Tried running an n64 emulator to try to map the keys, no luck there either.
All of the guides seem to be using a Xoom, I'm on the brand new OTA on the GT10.1
Anyone else?

Verizon wireless corporate stores have the adapter in stock they will have to order it but last time i checked they had about 4000 in the warehouse, I hope this is helpful for those of you who are patiently waiting.

Which kernel are you running? Did you read my notes in the post prior to yours at all?
So, if i get the official USB adapter my regular wireless keyboard (Logitech Wave) should work seamlessly. Right?
I've just been using the "SixAxis Controller" app from Dancing Pixel (you can find it on the Android Market) to connect my PS3 controller to my tablet over Bluetooth. It's worked great for me (note: I use yongzh's emulators)
Hope that helps with the PS3 issues...I don't really know much about the USB adapter as I don't use it.

MHL HDMI Adapter and USB OTG Simultatneously

Has anyone tried using a Micro USB OTG adapter and MHL HDMI adapter at the same time? Is it even possible?
Thinking of watching movies off of an external drive on my HDTV with the GN. I may just have to stream them from my computer over WiFi.
Cheers

Yeah! Is it possible?
I ordered all components yesterday to test this exact thing. I will report back with my findings. I ordered the mhl adapter, HDMI cable, and the otg cable. I already have a micro SD reader that's extremely small. Total cost was $30 on amazon.... I also ordered a wii sensor bar that was around 6 bis. I'm also going to attempt to integrate the otg cable in a case. Pics will follow

I think that isn't possible. Both MHL and USB OTG uses the same microusb port, but behind that there are different circuits. Depending on wich connector you plug in the hardware will know if you are connecting an usb or a HDMI.
More, the microusb on MHL connector is only for ac supply.

From what ive read, it is not possible. Youre disabling usb to get hdmi function through 4 wires. And that function needs power.

MHL and OTG
@justin94, please report back if you get it working. Actually, if you can get OTG to work at all with or without MHL let us know. I've gotten the MHL to work. But I need to connect some USB devices up, and from what I've read, the current Nexus stock firmware doesn't support OTG/Host.
Also, what OTG cable did you order? I've heard there are ones that don't work?
waiting for an answer.
Just got confirmation of shipment the mhl adapter and HDMI cable. No estimated deliver date as of yet. Have patience people.

NO NAO~! lol. j/k
MHL will only charge the phone via USB. You can't use USB data. Bluetooth is your only option for external hardware input (controllers, etc... but not thumb drives)
I don't want to rain on your parade, but I said it would charge your phone at the same time, but it's limited to 500ma. Nexus reports as USB charging, not AC charging. So if you intend to watch a long movie and game real hard via emulation and bluetooth, your phone will run out of battery.
Another poor design decision. They should have just put a HDMI port separately. MHL fail.
The only saving grace will be using the pogo pins to charge the phone via AC so you can get 1A charging while using MHL.
MHL fail.
Update!!!
Just received the mhl adapter and HDMI cable. Its plug and play, however, it does require power..... so my hopes of getting this to work are almost over..... except that I fairly good with electronics. So I'm going to do some splicing and dicing and see what works.
Don't worry, if it works I will post a full tutorial

anxious to know how it works out. I've got the MHL and HDMI. It works but when I pulled the usb power the MHL went lights out so it may only be for power source. but you never know.

Justin94,
How do you plan to plug the MHL/HDMI adapter and USB OTG into the the GNex since it has one usb port. This has baffled my mind.
Some type of splitter configuration.

OTG Cable - Genuine or not?

Hey.
Just a quick one.
Is there a bonus to getting an official samsung OTG cable to just one off ebay or something similar? Its just a cable right? Nothing special about the samsung one? I was going to go the Samsung one just to be safe but just wanted some opinions.
Some of you may say it doesn't work with the nexus but I've seen multiple videos on you tube and even an app (gotta be rooted) that enables external storage. I was a little worried about this myself but now I'm hoping it'll work just fine.
Also, what if I just got a female USB to female USB and used my charger cable? Wouldn't that work just the same? Or maybe there's some little thing in these cables that you can't do something like that.
Thanks guys, any responses that people have had or know or are using these would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

[Q] Which AOSP ROM has analog USB-Audio working?

I'm on the AT&T side of things. My friend is upgrading his phone tonight and giving his TMO S2 to his Girlfriend. I flash all their ROM's for them.
On the AT&T Galaxy devices, some AOSP ROM's have analog USB-Audio working. Can anyone tell me which ROM's on TMO side have it working also?
Thanks!
What is usb audio? Are you talking about mhl video output? I know stock t989 does have video and sound output via an mhl video adapter into the micro usb slot
Hercules T989
I think he means the audio through the micro USB port. It works for example on their car docking solution so when you dock your phone the audio is routed through the Micro USB port. I am not sure if its the same solution as the MHL port.

Yep, audio through USB port. It has nothing to do with the MHL port.

maybe you could get an extension for one of these?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-H...g-S2-i9100-S3-i9300-i9220-i9250-/121153413553
^ what he said. One of those, plus a usb cord extension wire and then a usb car charger would be your best solution.
I'm not sure how much power OTG uses, but anything with 2.1A output will charge (very slowly) while using navigation and data. The cable coupled with a 2.1A charger should do the job.
Hope this helps!
