XPERIA S ICS WIFI issue - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hello,
I got myself an Xperia S LT26i running ICS Build number : 6.1.A.2.45 .
It connects to some Wifi networks but not the Wifi network of the Belkin basic n150 router I have at home. :crying:
. My phone displays the network after scanning and asks for the password too. But on entering the password the Wifi network status changes to "Saved, Secured with WPA/WPA2" without actually connecting to it. On tapping the network again, three options pop up : Cancel, Forget and Connect.
Tried resetting, restarting and reconfiguring the router and phone several times but in vain.
I have the latest updated firmware on my router and the latest firmware on my phone too.
My iPAD, Lumia and other devices connect to the network with no problem at all.
Sony Support could not provide me with a solution. Not even my ISP.
Please HELP :crying::crying:
P.S : Excuse me for the bad english.

I have the exact same phone and i had the exact same problem! It turns out, my router did not have enough i.p addresses to allow the phone to connect; so the solution is easy, look in your settings for lan IP, then make the number at the end bigger.
For example mine was starting ip 192.168.0.2 and the end was 192.168.0.4 but i had my playstation & old phone using 2 ip's so my xperia could not be allocated one - all i had to do was change the ending ip address to a larger range like 192.168.0.10 and voila!
hope this solves your problem ..while your at it add your xperia MAC address to your router too

By adding the MAC address do you imply the MAC address filtering list ??

yes i believe that is how it is usually described in most routers' panels, i dont believe its strictly necessary to actually get your xperia to connect, but its a bit of added security for your network and will only take 10 seconds to do so /shrug.
you can find your phones MAC address in 'about phone'

Try changing the channel your WiFi router is broadcasting on.
My Xperia S didn't like Channel 13. Changed it to Channel 1, it worked first time.

I tried changing the channel from "Auto" to "1" but that dint help me in any way. Also, I noticed now that no matter what the password I enter it always says " Secured with WPA?WPA2 " .
This is a thumbnail of an overview of my router.

WiFi help

Hy. I bought my defy one week ago and I have noticed some inconsistencies with the WiFi function. I got it tot work on a public network in a restaurant on the first try. At home however everything seems so random : I got it to connect to WiFi 5-6 times eventhough I don't have a router but most of the times I get the : "connection detected" notification but no internet access ( when i select the network in the wifi settings it says the signal is excellent ).
My modem is a Huawei EchoLife HG520s, I am running windows 7 x32, my phone was not rooted and i didn't make a blur account.. that doesn't work either.
I would really appreciate your help.

You are getting wifi signal at home but do not have a router? You mean a wifi router? If that's the case maybe you are picking up wifi signals from someone else's router and you cannot connect because you need to sign on? If you are having trouble getting on your own router, could you tell us what it is etc.?
You didn't set up a Blur account? Or you did and it doesn't work? Where are you located? If you tried to set it up and couldn't it may be because some markets (I hear) do not support Blur. For instance, there are some models of Defy that do not have Blur and that's probably why.
Sorry i should have made it clearer: i have not bought any kind of router but the modem i use could have a wifi router incorporate(i don't know if it does i lost its documentation).
I live in a house with no nearby sources of wifi and both networks (the one i use to connect to the internet from my pc and the wifi i find if i scan wth my phone have the same name)
I live in Romania and everytime i try to set up a Blur account and click the start button it cancels.

Is there any way you can temporarily disable your modem's wifi security just so you can get on to see if that works? Make sure to turn it back on after, this is just to see if that's the cause of the trouble.
Also about setting up a Blur account - did you try that at home, or at an open Wifi area (eg. the restaurant)? If it doesn't work at home then I guess it's worth trying it at the restaurant or any other place where you can get the connection to work.
Well the network i get here at home is 'open' and i get a connection everytime.. just no internet access on my phone and the computer doesn't seem to recognise the connection (happen exactly he same even on the times i had internet access)

exactly what happened to me. is not a router's problem but a DNSes problem.
you must enter the router and disable the "automatic DHCP". enter in the settings of the phone, wifi, advanced DNS settings automatically if not found. and it work.
P.S. after this if you have problems with your computer, right click the connection, and then do "problem solving". good luck ...

the only problem is that I can't seem to find a router in my devices.. i have a internet modem that might have a wi-fi router incorporated
How does the computer connect to the modem if it uses USB i'm not too sure what you can do but if it uses ethernet what I recommend you do is click on start, and type in "cmd" when this loads type "ipconfig /all" this will then bring up all the details of your connection. What you are looking for is the default gateway, this will be the address of your router. With this add "http" and the default gateway number into a browser, you should then be able to get into the routers config and then you can follows powertony84's guide.
Well i'm pretty sure the network I connect to with my phone is mine because i just changed its security level to WEP using bobdigby advice. But I got lost afterward.
I have attached a prinscr of the DHCP setting i can fiddle with and i really appreciate your help so far
Any idea what channel i should use? i got a tip to chage the channel but i don't know into which one
I don't use any router but I turn my laptop, which supports wifi, into a wifi hotspot so that my defy can use wifi within my apartment. It's wonderful!

[Q] my Arc has wifi problem ?

Hi everyone i just bought my arc yesterday and quite satisfied with the good quality of my phone call but today i experienced a problem is that my Arc can not compatible with the Planet WRT-415 Router .When i connect to this router the wifi icon appeared on my screen but i cannot browse to the webs ,access to the android market or do anything relate to the internet (but others router at coffee shops or public spots are ok) .I also have the iphone 4, the ipod touch and when i connect them to this Planet router everything work just fine. i assume that there is something wrong with my ARC .So could you please help me fix this problem, thank you very much
my ARC info : Model LT15i
Android version :2.3.4
Build number : 4.0.1.A.0.283
I think you need reconfigure your wireless router. you can search this case in Internet.
perhaps you can check the DHCP least time?
the lease that 'never expires' might be the problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17737923&postcount=761
i have done alot of research but still can not figure it out, i also set the DHCP least time to 1 week but it doesnt work,i think it is not the hardware problem but something wrong with the firmware because yesterday i installed FXR WIFI FIX AND RESCUE and some others WIFI FIX APPS ,my device suddenly work about 1-2 hours normally then disconnected until today ,this error really make my upset,
the others device such as ,Hd2 iphone 4 and ipod touch gen1 and my laptop are ok with the wifi from this Planet Router.ony ARC has this problem
i have done : 1)reset wifi router
2) change the channel from 1 to 11
3) install WIFI FIX APPS including FXR WIFI FIX AND RESCUE
4) reset phone settings
but no helps ,
anyone can solved this problem please help me
is your router running in mixed mode? my router was running in bgn mixed mode and none of my android devices connect. when I switched the router to 802.11g only or 802.11n only, all of the android devices connect again.
No my router is only running as g mode because i bought it long time ago about nearly 5-6 years ago so it does not have n mode, my problem is that my arc does not totally incompartible with my router ,sometime it suddently work then i can browse the web and surf the internet with my arc then i try to reconnect it in order to check if it is fixed then it is disconnect again. I feel really upset with my phone ,sorry about my english
Not sure where shall I post my question. Can't find an answer but decided not to create a new post when a wi-fi problem one already exists.
I am trying to connect to WI-Fi in my office but it's WEP encrypted with password.
I got the password to connect to it and everything is working fine apart from internet use. I am connected to wi-fi but with local access only. Can't update email, browse the web or anything like it.
Is it because the Xperia Arc S does not support WEP encryption? Or because I'm doing something wrong?

I do know that Android in general doesn't like WEP.
So in this case the only way to resolve the issue is to ask my company IT guy to change encryption, isnt it?
Are there any applications which could help with the problem or is it some kind of other issue and nothing can be done?

I am using WEP here at home, with no problems at all. I use my Xperia Arc and have an HTC HD Mini running Android from the SD card, both connect via WEP flawlessly.
If you can only view 'local' pages only, it could be that your company use a Proxy Server to filter the webpages you can access while at work. It could also be that the settings for the DNS server are incorrect.
Depending how easily your IT department can be bribed... It may be worth stocking up on beers?
it is not web or wpa the problem is the phone, but sometime i dont know why my phone suddenly work with my PLANET modem, because i used to leave the ARC with wifi on all day at my home sometime it can connect to the internet just like normal.like zombie turn back to life .i found that when i hear the notification ring tone when i receive new gmail at my phone ,so when i hear that tone i know that my phone work with my wifi.when i try to disconnect and reconnect at that time,i cant access to the internet anymore
I have the same issue with my Arc and Neo, and now Tablet S. Seems to be an intrinsic problem of Android. For Arc and Neo, they both worked fine with firmware 2.3.2, and refused to work after upgrade to 2.3.3. Now a further upgrade to 2.3.4 does not help.
Any inspiration? I searched the max possible I could for a solution with the Almighty Google God and tried days after nights to set/reset router/phone/Tablet, and play with settings. No hope. Strange thing to notice:
1/ Can connect for a while, and then drop for no reason. AND, will reconnect after an unknown time ticks;
2/ Cannot have all three SE/S things wifi connecting together to the same router (Mine: Buffalo). Only one at a time. Yet my other NBs/IPad/IPod are still working flawlessly.
3/ All three can connect to certain make of routers: e.g., free wifi in airport/cafe.
So what exactly is happening?
hi guys after 2 weeks finally i found out a solution for my home wifi internet then my android phone now work like champ .so i hope that something im about to write here will help you:
(i have 1 modem adsl named Postef,1 Wifi Access point named Planet WRT415)
here are what i did :
1) change the IP address of Modem to :192.168.1.1
change the IP address of AP to 192.168.1.2
2) change the channel of AP to 9
At the first time my modem and AP have the same IP which is 192.168.1.1 so when i use iphone4 and laptop to browse 192.168.1.1 it logged in to the Modem but my Android phone logged in to the AP so that is the problem ,the android phone can not distinguish if you use the same IP for Modem and AP

802.1x wifi problem | galaxy gio

Hey,
I want to connect to a 802.1x security wifi network on my school, it does connect.
It sais I am connected but I can't browse the web and all my apps dont refresh either.
Is there anyway I can fix this? Maybe with some setting or change in root?
work fine on mine
I'll install cm9 as soon as I can, and see if it fixes my probs. Otherwise it could be a chipset problem, that it just doesnt support. Some other people on my school also cant connect (budget phones).
I think its weird that some devices can connect and others not, on my school, some galaxy s or galaxy ace will connect while others can't. I have cyanogenmod 7.2 with android 2.3.7! I think it should work but someway it keeps connected, so I am connected to the router, but I can't browse the net. Maybe it cant open default gateway in someway?
maybe that router is not compatible .. i have the same problem in some places..
I think it's weird some devices connect and other do not, maybe it has to due with diffrence in android versions? I use cyanogenmod 7.2, android gingerbread 2.3.7
Oi, there is so much that could be going on here...
Its an Atheros AR6003G chip, which as far as i know, supports 802.11 A/B/G/N, and hardware encryption for WEP/WPA...
Odds are, if its an 802.1x type network, the chip will do the encrypting/decrypting after the handshake is completed, provided its set up correctly. WEP and WPA are set up by using a Pre-shared Key that all users need to have... If you study how to recover the key, you'll find that the hash is created by taking the plaintext passkey, running it through the specified algorithm, then salting it with the name of the network. So long as all devices have the correct network name and the correct plaintext password, any device can connect to the network, because they'll all end up with the same hash.
802.1x encryption is different. It uses an authentication server. This makes it similar to any modern computer you log onto. You provide the computer with your credentials, and it checks it against the server. If they match, then you are allowed access. If they don't you get an error message. Which means, that if anything is broken, it won't work. If you don't use the correct authentication protocol, it won't work. If you don't have the right certificates, it won't work.
Best advice I can give is, double check everything. Make sure your Gio has the correct certificates and that its using the correct protocols. Double check your IP/Subnet Mask/Gateway addresses. If you don't have an IP address, you'll have to manually configure it. If the Subnet Mask is incorrect or the Gateway address is incorrect, it won't work either. Also, check your DNS server addresses. If those aren't correct it won't load any webpages using URLs. It will only load them using the IP address of the server. Which means, telling the browser to go to www.google.com won't work, but if you tell it to go to 173.194.67.99:80, it will load the Google homepage.
Hopefully this will give you somewhere to start...
Yes true, only problem is that static IP's dont work, otherwise I could just copy the DNS and gateway numbers from a device it does work on. It uses DHCP and I think that I have the problem you told about.I dont think our school uses certificates cause a friend of my (Galaxy S) can connect without having installed certificates or something.
I think its an hardware isue and it cant decrypt the code well, my WIFI indicator stays white, with internet acces it should turn blue or green.

What if you go to wifi settings- menu button - advanced settings- 'regulier domein' I know you are dutch, dont know how it is called in english, something like regular domain I guess.
Then set it to 11 13 or 14 try them out, fixes my wifi, also at school with 8.11x connection mode

That is very very odd... I use a Linksys WRT54G2 router at home, and its set up for DHCP. Its address is the standard 192.168.1.1, and it can address 50 clients between the addresses of 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.149. However, if i set my computer up to use static settings, it works just fine... Granted the networks are probably set up differently.... but the theory should work just fine...
Code:
IP: 192.168.1.4
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS: 64.59.160.13, 64.59.160.15
Are you positive it doesn't work?
If you can get me the encryption type, IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway address your friends phone uses, I may be able to help more... The more information you can get me, the better.
The only reason I can think of that would cause it to not work is that the IP address is already in use, or the Subnet mask is incorrect... It shouldn't matter what IP address you use, so long as the subnet mask and gateway are correct... In theory anyway...
I'll gather them and put them in a post!
Thanks for your help so far,
Im on the same school as runedegroot but the neteork does work for me, and i dont think a stattic ip will work cause the network is spread over a lot of routers so if any other phone gets that ip via dhcp it wont work anymore

Actually that was for willie1001...
And its possible that changing the reguatory domain could work. If you're running software designed for the states, it would disable any channel above 11... But then again, if you can "see" the wireless network in the settings menu, it would make sense that its programmed to use a channel isn't above channel 11... Which would mean that changing the regulatory domain wouldn't help it at all...
Come to think of it, if your MAC address is blocked, it wouldn't allow you access... But then again, you'd have to do something for the school to block your MAC address. And if the other students can access it, then it would have to be specifically you who did something to piss off a teacher.
Also, any information you can get me about the router would help greatly. By figuring out the manufacturer of the router and the model number of the router, its possible to narrow down the likely IP addresses that the router would use..

Man, thats odd... I assume you aren't on the North American continent... Where did you pick your Gio up from?
You know... Its possible that the issue you have was fixed in a base band (modem) update... You could try flashing the phone to the latest OE firmware (Not necessarily the one that came with your carrier as branded firmware tends to take forever to get updated), and see if that works...

[Q] Wifi - After Router reboot "Network not in range"

Hi,
I swear I did a search but Wifi seems a big issue with the Arc and I couldn't pinpoint my exact problem:
Everytime I reboot my router, the Arc loses its previous working wifi connection. The wifi networklist will state that the "network is not in range" (while I am basically sitting on top of my router), also forgetting the network and setting it up manually does not solve the problem. The only way I have found to address this is to change the Wifi SSID in the router - which is not a long term option.
Unfortunately I cannot give you details on the ROM (its my wife's phone and she is threatening me remotely if I cannot fix this. Like NOW) - but I know that I rooted it and put a UK stock ROM (instead of the Singaporean) about 5 months ago.
Please help, anybody - and again, I apologise if that has been addresse, I could not find the appropriate threads.
cheers
Why do you restart your router?
(i do rarely, only if the dsl/internet is gone)
Try to change ssid and sec.key of your router.
What kind of sec.key type do you use. Fexampe i use WPA-(PSK)

My internet is usually ok but I also use IPTV which sometimes (= every other day) hangs and takes the router (Asus RT-N13U) along.

I changed the SSID several times already because it is the only way to make the Arc find my network again. Security is WPA-PSK, I also tried WPA2-PSK, which made no difference.
I do acknowledge that the problem may be the router BUT every other device in my house (which includes several laptops, a Galaxy S2 and a Asus TF101) connects flawlessly to Wifi even after several router reboots. Just the arc throws the towel every single time.
Thats really wierd. These problems are very hard to help remotely, in my option
Try changing mac adress, and if you can log into you router and check device (arc) permissions
Also look at your routers radio type (-a, -b, -g, -n or something)
At least try a frimware upgrade/reinstall.
Thats what i got for now

First of all thank you for the time and answer.
I think from router side I'm ok, firmware is up to date, band is 20MHz, mode is b/g/n auto and no fancy settings.
The problem seems to be: as long there is a valid DHCP lease for the Sony after the router reboot, it will refuse to connect. Only after I get the lease for teh Sony out of the router (which requires a lot of fiddling) can the phone connect again.
So, to expand the question: Is there an android tool that can do some advanced networking stuff (for example something like the "ipconfig /release" command in Win?
If all else fails, I'll just buy her an iPhone
Tried to set up a static ip on you arc?
Settings > wireless and network > wireless settings > push menu button ang press advanced > check the static ip option and configure it
Try a app to connect like wifi manager and wifi connect etc.
Are the phone using the latest frimware?

[Q] Verizon Lg G3 Won't connect to wifi no matter what.

So basically I can't connect to wifi and I have tried EVERYTHING from static routes to different networks and routers, different roms, complete factory rom/firmware resets. I just can't connect to wifi, nothing else is wrong, and I think it may have to do with the fact that in my "Advanced WiFi" setting its shows my phone Ip address as unavailable.
Any help, please?!
Is there a way to manually assign a phone Ip address, in the terminal or in some coding somewhere? Because I feel like that's the problem... And no I don't just mean using static connections, that doesnt work

Possible solution.
On your pc go to cmd and go to ipconfig /flush dns. I don't remember precise command but something like this. It'll reset all your addresses assigned to your other devices. On your phone do forget network. Then try to reconnect. Your ip will be assigned automatically.
If it doesn't work check in your router what wireless protocol you have. You know b,c,g,ac,n. Try to set to n only.
Another thing there's possibility your router is set to accept connections only from known devices in which case you'll have to add the phone automatically.
No one has ANY ideas. In this whole forum?
I have an idea...There is an update to Lollipop just released that fixes the wifi problem. At least for Verizon...release last few days.

hmmm, if it's the update that comes from the vzw installer when you plug in the phone, then i already tried and no such luck :/
My phone just needs a damn ip adress!
Could it have to do with certificates?

Did you find the solution? I have the same issue, although sometimes I can connect to the wifi network but it only works for a while
