removing the stock lock with root access - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

I'm looking for the apk in system/app that is the lock screen for kindle fire 2. I followed the tek that installed unlocker then locker of choice, but on start up it goes to stock lock first and then to lock of choice after locked again. I want my kindle to go straight to android lock on start up incase It's ever stolen. Does anyone know how to do this?

I seem to recall there being an option in the replacement lock screen app that disabled the built in lock when it was enabled. I might be wrong. I think kindlefree had an option to remove the built in lock.
EDIT: Kindlefree is handy, but doesn't disable the lock screen, just the ads.

Appreciate it. That's precisely the tek I followed. It pretty much works except on start up. On start up it goes to the stock lock first then one you open it and lock it again it goes to the lock you installed. I just feel it leaves you vulnerable on startup should your device get stolen.
Also I followed a guide to remove ads on the kindle lock by changing a certain apk in system/app to a bat . I was hoping to find the apk that is the stock lock and too change it to a bat. But that apk May control more than the lock

I ended up bricking my device by making what I thought were simple changes so make sure you have backed up your partitions.

I'd say create an unlock password on the kindle (system lockscreen) itself, to protect you on first boot.
Also, it's probably systemui.apk that controls it.

[Q] how to disable htc sense lock screen and get back the standard android lock scree

I like the htc sense lock screen but want to know if there is any method to revert back to the stock android lock screen. And then back also if possible. Because many of us like the origional feel and its also a bit light on the resources (in which wildfire lags behind a lil as compared to most android phones).
Also any other methods to use the limited potential of the wildfire more productively are welcome.
I am not sure how the stock lock screen looks like. What I did was, I designed my own lock screen wallpaper (with my name on it) and applied it using Menu - Wallpaper - Lockscreen - Gallery (folder where I put my own design). But of course the slide down (without button pattern) to unlock is the same.
I understand there are many lock screen apps posted around in xda.
disable is easy;
http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.jraf.android.nolock
goto the site and download app. But dont know how to get back the standart andorid lock screen.
BUMP.
I find the HTC Lock Screen annoying. Always answering calls when I pull my phone out of my pocket.
Any way to get back to the Vanilla Lockscreen? (besides flashing a AOSP ROM?)

Download wildpuzzle rom and flash 0201 to remove htc lockscreen and other htc stuff
Temporary fix: Installed Screen Suite, bypasses the HTC Lockscreen. SLide to unlock and then you get the Answer/decline buttons.
Kinda busy now, I don`t have the time to flash custom ROMS and mess around with settings.
I tried this by pulling everything and cooking a rom from that, leaving out htclockscreen.apk.
The result was a stretched, ugly looking landscape-like vanilla lockscreen. Still looking further into this, if I succeed, ill post here.
OK, I found this:
http://geekfor.me/hero/fixes/vanilla-lockscreen/
But it`s for HTC Hero. At a first glance I think that it won`t work on the Wildfire because of the resolution, but maybe someone with knowledge of extracting apk`s and making update.zip files
(maybe applying the hero update.zip works directly woks, I don`t know, but the difference in resolution makes me think that there are different coordinates for display elements)
The general ideea is this,:
Extract the clock.apk from a Wildfire AOSP source
See if the modifications in the Hero files can be applied to the Wildfire
If not, maybe remake, or duplicate
create a .zip file that can be applied from a recovery mode.
I know it sounds like a lot, and I would do it myself, but due to problems and college, I don`t really have the time to start learning all this now. Maybe in the Christmas holiday.
Any devs interested in this?
Yes you can remove HTC Sense lock screen and revert to Vanilla lock screen. Procedure is simple but root and S-OFF is a must. Just install a root explorer like ES File Explorer. Navigate to Phone memory /system/app. Find and delete (make backup if you want it back later) HtcLockScreen.apk. Reboot your phone and you are done!

I've managed to do this without S-OFF. I just used titanium back up to uninstall the HTC Lock screen. back to stock. the problem is, the stock lock screen has the horrible weather widget instead of the clock, and I can't find a way to edit it. Did you have the same issue?

HTCScreenlock and Alarm issue

I am on the stock rom, rooted recently. I am using the stock alarm and when the alarm goes off, I see the default android unlock screen and once I unlock, there is no way to dismiss or snooze the alarm. I could do anything on the phone (e.g. turn it silent) but nothing short of a reboot would make the sound go. I have removed the HTC lock screen, could that be the cause of this or was it because of removing something else. I think I went according to one of the threads where while removing stuff, but I have certainly messed up somehow.

Yeah, that is your problem. Removing the lockscreen and still using HTC's clock app causes this issue. I'm not sure where it is, but there is a thread that has these mods in them that would remove the HTC Lock Screen and replace the clock to the AOSP clock. If you don't feel like doing that, just get a different alarm app from the Market. If you want something different, Gentle Alarm is pretty cool
I found the mod, but since I have already removed the Lockscreen (and now the HTC Clock as well), if someone can point me to the apk for the stock ASOP clock that works with EVO, that would be great. I've been trying to search it but haven't been able to find an apk that works with EVO. (I extracted the apk in that mod, but it did not install).

Moved it to the /system/apps folder, changed the file permission to 777 and restarted the phone. No luck.
Ignore that, another restart and it works. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough or maybe it needed a reboot. Thanks guys.

[Q] Kindle Fire unrooted after auto update. Is it okay? How to re-root?..

Hello all. I have been searching the forums and could not find anything to help with my specific problem. I got my KF this past Thursday and rooted it with Breakdroid. The Fire was on 6.2.
Well, today when I tried to change my wallpaper again by doing the whole changing permissions thing with Root explorer, i got a message that my "phone" didn't appear to be rooted so I couldn't access the file. So after searching the internet I learned that an auto update likely unrooted the device. Checked my settings and sure enough, it updated to 6.3.
I still have the Android Market, Root Explorer, Es File explorer and all other apps I downloaded which are working and I would like to keep. But my issue is I can't change the wallpaper to anything, not even to the stock Kindle Fire wallpaper, which I thought would change since it unrooted it. I'm scared to reset it or turn it off for fear it may brick. Is there a way I can re-root it, or is it fine like it is? I'm scared really to do anything with it. Thanks. I am using a MAc, btw and all the re rooting tools seem to only be for Windows.
pretty sure youll be fine to use breakdroid and kindlewater again Im not on mac but It seems to be whats available http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1511757

So I just re-root again as if I've never done it before? Even though I still have Superuser on the device. Or can I just factory reset it?
You need to re-root the device, factory will just erase all your apps and it still won't be rooted.
You are going to have to reroot the kindle if you want to do anything that requires root access. Super user does nothing without root. However if you factory reset you will lose everything and your ability to download Android apps via Google play I recommend rooting and flashing the modaco rom if you want a better stock experience that does not automatically update. Hope it goes well

Okay. I know I need to re-root but do I just re-root over what I currently have? I already have the superuser app, ES file explorer and Root explorer. If I just go ahead now and re-root it as it is, do I have to install these apps again or will I just be able to resume my device as it was before the update broke the root? I just don't want to mess it up.
Really if I can just get it back to where the wallpapers change (default Amazon), I'll be content with the way it is. What happened was I changed the wallpaper and set permissions for it not to change as it normally would. Of course, the update came afterwards, and now I can't change the wallpaper at all. I was a little worried something may be wrong with it since I expected the wallpaper to be reset back to the stock Amazon ones that change all the time.
I am not running stock right now though if I remember correctly the kindle fire stock interface does not have a "background" it is just the carousal and the favorites thing. So are you running a launcher that you changed the background of or did you change the screen saver? If it is really bad you should just backup your data if you are worried and reroot it is almost impossible to fully brick I think I have done it like 17 times messing with it though works fine. If you need a windows computer you could probably go to a public library or university library and use their computers.

Yes. I am running a launcher (Go Launcher) and changed the wallpaper using that before the OTA update. You know using the launcher to change the wallpaper gives you the options to leave your wallpaper in place by changing permissions in root explorer because when you wake your Fire the wallpaper becomes one of Amazons. The launcher, Market, and all my apps still work from when I rooted it. I just thought that once the root was broken by the update, that my wallpaper would disappear and the stock Amazon wallpapers would return, but they didn't. I'm still on the same wallpaper and cannot change it at all. That's what was worrying me.
If you don't want to root over what you have then try uninstalling the launcher and reinstalling it or an other launcher. See if it works.

Amazon Fire HD 8" & 10" - remove firelauncher (no root)

I am ecstatic to announce that I have found a solution as of 2016! Please visit my thread describing the tutorial on how to remove firelauncher and use any launcher you choose without rooting your Fire HD device!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/tut-remove-default-launcher-amazon-fire-t3288192
I have been reading a lot of forum posts and decided to make an account here in order to communicate with you guys. I see you are all interested in possible modifications to the Kindle Fire, and as you must know the HD 8 & 10 models do not have a root currently.
I am relatively new to Android but I am really enjoying working with it. The only thing I do not like about the FireOS is the firelauncher (com.amazon.firelauncher), and I have been looking for a working way to remove, replace, or modify it without rooting (unless there is a way).
I found two methods to accomplish this, however it needs some tweaking. I think someone as experienced as you might be able to perfect it.
Method 1:
I noticed that the stock APK file, ("/system/priv-app/com.amazon.firelauncher/com.amazon.firelauncher.apk") cannot be touched as it is a read-only filesystem, but I can reinstall it. (I was able to reinstall a slightly older version of firelauncher successfully using "adb install -r -d firelauncher.apk" successfully by the way). During the installation there is a brief moment where it is deleted, and the prompt to select a different default launcher is presented, and works. Sadly I have no clue on how to prevent firelauncher from finishing its installation. I tried "reboot -p" to kill the device in the middle of an installation and various other things but nothing worked.
Method 2:
Like I mentioned previously, I was able to reinstall any version or a modified version of the APK. This allowed me to edit the contents of the APK and delete some important resources, causing the launcher to crash and switch over to the last opened window, I think there is potential in here if classes.dex could be modified somehow.
Method 3:
I was able to take a different launcher and decompile it, edit the package name from net.example.testlauncher to com.amazon.firelauncher, however I don't know how to sign it properly and the mismatch caused the tablet to reject the apk. This has REAL potential as a method, but it may be impossible to forge a certificate signature.
Edit: It may be possible to disable the certificate checking,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698352
If anyone is able to collaborate with me on this, we may be able to finally get rid of the horrendous firelauncher. Additionally, anyone who would like to remotely test things on my Fire HD 8 let me know and I'll setup a console or something for you.
I am attatching a previous version of firelauncher.apk, to install it (which there is no real reason to do so) type adb install -r -d firelauncher.apk
I have been experimenting with modified backup and restore files, no luck there. I have also worked with sideloading certain files, and of course no luck there either. There might be some potential in the fastboot screen, but I am not sure which command to use to unlock the kernal. I will post a list of all the getvars if anyone will find them useful. I remember unlock_status: false but that is about it. fastboot oem unlock does nothing as it is an invalid command.
I am ecstatic to announce that a temporary fix for this has been found! Please visit my thread describing the tutorial on how to remove firelauncher and use any launcher you choose without rooting your Fire HD device!

Either deal with the quick delay of the fire launcher, or just don't use a different launcher.
Launcher Hijack works flawlessly if you delete the firelauncher. The home button will still work, but there are other side affects.
If you don't delete firelauncher, and I sincerely hope you haven't, then you still get the occasional delay like normal.

After my latest failures, I got the bright idea to try something that has never worked for me before: LauncherHijack
I downloaded LauncherHijackV3 from GitHub(mod please help with the link ) and sideloaded it onto my kindle and installed.
I opened it and selected ADW Launcher (the only one on the list), and now the home button works beautifully, with no lag at all.
I'm so happy im gonna make a new thread!  :victory: :good: :victory:

Well... but there is the problem that whenever you go home, sometimes, you see for a brief period the amazon launcher, making it confusing and weird. That thing made me return to the amazon launcher due to the trouble it gave me.
So.. lag or no lag? Do you still see the fire launcher when using adw?

Yes I am aware of that now. At first I had deleted firelauncher and then installed LauncherHijack. This completely erased any lag or glitches with the main fire launcher, but had some other side effects not related to the launcher or the home button.
So my statement is now outdated and i will be editing it now.

Yes. I believe there is no way around this as of now without root.

{APP}[Root] Amazon Launcher mod FireOS 5.0.5

Hello xda member's,
Like most of you I've been running firestarter as a home launcher replacement, but lately been frustrated by the Constance reloading of the stock launcher provider by amazon.
I've edited the stock launcher that still lets setting work ( without it I had trouble with settings not working correctly), by using this launcher it allows you to full get the use out of your firestarter launcher without the need for adb settings being turned on.
simply hitting the home button will take you to firestarter and you can still open firetv launcher if needed by showing system apps.
#My system setup
I have firestarter.apk in /system/priv-app
replaced the stock launcher with the provided one attached ( remember to repair permissions)
Root is required as well.
If anyone is willing to try, I could see if I can make it update without root to gain the same effect, so if your interested without root please let me know if you want to test it.
This is not a flashable zip.... this is done via adb shell with root access, and as I said before if your willing to test for none root please let me know.
resevered
seems sideloading fails trying to update, but worth a shot.
strictly root app.
I'm rooted with 5.0.5
Do i install firestarter v3.2.2.apk then move it to /system/priv-app or just move the apk itself?
Edit: I installed then moved to priv-app. However when in firestarter and i click on AFTV settings nothing happens. It won't open the amazon settings. I had to revert back to the stock launcher.
