nice job!

Details would be nice......
Did you buy a kit? If so from where?
Did you just have a large piece of vinyl that you stretched and put the back and then trimmed?

late Reply
I didn't even consider that people were still reading this. This is actually a piece of automotive vinyl from 3M. It's their carbon effect selection. From here, I simply cut a section that was the right size for my phone back and then trimmed it down with a razor blade. From here, I used a heat gun to gently pass over it until I was able to shape the corners and retrim.

Awesome. ..
Well done ...
This looks excellent. ..g

Do want. You should buy some backs off ebay, wrap them, and resell them. I know I'd buy one!

Ridiculous. Kevlar is a material. It can be woven, colored & designed just like any other material. They make suits woven with Kevlar, high end suits, for high risk CEO's, etc. They also make Kevlar coated vehicles. Starwood Motor in Texas makes a Kevlar coated Jeep Wrangler that is pretty badass. http://www.starwoodmotors.com/web/used/Jeep-Wrangler-2013-Dallas-Texas/7060412/

Idk about all that, but I went out and bought some carbon fiver vinyl wrap from Autozone for my note and it came out great! No heat gun required, just clean, apply, cut the edges, don't even need to wrap around the shell because part of the shell goes into the casing of the phone and protects the edges. Looks great, feels great, I absolutely love it Thanks for the great idea!

i got mine from dx.com, its free shipping and very cheap (even in canada)
shipping is a bit long but hey it's free

captivate case like griffin reveal

is there a case similar to iphone 4 griffin reveal? http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/reveal-iphone4
I'm looking for a polycarbonate back with slim rubber sides for the samsung captivate.
thats only the sides though like a iphone 4 bumper not sure if the captivate would get one but it would be cool
no there is a one-piece polycarbonate back with rubber sides. my friend has one

I have that one (returned my iPhone4 since) and it sucks. A week of use and the back is super scratched up and actually looks smoked now, and the rubber is super flimsy. Id suggest something else.
i see. thanks for your input. what makes a good case? rubber? silicone? leather? hard plastic? polycarbonate? sigh..too many choices
gel silicone and hard plastic mix.
make sure it has some bend so that its not rigid but it is sturdy enough that it is hard to get over the device.
the body glove is seriously the most perfect case ever and the pattern is nice too

I'm sorry, that was just my opinion. I'm currently using the body glove gel case available at AT&T stores. Its not as snug as i would have liked it, but its much better than that reveal was.

my brother uses that. it feels snug, but i wanted a clear back to show the nice detailing of the captivate.
I just picked up that Body Glove case AT&T has and boy is it nice. I thought it was going to be pretty cheap but once I saw it in person I was sold. I recommend it if you are looking for some protection since the phone is still pretty new and does not have a lot of options.
here one that samsung makes. i really thrilled with the design in the back. its not available yet. but fyi.

It's always a pain putting those on though. You can never quite get it to look as perfect as the pictures show, unless you get one of those Indian guys from the mall to put it on.
putting a $20 skin on plastic back that will be a $10 item seems silly. I bet we see $10 back covers all over the place soon.

I haven't received my phone yet, but I am thinking about putting a BestSkinsEver skin on the back. I realize the back will probably be sold on eBay for $10 at some point, but I hear the phone can get a little slippery and the skins add just the right amount of rubbery tackiness to keep the phone from slipping out of my hand.
Having a lot of experience in this subject (see link in signature), I can go ahead and tell you that if you don't have a lot of experience, you won't get that skin to wrap around the corners and edges properly and make it look the way you want it to. Good luck, but it seems like throwing away money because you sure won't be satisfied with the results!
Its easy to get on. Cut the backing down the middle, then tape the other end to the phone. Then remove the half of the skin backing, then the other. And any wrinkles just heat with a blowdryer and its perfect.

I eagerly wait for your review! I have been looking at cases for my SG2, and this one may be the perfect one. This case would make it much easier for designing a tripod adapter.
It looks as though the buttons holes are too deep to use them, maybe it is just how it looks to me. I hope so. I want to get one of these as soon as I know about the button holes.

Those look awesome. However I wonder if they have a liner or something on the inside to prevent damaging the phone itself.
According to the website OP linked they do.

Raises up the camera and screen so as to have less chance of scratches on either, less chance of scratching the sides, which seem to me the most tender in terms of scratches, and offers an easier item to hold. I only want to know if the holes are too deep to use the volume and power button. If that is the case, than I wont buy one. But they do look really :awsm.
One of these in black + a Zagg Invisible shield should be the way to go Pitty BestSkinsEver don't have quicker shipping options to AUS
Really looking forward to hearing your thoughts.please keep us updated.

Airbrushing isn't that hard, just sand the thing down, prime it, sand it, paint it, then clear coat. Take you about a days wait, with about 2hours work.
if you're lucky, the letters will be in plastic, this way you can use a sugar cube to scratch it off. the reason for the sugar cube is because its not hard enough to scratch the paint/metal off yet strong enough to remove plastic lettering

(yet another)Carbon Fiber Battery Cover

Seeing there are several threads about people laying down black carbon fiber look vinyl on their phones, here's one done in silver. I got ripped off on eBay when I thought the listing was for genuine 3M Di-Noc, but the results turned out decent enough to share. Major problem with the cheap vinyl is that it stretches out way too easily and it melts at a lower temperature than the quality film.

Looks pretty sweet! Is that stuff adhesive, or do you have to use some sort of glue?
Yes, it is adhesive backed. Like I said I got the off brand stuff, the 3M branded Di-Noc works much better. There are numerous clips on youtube about the stuff and how to use it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL0nOpvkTb4 <=== link to video showing install on a BMW steering wheel.

I've got black 3M textured Carbon, but I think the stuff would be way too thick to work on the backing. I'll try it though, have a ton left from my computer.
The 3M branded film works great on the back. You just have to trim it right at the edges of the cover instead of folding over the underside a bit. That pic turned out looking white? It is silver. They have 500! other colors. I dont know about the other 500 varieties but the carbon fiber look films are actually textured and have a good grip to them.
I went ahead and put the fiber on my backplate.... It looks awesome, but the lip is killing me....
Edit: The fiber was pretty thick, so an idea struck me. I stuck it on the back directly, instead of on the cover. Fits great, feels great. Might add another layer to get rid of some of the 'give' between components.
Ridges are a whole heck of a lot more visible in photos, but aren't they always?
Phone is an extra mm thinner, and a bit lighter too. In addition, the battery no longer falls out in those big drops

no nothing goes on the actual screen, except the frame you see on side (which does not affect your viewing of movies or games).
how hard was it to actually get everything lined up correctly? was the process a pain in the ass?
thanks
You're welcome.
the process is very simple. It took me about 5-10 mins.
This looks nice, I was always thinking about getting one of these skins but I don't know... $20 seems kind of hefty to me.
Hows it holding up to daily use? I would love not to have a case but I miss the unique looks, and this seems like the perfect alternative.

It's not an alternative to a case. Why you think a skin would be is beyond me. It may protect against light scratches or scuffs, but won't protect the tab from damage if it's dropped or banged. You need a case or cover.

I said that "I would love not to have a case" which means I dont like them. But I buy them for everything, because I dont like my items looking the exact same as they came, or what everyone elses looks like. So a skin suits me. I dont throw my valuables, it seems dumb to me why'd you throw a piece of technology our society revolves around. And I dont see how you know what I need.
