[Q] RAM Question - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I just received my Tmo S3. I'm running CM10.1 (latest nightly) and I noticed that it is showing me that I only have 1.5GB (1591MB to be exact) of RAM. Why is it not showing up with all 2GB? Thanks!

Because that's not how computers work.

I know how computers work, it should be telling me somewhere in the neighborhood of ~1900 mb.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

What he saying is you never get the full 2gb you ask why? The OS has to run somewhere, can't put it on your sd card. That's how computer works less of a issue there because you have such more space but same thing with hard drives. Just like your phone doesn't come with full the 16 or 32gb as prescribed for system apps. Basic knowledge.

Not the same hardware??

I keep seeing everyone claim that the hardware is the same between the att and rogers version, yet my att glide only has 724mb ram... am I the only one that noticed we have less ram, or did I get screwed???

Oh, interesting... on my AT&T Glide MemTotal in meminfo is only 739988KB. What's going on here...
Let's get a survey on this. Everyone, tell me what ROM you're using and which model you have (AT&T or Rogers), what ROM you're running, and what /proc/meminfo reports your MemTotal to be.
Omg! Mine says 723 mb! At&t ripped me off, I'm supposed to get 724 mb according to darkendvoid88. /sarcasm.
The phones are mass produced and they have the same hardware. If you don't believe this, get a tmobile sim card and put it in your phone. It's the same one, regardless of carrier

Came here to say this
Well I mean when I check the system stats on other hardware in our store I see the actual advertised ram, so either AT&T is lying or the SIII on sprint comes with extra ram to accommodate the system. When run the LMK through the task manager on stock rom it still averages 2-300 use so I assumed that was the system reserved. Absolute stock rom 2.3.6.
I believe some is VRAM and some for ROM.
I have a rodgers and it also says 724mb ram

Ext sdcard corruption

So I don't know what's happening but I have a 32gb class 10 micro sd card. And once a week it just goes corrupt and my files are all corrupt. It's seriously getting on my nerves and I don't know what to do. I I've formatted it in the phone and in a pc and it doesn't matter it still happens.

Nope I just bought it and returned one because of this.

Any ideas? It will just abruptly stop saving pictures to my ext sdcard and when I use root explorer to see why it has changed from read/write to read/only.

Sounds like the card may just be faulty?
I have had one incident with my current SD card recently where it wiped itself but fortunately it hasn't happened again. I have a 32 GB Class 10 also. I have read of other experiences with QC issues with lesser known brands like "Patriot" (my current) or "PNY". I think for my next one I'll spend the extra dough and go Samsung. I hear those are built like tanks

It could be the card itself. Why not try another card and see if it happens on other cards.

Flashed ROM, SD card stopped working.

Im new to this and i dont know if i put this in the right place, but please dont get mad at me if it is.
But.... I flashed one of the cyanogenmod nightly builds on my 32gb galaxy nexus, and now it only shows that I have 16gb of storage. I have been looking everywhere for a solution to this. I even tried flashing the stock ROM and it didn't fix a thing. Does anyone have a clue how to fix it? Or is this irreversible?

Well i have the internal 32gb sd card. And after I flashed it and plugged it into the computer It said only 16gb total space and it said the same thing on the phone when I looked at the storage under settings. But it's not saying that the other 16gb are being used, just that there's only 16 period.

The storage analyzer shows the same thing is there any files that if they aren't there your phone won't recognize the extra storage space or anything?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
""Here is how it works. When the phone is turned on, the processor attempts to load SBOOT. This provides all the details like the partitions so the device can boot properly. In the event that the SBOOT is damaged, it’s designed to default to the SD card—therein lies the exploit. When you’ve hard bricked your device, you can use a SD card to bring it back to life.""
so i found this, could the problem be that since i have an integrated sd card, could my internal storage be bricked or missing my sboot files and be automatically switching over to my sd card? because i did have my phone bricked but i managed to unbrick it using odin. so i guess im asking if this idea will work on mine.

Extreme data usage

Hello, so I've been I've been searching around and haven't come up with a definitive answer. I've had the s4 for a couple months now and have been using an excessive amount of data, when I haven't been doing anything out of the norm. With my s2 I had a5 gb plan and only got throttled once in awhile, but with the s4 my data has jumped tremendously. I've used almost 16 gb this month and 21 gb last month.
Android os is to blame for 6gb this month and 12 gb last month, all clocked in as back ground usage. Why? Wth is this phone doing to use so much data. . I have unlimited no throttling plan, but if I was still on 5 gb I'd be screwed. I just would like to know how I can stop this.
Thanks

Dude, nothing on your phone, other than maybe a torrent client, can use 21 gigs of data without your consent. And since its saying "Android system" is responsible for the data usage, its you tethering. Period. You asked, so i answered.
What part of saying I don't tether other than hotspot which I'm limited to 500mb from Tmobile do you not understand? Also said I haven't increased use from my what ive done on the gs2 and actually there are several posts online of others experiencing this as well but no solution. I did ask but you surely haven't answered.

LTE could be the answer it uses much more data to get data back to you faster.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Your attitude isn't going to get anybody to help you. People are offering you advice, no need to be rude.
As far as your data, it can be many things. I would start by keeping track of each app's data usage over a few day span.
What towle is saying is right. We do this to try to help people. We don't get paid for this. We do this voluntarily, and if you have a bad attitude nobody will want to help you.

Well try calling T-Mobile. They can tell you exactly the reason why your phone is using so much data.

Do you happen to have/use Google Music/All access? Its been known to eat thru data and hit your cap in the matter of just a few days.
edit- BTW if you got to settings/data usage it'll tell you what apps are using the most data;

Like I saidI'm not here to argue, but don't tell me how im using my phone. If you can't handle being told your suggestion isn't the cause than you need not reply.

yes, this is Def a real issue, tethering is Def not the cause for one thing it shows as it's own data consumption for hot spot Tmobile Gave me the same and kept telling me you must be doing this and that. Would say nope sure haven't. There final conclusion was well we don't know. But on the gs2 I never exceeded 6gb, if I still had the same plan id been throttled the second week

Yeah it looks like a software bug that shows Android system using alot of data so that could be play music all Access, tethering, or a bug.

However, until you try it (or someone else) it's just an assumption (both ways - yes or not).

I actually think there is a way to partition it using a tool in windows or Linux that splits it into two 64gb "sd" cards. So it's one card but in the phone it comes up as two. I think.. I'm not sure if this still works.. I remember seeing this "trick" in the s2 forums years ago when I had that.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
This works on the note2, I don't see why a similar setup wouldn't work for the s4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239413
It will work but after partitioning it. Get the card and post back if you need help on how to proceed.

NO T-Mobile said themselves 64 GB is max, however if you partition into 2x 64 might work... Have not tried tho
