People/Contacts App

I'm loving ICS on my SII. This is the only android phone that I haven't rooted and don't plan to unless absolutely necessary.
However, I would like to have the stock ICS people app and (dialer if possible). I've already stopped using the TWlauncher and have been using the android launcher...love it.
Is it possible to load either of these without rooting?
And yes I've searched the board but could not find a concrete answer. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
you have to be more specific are you on the ota ics or gb
Dude man if your not using the tw launcher ROOT dude! Aosp is so much better.

It does say hes 'Loving ICS on his S2'. That aside i think he wants the AOSP dialer and contacts apps. I dont believe you can do that without rooting as they are in /system i believe and you cant touch that without permission. If anyone knows better please correct me.
Been using exDialer with the ICS theme. Freakin' awesome!

Yes. I have OTA ICS. I know I should just root and load a custom ROM. I did that a lot with my original Epic but I don't want to root just for those 2 features. Thanks for all the replies. Looks like I'll have to settle for Samsung Dialers and contacts. No biggie.
I would also like to mention exDialer. Load up the ICS theme and you're good. Contacts isn't the same as ICS stock is, but it's good.
There is also an ICS Phone app in Play Store.

Installing Stock Applications from a Custom ROM

Hey all,
I'm pretty new around here, but I really need help!
I just installed Slimbean based on CM10, but unfortunately it doesn't come with SPlanner and the Accuweather Clock.
I really enjoyed these stock apps on the telus ROM. Is there anyway I could get these back and installed on my custom ROM?
Thanks a lot! Any help would be helpful!
Nope.
Samsung apps tend to rely on the touchwiz framework.

the only app i was thinking to install, was the rogers visual voicemail app??..... also wondering too.
hoping this is not considered hi-jacking.

[Q] Differences between Touchwiz, CM10, and stock Jelly Bean

I am a bit new to Android and the GS3. But honestly I am already sick and tired of waiting for Jelly Bean as well as some of the problems of Touchwiz. So I think CM10 is the next thing for me. But I am unsure of the differencr between Touchwiz and CM10. For example I love the quick settings panel, the brilliang camera app and settings, Wi-Fi direct sharing (sbeam) , as well as the smart dialer and decent task manager. I just want to make sure everything will be better.
it's your call. i'd say you should try it out, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to stock touchwiz. just remember to read the op and the last few pages of the thread to make sure there aren't any unwanted problems to deal with. and of course, backup your current rom.

Stock Jelly Bean has been leaked. This will give you all the Jelly Bean goodness without resorting to a custom ROM.
You could also install the touchwiz launcher on CM10 if you like the TouchWiz UI. (I don't)
You can always flash back to stock ICS if you don't like where you end up. Just read the original post and make sure you understand what you're doing so you don't end up with a brick.

So if I tried it and didn't like it, I could just go back to normal and get updates OTA and everything.
Not all S3 are identical. The radio interface are slightly different, region wise. So yes , you can download a Samsung stock ROM off the Internet, it will not be exactly the same. Call and battery performance will be affected slightly.
You can use a backup to restore, it is the closest you can get to original, but rooted.
That it's the complete picture.

Things I like about touchwiz.
Movable home screens.
Little red flags on home screen icon showing unread status.
Social hub for Twitter and Facebook.
A working music player
Swipe right to call, left to SMS
Task manager, less of an issue in ICS and later.
Good alarm app
Best battery performance without tweaking.

yes, but not without some work. you'd need to either restore your backup and unroot, and remove the custom recovery or odin back to stock.

Anything comparing features or anything?
I've been trying to stay on TW as long as I could because of the camera.

Yeah, the camera is brilliant.
Then I recommend Drew Garen Serenity rom! Its Touchwiz JB, its a GNote2 port, works great if you want the same TW features and more! (Gnote stuff), just use a launcher. I'm using tasks AOKP rom myself and its awesome

I've been stuck with AOSP. I love the TW/Samsung features, just not the interface. Coming from a Nexus, I just got comfortable with minimal. Slimbean, Aokp and liquid smooth are great base ROMs that are light.

The whole thing with that is I don't particularly care for Touchwiz. It kinda ugly and heavy with useless stuff. I just don't want to lose useful features.

yea im in the same position you are, i still change back and fourth because of features on TW that i miss and need often.
I am considering just flashing and trying it out and flashing back if I don't like it. I honestly don't mind Touchwiz, but I feel like if I give in and and wait, then I will just keep falling further behind. Perhaps Touchwiz is better now, but it certainly won't be in January
Touch wiz has too much overlay IMO. Liquid smooth is one of the best AOKP ROMs I've tried. But you will be missing out on Sbeam and everything Samsung related of course. But the sheer speed of aokp is a good enough trade off for me to lose just the neat camera and svoice.
I am using AOKP from Task and ktoonez, I love it but really miss smart stay and allshare cast to the point where I'll probably go back to TW JB once ATT actually releases it. Is there a JB ROM that includes those?
Hey guys,
Is there anyway to get the TouchWiz S3 camera features with one of the custom roms or just stick to a stock?
My brother loves the AOKP but he is insistent on having those default camera features/effects that came with the phone.

[Q] AOSP Battery life terrible while Touchwiz is EXCELLENT

Hey guys,
I have a problem with all AOSP ROMs. I simply install the ROM and with no internet/no apps/no nothing and I lose like 30% overnight :/ On the otherhand, any TW based ROM and I lose like ~11% IF THAT...
I was running CM10 on my S3 and I didn't see any problems but all 10.1 based roms are killing me. I despise TW lol and I much rather stay on AOSP
I mean, I didn't post BBS since I don't even have anything installed or nothing
Any solutions? I was fine on CM10 based roms but ...

[APP][REQUEST] Camera App to AOSP ROM

Hi! I want to know,if somebody can port/learn me how to port the stock Samsung Camera App(doesn't matter if ICS or JB) to JellyBam ROM.I really liked the stock camera app.I would want to use stock and new camera at the same time.Has anybody any ideas how to do this?I know sammy Sources are closed, but can't you do it from, for ex. XWLSS firmware or XWLP7 ? Any (helpful) response will be appreciated and thanked.
I dont think thats possible. its been a lot people ask for that. stock camera need touchwiz framework and there are no aosp rom with touchwiz framework. but you may try chameleon if you want aosp feel with stock camera features

developer of jellybam rom is banned on xda...so links to his rom and its further discussions are removed
