CyanogenMod 7 Project - Samsung Captivate Glide

Hi guys,
So for the past week I think I have at least wiped/flashed/Odin'd different ROMs for my new Captivate Glide at least a hundred times. I've finally settled on thegreatergood's LiteROM 0.9.0 and it's working great for me. Not only the one ROM though as I've had to find many workarounds for different things. Flashables/kernels/apks you name it. Although I have no regrets and I'm really proud of how It's like a beast in my pocket, I am quite bothered by one thing which is that the whole thing feels like a big piece of patchwork..
Coming from a HTC Desire Z running CM7 serving me loyally for many years, I miss that officiality (<-- oops, red snakes.. not sure that's a word. Whatever. Shakespeare made his own words too right? ) and the stability that CM7 offered.
I'm a humble man, and possibly carry the apologetic traits of a typical Canadian. Instead of whining and/or nagging some senior developer to hurry up on their ICS or JB development I've decided to build my own CM instead.
However some thought, I think the reason why the JB based experimental CM 10.1s for the Captivate Glide have been a difficult task is because it's probably quite a challenge to build something from something that's not currently very well understood, namely the JB. So I thought, why not just build I nice and stable ROM based off of GB and if it does well it could probably officiated as a CM7 port for the Captivate Glide.
I have a feeling that this is a very plausible task. But I have no way to do it alone.. I have zilch experience in development in anything, had to drop out of my C++ course and have been doing nothing but lurking and leeching since I started modding when I was eleven. All I have is a vision. If someone could point me in the right direction or even form a development team with me, I would be very grateful.
And if this goes well, I will have gained some long overdue experience
So.. Anyone?
P.S. I guess this goes in this forum too. But my phone gets real angry when I flash certain things onto it. The biggest issue currently is that it will freeze and crash (more specifically the screen will freeze and fade into white lines..) whenever I try to use ClockWorkMod Recovery.. I dunno if the crappy 1500 mAh China battery I got ripped off with is an issue but I'm waiting on an OEM one in the mail..

Post in general not development bub...
And were on cm 10. Why fall back?

I intend to turn it into development thread. But will have a better audience over General?
And maybe see it more like an educational project with a usuable product?

hey bud im with you ... though I think CM9 would be better as ICS has been released, stable, and has a few more tweaks and features that CM7 didn't ... things like in JB where we have a transparent notification pull down, control over the dpi of certain apps etc.
First thing you should do is readup on the compile cm10 from source thread, get your feet wet there it'll get you all setup with a development system .. Linux is a must so I hope that you're savvy in the *nix shell or things will be antagonistic right off the start ...
I installed the CM9 recently and radio etc didn't work .. Guaranteed there is tonnes of information across all devices on xda-developers and even in general development threads.
Scroll through these forums, find the github links and learn how to setup your own, download the sources for the kernels from the other devs (theres a couple CM10.1s out there).
CM7 .. while I appreciate where you're coming from as i LOVED having CM7 on my Galaxy ACE - everything just worked... battery was great, it looked cool, and it was just off the stock enough to be unique and rub in iPhone users' faces
If I had the time I'd take it on with you .. chart your work and links that have helped you as you go along.

maybe he say that, because the glide have GB and ics officialy and not JB, so, if i understand what he say, maybe a romCM based y that version can be more stable, and less bugs, i was thinking about a CM9 too. But, if i remember correctly, it must create a device tree and a lot of thing, but i am not sure becausea never do a rom.

CM9 is based on ICS 4.0.4 ...
Check this link, not for our device but it offers some good insight to CM7 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273718
Another one for CM9 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20844007
.... maybe I should just build a linux VM and give it a go in my spare time .... we're so starved for developers for our glides even amateur contributions can't hurt .... in the 2nd link the guy said it took him 11 months to learn how to mod for ICS from no experience so ..... depends on how much you want to commit to it ..

yes, i know that, and i was thinking that a cm9 (because there is a ics fully working in the glide) can be a good option, but not sure

This doesn't belong here, please, some mod, move this to General. Thanks

Flagged to be moved to general. If this turns into a dev thread, then you can flag to move it to the dev section, but you only post in the dev sections if you actually have a product or are actively working on something.
Your intentions seem great, but never wait for someone else to help you, otherwise it will never get done. No one is going to carry you through learning this.
There's a ton of guides out there on how to build, port, cherry pick CM commits, etc. etc. Go find them and start learning. Ask SPECIFIC questions if you have any.
No one shows up to college on day 1 and says I'd like to learn how to be a doctor, engineer, pharmacist, journalist, etc. There's a lot of steps in between. So go and get started.

That doesn't make any sense.... lots of people show up to college and say that, and then enroll in the courses to do that ..

[INFO] Good News Abound - The state of DEV

I thought I'd clear some things up.
If I'm wrong please don't flame me, I'm only doing my best to subdue the general discontent in [sgh-t989]/[android development]...
Steve Kondik, also known as the creator of the godfather of all ROMS (cyanogenmod) personally owns one of our t989s (source:twitter). That, combined with the fact that this is a FLAGSHIP t-mo device probably means that our phone will be supported from the day that 9.0.0 drops.
Now, let me tell you what this means.
As you all know, for a device get non-kang CM9 our hardware must be fully supported. Camera, GPS, bluetooth, egl drivers all must work.
When a huge scale ROM like CM9 is cooked for so many devices I understand it goes something like this
[AOSP modified by Cyanogenmod(teamdouce)] +
[Android Kernel, also modified by Cyanogenmod]+
[Device tree]+
[A virgin sacrifice]=
CYANOGENMOD
Now the interesting bit, is that as soon as the device tree (Eg. Specific driver modifications for GPS, Camera, GPU) includes our device the device tree can be used to power OTHER AOSP ROMS like Miui
I know that gingerbread MIUI already makes use of the CM7 device tree, so in all likelihood they will use the CM9 device tree as well!!!
So in conclusion.
-Because CM9 has a high likelihood of dropping on our devices as soon as it comes out (most likely within the next 30 days)
-Because other AOSP-Based roms depend on the cyanogenmod device tree
-WE WILL HAVE A LOT OF FLASHING OPTIONS SOON
-Probably including CM9 AND MIUI v4 <<<<--------THAT **** CRAY
Thanks for your time, hope it helped
Don't forget the thanks button feels good when you push it.
there are a lot of other devices with cm9 alpha and we are still not an officially supported device. Still unofficially being worked on
I for one is not counting on it, frankly...

the thing is, many of those are KANGed as in not officially supported by CM team
of the few that officially are supported is Nexus S i9020 and SGS i9000
even the "classic" SGS2 i9100 is not fully supported by CM yet, there's more bugs than... well it's not usable as a daily driver
that was just before the end of last year
they might have improved it a bit by now
even the Nexus S version of CM9 is still very buggy, that's why i have the stock official ICS4 instead on my Nexus S
Please please use words like

It takes time for this stuff guys. Anyone remember how long it took to jump from donut to eclair to get a stable rom? And look how few devices there were that actually ran android. This whole "if its not done in 2 weeks then its never happening" thing is a bit unfair. Let the devs dev and those who do not can wait for them quietly.
Why this statement?
From a glaxay better than yours.
tl;dr
I am basing my entire post on the fact that Steve Kondik has our device and should theoretically be working on it.

It only takes 2 weeks to modify the stock rom or cm7/9.
Its the expectation that is built when people act like quantity is all that matters. There are basically only 2 people making roms; Samsung and CM team, everyone else just waits on these 2 so that they could tweak and modify one of those 2. The funniest part is that the use of the word "kanging" is thrown around among these other people.

I'd like to believe, I really would. And I hope this does come to fruition. However, even if it doesn't, the few ROMS we do have are pretty good, and our phone still outperforms almost anything else available right now, so I'll still be happy.
I do have one request, though. Can we figure out a way to make CM based ROMS happen without a virgin sacrifice? There are so many other things in life that require those, that they are starting to become scarce
The fact that lots of other phones have alphas and repositories available to even make kangs does not fare well for our device.

Great phone, needs more dev time and hopefully that comes along with it when ics hits.
We got shafted early with the nexus release so close to the T989 and a dev that promised things but ran away.
New year brings new hope. Great respect for the devs that care about our phone.

C'ya CM9, I hardly knew ya'!

Quick background about my flashing habits before we begin. My first Android phone was the G2, and I really liked it but wanted something with more power. About a year later I "upgraded" to the Sensation and immediately I was taken aback by how awful Sense is/was. It became my mission to get back to the pure Android feel and so I found the (original) HNS ROMs. Those were great, and that phone lives on today as my wifes primary device. Now I have a Gnex, and my "problem" is that it comes out of the box the way it took me a year+ to get my Sensation so there isnt much I want to change. Roughly 2 weeks ago I decided to flash CM9 to see what all the hype is about, and I can honestly say I dont see what the big deal is. Sure, I can change the governor and modify the LED for specific notifications but as far as I can tell thats about all you can do. Clearly there are other 'under the hood' modifications but none of them are immediately evident to me at least, and so I am about to flash JB.
Am I missing something huge that CM9 does that JB doesnt not? Is my analysis totally off? Let me know if JB is a mistake and if I should have stuck with CM9 in the comments below!

It doesn't work for you, then ok. Nobody is going to convince you to use a specific ROM. Its YOUR preference and YOUR phone, so do as you please or better yet, make your own ROM the way you want. If you read you would know people like CM9 for its stability.

Dont get me wrong, I am not knocking CM9 in any way. However, I can tell you I had zero issue with the stock ICS build my phone came either. I am hoping JB proves to be just as stable.
lol a troll thread it is. nobody are allowed to blame CM. best android community ever! and now AOKP is also emerging. how dare you insult the only dev community that give free support for your device. you dont like it go away and keep it yourself. no need to tell it here. use stock rom and go play outside.
EDIT : ok... but still, whats your point of this thread? you want to try JB then go ahead. and since your stock ICS is working well just stick with it and wait for JB OTA. CM are already working on JB, its gonna be CM10. you dont follow news regularly i suppose... CM9 was started from scratch with no features for your info. and its still in RC! what do you expect....

Agreed, but how many of them are actually useful and not just "cool"? After reviewing every single feature of the ROM I couldnt find anything else I thought was worth while. If you have specific examples please let me know, as I spent hours making the decision to ditch CM9 and I hope I made the right choice.

Who is "insulting" CM team?? I have used their products for years and I think they do a great job. The purpose of this thread (if you bothered to read it) was to determine if I will be missing any functionality of CM9 by moving to JB. Assuming you are not currently using JB, then I respectfully ask you to move along and comment elsewhere. This thread is for people who have used both ROMs, and can comment about the differences. Please troll elsewhere LuffyPSP.
Not yet having a Nexus, I can see how CM9 wouldn't be such a big deal since you're coming from AOSP already. But for those of us running manufacturer-skinned-and-bloated devices, CM9 is really amazing. Lets us basically run Nexus software on better hardware.

You nailed it right there, and that was the premise of my first post. Coming from a Sense "enhanced" device the AOSP experience was priceless and amazing. However once you are already running a pure Google experience (stock ICS ona Gnex) there is much less to improve upon. Hence my movement from CM9 to JB, and hence the thread you are now reading. Some people here need to relax and have a civil discussion (not you, some of the others)!
Was this thread really needed? Cm9 is a great rom remember what your parents should of told you if you have nothing good to say then do not say anything at all. So shhhh

Wow, I guess we are back in kindergarten or something? I never once said a single negative thing about CM9. This thread is to discuss what features CM9 lacks that JB has, or the other way around. Do people even bother to read the thread before they chime in?
everybody is entitled to their opinion. And a ROM preference comes down to just that.
(without comparing features and what-not)
CM is living history in the world of Android development, specifically custom ROMs. I ran CM back on my original Droid when Koush first ported it (having to come up with ClockworkMod Recovery just to be able to do so, so that's one big thing that came about as an indirect result of CM). But Cyanogen was the first one to build a ROM from source, something that was a LOT harder back when he started. Many of Android's features were found in his ROMs first. While you may prefer this ROM or that, you should know that the CM team's impact on the android development community is only surpassed by Google itself (and it's by a narrow margin IMO). The CyanogenMod team is absolutely legendary and deserves more respect than that
as far as comparing CM9 to JB, it's apples to oranges. You won't see a CM JB ROM until source is released, that's how they work. And even still, it'll be a while before they get their ROM compiled, stable, and feature-packed
Came across this thread by accident... I think the users here was misled by the thread title... Anyway, i get what youre saying though about running aosp stock and cm9... You feel like youre not missing anything when running stock... Im not sure about stock ics but i think CM9 have alot of under the hood tweaks compare to stock... They may not be noticable to see but they are there hidden in codes ... May i say enhance in coding... Maybe wait for CM10, the wait will be worth it
Edit: apologize in advance if i misunderstood you

I remember when you would see CM before you would see the official ROM from Google... that was back during the G1 days... ah good times... Back then, he would release a basic rooted ROM then work out the extra features and bugs as he went along... but of course back then there was only one Android device, (and later only two or three) so it was easier.
The proliferation of different Android devices has really slowed down the CM development cycle. We are just now seeing a RC for CM9 and JB is already out in the wild.
CM has really influenced Android development as a whole... many features that come stock in Android today were first done by CM and then adopted into AOSP. I remember when Google Devs were asked at a press conference about specific features for a specific device... and they said "We won't do them, ask Cyanogen." Those guys have a lot of respect for Cyanogen, even way back when he worked on his own, and now he heads a huge team of Devs that rivals Google's in house team. (if not even larger)
There are a lot of little features that CM does that AOSP still doesn't and even others do not. Adjusting auto brightness settings are one I really like (especially on AMOLED screens) and also the color balance controls that help correct colors on AMOLED. There are other little tweaks and settings that you can do... and lots of code tweaks. Google must try to balance many aspects (performance/battery/multiple devices/differing hardware) with their code, but CM can focus on certain performance goals (in regards to all the mentioned aspects) and each version can be tweaked for its target device more than AOSP.
Basically CM is making AOSP the best it can be on the supported devices.

exactly. Hell, I think CM is the sole reason I even joined this forum when theming my D1 after Koush ported CM on another forum (I think alldroid or something like that initially). I remember the first experiments with JIT, and wow it was a ***** to get onto the D1 lol. I can't wait to see them play with JB when source drops. any devs into GLIDE CM 10???

the long waited tegra 2 ics is now available so means the drivers to put HWA into function is available too...is it mean that a full working CM10 (or jellybean) rom will be developed soon seems all the crucial drivers are available now...
but 1 thing i found that there are less strong or experienced developers are using the glide as their phone and cause us have less power custom roms and kernels...
maybe we need to promote our phone to those optimus 2x and galaxy r developers...they have strong devs there...cause the devs were using those phone which is much popular and familiar than the glide, but they have lower hardware spec, no keyboard and with 512 only ram...and the devs did a good job on optimized them...
i believe our phone will be freaking STRONG if there are numbers of devs willing to optimized it...

We have dman workng on a rom as we speak... this should of been posted in the general section to btw
I suspect he is but has dman said he is working on a new ROM? I'm curious if he is making his own ROM or porting CM. I think Inception was just a stripped down official version of 2.3.5. I would love to see a CM 10 port and not just a repacked stripped ROM.
Oh my gosh with all the discussions about this. BE PATIENT. You all have no idea how much time it takes. Take a look at Inception. It took 1 week just to theme. If you want a stable, JB rom for bounty, the Collective doesn't release half ass working JB builds. Take a look

Jellybean will be coming soon.. but only when its stable.. no need to release a half ass working build.. just an update.. we are known for stability, not for being the first to the finish line, quality is our goal...

Please forgive me, I'm sorry for being harsh but I've seen so many threads about this in such a short period of time. Dman and his team the Collective dev for 4-5 devices. I've been learning dev for 6 months and so far all I can do is basic tweaking to apks and decompiling them, as well as putting them in a zip.
Seriously. Just be patient, some of you. Reported for moving, btw
P.S:
This is not a port. It's compiling from source. 10 times harder and time consuming. But less chance for bugs.
P.P.S:
Inception was made without the device. It would've been near impossible to build AOSP blindly. (AOSP is pure, vanilla, Android)
P.P.P.S:
This is not an opinion poll. The devs make it how they like it, you're lucky they post it for you. They could just keep it to themselves. Feature requests are always good, but not "I like CM but I don't want a stripped modified ROM"
Thanks
After having spent the past 5 hours flashing various kernels/ROMs in my gf's xperia x10 mini pro due to various bugs, I will have to agree - in the end, stability is a must, and I am certain dman is working his magic as we speak, no need to get impatient

Everyone is being patient. Were thankful to have any devs working on this device. I just havent seen any posts directly from dman about what he's working on for the Glide. I could have missed the post, thats why I asked. But it would be cool to see a post directly from him about it and not just speculation.
Thread moved
No matter how patient everyone is being, these types of threads still keep getting started in Development. They do not belong there. They belong in General. Keep them in general. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please, everyone, just take a sit, grab a drink, and wait for dman to do his magic
I'm all for quality over a rushed job. Dev'ing is hard, especially for an under-popular device like our own. Fewer fellow devs to help out and carry the load, and more people putting the pressure on because they're impatiently excited.
Give the devs their time, it will be alright. I'm still happy with INCEPTIONv1, more so than the leaked ICS.

Where's the development (Beef)?

All I see is a bunch of little kid hobbiests or elitists that never actually interact with the public. Half of these topics have no files because they're not maintained. And the other half blatantly lie to get views. What ever happened to being proud of your work and seeing something through to the end?
And where are the mods in this? While I know XDA allows and even encourages elitism; what about the lying and ill maintained threads? It just makes you look bad. I say, as a community, we need to stand up to this creeping illness and put a stop to it.
Admittedly, there are a couple of good hobbiests that try their best to maintain. I don't fault you guys.
Will you be a little thankful? The threads which have no files are from just 3 accounts belonging to the same person who got banned. These people, even those whom you call 'hobbyists' are spending their time to provide you with stuff which they are not being paid to do they may be learning and their skills will only increase over time. Most of all, this device has outdated hardware and is very difficult to develop for. So if you want more development, buy a One X or a Galaxy S3

OR....I could start a controversial thread in the forum of which I own a phone, challenging the lack of professionalism or decorum that seems to get worse and worse here. YOUR post being a perfect example.
This post was meant to be a challenge but turned into a complaint. For that, I apologize. But the sentiment still stands. We should ask for a little bit more accountability from these people if they want the crown of "developer". Dead links, no support and empty rom threads should be frowned upon. Not defended so blindly as you have.
And the people of whom I speak aren't banned, they post daily. Even einstiens files are mirrored.

If you do not know.......the wildfire S is a budget phone and the ones usually using them are either newbies or learning developers
If you want some serious development....you should probably get a mid-range or high-end phone...This is the best you'll get on such a device
And as for the mod,I also agree that he doesnt look much into this forum
The whole dev section is full of unfinished and buggy ROMs with little or no maintenance and support... but its an old device development was probably thriving back in its day

I see you got a Sony Neo now. Please leave this section if you don't have anything useful to say. More interesting stuff in the Neo forum for you!!
We can say we got some good roms over here, CM7/9/10, MIUI, some sense ROMs etc. Support and maintenance is given to these ROMs until they are bugfree or there isn't a reason to update. CM9 is finished. It is bugfree and the CM team doesn't update its ICS repo's anymore. CM7 is finished too I find. Sense ROMs don't need support. They should just work flawlessly. And MIUI is up to the latest build it can be.
There are some unfinished ROMs out here. Check their thread and rating and leave it, simple as that.
So what I want to say is, show a little more respect to people who do this for free in their spare time. Most likely, the Wildfire S is our first smartphone and we started learning from zero. If you want something better, join the club and learn a bit more!! Up to today, there are only a handful devs for this device (gladiac, alquez, benjamin, dudeman, einstein, woefelderelict, me, ...).
If you see where we came from a year ago and now. I can say this community has given some great stuff.
I could never imagen that MIUIv4 could run on this phone
What makes it even more special is that this device doesn't have official ICS and powerful hardware.
If I see the One X getting CM10 for example, it's like "whatever, nothing special".
If you want Professionalism then pay and hire a Professional.
Stated by others all the development here is VOLUNTARY and at WILL…Remember all the people on XDA come from different walks of life and have different temperaments. XDA is also sort of a social forum where people of the same interests can self-promote, if you are annoyed about this then just ignore it, move on and if think those is not within the guidelines of the forum then report it. Only the popular device forums get most of the moderators’ attention.
You have to understand Developers are doing all this with their time, effort and own funds. It is at their election to maintain, and release any newer builds, which some do. Try building a ROM yourself and then try pleasing everyone who wants to use/try it, you will find it is not that easy. As for dead links, yes there are many, but that is how the internet of FREE file hosting service is, they will only host a file for limited time then purge the file for newer files.
I am not flaming you, do understand that this is a hobbyist community with people from around the world that help, and share what they have learned. Most posts are of people that have an issue with their device and wanting a fix, and then they disappear after they found an answer to their problem.
I am grateful for ALL the developers who have given their talent, knowledge, time and thoughts to this community no matter how small.
Just my two cents.

Xda people are so rude. xD No Offence.
I concur.
Please show me a Rom that's posted for the marvelc, and I'll show you a rom that's unusable. And jelly bean?!? Even though there's multiple titles that say we have it. THERE IS NONE. I'm not trying to bag on the skill level. (Even though I did) Mostly it's the maturity, and the lack of responsibility for the work that is done here.
But whatever, I get it. I'm wrong and I'll stop talking.

here's one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776912
Wild Child sense nothing left to update and works well on marvelc or get the HenseMod VM patch and flash after you flash most marvel Roms. see lots of development for a year

I feel like expressing myself about the roms and kernels available right now for S3;

I've been around since cyanogenmod was just another rom along with bugless beast and whatever the hell was running things on eclair/mytouch and ive compiled kernels hundreds of times back when slackware linux 3.5 was out so i feel like im somewhat of a vet and i appreciate the fact that i have a nice little linux device permanently connected to a broadband connection with so much support in a neat little package.
=)!
and yet i never say anything on XDA i just appreciate... unfortunately i cant post in the development forum because i dont say much ;/
big thumbs up to cyanogenmod for taking their work so seriously and being so persistent, you guys must really love what you do, trust me i know the feeling =]
i just got this phone last week and before i did anything i rooted and installed the latest CM with whatever kernel appealed to me in the dev forum and i thought seriously my screen was defective i had no idea it was just a rom/kernel issue so im glad that over with.
i updated to cm22, and the flicker started again when using the 4/20 KT kernel so ill just stick with cm20 +kt420 for now what an unbelievable combo!
and i'm kinda disappointed in AOKP every time i check the AOKP/task thread somebody is always complaining about something that doesn't work... AOKP used to be my favorite. (when the ICS days began atleast.. i loved it on my gnex)
and by the way... to people having problems flashing between kernels, when you flash a kernel, wipe cache/dalvik, then flash the rom again, then gapps, then the new kernel. kernels include more things than just addition lines of code nowadays and thats the simplest way to work around most issues i see people posting about.
that is all!
Somebody is always complaining about things not working? I see every post in my thread and I don't see what you are talking about. 99.9% of the people that post state how well everything works. The people that complain are the ones that don't follow the simple installation instructions. You might need to read through the thread again. Or just try it out for yourself.

+1, agreed.
Just like the guy who wants to request a theme for a rom, that morphology has for that same rom.
READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Coming from the skyrocket which had a pretty good community I am really pleased with what developers do in their spare time and decide to share when it comes to this device.
There are so many options it can keep a flash junkie busy for a while.
Keep up the great work devs!

I love these threads....I have an idea: If you are disappointed why don't you step up and create a solution or make your own ROM? Its easy to complain about FREE work when you don't contribute whatsoever.
True, don't complain about something people spend all their time on and give away for free ...

We have a large dev community compared to many devices out there. I actually came from a galaxy nexus because I got bored of only aosp roms that were all pretty much the same.
(sorry, had to do it )
Tasks AOKP is by far the best ROM out there for the AT&T S3. I have run it longer than any other ROM i've tried and have had absolutely zero problems with it. I will never use anything else for this phone. Just my personal experience of course.
Whoaa guys ease up on the bashing... OP had only one sentence in his post that was negative everything else was positive.
I think everyone appreciates the hard work and time that devs put into all the different roms/kernels available out there.
Up until the late, I can agree that the 3.4 kernel builds (for any ROM including Tasks) weren't all that great which is why I was using CarbonROM with the BMS kernel (3.0).
But I updated to Tasks 4/23 and everything has been great...super super smooth.
Tasks updated kernel has been smooth. I'm running his newest now, flashes it a few hours ago and love it. The devs for the S3 are wonderful. So many more options than other android phones I've had in the past.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
If I'm reading right, OP is disappointed in AOKP and Task's AOKP.... and hasn't tried them yet?
It takes me longer to download a ROM than it does to flash it, restore data and check out all the main features for functionallity..... and you're calling them out by name without trying them?
Gutsy move.
Nothing wrong with AOKP and we have a fantastic aosp community. They seem to be more active then the original development. If anything I'm disappointed with the lack of touchwiz ROMs. All and all. We have a good community and a good group of developers here. /end thread.

This thread sucks, I want the last 5 minutes back
3rd party ROMs are always works in progress. its not like anyone here is hiding the fact that these are all "in development". not all ROMs are "for" everyone, but that's the beauty of it, there's a flavor for everyone.
I personally prefer ROMs that are subtle improvements to the stock experience which give me a more enhanced version of what Samsung intended. BUT, there are times I'll think about getting a nexus 4, so I'll run a aosp/cm/aokp based ROM while scratching that itch. or those days I wished I had a note 2, we've got options with multi window and page buddy fully working.
if you don't like it, don't use it... simple as that. I've never critisized a ROM or developer if I don't "get" their work, that just means its not a good fit for me and I move on.

Huh?
1.) Looks as though you forgot something as simple as reading. Read my post again. If you consider any of that one post as bashing then I think you might need to check the emotional state you are in at the time that you read it.
2.) You're definitely not reading the OP. He pretty much stated that he hasn't even tried the ROM before judging it. That right there speaks for itself.
3.) Please do yourself a favor and grow up a little. Stirring up the pot with the highschool antics doesnt accomplish anything.
4.) Gold stars for you dude. Keep on contributing this wasteful drama here in a development site. That makes a ton of sense.
