CM10.1: Perf Kernel based on Franco, unter, tf700t et al (version 0.3) - Transformer TF300T Android Development

Hi,
Please try "my" TF300T kernel for Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightlies (as of March 9th, i.e. 4.2.2). It has
- CPU Overclock to 1.7 (thanks to tf700t and untermensch's kernel)
- Various speed improvements from Nvidia kernels and mainly from Fanco's grouper kernel
- Sys interfaces for: GPU overclocking, undervolting etc. (also taken from Franco)
Disclaimer:
- The undervolting part needs to be reviewed. Not 100% sure this works all fine.
- Usage of Franco's Kernel App on the Market (or other apps) to overclock/undervolt/gpu overclock should be possible, as it uses same sysfs. Trickster mod seems to work fine, too.
Source code is here:
https://github.com/chrmhoffmann/android_kernel_asus_tf300t-1/tree/performance
Changelog 0.3:
- more tcp congestion algos added (westwood, etc)
Changelog 0.2:
- make an update.zip
- fix undervolting ladder
- make fsync on by default (if it crashes during undervolting, it might screw u - like me)

Installation via fastboot (taken from XpLoDWilD's recovery install guide, thx!):
Shutdown your tablet
Hold Power + Vol Down until a message appears (it doesn't appear anymore on Jelly Bean bootloader) ("Press Vol. Up to enter RCK (5s)") : DON'T PRESS VOL UP
After 5 seconds, a new menu appears (if it's not already there). Press Vol Down once to change to the USB icon, then press Vol. Up to validate (you have to do this in less than 10 seconds, otherwise your tablet will boot Android OS)
At this point, your computer should recognize Fastboot device (Windows will notify you here, OSX/Linux stays calm)
Flash image with fastboot: "fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash boot boot-perf-kernel-tf300t-cm10.1-0.1.img" (if we suppose the .img is in your current directory)
Once the operation is done, type "fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot" to reboot your tablet
Many thx go to:
- Untermensch, Francisco Franco, TF700T devs, XpLoDWilD for CM10.1, etc.
Press like, if you like and it works for you.

Can you make a flashable zip?
And is it based on Asus stock or CM10.1 kernel?

It is made on top of cm10.1.
I might do flashable zip, but isn't fastboot faster anyway?

Yeah, zip is helpful, when a pc is far from you.
Okey, Ive been using this kernel and I have mixed feelings. It is great for games and for battery (its about 10%=35 min), but my device becomes hot and I have some lags in UI (but it is very flexible for settings and Im too lazy to set it properly). Looking forward to new builds and advises from users

Please any chance you could add TG support in this kernel, i.e. for the TF300TG device?

Would also like to see a zip, but hey its your thread.

Well this is fantastic to see. I'll be sure to test this kernel out tonight.

nice to see another dev for our Tf300

First impressions just after flashing it and using Francos App
- I can see this kernel uses the up to date Interactive governor which is excellent and I can already feel the difference.
- Voltage settings are definitely not working... Rom Toolbox shows the error "Failed getting voltages" and Francos App shows each frequency step upon in the tens of hundreds ghz range. Actual steps are fine as far as I can tell. It can go all the way up to 1700 mhz.
- Max GPU frequency is set to 600 mhz by default and in Francos App was able to set it to 484 (my preference)
- Max companion core can be set though I have no messed with it yet and is currently showing 600 mhz.
That's my observations so far. Getting working undervolting would be awesome and I have 5 bucks waiting for you if you can get the westwood tcp algorithm along with undervolting working chrmhoffmann
Edit: Just curious chrmhoffmann. Since you pulled quite a bit from Francos kernel from the nexus 7 did you also pull the part that disables the companion core and just uses efficient hot plugging instead?

I'm dying to try this but am not close to computer... A flashable .zip would be very very handy. I only used fastboot to first root the tf300t. Havent touched a computer since.

TF300TL wifi
May I ask to insert Tf300TL wifi drivers at least? CM 10.1 works super fast but wifi keeps turning on forever..

Changelog
Version 1.0
* Initial release
Version 1.1
* Compile with Linaro 4.6 to fix instability.
@devs: This kernel package only updates the kernel binary and modules using the same technique as AnyKernel. This is all done with the included updatebootimg binary, which is a modified version of the standard mkbootimg.
Usage should be obvious if you look at the edify script. It can update only the kernel, only the ramdisk, or both (but if you're doing both, you can just write a new boot.img directly and be done with it).
Feel free to extract the package and use the tools to cook your own kernels.
Sweet. Trying it now
tmdcode, can you build a kernel for lu6200 from vs920 cm source? We have cm 10.1 rom for lu6200 which ported from p930. But kernel from ported rom is not good enough for daily use.
@tdmcode
Do you get warnings when compiling with Linaro toolchain?
I dunno if these warnings affect the stability though compiled successfully.
P930 kernel works but SU640 kernel stucked at LG logo.
Moreover, where to get "kernel" file from compiled kernel? Is it zImage?
Thanks

Linaro warnings like this are normal:
unwinding may not work because EXIDX input section ... is not in EXIDX output section
The compiled kernel is arch/arm/boot/zImage. this is frequently renamed to "kernel".
The kernel I posted yesterday reboots when GPS turns on for P930 and VS920. Apparently it doesn't even boot on SU640. So I will be making a new one today.
For me it reboots when connected to BT headphones and making a call ...

Would also love to see morfic colors, I miss this kernel. I know its 'lean' hence keeping extra features to a minimum but I think there's a big chunk of people out there that are too used to the blue tint

Yup, actually just loaded up experimental build and all is perfect. Nice and smooth sound works and best of all so far no app force closes like I've had with other 3.4 kernels. It was probably just a bad flash but since this is working nicely I'll leave the experimental build.

Cool, has this been merged into your 4-5 build already? If so then it wasn't fixed. At least not on my device because with under wear kernel I experienced the forced closes left and right. With lean kernel I have yet to experience a single force close.

[Kernel - Linux 3.4 Hybrid] Devil3.4_0.1.4 - Aosp&Sammy - Dualboot - 16/03

This Kernel is based off the sources of AndreiLux Perseus Kernel (alpha35).
If you consider to thank me, please also consider to thank him http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927852
This kernel only supports roms of android version 4.3.x (sammy and aosp) and 4.4.x!
You can dualboot any of those roms
if you were using this kernel on aosp based roms, and want to use another kernel, you need to reflash the rom, of course without any wipe, it's just to restore modified files
Features (changes compared to Perseus):
- merges samsung open source update12
- dual sound engine
- compiled with linaro gcc 4.8.3
- updated Linux Kernel base to 3.0.101
- updated block subsystem (i/o schedulers) to linux 3.4
- updated memory management subsystem to linux 3.4
- partial updated kernel main system to linux 3.4 (current work in progress)
- zram, zsmalloc and lowmemorykiller updated from 3.9
- DevilQ cpu governor (default)
- fiops v2 i/o scheduler
- working for Aosp and Sammy at once (Big thx to Gokhanmoral for making this possible)
- Portet Ezekeel's Touchwake Feature (from nexus s)
- Oc up to 2.0 Ghz
- Backport from Linux 3.5 smp driver parts
- Wifi driver updated from note3
- backported zswap from linux 3.13 (this replaces zram now)
- backported cpu-boost driver
- possibility to set high/low power mode for wifi when screen is off
- LulzactiveQ cpu governor (from siyahkernel, thx again to Gokhanmoral)
- Hotplug Cpu Governor
- Proportional Rate Reduction for TCP
http://kernelnewbies.org/Linux_3.2#head-1c3e71416a9fdc2f59c1c251a97963f165302b6e
- improve memcopy/memmove
- Using Voodoo Sound and Boeffla Sound
- LED Control by yank555-lu
- ExFat support (thx to samsung for opensourcing the driver)
if your rom is based off PAC, Bam, Fusion, ... :
IMPORTANT: As per notice of 01.11.2013, my CM10.2 kernels do NOT support proprietary Custom Rom frameworks anymore. So if your Custom Rom did not implement the generic framework class framework-2.jar but his own naming convention, you will receive a boot loop. Do not cry about this here but advise your Custom rom cooker to fix this. I will not change this ever again.
The most prominent custom kernels for CM will follow the same approach (aligned between Yank555, Googy, LordBoeffla, Psndna, Temasek and me).
So please do pass this message along to your favorite ROM devs.
If they don't fix their rom, it won't be compatible with custom kernels any more!

Dualboot Faq:
For more detailed instructions, please take a look at this thread from RichMd (thank you for it):
Dualboot Faq thread
Important: if you want to use this kernel for dualboot, i highly recommend flashing my recovery as well.
General information about the recovery:
dualboot menu.
in this menu you can:
* create the secondary system partition (needed to be run once, if you want to install a second rom)
Install-zip menu:
you'll notice there is a new menu, where to select what you want to flash.
if you select kernel, rom or recovery, the zip gets installed as it is.
if you select zipt to pri./sec. filesystem, it is selfexplanary
if you select rom to secondary fs, the zip gets modified to install to the sec. fs. IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL IT TO PRIMARY FS LATER SOME TIME, YOU NEED TO REDOWNLOAD THE FILE!
if you select rom to primary filesystem, it gets installed there, and you can use the same zip later again.
How to install a second rom:
make sure you have already created ssecondary system partition! if not, go to dualboot menu and create it now (this may take some minutes)
The savest way is the way by using nandroids: if you don't have a nandroid already, create one now. Then just select your backup, and restore it to secondary filesystem.
you now should already be able to boot into primary or secondary rom (which are both the same now).
now you can install any other rom as primary.
if you want to install a new rom directly as secondary,
make sure there are no spaces in the filename!,
then just go to install zip. you'll notice there's a new menu at some point.
in this menu you can select where you want to install, and what type of file it is.
if you choose rom to sec. fs, your zip files itself gets modified to be installed to secondary fs. this may take a minute, because the files needs to get zipped again. Imporant: this file is permanently modified. if you think you need it later again, you should redownload it, because the modified one would always install as secondary.
installing a rom as primary, a zip to primary or zip to secondary fs, does not modify the zip.
Additional information:
roms coming with an aroma installer are hard to handle, as every dev can place own commands into it. It's impossible for me, to take care of every possibility. Because of this, it should be the best method, to flash a rom with aroma installer as primary one (and then move it to secondary, by using the nandroid method, if you want it to be secondary).

My links to current devil stuff
New devil recovery with f2fs support for system and cache (data partition to come later). Note you dont need f2fs to use the recovery or kernel but you do need the kernel and recovery to use f2fs. If you convert to f2fs and want to use a different recovery then you must format file systems back to ext4 before changing. Bad things will happen if you do not convert before changing recoveries. Also the rom you are flashing must have an installer script setup for f2fs. I will be updating all my roms to support f2fs when I do their next releases.

It should but it is untested. Dual boot is just a special recovery that allows you to run two roms without flashing or nanding between the two.

Does the screen turn black after splash? Or does it sit with my kernel logo all the time?
Is adb shell working?

I would need someone to try on cm11 or omnirom (generally any aosp rom), to know if the issue is caused by sammy initram files, or the main init file.

About experimental F93 AOSP Kernel[Abandoned]
F93 AOSP (MAKO) kernel for UNOFFICIAL ROMs based on Chadouming, houst0nn & other great guys work. This kernel based on Ronasimi GEEB kernel (https://github.com/ronasimi) with some additions from me.
Features:
- Working camera autofocus (no need to restart stupid mm-qcamera-daemon each time)
- KEXEC Hardboot enabled so Multirom is working (get it here)
- Radio-Iris enabled (FM Radio)
- Intelli-Thermal added (thx faux123)
- Intellidemand cpu governer updated (thx faux123)
- FastCharge reimlpemented (thx faux123)
- Sweep2Wake & DoubleTouch2Wake (thx showp1984)
- GPU voltage control (thx Tk-Glitch)
- Dynamic management of dirty page writebacks (thx Christopher83)
For GPU voltage control & Dynamic management of dirty page writebacks see the 99kerneltweak file in /system/etc/init.d/ folder
Volume Keys trick:
Inverted volume keys on some devices can be fixed this way:
echo 1 > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/vol_keys/vk_invert
or
echo 0 > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/vol_keys/vk_invert
to revert it back
You can insert this string into /etc/init.d/99kerneltweaks and it will be applied each time device boots.
Use RootBrowser to find the /etc/init.d/99kerneltweaks file and edit it using RB Editor.
Add in the line echo 1 > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/vol_keys/vk_invert and save.

Multirom v22 for E975
MultiROM is one-of-a-kind multi-boot mod made by @Tasssadar for Nexus 7 and ported to e975.
It can boot almost any Android ROM. The main part of MultiROM is a boot manager, which appears every time your device starts and lets you choose ROM to boot.
ROMs are installed and managed via modified TWRP recovery.
To work properly your primary ROM's kernel must be kexec-hardboot enabled! F93 AOSP kernel has this feature enabled. It will not work on GPROJ kernel based ROMs as primary, sorry..
Features:
* Multiboot any number of Android ROMs
* Restore nandroid backup as secondary ROM

Installation
MultiROM has 2 parts you need to install:
MultiROM multirom-20140409-v22-UNOFFICIAL-geehrc.zip
Modified TWRP recovery TWRP-2.7.0_MR_geehrc.zip or fastboot flashable img TWRP-2.7.0_MR_geehrc.img
You current rom will not be erased by the installation.
1.Flash the modified recovery (zip thru CWM or img thru fastboot)
2.Flash the MultiROM zip
3.Enjoy!

After I had finally managed to flash the ROM with the linked multi ROM recovery (by the way: does the included kernel support multirom, would be awesome?) I wanted to give some feedback.
This ROM is the most complete android 4.4 ROM for e975. It can be considered as a daily driver.
The autofocus is working, performance is good, battery is good and there are no big bugs.
The bugs I have noted:
- stock cam only uses 8mp, other cams have 13
-can't connect via Bluetooth to my car
- gaming performance not as good as on omni/cm10.2 (epic citadel says 45fps compared to 55fps)

did it applicable to stock or F93 kernel?
F93 is downclocked kernel aimed for battery saving so it is possibe some performance loss..

[KERNEL][AOSP 4.4.x][2GHz/1.89 GHz] UBER 4.1 | LINARO 4.7.4

Hey Everyone,
I'm by no means a pro at kernel building but I've put lots of effort into these kernels so I thought I'd share them with you. The Uber kernel will always be updated to the latest Kernel version and will be overclocked to 1890 MHz or 1998 GHz (2 GHz) you decide which option you are willing to do. Unlike some of the other T-mobile Galaxy S II Hercules developers out there, I actually have a Galaxy S II and plan on having it until Summer 2014. This means that EVERY KERNEL I POST HAS BEEN TESTED AND IS WORKING although it might not be perfect (few things in life ever are).
Even though I don't post anything unless it works I still don't want to be liable for user errors. In other words, if you flash one of these Kernels your warranty is void and I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE for any data loss or bricked devices etc. A Clean install is ALWAYS recommended. That does not necessarily mean you can't install these kernels on you current build it just means that you might have problems if you do. Recently apps have been getting corrupted for whatever reason whether on Stock or AOSP and in most cases they cause RRs and SODs. If you find yourself in one of those situations a clean install is the easiest fix. If you want to try and save you apps then connect to you phone while in recovery using adb. Then type adb shell. Now once you are in that shell you can run this command to fix your apps "e2fsck -yfDC0 /dev/block/mmcblk0p25" it could take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour depending on the state of your apps.

UBER 4.1 - 1.89 GHz RELEASE for AOSP 4.4 KitKat
UBER 4.1 - 2 GHz RELEASE for AOSP 4.4 KitKat

All old Kernels can be found on Dev Host via this link (be careful you read file names and descriptions carefully if you choose to take a peek around) http://d-h.st/users/Cl3Kener/
Installation Instructions
**** IMPORTANT!!! USE TWRP 2.6.1.0+ for 4.4 kernels!!! Failure to do so may result in bootloops due to changes made to TWRP to accommodate SELinux in 4.4 ROMs (Links include flashable TWRP installation zips credits to meekrawb. Just flash them in your current recovery! ) ****
1. For best results a install these kernel after a fresh ROM install (although it still should work if you don't do that)
2. Reboot into recovery (MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RIGHT ONE!!! (See red print above))
3. Flash Kernel Zip
4. Reboot and let Settle for ~10 minutes
5. Install Trickster MOD from the App Store for access to all of the options.
6. Change the settings to something other than INTERACTIVE (Especially if you run it with BFQ it will give you the worst screen lag ever). Then enable "Set at Boot" and push the check mark button at the top right hand portion of the screen or else you will lose your configurations.
7. Enjoy!!!

Error Reporting
I am always open to hearing about your errors although just telling me something went wrong without giving me details does me absolutely no good. So here are my expectations if you do want to complain about something not working:
1. Please list the ROM you are using,
2. The IO scheduler you were using
3. The CPU governor you were using
4. The CPU frequency range (192/1080 etc)
5. What you have done to attempt to fix it.
6. If you were able to simulate it again using the same settings.
7. Anything else you think is applicable to the issue
I would also hope that you would consider trying some of the following things to fix your issue before you ever report it because most of these things will fix the problem without me even having to change a thing.
1) Fix file permissions using a program that does a thorough job. I recommend using the fix file permissions in ROM manager because it is the best I’ve seen. For the record, I don’t actually use ROM manager for anything other than fixing permissions. Please consider trying this first because it tends to fix most of the FC/RR/SOD errors you might have.
2) Make a backup and install a clean version of the ROM you are running and see if you are still experiencing those same errors. You may have corrupted files if you’ve been dirty flashing.
3) If that doesn’t solve it, redownload and reflash, maybe something got corrupted but it still managed to flash. This happens sometimes and I can cause you grief.
4) For advanced users pull a logcat. I know not everyone knows how to do this but you can learn if you check out this OP or other ones like it

3 New Performance Boosters
Hey Everyone,
For those of you who haven't heard I've been using "Koding" as my new kernel build server. Space is very limited with my free account but if you'd like you can click here and signup to help me get more free space. You'll also find that you can learn how to code just about anything (java, html5, php, to name a few). Many developers and adding tutorials and sharing their projects so if you are interested in that stuff make sure to sign up!
I've made two nightlies this morning which need testing. For those of you who were around for my 4.3 you might recall that somewhere along the line there was suddenly a curious SD Card Mounting/Unmounting that would happen after unlocking the phone. I had made so many commits in such a short time frame that I was unsure which one caused the error. I've gone back and added my top three performance improving commits from the questionable series to see if any of these three commits caused the error (I certainly hope they did not, I really hope it was caused by the LZ4 compression and not the performance boosters). Let me know if you see any problems as you use these nightly kernels!!! Remember these are for 4.4 ONLY!!!
Here are the links!
UBER 1.89 GHz
UBER 2 GHz
Cheers!

just to let you know i have not been getting the sd card error on the 4.4 uber
Signed up on Koding maybe you can teach me a thing of two (^o^)

BETA2 For 12/16 CM Nightlies and Beyond
Hey Everyone!
Well Team Chopsticks finally got video working although from what I can tell all of the work was actually all done by our very own @bryan2894 who went and found the patches that fixed the video!!! Great work @bryan2894!!! Part of this video fix included the kernel so here is an updated kernel with the patch needed. This kernel will only have fixed video on CM 12/16 nightlies and beyond. I bet it might work with earlier but you might as well update if you are a CM user so what's the point?
Anyhow, enjoy the updates!
Cheers!
Cl3Kener
PS since I know someone will ask, This actually does work great with the 12-14 HellKat build since it also has working video because we grabbed the patches from CM before they were merged.

That stuff is nonsense. The latest TWRP in fact is much better for this phone and flashing this or any other ROM here IMHO. I tested both CWM and TWRP on more than one occasion and results were identical. For me TWRP is also much easier to get into when you have an issue with a new ROM booting and you need to get into recovery via the power & volume up buttons.

I've flashed CM11 (my builds) about 10 times in the last month and have been using TWRP 2.6.1.0 since Sept. without issue.
Just don't try to flash TWRP from within GooManager, either flash from recovery or use Odin (best).
Since the video recording is working now I moved to CM11 using the @Almite (Rom) and @Cl3Kener (Uber 2GHz kernel) and I can tel you this is solid Rock combination in performance and stability even those are still in Nightlies/Beta so thank you all for this amazing team work...
Is it possible to add the BLN notification (I know some don't like it but usually this the feature can be disabled)
Thanks
