Wireless Charging Device for M7 ? - One (M7) Accessories

Wireless charging will become a nice feature of smart phone and if there is a device to support this ?

it is aluminium. So, no.

You will have to wait for a case that adds the support. But imho wireless charging is a stupid gimmick .. in a car it makes sense, but otherwise it's not that big of a deal .. wireless charging isn't that efficient and connecting a cable not that hard

You could always open up that sexy looking One and retro fit a wireless charging system into the phone. You handy with a dremel?

Disagree strongly. When it works well (Lumia 920) it is awesome. I love just setting it down and not having to deal with micro USB when I go to bed/wake up in the dark. It is by no means a "must have" feature, but it is really nice.
However on the Nexus 4 it is easier to deal with the Micro-usb than having to have the phone perfectly on the pad and if it moves at all it stops charging.

You can't lie down and use your phone when it's charging. Otherwise, when you are up, you don't need anything wireless to charge. Are you that lazy to plug a little cable?

It is a hassle to plug in and unplug the phone to microusb in the dark, that is what I am saying. Nothing to do with lazy or using it while plugged in.
Personally I hate microusb, in the dark it is impossible to tell which direction it goes and always feels like it is going to break.
I use my phone as my alarm so I keep a Microusb on my nightstand so I can plug it in when I go to bed (and likewise unplug it when the alarm is going off) and with the Lumia 920 it was nice to not have to deal with it, that is what I am saying.
Like I said it is not a "must have" feature, but it is MOST DEFINITELY far more convenient.
If you can't understand that I feel sorry for you that you feel the need to endlessly defend old technology because YOU don't care about wireless charging. Is it necessary, must have, or vital.. most definitely not. But it IS better and more convenient, for some of us more than others.

I didn't mean to offend you, sorry
I get what you mean, i still find it useless. I accept, other people might find it useful.

I guess some of you don't have inquisitive, destructive cats. Cords have become the bane of my existence. My phone ends up on the ground every morning if I forget to put it in my nightstand drawer. Never used a device that supports wireless charging, but it definitely wouldn't hurt...

yes this is another feature I left out, My cat LOVES the cord, he could care less about the phone. He didn't bother my 920 on the pad once, leave the phone on a cord and I wake up to my phone hanging off my nightstand. :crying:
Of course if he saw the cord going to the pad then I would find my phone on the floor.

Fair enough . I'm not trying to convince anyone that it is useful for everyone . I just wanted to explain my enjoyment for the technology, as not to be misinterpreted for laziness :silly:

Oh yeah, my outlet is like right next to the ground, so playing with the cord means knocking the phone onto the ground. Maybe I should take precautions and move it up to the ceiling.

+1. Plugging in and removing the microusb causes wear. While I've never had an issue in the past, there are plenty of stories of failed. I'm hoping that Mophie adopts wireless charging and incorporates it into their battery case.

if any of you guys ever had a palm pre with a touchstone, you would understand why he wants it. wear and tear on the microusb is a big enough deal if you keep a phone for at least 24 months. if you are going to power upgrade constantly then its not worth it

I had the DNA for a time with the wireless charger and I really liked it. When home the cell phone is always just on the desk in the office. Anytime I got a call or text or just wanted to check something out or leave, you just grab the phone and then just set it down when done. I also just use a cloth draw string bag with the phone so when home I could just pull the phone out and set it on the charger without taking it out of the bag. I'd love to install a pad for the car too. I wish the One had it.

Pretty disappointed that this phone didn't have wireless charging built in. I assume the aluminum may have something to do with it, but still.
I've gotten so used to the convenience of wireless charging that using a USB cord for power just seems silly. Its such a convenience that I try and make sure phones I purchase have it built in (starting with the Lumia 920, and now the Droid DNA).
Oh well, maybe on the HTC One 2.

That is crazy! I ordered the palm pre inductive charging on amazon for $10 dollars 2 days ago, to do the exact same thing.
Good luck! The glass is a bit touch to separate from the outside ... easiest way was to find a place at the glass edge to slip your nail into and patiently work your way around pulling and pushing ... and then make sure you have a nice sharp tip for your soldering iron because it is a VERY tight squeeze ... not just the pins but on the other side of the pin there is also an IC that is close.
It works great ... my only sad thing was that you have to use an AC plug with the touchstone it wont work via USB ... im curious if it would work with those charging mats though. You also should use the 30 gauge wire because it is even tight with that! Let me know if you need anything
What about using flat wiring? It seems like a better idea and it might fit better on that compartment. Of course, there is the issue with cost but it would look nicer.
EDIT: It might be a bad idea if it requires soldering since the cable itself could be destroyed by the heat when soldered to the terminal. From what I see most flat wiring is used in a connector rather than soldered directly to the board.
dont see why not, this was a quick trip to radio shack type of thing =0P
The touchstone wont work off of my laptop USB ... you have to use the ac adapter, but it works perfect in my truck hooked up to my zune FM modulator's usb port ... I'm growing more and more fond of it ... its nice to pick upt he phone for a call and not have to deal with wires ... also the charging stone set in my center console props up the phone very nice for viewing incoming call information or whatever you are using.
The only downfall for me is that when searching about the touch stone it doesn't appear to work with the mA output of a regular USB port ... but it isnt too big of a deal as it is on my desk.
Awesome man, I was thinking about doing this as well. Those pics should save me a bit of time searching for pin outs

I have a power matt for my Evo 4g. I used it for about a week then put itnon a shelf to collect dust. It charged my at such a slow rate that it took nearly 6hours for a full charge. With a regular cord it only took 2 hours.. I wonder if they reason power matt didnt make one for this phone is because they charge phones so slowly? I see it as a "cute" thing for a phone but not that functional or worth the $ it costs. HOWEVER! if it charged at the same rate uo 800mAh or so like a wal charger it would be pretty cool. This mod does look bad ass! Do you guys know what the charge rate is? Sweet mod amd keep up the good work guys!

I had a Pre and several touchstones before I had this phone. The touchstone definitely needs 1000 mA (1A) of current to work. USB ports on your computer, and also most chargers, will only output 500 mA. Gotta have that solid juice, mon.

I wouldnt think so. The input to where I soldered to is the same thing as plugging in a USB cable, I think it goes through some conversions b4 making its way all the way to the bat terminal. I guess you would have to check the voltages and current with a multimeter, but I would think they are different. If you can I wasted a lot of time lol.
this actually has me curious i might try it on an old battery/phone ... bc if you can then you would just be able to modify your battery pretty much.

I don't think this is a good idea since the battery would be charging all the time (no charging limitation/temperature monitoring) and it could lead to overheating the battery/killing it/exploding.

Recommend most powerfull juice pack

I had seen them for iPhone, just connects directly to the port. I am looking at these http://www.amazon.com/PowerGen-External-Capacity-sensation-Thunderbolt/dp/B0073F92OK but need ur opinion and advice
They seem like a cool idea, but then again you have to plug them in to charge, then if your phone needs juice you would have to have this dangling from your phone.
I think it's easier for 98% of people to just plug their phone into a wall or car. We are all around them often, maybe the people in a job field like construction or similar jobs could use this....then again for the most part they don't have time for playing on their phones so should be no issue for a charge to last all day.

i got something like this, its a little inconvenience but good for airplane ride.
I think extra batteries like this will soon go the way of the dodo. Almost everywhere you go there is some sort of power source. Most everywhere except for the lesser developed countries offer free electricity in public areas. This MIGHT be useful if you are the kind of person who likes to travel to these areas but otherwise, it's very niche specific.
I have a power pack that I use to charge my spare battery (in a Samsung charger). Then I don't have it hanging off the phone, and am getting the full potential charge (as the phone isn't drawing additional power while charging).
With my sg ii, I could get 3 swaps before empty. Very handy on vacation with no available power.
As for the sg iii, I may need to bump up to a slightly larger pack, but then again, the standard battery life has been better.

Wireless charger that doesn't beep?

I want a wireless charger for my phone because I'm always picking it up and putting it back down on my desk. I'm kinda sick of plugging and unplugging it, so a wireless charger would be nice. Thing is, I don't want one that's going to beep at me every time I pick it up or put it down and it's hard to tell from Amazon reviews if a particular charger does this or not.
Any suggestions?

The Nokia DT-900 works a treat with the N5, even with my Diztronic TPU case. Only thing is, since 4.4.2 (I think) the phone automatically makes a beep when you begin charging it. Only way to disable this is through an Xposed module, which you can find here: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.eldarerathis.xposedmodule.wirelesschargingxposed
It's a nice little app that lets you customise how the screen behaves when you begin/finish charging, and whether you want a sound played or not.
Hope that helps.

Pretty much any Qi charger except the ones shaped like a "Hockey Puck" won't beep. Those are the only ones I've seen so far that have a speaker built in to the charger pad.
The phone will also make a connection sound as well. Unless you have your phone on silent.
Just look for a Qi charger that has a 1A (1000mA) Output and you're good to go. The lower the mA output, the slower it will charge.

Wireless Charging - is it worth it?

Hi folks,
I've been looking into wireless charging because, I thought, I could set up my phone to charge wireless; that is, across the room, for example. However, upon closer inspection, it looks like I'd be relegated to setting the device on a "base" in order for it to charge. Now, perhaps I was naive (or dumb) in thinking that I could chat away on the phone or otherwise keep it at my desk while some special hardware emits energy through the air to charge my device(s), but I can't for the life of me figure out what the big deal is about putting my phone on a base—that's connected to the wall(!)—to charge my phone in a manner that's less efficient than hooking it up to our 3.0 cable (which, I might add, charges my phone from the red to full in about a half hour). After all, to even take advantage of this charging method we have to buy a special battery, equipment, and even a new case that's compatible with the charger. I just don't get the value...
So, I defer to the community to enlighten me--what do you think of the setup and what benefits do you see form your investment? Also, do you notice a difference in battery performance compared to the stock battery?
Thanks,
R
Wireless charging is not worth it. IMHO.
the best i seen wireless charging is 0.8-1.0 amps which is nowhere near the 2 amps that is more or less required to charge at a fast rate in a decent amount of time from 0 to full.
Yes, it is not as fast as plugging it in but it is great for the purpose of convenience. Just drop it on the charger when you are not looking at your phone... just one downside: the charging back makes the phone thicker and you cannot use most of the cases. If you dont mind a naked phone, go for it.

reasonable question if you drop that on the pad and just leave and not go back what would it matter if it was plugging and and left? then you'll come back to a more of a charged phone lol
i use my phone all the time. to have a wireless charger is pointless to me since i cannot use it while its charging, its worthless. using the wired method not only lets me charge but also use my device as needed. its 100% crap if you ask me.... unless you're the type of person that doesnt use their device all the time and can be away from it for 3 hours +
I have the (Fast Charging)CHOE Qi Wireless Charger Kit. Didn't have to change any of my OEM. It is slower than the cord but I usually charge overnight anyway. I like grabbing it right out of bed and going. It's 50/50 for me. Probably didn't need it but now that I have it, it's cool. I got it off Amazon so it wasn't that expensive.

Plugged is the way to go.
Until they come out with a wireless method like you stated (without leaving it on the charger) then I will just stick with the wire.
is it worth it to buy official equipment for wireless charging? no
is it worth it if you buy after market? yes! less than $25 bucks and you can have a wireless charger. yes it won't charge as fast as a plugged in charger but if you are charging overnight and want to protect your usb ports, check emails thru the night (i do it for business), and don't necessarily like wires on the side of your bed, i can't see a reason not to.

Can you link to the kit if you don't mind? I'm a bit paranoid about most aftermarket power accessories. Nice to hear about one that works.

No problem http://www.amazon.com/Charging-Wire...arging+Pad+and+Wireless+Charging+Receiver ...charger
I don't have some of the cons that the reviews talk about. My phone doesn't get really hot. I don't have the little bump in the back cover. It doesn't come with a plug but does come with the USB cord. I just use the original plug.

Thanks, I've been looking to get a wireless charger for quite some time, maybe this will be the one.

The benefit is 2 fold for me:
1) Ease. I have a Panasonic base that adjusts it's coil to line up with the phone so at night I just drop my phone on the base and KNOW that it's charging. Better than fumbling with a cable in the dark.
2) Less physical wear on the micro USB connector.
While not a wireless charger, the Amazon 9w speed charger & the Samsung USB 3.0 wire charge my phone super fast.
Wireless Charging
I did it just for the novelty factor initially. It was a good thrill, DIY mod types.
But later, I realized it is actually useful for me. I usually walk around while talking, and with Wired charger, I had to plug/unplug again and again after every call. Also, many times after unplugging, the wire slides down, and I actually have to crouch below my desk to recover it (call me sloppy, hehe). With Wireless charging, I just talk, place it back on the pad, nothing to worry about. It keeps charging while I do my work, and I also save the port (I've had port failing problems with other phones before).

Impressions

Been playing with the watch for about an hour.
First boot:
Needs Android Wear and Moto Connect apps.
Downloads an update.
Needs to be around 80% before it can be used because it needs that battery to install the update.
Android Wear is Android Wear so all the swipes needed to get to things are here.
Size : Not bad at all. I thought it would be bigger but its a nice size. It depends on wrist size of course.
Band : Didn't seem like it is easily replaced. But I don't know a ton about watches. It seems to connect into the watch somewhere, that might be something standard though. Didn't look in the manual to see if there were instructions. (Edit : Included manual doesn't say anything. Site - www.motorola.com/mymoto360 - doesn't seem to be up where there is supposed to be a full user manual)
Battery : Way too early to tell, some drain right up front but there is a lot going on with syncing and all. Need to look at some Android Wear info to see how to get notifications beyond email and Google Now.
Charger : Comes with cable connected to the adapter. (Not a USB cable + Adapter). Screen dims while on charger. Button brightens the screen. Would be nice to see notifications on the charge screen.

Can you flash a picture up of the charger and associated cable please. When looking at the image below it looks like a SB cable plugging into the charging cradle... if so then its a possible way to get fastboot connectivity, if not then I'm back to the drawing board (not that I can do much until late October anyways).

The connection on the base is MicroUSB. So a USB can connect to it. But the charger that comes with the Phone is all one piece (not a seperate AC Adapter and USB cable). It is outputting 5V at 550ma.

Gotcha, cheers. So looks like PC connectivity would go through the charging cradle. Curious to know if the inductive charging standard they adhere to allows data transfer as well... Motorola must have had some way to debug it when creating firmware etc.

The other end of the charger is attached to the plug in, so far I don't see a way to connect to PC.

Its a standard MisoUSB that connects to the dock though so just use a standard phone USB-to-MicroUSB cable to connect to PC.

Hmm, yeah I'm curious about that. I'm not really sure if there is way to transfer inductive data.

I think I remember reading a while ago that it was planned in other, less well known inductive charging standards, but I'm not sure if the current standard of Qi changing has it.

Someone on reddit mentioned adb over bluetooth. Maybe it's that.

That would mean it would transfer data via bluetooth from the PC. I'm not seeing it connect like that. There would have to be another method.
Thanks for providing pictures and giving some insight for what to expect!
Could someone who has the watch please snap a pic of where the strap connects to the body?
I believe Qi does have data. But it is limited to 2kbps and is used for basic communication.

Does anyone know how the band actually comes off yet?
It seems like you would pop the back off somehow.
Actually seeing how the strap connects to the watch, and seeing exactly what the deal is with the metal straps, is like trying to solve a National mystery. I swear, the Illuminati are laughing at me, wringing their hands, and saying to themselves, "...And you will never know, DUSTY.".

There was a picture of the metal band and it looked like the connecter was non-standard. Like the end was a bit longer. Seems like they could have put some kind of door so you could switch out the bands easier. There has to be a way if they are going to have both leather and metal band versions. And in the Verge interview it seemed like they were planning on having options.
So far my only complaint is just with Android Wear. Like swiping away a gmail from the clock but then wanting to bring it up later. Seems like once it is swiped, that card is gone.

Dead Pixel
Drove all over North Atlanta and got the VERY LAST ONE with the Grey strap...everything seemed cool except for a DEAD PIXEL but I have my receipt and am hoping for an exchange whenever restock hits the stores.
One more thing to note...the device had like 35% charge which allowed me to pair to my Nexus 5 but then started displaying a charge battery notice.
I like the Motorola app that gives me a quick update on the current charge levels...connected to my Energizer QI pad so I think that I will just ditch the cradle charger that it came with unless I travel.

UPDATE: Figured that this may have been a crappy unit...the dead pixel is still there but I did a factory reset and it is downloading an update. When I unboxed and I first turned it on it seemed like it was having issues from the get go...now it seems to be running smooth like a champ albeit 1 bad pixel.

They all do that if not fully charged before turning on. You should be GTG now.
They should really mention the need to charge it before trying to set it up.

Sorry man and not to turn this into any tech support forum but just want to confirm that even if the battery got charged to like 65% there was no way to get past the "Charge your battery" screen unless it is either fully charged or charged to a certain capacity?
I did a factory reset and was able to get to the part where it downloaded an update again, rebooted and then immediately came up to that screen which can't be dismissed. The unit is pretty warm so I have placed it on the dock and will check every hour to see how if fairs...just frustrating that it couldn't even start. I am contemplating getting a refund and seeing how others react to everyday usage. I say this based on the fact that you go to the Moto 360 support site and it doesnt have anything under Help Topics...even after you login with a G+ acct or a Motorola acct.
I understand that statistically 1 out of every 100,000 may be the defect and if that is the case then it is what it is...was really hoping to test out a physical watch finally for an app instead of an emulator.

And BTW thank you very much for your help! Patience will be a virtue in this case.
