Is there really 2 versions of xperia s? (lt26i and lt26a)

In the development thread DooMLoRD mentioned that the phone comes in two versions. There seems to be confilicting info about this. I have seen sites say it is quad band HSDPA and there is not 2 different models and only the lt26i. I would like to import to the USA and use on ATT 3g. It looks like the lt26i will work on att 3g. Below is the info listed in the development section of the site.
Model number:
The Xperia S has model number as LT26 and has two models LT26i and LT26a. They differ in the spectrum of frequencies supported for 3G/WCDMA http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_s-4369.php
LT26i - HSDPA 900 / 2100
LT26a - HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
The items passing the fcc was the LT26i and it was listed at quad band UMTS/HSDPA
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas...alledFromFrame=N&application_id=917709&fcc_id
It is also mentioned in this engadget article
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/27/sony-xperia-s-jogs-past-the-fcc-carrying-plenty-of-atandt-t-mobi/
I've pre-ordered the Xperia S LT26i from here. If you scroll down a bit and switch to the specification tab you'll see this:
GSM/GPRS Yes
Frequencies 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Speed GPRS up to 86kbps, EDGE up to 237 kbps
3G/HSPA Yes
Frequencies 850/900/1900/2100 MHz
Speed HSDPA Up to 14.4Mbps, HSUPA Up to 5.8Mbps

It seems like it supports both frequencies... It'll surly work in Europe right? I live in Israel using Cellcom, I hope it'll work fine.
I am wondering the same thing too!
I live in Canada and I want to get this phone but I know Canada will be the last to get it.
Is the ' i ' version going to work for me in Canada?
Please help!
Thank you.
check the Xperia S whitepaper
http://dl-www.sonymobile.com/cws/download/1/105/035/2/1327908899/Xperia_S_WP_2.pdf
"LT26i UMTS HSPA 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1900 (Band II),
2100 (Band I)
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900"
so it's safe to say there is going to be only one version?
if so, I will order my Xperia S and start using it in Canada!!
From what I have seen for the last three months, only one version which is quad band. Today I ordered one from ebay shipping from Hong Kong and I should be receiving it next week sometimes around Thursday. I will report back once I have it.
EDIT:
for people interested, this is the place I ordered it from http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-S-LT26i-Unlocked-12mp-32GB-Android-Phone-White?item=150770279921&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m185&_trkparms=algo%3DRPSI%252BSIC.NPJS%26itu%3DUCP%252BUA%252BMAGEXP%252BI%26otn%3D12%26pmod%3D190644185862%26po%3DLPV%252BLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6745036511139896139#ht_3032wt_1396

This.
White paper clearly states HSPA 850/1900 is included. And FWIW GSMArena corrected the specifications page to reflect this http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_s-4369.php

I have ordered one from Clove in the UK. It should be shipped Mon or Tue.
I will report back once I either trim down my SIM card or buy a micro SIM.
I am on Telus now running an unlocked generic Xperia Arc.
Cheers
I can confirm it is a quad band. It supports UMTS/HSPA Bands 1/2/5/8. See screenshot from my service menu.
PS: the phone is unbelievably awesome.
I know this thread is old.. but my xperia s only gets edge internet conection..! D: No 3g at all! I'm in Bolivia btw. With "a" versions of other xperia phones I was able to get 3g internet connection.. why is this happening?
The 'a' and the'i' signify different versions of Baseband. The baseband determines which 3g network you connect to ! Make sure you pick up the right instrument otherwise you wont be able to connect to 3G. Google "3G baseband" + your Country and then see which model, the a or the i supports that baseband Wrong baseband => No 3g

T-mobile Samsung Note 2 support 3G 2100 MHz?

I am going back to Thailand next year. I will get this Galaxy note 2 unlock and take it with me.
However, in my country has 3G on 2100 MHz with 3 main carries as follow.
3G
Carries name Band
AIS 1950 MHz - 1965 MHz and 2140 MHz - 2155 MHz
TRUE 1935 MHz - 1950 MHz and 2125 MHz - 2140 MHz
DTAC 1920 MHz - 1935 MHz and 2110 MHz - 2135 MHz
I was trying to understand what it says on box of Tmobile Note 2.
GSM Quad-band: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz UMTS: Band I ,band II, Band IV (Dual-band1700/2100 MHz), Band V
I don't get it much and I am not 100% sure that the phone does support 3G in my country.
Please some experts in here could help me confirm this. Would you please answer this for me? I appreciate every reply and thank you for your time.

I think you should be good to go... The International variant has fewer bands then we do on our T-mobile device so I wouldn't expect that you would have any troubles...:fingers-crossed:
A quick search reveals the following frequency bands in use in Thailand:
•AIS:
GSM 900, GSM 1800, UMTS 900 [VIII]
•TOT3G:
GSM1900, UMTS 2100
•DTAC:
GSM 1800, UMTS 850 [V]
•TrueMove:
GSM 1800, UMTS 850 [V]
The T-mobile Galaxy Note 2 supports the following frequency bands:
HSDPA: 850 [V], 1700/2100 [IV], 1900 [II], 2100
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
Judging by this, it seems like your best bet is TOT3G, DTAC, and TrueMove for UMTS functionality. All three of these have frequency bands supported by the Galaxy Note 2.

That's old information. These frequencies were used temporary.
They just auctioned the frequencies for 3G in Thailand. The auction is approved by Thai government. I have described the range of frequencies at the first post. But I am not sure it is in 2100 MHz. Any idea?
Thank you for reply.

6502,6503,6506 Differences?

Besides from Zone related releases, What are the differences on F/W?
I saw that roms and F/w are model depend on the model? And you cannot flash roms for 6503 for 6502 ?
My phone is a 6502 so just want to make sure!
The only thing that I know is c6503 and c6506 works on 4G networks LTE
But c6502 is not a 4G compatible...
I know also that c6506 is much more expensive and not available widely in every country... But why? We will see other's response
Sent from my C6502 using xda app-developers app
There's two differences between the C6502, C6503, and C6506. What network frequencies they support is the main difference, with the second difference being that the C6502 has a barometer and the C6503 and C6506 don't.
C6502: UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV),
1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I)
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900
C6503: UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 2100 (Band I)
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900
LTE Band I, Band III, Band V, Band VII, Band VIII and Band XX
C6506: UMTS HSPA+ 850 (Band V), 900 (Band VIII), 1700 (Band IV),
1900 (Band II), 2100 (Band I)
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900
LTE Band I, Band II, Band IV, Band V and Band XVII
In terms of price, the C6506 is about the same as the C6503 in america, whereas the C6502 is about $50 cheaper, the reason being that the other two have LTE, which presumably costs more to implement what with licensing fees and whatnot.
Now, the main reason you can't flash C650* specific firmware is because, as far as I know, each phone has a different chip for network radios, plus the C6502 has a barometer.
I am currently using the latest firmware 10.3.1.A.0.244 that I downloaded from cad yesterday which was c6503 specific and flashed it on my c6502. Everything works like a charm

Infact, Sony Xperia ZL(C6502) sold in India, doesn't even have LTE Network capability, as Marketed by Sony in Sonymobile India website.
Something seriously wrong by SONY in providing the phone specifications. We are kind of cheated by this.

You need to learn to read the fine print my friend, or else life will bite you in the ass over and over and over...
Here's the networks listed on the site:
Networks
UMTS HSPA+ (Bands 1, 5, 8 or bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 8) * < --- Notice the asterisk
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 or bands 1, 2, 4, 5, 17)* < --- Notice the asterisk
Here is the fine print located DIRECTLY under the network info:
* This service is not available in all markets.
It's not very obvious, but thats the whole point of fine print.
6506 to 6503
I have a 6506 model that I bought in Canada, but I live in Brazil now.
What I want to know is:
- It's possible to use the 6503 firmware to have the 2600Mhz frequency?
Or this is something in the hardware?

Old, old post. I was looking for the bands for every ZL and found this post. Caught my eye that you say C6502 has a barometer. I have a C6502, and it does not have one. I have checked several sites that list C6502 with a barometer, but in fact, it does not have it. Or maybe all this time I had it and I don't where it is!!!!
Found out, I already posted saying the same thing! please delete this post?

Yes. Default preference order is LTE, then HSPA+/WCDMA, then EDGE/GPRS/GSM
