Hi guys, so I have a problem with my Note II. I installed a rom yesterday which is where these problems seem to start from. The phone is glitchy, and when the screen is left of for more than 2 minites or so, it wont turn on unless I remove the battery. Also, after I re-boot the battery level is normally 10% less than before. Another issue I had is that I couldn't boot into recovery after flashing this rom however I have no fixed this by using Odin to re-flash CWM recovery.img. But even after going back to by stock backup I made in CWM before I flashed this rom, the problem still persistes (Laggy, freezes)
All I can think of is that this Rom (Omega 3.0) uses AROMA to install, could that be a issue?
Any Ideas anyone? Im not worried about any of the files on the device just want to get it sorted!

I recomment a full wipe using Odin...
It will definitely get it sorted... full wipe, then install the stock rom...

Ahh okay thanks ... ummm i've come from a Nexus device so I have no experience in Odin. Is it difficult to do?

Right okay that sounds like a plan, I dont know if I will be able to keep the phone on long enough to download all thta and as I cant connect it to the computer unless its in download mode :/ I could give it a go though, could you post a link to what I need please? Yes, im a complete noob
Put the ROM of your choice on internal sdcard (I also put the same zip on the external just in case something goes wrong)
Make the appropriate backups of apps, data, contacts, sms, pictures and whatnot.
Reboot into recovery and do a full wipe, explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909868
Flash ze ROM.
Edit: In CWM, this is how I do a full wipe.

Format cache

Ahh more problems, I dont have a SD card, as in not one that can be removed. Is that a issue?

Still the same problem! Maybe not quite as bad but still there. Locked the screen and then was unable to turn it back on again with out removing the battery. Like, what? :S

Hmmm....that seems to be a prob!
Because superwipe wipes anyyyything! On the phone. Anything.
It couldnt be sofrware issue...
Try to go back up on stock rom, restore your EFS (if you backed it up!) and claim warranty? there must be a solution with sammy for this...

So restoring EFS will erase CWM is that correct? And then find a stock rom to flash yeah?

But atleast stock rom should?
Atleast first flash stock rom from sammobile.com (not the rooted ones here)... And then restore EFS...
Then apply check: try to start cwm recovery :good:

Why restoring EFS?? Also i dont think that restoring EFS is ging to erase cwm
Stock roms from sammobile (full roms) include recovery.img, so after flashing with Odin he is going to have stock recovery.After that through stock recovery, wipe cache+wipe data/factory reset.
And before visiting repair center, flash stock rom from sammobile and check your phone if problem is still there. I think that somehow with the custom rom and restoring cwm backup you f***ed up software

Until you backup and restore your original EFS, samsung keeps the track of the number of times you flash so it does not accept warranty.
Restoring EFS is the only chance to claim warranty.

In order to remove cwm recovery, just flash a full stock rom with pc odin
Are you sure about warranty and EFS? In order to backup/restore original EFS you need root, so one way or another you need to flash one or more times
Are you 100% sure?

Right thats done. I rung them (3 UK) and they said they can just exchange it for a new one ... might be cheeky and ask for the grey model ... so its all good. Thanks for your help anyway mate really appreciate it
Hello all just bought a new Samsung Galaxy SII from craigslist already rooted with 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick. After reading for what seems 4-5 hours i have been trying to put together how to properly without bricking switching it to 10.0.0 Stable as i use to use Cyanogenmod 2-3 years ago on my devices. Seem alot of things have changed and there is a cluster**** of stuff out there now. If you could direct me to a how to or show me how to do it i would greatly appreciate it!

Assuming you have nothing personal to back up that you can't just download from google play or your google account again: download cyanogen 10 and it's gapps. reboot into recovery mode. factory reset, wipe data, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. pick the install zip from sd card or so option, browse to cyanogen, then install gapps the same way. wipe dalvik again and reboot.
I was thinking of doing this myself JMT to CM10. I didn't think there was anything special to do same as flashing from any other ROM to CM10. If there is a special requirement I would think they'd post in in with the ROM post information.

so I attempted to install it and got stuck on the boot logo for 20 minutes or so. So I bricked it lol... Anyway I just flashed it with Odin to 2.3.5 but the link to download file for root capabilities is broken. What can i do? Do i have to go to ics first before i reattempt to go to 10.0.0?

honestly - i backed up everything to my external and then formatted the internal when i went from TW to AOSP for the last time. well worth it. nice folder clean up and then you can just manually take all the stuff you want back.
and you should just be able to odin on cwm or twrp - then flash the rom of your choice.

trying to look up how to do that now .... Searching the forum now... Might you be able to tell me real quick how? I already Downloaded the 5.2 file they suggest to use but can't find a working toturial that is just for flashing the cwm.

If you get stuck at the boot logo, it's called a soft brick. You don't have to use ODIN or go back to ICS. Just make sure the ROM zip you downloaded isn't corrupt (check the size/m5d if possible), wipe everything, and reboot into recovery to try installing again.

You won't fail. Follow the guidelines step by step. Print it out, make notes. Anything. Read. The step by step guide works... that'll get you with cwm. Then, you can flash the zip you will put on your phone... either a SU zip or just a rooted ROM. Follow flashing instructions.
Just realized - you'll be way better off if, once you have cwm on, just format the internal ONCE YOU HAVE A ROM ON AN EXTERNAL SD CARD. then flash CM10. THEN you'll have a fresh AOSP install.

how long does the boot logo stay on for?
Had 2.3.5 - rooted via odin and have recovery 5.2.6 - did everything in proper order and wiping properly.
what am i skipping here? Still spinning taunting me, wish there was a way it would tell me if i did something wrong.

Please excuse my harshness but this is not as hard as many make it seem. I would say if it takes you more than a couple attempts maybe it is just not for you. I only say this because I would hate to see you mess up your phone. Now if you think a bootloop is a brick then we need to do things at a slower pace with you.
If you already have your phone rooted then
1.download goomanager from the playstore and then
2.open it up and allow it to grant permission from CM
3.hit menu button while goo manager is open
4.click on install OpenRecoveryScript
5.let it do its thing
6.reboot into your new TWRP recovery
7.Wipe/Data Factory Reset
8.Flash Rom
9.Flash Gapps
10.Reboot
You can throw in a backup of files somewhere in there if you like.... Your choice

I had a bootloop when using CWM v6.0.1.5. So a friend of mine told me he had success with CWM v6.0.1.5 Touch. So I switched to the touch recovery and... SUCCESS.

A boot loop could mean a bad download or bad flash but it is most definitely NOT a bricked device. All you needed to do was get a fresh download and move it to your SD card by mounting it in recovery. Then, wipe EVERYTHING but the SD. EVERYTHING. Then flash the ROM, Gapps and whatever radio. I go from CM to AOKP to other random TW roms all the time and never have issues.
The 2 best recoveries are twrp or my favorite because I'm used to it is cwm 6.0.1.5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844637
Also if your phone boot loops don't freak out' just either reboot to see if that works out first and if not reboot into recovery. Also with these new recoveries do not use dark side scripts.

Sorry for the necro on the thread, but I didn't want it to be stated I didn't look around some either.
I am going from JMT to CM and want to make sure it's as seamless as possible. I use CWM and usually usually use darkside complete wipes, but I read in a previous post not to use darkside. Is there a reason for this? I can't see why this wouldn't work as it's just a wipe.
Also I use Titanium Backup. Is it possible to backup my apps and data and restore them since its not TW any longer? I want to be able to restore as much of my data as possible and make sure I don't lose it.
P.S. - If thread necroing is not appreciated, I apologize.
hi, i recently got an ATT note 2. The phone I got already got Clean ROM 3.5, so I presume it is rooted, with custom recovery (TWRP when I checked). I am thinking of flashing to a diff rom and just want to ask a few questions.
1-do I need to run triangle away every time I flash to a diff rom?
2-since the phone already has a custom rom, I should not have to root it, am I correct?
3-If I want to install custom, ROMs, can I just put the ROM in the external SD and flash it that way (of course with clear cash, davik, etc as states in the rom).
4-I am thinking of playing with the CleanROM 4.2.4 or the ACE version? any issue with either one compare to the 3.5 that I am using now? any recommendation?
5-anything I need ot watch out before I flash it? I have flashed a coupole of time with htc phone and this is my first samsung phone so I don't watn to brick it.

1. No you do not need to run triangle away usually only have to run it if you are going back to stock and may want to return the phone.
2.Nope it has a Rom you are rooted !
3.That is what I do when installing a new rom factory reset wipe davlik and cache and install you may have to fix permissions with some installs as well after installing.
4.From the bit I played with the new Clean rom it is very stable with minimum if any grief Jedi 9 is also a awesome ROM and my current fave.
5.Just read up lots before you do it follow every step they tell you to take your time it is easy just make sure ya know what you are doing before you start.
6.Enjoy they are a awesome phone !!

do a backup in twrp before flashing a new one, you can always come back
thanks for the info. That brings me to another question with TWRP, when I do TWRP backup, should I backup everything, modem, efs, etc. Also, if I use that backup and I do restore, does it restore everything, program, rom, setting, etc?
Also, if I want to flash the stock ROM, would that mess up my root, recovery etc? Do I need to do anything if I flash the stock ROM? From my past experience, sometimes, it is good to flash the stock rom once in awhile since that seem to do some sort of clean up and it also helped to keep the modem and such up to date.Probaby won't keep the stock for a long time but just thought I may flash it to play with it and keep the modem files up to date. Then flash custom rom. I also read that if I want to use triangle, I must be on stock rom or it will brick my phone, so I want to make sure before I start playing with diff roms.

This is one of nice features of TWRP... ability to backup/restore individual partitions. Android stores various blocks in different partitions. To name a few, System, Data, Modem, Recovery, Boot, Cache, etc. If you just want to backup your modem for example, just check the "modem" box (and I recommend naming the folder to something significant so down the road you'll know which modem it is). When you restore, that folder will only have your modem.. so you can restore a different modem without having to change your rom, (etc). Kernels are stored in the "boot" partitions.. again, if you want to change kernels, backup the boot partition and name it properly if case you want to reflash that kernel. Generally, after my first flash of a new ROM, kernel, modem, I'll create a "boot" backup, "modem" backup, and ROM (system/data/boot) partition backups. If you look in the TWRP folders themselves, you can see the blocks which are backed up... or will be restored. Hope that helps.

When I back up in TWRP, I usually just go with what is default checked off. You will not mess up your root unless you really really tried to. The last time I ever had to flash back to stock then to a custom was on my Xperia X10a... You should be fine flashing a new rom without having to go back to stock as long as you do a good wipe (Wipe System, Factory Rest, Davlik, and Cache is what I do only because it doesn't hurt... I've read you do not need to do all those steps but I do them nonetheless). Do not use Triangle Away unless you plan on returning your phone or send it in for warranty. Only then should you start asking questions about that tool.
The only issue that may cause SOME confusion (not too much but some) is flashing back and forth between a 4.1.2 and a 4.2.1 since the SD card adjusts to User settings (some folders open up for individual users on 4.2 but as far as my experience goes, I have not had any issues with it, I just needed to study my SD card after each flash).
So you should be fine... just do backups, rename them to make sure you know which rom belongs to which backup, delete the old ones from the RESTORE menu in TWRP in case you are backing up the same rom to save you some space (my backups take around 2 gigs sometimes EACH) and you should be good to go... Enjoy tweaking out on your roms!

Kernels are stored in the "boot" partitions.. again, if you want to change kernels, backup the boot partition and name it properly if case you want to reflash that kernel. Generally, after my first flash of a new ROM, kernel, modem, I'll create a "boot" backup, "modem" backup, and ROM (system/data/boot) partition backups. If you look in the TWRP folders themselves, you can see the blocks which are backed up... or will be restored. Hope that helps.

Much appreciated for your detail explanation on the TWRP. I did a quick backup and selected all of the option and now I see the files in my external SD:
modem.emmc.win
data.ext4.win
cache.ext4.win
recovery.emmc.win
boot.emmc.win
efs.ext4.win
data.ext4.win
system.ext4.win
Quick question. If I understand correctly, the modem and efs is not ROM backup, so if I just want to revert to the rom I am currently running with all apps and such, I only need to backup system, boot, data, am I correct?
Also, is there any way that I can retain my data, settings, and apps, without re-download and re-configurate everything after I flash to a new ROM? I am thinking that maybe data will do such thing but not too certain. In the past, whenever I flash to a new rom, I always download all apps again from market and setup everything again, a bit hassle but that's how I did

When I back up in TWRP, I usually just go with what is default checked off. You will not mess up your root unless you really really tried to. The last time I ever had to flash back to stock then to a custom was on my Xperia X10a... You should be fine flashing a new rom without having to go back to stock as long as you do a good wipe (Wipe System, Factory Rest, Davlik, and Cache is what I do only because it doesn't hurt... I've read you do not need to do all those steps but I do them nonetheless). Do not use Triangle Away unless you plan on returning your phone or send it in for warranty. Only then should you start asking questions about that tool.
The only issue that may cause SOME confusion (not too much but some) is flashing back and forth between a 4.1.2 and a 4.2.1 since the SD card adjusts to User settings (some folders open up for individual users on 4.2 but as far as my experience goes, I have not had any issues with it, I just needed to study my SD card after each flash).
So you should be fine... just do backups, rename them to make sure you know which rom belongs to which backup, delete the old ones from the RESTORE menu in TWRP in case you are backing up the same rom to save you some space (my backups take around 2 gigs sometimes EACH) and you should be good to go... thanks for the info/warning on the triangle. I read that it can brick the phone and also needs to be on the stock to use it. Also read that if there's too many counts, it may not work. I guess for now, I just won't touch it.

Think of your Nandroid (TWRP) backup as a roll back to what you are comfortable with (check everything off so you do not lose a thing if you want) in case you find that the new thing you flashed isn't all that it was cracked up to be for you or something messes up. The Nandroid backup is EVERYONE's friend.
As for flashing a new ROM and having to start all over, I will use this as an example: I have two backups; one for Paranoid Android (4.2.1 AOSPA) and Clean 4.2.5 (4.1.2). When I originally flashed my stock to Clean, I must've gotten lucky by just wiping the system (ROM only and not a factory reset) and all my data transferred over just fine with no issues... but when flashing to PA, I had to do a full wipe then start from scratch (which was not bad if you sync your apps and contacts thru Google). Also, you might want to get another backup system such as Super Backup to back up your contacts and SMS messages (be careful with backing up call logs if you go to 4.2.1 ROMs because for some reason, things went wacky for me). Titanium is a good system to use for power users but sometimes, to keep it as simple as possible, count on Google at first for your app syncing (and if you get Amazon App Store, you will have to get that APK to download the apps from that store).
Anyway, from there (if you want to play with multiple ROMs) you now have a foundation. Dirty flashing (flashing a new version of a ROM you currently have without doing a full wipe... just in case you didn't know... for me, I just wipe System [no factory reset] then flash the upgrade) should be fine... again, I'm typing from experience because there are some people who do run into issues dirty flashing and is usually not supported by the devs unless you do a full wipe and flash. I have not had any issues whatsoever dirty flashing both PA and Clean versions.
As for methods of wiping, honestly they're all right... I just posted what I usually do when I want to do a full wipe. Only if you want to do a dirty flash, you won't have to wipe or do a partial wipe (I partial wipe e.g. Clean 4.0.5 to 4.2.5: Delete last Clean Rom backup through the Restore menu, Nandroid Back Up current working Clean Rom 4.0.5, Wipe System, Install the new 4.2.5, wipe Davlik and Cache (again, I do this just in case but some devs say it's unnecessary), then reboot and wait for the apps to reset... all was where it was when I left 4.0.5.

Yes... if you're retaining your current modem and recovery... to restore a rom just as it was when you backed it up, restore boot (which has the kernel), system and data. One your second question, when restoring a different rom , it's best to always restore system/data/boot together. You can use TiBu to restore your user app DATA, and individual apps usually have their own backup files you can restore (like Nova/Apex launchers [which can restore your widgets], calendar, etc).

it says stock rooted, does that mean that it is essentailly identical to what is found on the stock rom except that it will not mess up with my recovery and rooting if I use it to flash as oppose to the guide I saw online to flash to completely stock using ODIN.
Also, I did the unlock with what I found on the thread, would that mess got messed up when I flash to different ROM?

I have never used that rom so I can't say for sure. Try it out and see what happens. If you don't like it, restore your backup.

That rom is one of the most recent 7105 (note2 international) samsung firmware releases... supposedly better battery life than LL7 or LL4. It's the stock MA6 pre rooted (i.e., has SuperSU app and binaries included). No other features added like you would find with CleanROM 4.2.5 for example. It includes rom and kernel... so it will write to your system, data, and boot partitions. Whatever custom recovery you have now and flash this with will not be touched.

If you can root your phone you can find a ROM.
And if you have no idea what a kernel or a ROM and which goes with what, I'd suggest staying away from flashing for now and look up tutorials and videos.

i used the TOOLKIT stuff to get my phone rooted..
is the kernel a essential thing for AOKP? i have already downloaded the ROM. any possibility to get AOKP by using "zip from card" directly?

Every rom comes with a kernel built in.
You need a custom recovery for your phone (Clockwork Mod or TWRP)
In recovery factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, format system, flash rom, flash gapps (Google apps needed) wipe cache and dalvik again and reboot.
If any of this seems overwhelming read read read. Watch a YouTube video on installing a recovery for your phone. Or a video on flashing a rom.
Phones are bricked by not understating what they are doing and downloading the wrong files.

my kernel version is 3.0.31-538866.andriod version is 4.1.1 phone already rooted with TWRP and all kinds of backups
the rom package([ROM] AOKP(Jellybean 4.2.2 )Task650) and gapps are already be downloaded to my pc
so what is my next step?
do i need to upgrade my kernel or flash some kind of kernel in before?

The rom comes packaged with a kernel. Follow the flash procedures on my link to install the rom and gapps. This will wipe the phone so be prepared. You said you already made a nandroid in recovery, right?

As long as you made a backup in twrp, you should be all set to go ahead and wipe and flash
Be sure to have the rom and gapps zips placed on your phone before starting.

When you wipe, you're essentially creating a clean slate for your new operating system to run on. Making a backup will allow you to restore your device in the event you run into any issues in the future. The backup will restore whatever rom you were running when you created the backup. For example, the backup you already made, when restored, will place touchwiz (stock) back on your phone. Once you flash a rom, if you were to make a backup again, it would backup your system with that particular rom. Then you would have 2 backups: 1 that has stock and 1 that has aokp or whatever it was you were running at the time of backup.
You can also copy and paste these backups onto your computer to have in case anything ever happens to your phone.
I would read up on all these processes and procedures a little more before you begin.

Since you're running a custom rom, you could update your recovery to the latest CWM or TWRP and flash a different or updated rom.

One I use is Team Win Recovery Project v2.4.1.0
You should update to the latest TWRP from here: http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/104
You can flash it using Odin. Make a full backup using the new TWRP. Find a rom you want to try, save it to the phone, and flash it using the ypdated TWRP. Don't forget to wipe the phone before changing ROMs.

Ok So I delete the older TWRP get the new one.
Then back and wipe which of all the options?
And of course if I was using AOKP which I really liked, what will your recommend me?
Installing the latest version of TWRP will overwrite the version on your phone.
Install the newest version of TWRP, create a backup of your rom using the new version of TWRP, find a rom you like, copy the ROM to your phone, boot into TWRP, wipe cache, dalvik, data, flash the ROM, reboot.

Also do I use my computer to download the rom or should I use my phone directly?
I decided to go with Hyperdrive RLS16
Currently downloading it.

You can download it directly to your computer and use Windows Explorer to copy it to a microSD card or directly to your phone. It's probably quicker to download a few to your computer and transfer them all at once so you can try different ones.
Have fun flashing ROMs.

Ok as I extract the rom to my external sd card of my phone it's asking me many permissions such as:
"Do you want to copy Cesium.ogg to your device?
Your device might not be able play or view this file."
I said yes to skip all of the next warnings because every time i hit yes comes another warning.
Also strangely the rom took forever to download and the extraction is also taking way to long.
I didn't had to go through so much stuff by that time I downloaded AOKP rom. :/
Still extracting as I update this post... Something is not right...
I will have to cancel this.
It's stuck.
