Can't add Gmail to Mail app since update - Windows RT General

Hi, since the updates to the Mail app I can't add any of my Gmail accounts. It just times out after a while and asks me to check the details are correct, which they are. I've even tried going through 'other account' and adding all the Gmail settings manually but it still doesn't work.
Is anybody else experiencing the same problems or know what could be the problem?
Thanks

It has been posted publically numerous times now that microsoft removed support for syncing to google accounts via EAS in the last set of updates.
Infact windows 8 even prompts on opening the mail app to reconnect your google account (which it does with IMAP instead of EAS).
remove you google account. Then just click add account > Google.
No timeout for me.

Its not working for either of my Gmail accounts, hence the starting this topic

Check your Gmail account settings. Make sure it isn't blocking IMAP. Otherwise you could have it forward all your Mail to your Microsoft account, under a Gmail folder. It worked fine for me after the update as soon as I signed back in.

Seems that the hotels WIFI where I was staying was blocking Gmail accounts from syncing through the Mail app, this happened straight after I had updated the native apps just to confuse matters more.
All working now though woop

application to setup hotmail as push mail

i successfully set up my hotmail in my X1, set the sync frequency to As Items Arrive, intending to activate push mail.
but now everytime i have new mail, i am not notified at all, not even showing of the numbers of new mails in the Today Screen.
i still need to manually go Menu > Send/Receive to update my mailbox.
any1 got solution or what application i need install?
thanks
yes: GMAIL lol
This would be a workaround, but it would work.
1. Create a Gmail account.
2. Forward your Hotmail to Gmail.
3. Set up your Gmail so that you can reply using your Hotmail account. (yeah you can do that...nifty eh?)
4. Go to your Outlook on your phone and set up "gmail-sync" as your push mail account to retrieve from. It's in beta right now but is working 100% perfectly on my Kaiser. (I'm in here because I'm getting a SEX1 in a couple days ) I frickin' LOVE IT - it pushes IMMEDIATELY as soon as the mail comes in. Instructions here:
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=winmo
5. Now all your e-mails will be stored to your phone permanently too, instead of the inbox getting wiped every time you send receive, or whenever you have your timing set up for that.
6. Forget about Hotmail and start using Gmail lol. Just kidding...but if you set it up that way, you can still use your Hotmail completely, Gmail will be practically invisible to you. (Or is it the other way around? lol)
Seriously, Google's free push e-mail service is amaaazing. I am LOVING it.
ohhh pls tell me how to fwd mails
in aol /hotmail pls
Syncing frequency to As Items Arrive works perfectly for me.
I confirm that both hotmail and gmail works as a push mail on my XPERIA.
For hotmail, you can just use windows live connection setup and choose/set "as items arrive" and set the time as "always". For gmail, you can use the activesync feature on outlook mobile as have been told by deezy7 above.
Or else, you can use the feature from Emoze service.
hi all.
thanks for ur advices.
i did add my hotmail using the Windows Live program, did set to "as items arrive" and did set for "always"
but nothing ever appear in my pjone for new mail unless i do it manually using "send/receive"
i prefer to use my hotmail acc ley.
any1 pls help mi.
thanks

But I have a question. Now only one of my mail accounts deliver mail. Is there an option to set more e-mail accounts to use push mail feature ?
If so how to do it ?

If you would like to have a free account for push mail service you should try Emoze. I have been playing with Emoze and honestly it helps me much to get my XPERIA have numerous mail account which works as a push mail ....
Ok, I did some workaround, created another gmail account and forwarded all my accounts to that one, and I receiving only that one.
Maybe not the best solution , but I prefer not to use online services like mobipush and such where u leave them your user name and password for each account u have...
As an alternative to Emoze i use Seven Beta. It provides near realtime push on most types of account.

Hey icbicb, in response to your other question as well, my suggestion would have been to do what you already did, which is create another gmail acccount I also prefer not to use any other online services, and was very happy when Google came out with Gmail Sync, since I've already been using my gmail account for five years, and don't have to give out sensitive information to yet another company
To those here using other services, I'd suggest you give Gmail Sync a try. Deedee, I noticed you said that Seven Beta provides you with near realtime push. I've noticed with Gmail Sync, and having my Gmail open at the same time on my pc at work, that Gmail Sync pushes in actual realtime! I'll hear the notification on my phone first before my page refreshes to show me my new e-mail! Also, I should mention that I am using gmail plug-ins to autoupdate the screen when new e-mails come in, and the Gmail sync sends them to my phone simultaneously or even before my page refreshes, thus, I know that it is actual real-time. Just like blackberry's service! I'm in love with it right now
icbicb, I'm glad it's working out for you , loyjwe I hope you are able to give this a try...
it's a good solution, but if i transfert the mail from hotmail to gmail they will be of the hotmail box...
And it's a probleme for me...
do you have a solution for that
(excus me for my bad english)
Big advantage of Seven Beta is that it works for almost all POP3/IMAP email systems and it keeps all the accounts separate so that replies from your PPC keep the correct return address.
I have it working on Gmail x 2, Hotmail and a POP3 account and all four accounts are independant of each other.
I said near real time sync as i didn't want to claim real time in case it wasn't. I rarely use the web interface since starting Seven so haven't been in a position to check. As i tell the BB users at work if you have time to compare the two delivery times then maybe you don't need a BB.

Hi titeloo...bad english is okay lol, but, I don't really understand what you mean by "they will be of the hotmail box..." need further explanation!!
@Deedee, gmail does that also....so... for example, when you get mail forwarded to your gmail account, if it was originally sent to your hotmail account, when you reply on the phone, it will reply from the hotmail account. Gmail's set up pretty good that way. I believe right now though they have a limit on the number of accounts you can send mail from, not sure if it is 3 or 4. So it's pretty neat that Seven Beta keeps all accounts separate ...btw very nice avatar
Seven is only restricted by the number of accounts that can be set up in WM, think it's 8 in total, that includes your ActiveSync/Exchange and SMS accounts.
Thanks for the compliment. Always prefer to use real piccies for avatars where practical.

Have tried other email clients on phone, no change.

deleting the accounts and re adding doesnt work.
email provider is google apps using gmail pop and smtp servers. on our own domain.
ROM is the stock Telstra (aust) android rom, latest update.
Worked on IMAP but it was slow retrieving emails.
with POP we have all sorts of problems.
why dont you try adding that account in the gmail app or use gmail activesync (google it for the settings)?
for the gmail app you can create labels which will take you straight to the account or account/label you want.
Or add your account to the email app using gmail active sync.
I use it the first way and it works like a charm.

got the email on the gmail app and seems to be working okay.
Just left with the bloody calendar problem!
adding entry's on PC and syncing to phone works fine, they show up on phone, but editing or adding entry's on the phone will not sync the changes back to pc.
What do you guys recommend?

WP7 Mango Beta - Facebook Chat

So i installed the Mango Beta, but i have had trouble setting up Facebook chat.
Every time i go to, it try to do it, it clearly tries to do some oAuth authentication. Most of the time i get a "The address is not valid" in a browser control. Sometimes i get another weird error (it hasn't come up in a while).
So I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this, if they have had they had any success, or if they have found a way around it?
I have tried over both 3g and Wifi.
Same problem on my wp, and i still haven't had success

It seems that you have to add the Facebook Service via Live so that the Facebook Chat gets enabled. I have managed to activate FB Chat on my phone now, but still there are no contacts online. Gonna have to look into that.
Some people said to delete the Facebook account from the phone and add it again but it didn't work for me, same error :/
Works fine for me, I already had fb connected to live though so try that
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I already had it set up with live for 9months or so now.
But i just checked it now, and it enabled its self and is working AFTER (about 30minutes after) i went to account settings and syncronised my facebook account...
Its must just be a werid beta issue
I don't think it is a WP issue (well the whole page loading error is) but my contacts aren't populating the desktop client. Everyone has reported that once the desktop client populated with FB chat friends, that it immediately started working on their phone. So there is some issue going on between IM and FB.

My contacts are also not shown in the Windows Live Messenger. (I have to admit - I do not have the Messenger installed, but the contacts are not shown on the Windows Live Website neither)

I was able to force my Windows Live and Facebook accounts to sync up by just going to accounts and pressing them and choosing 'sync'. Did Windows Live first, then Facebook and a minute later all was well.

Dunno.

Set everything up, and just sit tight for a day. Let is all sink in.
I just got my fb chat working this is how you do it!
Disable facebook chat in the message settings.
Login to your live.com account you used for your phone.
add facebook if it's not under services already. it is click on it anyways and just then click on save. Back on live.com you should now see messenger friends, and it should show all the people facebook available for chat.
Now go to your phone, settings, email accounts, and sync the live account first, then sync your facebook account.
Go back to messaging and settingsm turn fb chat on and everyone should show up! Atleast this is what worked for me, but you have to login to live.com on your laptop, not your phone.

I just manually sync'd my account & it worked fine after... Took my phone a little to pull in my exchange contacts tho

Contacts, different between gmail and gmail exchange? Help

I'm only using Gmail accounts.
I have 3 setup using Gmail exchange protocol. (active exchange sync I think it's called)
And "regular" gmail using play store, gmail app, sync.
Several of my contacts have different numbers from Google and exchange. Yes they are syncing from the same account using 2 different methods and showing different phone numbers???
And I can't seem to edit the exchange information either.
What am I doing wrong? I setup the gmail exchange to get instant push notifications for email, and I have my gs3 set to sync contacts, Calendar, etc.. Everything from my personal account. But obviously something is wrong if while viewing "Bobs" contact info I show 2 different numbers for Google tab and exchange tab. And I can only edit the info under the Google tab.

GMail and Exchange ActiveSync are completely different entities and applications altogether. GMail is a Google product and Exchange and ActiveSync are Microsoft products.
Exchange ActiveSync only works if your mailbox is on a Microsoft Exchange server. GMail has nothing to do with Exchange or ActiveSync.

This, that option is likely for institutions that have google apps running on their M$ servers...
This was posted on BetaNews today:
Almost a week ago, part of Google's "Winter cleaning" involved dropping support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync on January 30, 2013. It appears Microsoft is far from happy with the controversial decision, and the company promptly retaliated by advising Gmail users to switch to Outlook for "the best email experience" across all devices.
As was the case with removing the free version of Google Apps for Business, Google's recent move is subject to criticism. But why does it matter? Google dropped the ball in Microsoft's court, as the latter uses EAS in a number of software products including Windows Phone and Windows 8/RT. The protocol allows syncing of calendars and contacts and uses push email functionality. "Killing" it leaves Microsoft customers without those features when accessing Google services.

Um, your Right and wrong, Google (gmail) does offer exchange connectivity with the gmail server and it works just like Microsoft Exchange.
Now what and how it works on Google's side I don't know. But I will say that EAS with Gmail is (or was) awesome, it was a fantastic method of having cloud backup for contacts. I know they (google) have discontinued it for new accts, but say it will continue for people already using it. I guess I'll see.
Thanks anyway for your input.

Question Syncing Outlook.com Calendar and People with Google Calendar and Contacts

I just received my Pixel 6 Pro yesterday and am having problems trying to connect my Outlook.com account, where I have my Contacts and Calendar, to the phone. I am able to use the Outlook app with them, but I would like them to sync with the native Android Calendar and Contacts apps, like I have done on all my other Android phones.
My last phone, Samsung S9, had an Exchange Activesync type account which I used. The Pixel 6 doesn't seem to have that. I've found on Microsoft and Google web sites that I should be able to use Exchange type, and found the Outlook.com Incoming/Outgoing server and port information, but always get an error that the connection couldn't be made when I try to connect after entering these.
I'm mystified. Since I'm using Google Messages, in the past my contact names showed up instead of phone numbers. Now all my text history is just showing the phone numbers again. Frustrating.
If anyone has successfully synced these to the native apps, or knows what to do, I'd appreciate hearing from you.
Thanks
I know there's another thread about this subject in this section. I think there were some proposed solutions (I don't use Outlook.com, so I don't have any suggestions).
i have an outlook.com account (using office365 w/passwordless setup) and i have to go to "account microsoft com" to get a onetime app password in order to add an Exchange/Office365 account to GMail. once logged into my microsoft account, i navigate to Security->Additional Security options->scroll down to App passwords, then select the Create a new password link to get a password. i can sync, contacts, calendar, tasks and email using the Push option.
my feedback is based on the OP mentioning use of an "exchange type account".
I have managed to resolve this. I was finally able to create an Exchange account doing exactly what I had been doing and it finally worked. It's always a challenge to sync to Outlook.com whenever I get a new phone. Now I can go ahead and learn about the Pixel 6 Pro.

AFAIK, Outlook, whether the desktop or mobile app, auto configures Microsoft accounts as limited exchange accounts (Microsoft switched its public email over to Exchange around a decade ago) and generally there is no benefit to manually configuring them as Exchange accounts since it's not possible to enable the features a normal Exchange account would have.

If you also use the Outlook desktop app, or want a no hassle sync between Microsoft and Google accounts, you may find CompanionLink sync software a more efficient method to sync calendars, contacts, tasks, etc. between your Outlook and Google accounts. CompanionLink offers a range of dual service sync solutions, as well as CompanionLink Pro that includes all of them.
