Stock Browser (non chrome) - Sony Xperia ZL

Ok so finally got it set up on zl. Followed steps from link below and works. You need to be rooted.
1. You need to remove chrome.Apk and browserproviderproxy.Apk from system/app using root explorer.
2. Copy the browser.apk to the using root explorer to the system/app and set permission to rw-r-r.
3. Last reboot phone and browser should now be installed.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187973

I've done this using instructions in the Z forum using root explorer. What's interesting is that the ftf from the US posted in the development forum comes with both Browser and Chrome built in. Wished it came with all the ftfs as I prefer Browser.

Take the browser apk from the us firmware

Yup, I changed it to rw--r--r like suggested but still not working. I checked for browserproxyprovider.odex but there isn't any, just the browserproxyprovider.apk

Has anyone gotten this to work? I wish I had my zl all ready so I can test...

Most likely won't work unless someone messes with the apk

Anyone got this working without root?
I am not at all enamored with Chrome and I did not have default browser on my C6506 at purchase.
Seems contradictory that Google won't simply provide essentially their own stock browser in the market.

There is NOT going to be ANY solution without rooting, unless you get a 3rd party browser from the market place..

This is Awesome! Anyway to get it Tabbed? like Tabbed at the top? I was able to do that with Muti DPI on my Note 2.

I'm not sure what your asking I had note 2 also and this stock browser is not exactly like the one on note 2 I wish it was.

Whoow I want this!! I was doubting between the HTC One and Xperia ZL...
The HTC One comes with a perfect stock browser; Flash, text reflow en quick controls.
The Xperia ZL comes with Google Chrome, which I hate, but this looks very, very nice!
Whatabout Flash? Text reflow? If you want and have time, can you make a little vid?

Flash and textreflow both work.

In this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcItXcUgiEs&feature=youtu.be
of a Canadian user of a 6506 model of the Xperia ZL, you see 'browser' at 00:50:
So I've asked which browser it was:
Which browser is 'browser' that you've showed?
From Google Play? Otherwise a link to an .apk? Thanks for the video!
He answered:
Its the stock browser that comes on the phone - The AOSP Browser - Sony includes it on the Phone.
I've asked:
Wait, whut... :s
On the XDA-forum there is said that it isn't...
Do you have a branded version of the 6506? Provider-software?
Thanks!
Answer:
Phone is completely stock
It's Bell Mobility Version in Canada - Model C6506 - Bought without contract.
To be honest, Chrome works better on this phone than my Note II or any other phone I've owned in the past -
so I usually use it. I made this video the day I got the phone so I hadn't configured or used it more than 4-5 hours.
I'm sure any AOSP apk would work though - XDA should have it.
I WANT IT! No sh#t with rooting, just an .apk Somebody that can provide it? :fingers-crossed::victory:

smart dialer from S?

Has anyone tried to install the smart dialer from Xperia S? I had it on my X10 and loved it.
What's the smart dialer? I Have an Xperia S but am not sure what you're referring to.

This would be great. I'm still very salty this doesn't work stock. So used to being able to just open phone and start dialing and have it auto populate a contact as u type.

Ah okay now I get what you mean. Once we get root we would probably be able to copy the dialer from the XS but as it is now we can't change the system apps without root.
I really enjoyed the xperia s dialer on my x10, kinda dumb that sony didn't include this with the ion. It's funny how the dialer also made the contact's list irrelevant since I could just type out the name on the dialer instead rather then going through the contact list
I was able to download the 2 apks (smartsearch and the dialer) and just overwrite the current phone app. no problems so far....

I would rename your current calender to .bak instead of .apk so you still have it. Then using root explorer move this apk to system/apps the long press it. Click change permissions and I believe they should be set to rw/r/r. Good luck!

It's pretty simple. However this process still did not work on my rooted SGSII. But for future reference of these types of system files here ya go.
- Use Root Explorer to place the file in the System/App folder in the directory
- If the new file is a different name then you can easily just place it in that folder ( of course you have to change Root Explorer to R/O mode instead of R/W mode ) - ( if its the same name then just rename the old file to something you can remember )
- Permissions for most apps would be RW, R, R. Just click on the file and select "Permissions". After you do that you do need to re-boot the device to save the settings.
Note: I did try this with this calendar and it did not work. We actually need a SSGSIII Calendar ported to work on an SGII. I am not smart enough to make that happen. Although I would like to be able to do such things someday. Hope this helps at least for future reference.
I'm pledging $10 towards the Dev who can get the S-Calendar ported yo the T-Mobile SGS-2. Maybe more if it is done by Monday. I know it's not a lot, but it's what I can give.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but this seemed like the most relevant place to post.
I recently put CarbonROM on my phone and, after playing around with it for a bit, realize I absolutely hate the google calendar and just want my old calendar back. I downloaded the apk provided in this thread and attempted to install it but it says I already have the app. Sure enough, if I go to Settings > Apps, it shows up as Calendar Storage, but there is no icon anywhere, such as in my app drawer, that allows me to load the program. I even tried using QuickShortcutMaker, but it can't find the calendar anywhere in the list of apps to make a shortcut. Does anybody know what I can do?
Same situation here with carbon Rom.
Anyone know how to get it working?

I am not sure, but it would seem, S Planer doesn't work on any other ROM than the Samsung Official ROM.
I don't know why... I've testing a lot of possibilities (replace the original AOKP's apk by the Samsung's apk, do a wipe Dalvik, wipe cache, modify the permissions...), a lot of apk (recovered here, recovered on an original v4.1.2 samsung's ROM, recovered on the testing v4.2.2 Samsung ROM...), and it never work on my CyanoGen Mod 10.1...
It isn't an incompatibility with an other home than TouchWiz because I've never use this home with my previous Samsung's ROM and S Planer working correctly...
I will continue to looking to do working S Planer with an other ROM, but I have little hope... :crying:

Seriously, what is the difficulty to zoom out in email, especially a big waste on the giant S3 screen. I still have my S3 but it's just sitting there now. I do email a lot and couldn't take it any more, so I bought another iPhone. I so miss the S3's screen, but it gets on my nerve everytime I have to scroll around to read an email on the S3.

The new play store does look good. I can't wait for the pinch to zoom for emails though as well. This is something that does need to be in there as the real estate on the S3 is just too big to not be able to move around in the email itself.
Downloaded/installed and everything seems to be working fine. Used Root Explorer to remove the old gmail.apk from system/app.
Thanks.

You've gotta try this!

I'm going to risk posting in the wrong forum in the hopes of getting some more attention on this app...MyScript Notes Mobile. I followed the instructions in this thread and am totally blown away by how functional it makes the Note II. This does require root and a custom recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526433
This app vindicates every hope I had for the S Pen. I can scribble a quick note and export the text straight into GTasks, or a host of other apps. I can write page after page and then convert just the parts I want straight into text by circling it. The management of notebooks and pages is simple and intuitive. I liked S Notes OK, but this is in another class.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHHO--XZlqM
The fun part of this is the fact that S Notes is made by the same company that made this app. There is also talk that this app may show up in the Samsung app store before the end of the year, so those of you that are unwilling to root may get a version of this app, too!

Here's a Note2 safe version of the app to flash. The only difference is that the script is modified and rewritten to accommodate the file system of the Note2 as opposed to the Xoom, which it was originally written for. Basically, this version is tested and set up for the Note2 specifically.

"Internet" app from Note 2 [SOLVED]

Hello.
Can someone please port "Interent" app from Note 2? My understanding that app is "official" android's browser, what we got on N3 is something else...
Not only it slow, but many websites don't display properly and zoom doesn't work.
For example http://500px.com/photo/53047668 on N2 I could zoom in on the photo, on N3 I can't.
N3: com.sec.android.app.sbrowser v1.5
N2: com.sec.android.browser v4.3
I've tried restore this app with Tib, but obviously it failed.
Thank you.
[EDIT]
For these who's looking for the same solution:
1) delete|move or rename /system/app/BrowserProviderProxy.apk
2) copy View attachment SecBrowser.apk into /system/app/
3) set permission on it to rw-r-r (chmod 644)
4) optional if you want get rid of samsung's version of "Internet" app: delete|move|rename SBrowser.apk and SBrowser.odex in /system/app

Thank you.

I've wondered this too as the zoom doesn't quite work like on the N2. I noticed it first off with the XDA website.
However, rotate to landscape mode and it looks more like it should. Give it a try.
It might be the knox as well .. I know that using the same internet app you aint able to watch videos from certain sites. This phone has been nothing but security issues out the box .

Decompile a note 2 ROM and then go into system/app and get the sec browser apk and install it on your note 3. The installer should install it but if it doesn't push the apk manually into system app and change permissions to rw-r-r and reboot phone.

That's pretty much what Tib does, but the browser crashes on N3 (the rom I'm using on N2 is stock deodexed I317UCUBMJ4)
I installed the browser from the ATT note 2 Jedi x 19 I believe it was and that worked just fine for me on this N900T running on ATT.

Did you try deleting or moving the 4.3 browser to the ext SD card and then try installing the note 2 browser in system apps?
Try renaming or deleting browserproxyprovider.apk. I had to do this when using aosp browser

That's it! Working fine now (both browsers actually)
Thank you very much,
So far the only weird thing I've noticed is that when it gives you a chose in which browser open a link, both browsers shows as their package name, instead of "internet" is it used to be. And in android's browser instead "search on page" in menu it says "discourage automatic dev..."
Now I wonder what I'm gonna loose without that file?
