[Q] {PRO} Physical QWERTZ to QWERTY - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.
I am doomed to buy QWERTZ MK16i since there is not a single unit with QWERTY keyboard layout left in europe.
My question is, can i dissasemble the phone and change the whole keyboard (physically) to QWERTY (i can buy such keyboard) then flash my rom to whatever i want and change layout to latin QWERTY in the software (there are some ways here in the forum that seem to be legit to change software to QWERTY as well as response of Y and Z (and others) from physicall) ?
I'm really mad i can't get my xperia pro with QWERTY, but i want it so bad, i'll do everything to get this to work.
Theoretically it seems possible, but i'd like to know if anyone else has ever tried it ?

Well, this is certainly not the reply you asked for,but i think you should not buy a Pro now,if u really really want a physical qwerty(swype is faster),then according to where you live, check out the Moto droid 4(can be unlocked) or the samsung captivate.(same)

Sorry, but the droid is too expensive (and i dont like the keyboard), and the other one is not avaliable, i wanted capti but couldnt find it. (EDIT: sorry it's avaliable, but i kinda decided already, dont like 4" screen - too big)
Swype... well i dont care if it's faster, i need tectile feeling when typing, so i dont have to look at the phone when doing it.
Although i will probably use onscreen for lots of stuff, but for texting, i need slide-out.

can i bump here ?

First, swype is not faster, i am really speedy with hardware keyboard.
Second, if you have Root, go to /system/usr/keyboard-config and open the file keyprint.xml and change the line
<Script name="latin" keylayout="qwerty-en"/>
Click to collapse
to
<Script name="latin" keylayout="qwertz"/>
Click to collapse
save and reboot.
Or, should this not work (for me it did) go to system/usr/keyboard-config/layouts and go to the qwerty-en.xml file, open it and swap the z and y.

From what i can tell, you want me to do the opposite of what i need
I want QWERTY (not QWERTZ), are you sure it should be as you said ?
So it is possible to swap the keys and make QWERTZ phone to QWERTY phone as long as i change physical keyboard ?
Greets

Damn i thought you would qwertz physical keyboard change is an Hardware hack.... so buy an pro with qwerty layout, should be easier than change the complete keyboard
Gesendet von meinem GT-P3110 mit Tapatalk 2

Dude, read the first post, I CANT GET QWERTY LAYOUT BECAUSE ITS UNAVALIABLE IN POLAND (or even whole europe)
I know it's a tricky thing to do, but i would like to know if it's gonna work and is it worth it.
greets

bump ?

NVM
I got the one with QWERTY
I think it was the last one in europe

mda pro english rom upgrade

as any one already found a way to change german to english on mda pro sold in germany t-mobile
i'm also extremely interested into this topic.
i'll have the MDA Pro in about a week and want to try alt least 2 things:
1. english rom upgrade
2. switch the Z key with the Y key.
Thanks for the interest !
i have my german mda pro since today.
Problem is the warrenty sticker is in front of a screw.
So i dont know if we can switch eh Y and Z
i was hoping that it will be something like a pc keyboard ... that we can remove only the keys and not the entire keyboard.
mine arrives in a week ... so i still have to wait
do you like the german version or waiting to upgrade to english one ?
i am happy with it,
i will only start working on it till my xda 2 is sold.
in the mean time ill try to make it english and look at the keyboard
To remap the keyboard, use this: http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap_t.html
Takes a while to learn how it works, but works like a charm.
You will have to create your own keymap file.
I was succesfull to change the keyboard from QWERTZ to QWERTY
I wont recommend it, cause the size of Y and Z are a bit different.
The Z is ok and u wont notice, but the Y has 0,5 mm difference on the sides.
U can get used to it very fast though. And u dont really notice it.
This all without voiding warrenty stickers..
Now i need a english rom to enable QWERTZ ->QWERTY
excellent news ... can you give some detailed step by step
thanks
I also changed in the german rom the keyboard from qwertz to qwerty
by editing the registery
hardkeyboard show qwerty now, the on screen keyboard is still qwertz
but i dont use that one so much.
now for a english rom update...
maybe you can try using one of these keybord skins
http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=24&Itemid=1
The most difficult thing seems that we need an english ROM with the german keyboard.
Maybe someone who tried something like this have some answers.
So Guys Can I change the Germany Rom to English Rom on the MDA PRO, and after just change the keyboard settings? I am very interested in ,coz I would like to buy one soon. 8)

Alternative keyboard - ROM incoporated only?

I'm no pro when it comes to these things but I have read a fair amount on here when it comes to these things, but I'm confused so hopefully someone can clarify..
I've got my new Compact 3 from T-mobile and I really can't stand the qwerty keyboard. It works fine with the stylus but it's just not any good for finger typing. I quite like the Touch version where the keys are quite a bit larger, so here's the question..
is it possible to get another input keyboard working on this device without the need for a replacement rom? I'm happy with the officla T-mobile WM6 version I upgraded to at the weekend.

This one is good and free at the moment.
what will happen with the standard keyboard? will I still have choice to use the small keys one?
is there a way to add the touch keyboard but with Russian layout/letters without changing the rom?
I use resco keyboard, it's commercial but I haven't found any other keyboard for that price/features. It supports Russian and about 20 other languages. It seems to be working a little slower than other keyboards but not that much.
Try this one:

It's a very good keyboard, with tons of features, for me the big keys are a must-have.

Keyboard

I know the TP2 has a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard.
But I was wondering is it also possible to type something on the TP2 if the keyboard isn't slide out? So if it has an on-screen keyboard?
Thanks in Advance!

Thanks, been reading things here for a while, just never really had something to post about
I'm prefering the TP2's design over the TD2's design. And I rather have the dual mic and speakers than a slighty better camera.
I was just wonderin if it would have a slide out keyboard and a on-screen one.
Also, it's nice since it will finally have a big enough screen to use a finger touch keyboard with. The old 2.8 inch screens just weren't wide enough.

Yeah I think the touch pro 2 is a lot better too but the thing is that the diamond 2 has a better camera than the touch pro 2 so yeah you will actually have a worse camera if you for the touch pro 2 than if you go for the diamond 2 but the screen is bigger on the touch pro 2 so yeah that works for me.
The landscape keyboard is a big part of my buying decision, but I don't expect it to completely replace an onscreen keyboard. If I'm typing in a short web address, document name or a password, I may not bother to slide out the keyboard if the softboard is easy to launch and goes away quickly.

Exactly the reason why I wanted to know if it had an onscreen keyboard!
Or when you are in the club, and want a galls phone number
I just hope the onscreen KB won't be like the one on the kaiser/tilt/tytn 2. yknow, the way the onscreen KB keeps popping up if you use if even once? that annoys me lol

A brilliant reason for having an on-screen keyboard. I like that!
lol this is a odd thread , the touch pro 1 had an onscreen keyboard , why wouldn't number 2 lol , also , why would it be hard to type if you switch to the compact qwerty on the touch pro one lol i find it quite easy
Well, I didn't know that the TP had a Onscreen one.
And because TP2 has a newer version of TF3D it could be possible that they left it out. I didn't know, that's why I asked.
Plus, the TP1 had a FM-radio, and the TP2 doesn't..
So the TP2 isn't just the TP1 with a better keyboard and biggerscreen.. They added things, and left things out!
according to the htc website, the tp2 does have fm radio.
not sure about the keyboard.
as for the cam, if you really want to take pics when you out and about take a digi cam out with you, there are some very decent small ones available now, try olympus or casio range.
Indeed, it says it has a FM-radio. Don't know why all people are saying it hasn't got a FM-radio.
The touchpro2 will have a onscreen keyboard.
For reference, look at on of the video's on this site. There you will see the keyboard. Nice fingerfriendly one

I think all wm phones have onscreen keyboards, and if one didnt, then someone would probably just port it over.

Greek language suport and Greek HW keyboard?

1.I would like to know if touch pro 2 is compatible with "Greek language support" or if in any way I can change its interface to Greek.
2.If possible I'd like to know if hardware keyboard is changeable too
Thank you.
Nothing?
Any suggestions on how to remap the hardware keyboard? If it can be done..
The hardware keyobard can be easily mapped with AEKmap.
There isnt a perfect layout out there, but im planning to make one as soon as i get a day off from work.

Do you know if this http://htc-touch-pro2.handster.com/software.php?id=3692&for=HTC+Touch+Pro2 works for a foreign device?

it probably works, but since htc has changed most of the ui with custom programs, you wont get much from a program like this. more than half of the screens/apps will be still in english.
maybe in the future someone will crack the ace hellas extrom, or share the greek mui files.

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard in 2 languages

Hi
If somebody has physical keyboard connected via Bluetooth to XOOM please check is it possible somehow to use 2 different languages on it. And how to switch between it.
Normally I use 2 virtual keyboard English and Russian one, but I'm thinking to buy Motorola Bluetooth keyboard to type letter and etc. I know that on Moto keyboard only English alphabet, but it's easy to make engraving on it to have 2 languages, so I need only to check is it working or not.
As I know original Moto keyboard somehow could have only English language (even when you set language strictly to russian. The on screen keyboard will show Russian keyboard, but when you will touch the physical keyboard it automatically just types the English letters). So is it possible to change somehow?
Which virtual keyboard you're using for Russian? I've tried SmartKeyboard Pro, but the layout is not that good...

I use standard virtual Honeycomb keyboard)) But know I prefer to use bluetooth keyboard
I figured out how to use native keyboard after posting
I believe the regular keyboard will work once we figure out how to set Locale to Russian as well. I know Russian is supported by Honeycomb, but by default only English and Spanish are the options. Anyone knows how to enable other locales?
Tablet keyboard
i use an on screen r virtual kwyboard on my zoom that i downloaded from the market. it is call "Tablet Keyboard" made by "Pretty Easy" ther isa free onethat i tested out and it was great. it has an option to use a full keyboard or it split the keyboad in half with one half on the left for the left tumb, and the other half on the right. it also works in connection with the build in keyboard onmy zoom. so there always the option in th lower right hand near the time where you can switch between the two keyboards if you like. you do have to check the boxx in keyboard setting to make it active. i think they even have a paid version for only ¢99.

I know such app, but I'm trying to find answer is it possible to connect Bluetooth keyboard to Motorola XOOM and use it with 2 languages. Like it's possible in virtual. Right know I got answer from Motorola support that their Bluetooth keyboard support only English language, also I got the same reply form one of the owner of such keyboard.
Now I'm trying to find solution to print on 2 languages English and Russia from any Bluetooth keyboard that could be connect to Motorola XOOM.

Try this:
Select Russian virtual keyboard as input and start typing on Bluetooth keyboard. I think it should type in Russian... But I don't have a keyboard to try it. Mine should be here in a few days, I'll give it a shot.

One owner of Moto keyboard and XOOM tired and told. Even if you have only one language Russian, the Moto Bluetooth keyboard still type on the English language(
But if you will get it, try to click SHIFT+CTRL or SHIFT+ALT (if you have such keys on the keyboard), may be it will recognize it. I read somewhere that Moto keyboard support hot command like CTRL+C or V to copy and past command. So may be it will change language of keyboard like a normal PC.
Thank you in advance.
