Any of the procedures linked in this post will work for you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39415390&postcount=5
If you plan on unlocking the bootloader do that first and the unlocked bootloader process is much simpler.

I use this works perfect.

I have a request for you if you dont mind. If you still havent flashed a different firmware and are still running the Rogers one on your ZL, can you tell me if you get an error when enabling "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot". The error should be "Error occured during tethering".
I got the Rogers phone also but flashed it the first day I got it with the generic firmware 10.1.A.1.434. I never bothered checking if tethering was working in the first place. Anyway, I flashed it back to build 395 but the same thing happens so I flashed it back to 434 and unable to tether. Everything works fine apart from that.
Thanks!!

Hi Crash, I can confirm that on my Xperia ZL(Rogers), Portable Wi-Fi Tethering works, i received no Error; connected a device to the Wi-Fi hotspot just to be sure it does in fact work.

Thanks KayEx ... I actually figured it out. I configured the right APN manually but Rogers was also pushing something called Rogers Tethering which couldn't be selected but by modifying it's value from isp.apn to ltemobile.apn, the problem dissapeared.
It's all perfect now! :good:

WIFI Tethering

Can anybody enable wifi tethering?
I try but get an error with rogers rom with rogers kernel
As an FYI, the feature works on stock Rogers phone. [just tried it with mine]
Thanks, indeed my custom kernel was the cause of it all! thanks again
Think we could find a fix for the AT&T Version of this phone? It's one feature I love.

Root the phone.
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-captivate-glide-rogers-and-att/
Use Titanium Backup to remove the tetheringmanager package.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hudXl76Rwfg
There may be other ways to do it but it worked for me. I had to reboot after removing the package or I got an error.
you can also use root explorer (must be rooted) to delete : /system/app/tethering manager.apk
DONE!
tether freely until they snag you by mac address/packet info... At&the now detecting tethering by packet type value
An app called Easy Tether will allow you to USB tether your ATT i927 without rooting.
it does require a software install on your laptop.
Wifi tethering doesn't work ... at all
Rooted or not: Wifi tethering doesn't work on mine.
Tested it with both ROMs available: Rogers & AT&T : same result : doesn't work.
I tried to remove "Tethering Manager.apk" : same result.
I always get the same error message.
After ticking the checkbox to enable "WiFi mobile hotspot"
It says :"Deconnecting WiFi"
And then "Data not available"...
And shuts down the mobile hotspot (which was not even started).
Any idea ?
Thanks.
Update : USB Tethering is now working with Rogers ROM - still no WiFi tethering (exit with an error) !

Your method works! I used titanium backup to make a backup and then remove tethering manager package and now the wifi tethering works
Many thanks!!
Alternatively, you can use the wireless tether app (I verified it works if rooted - http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/) but this method is definitely better
Works real good

Thanks so much! I was trying to use another method, and didn't like the Rogers rom because it didn't have some of the integrations with my Corporate email but deleting the TetheringManager worked! Awesome!
Now I just hope I can get the ICS Update fine when that comes out Hopefully someone will do a stock ATT ICS rooted img
I have a problem: I can start wifi sharing, my computer connects to it, but then it says "limited access", without being capable of accessing to internet. i have tried on two different computers, with no success, both using Windows 7. With my older Samsung Galaxy Young and Motorola Droid 2 Global I have never had any issues.
I have tried both by removing the wifi sharing manager, and also using the Wifi tethering for Root users, mentioned above, but with no success.
Hope someone can help.

I have almost the identical setup.
Samsung Captivate Glide (SGH-I927, AT&T) I927UCLJ3 ICS 4.0.4 original stock ROM Clockwork Mod Recovery Rooted
Downloaded the Foxfi APK file onto my computer transferred it to my 927 and installed it.It works just fine (haven't used it much yet). It is the free "base" version (which is not available from google play store for ATT phones).
You have to go to the Foxfi web site to get the download, without any interference from big brother!

Xperia PRO - no network with any SIM, radio brick ? Any fix possible ?

Hi guys,
I had an Xperia Pro updated to ICS 4.0.4 stock, everything was working ok, one morning at work I couldn't get any signal in any part of the building, removed SIM and placed in a different phone, it was getting some signal, back to Xperia Pro, no signal again and when picking manually one of the networks was giving an error message ( like ... network unavailable or check if SIM inserted ), tried activating - deactivating plane mode, still no change, at a certain moment it rebooted by itself, but still no change.
Went home, tried a different SIM, same thing, did a factory reset of the phone, still same error and won't join any network.
Thought, OK it's time to try a different ROM, maybe more luck.
So unlocked bootloader, flashed Cyanogenmod 7.2, install went OK and all, but still the same problem, it won't join any network with any SIM I put in.
What can I try next ? Anyone has any idea ?
Thanks for any suggestion or advice
I think there is a problem with the hardware.

Hmmm ... it was in my pocket while going to work, I later noticed the lack of network signal, but there wasn't any shock or whatever, just regular commute from home to office.
Additional Info: I've remember something that might be relevant: after the reboot in CM7.2 it kept asking for the SIM unlock PIN I think, and it didn't work with the PIN that I knew the SIM had, after a couple tries I clicked "reject" to avoid locking the SIM.
Not sure if it means the phone become locked ?! should I try to unlock it ? It was normally already unlocked before, not sure if it makes any sense what I'm imagining here ...

I used the Central Europe because the file has a slightly newer date.
Had problems with using Flashtool under Windows, probably some driver wasn't correctly installed as my computer was freezing every time I connected in flashmode. Fortunately I have a dual boot and it worked under Ubuntu.
But no luck, still no service after back to ICS.
But I found some other thread on the net that pointed to check mend, and guess what ... doing a report resulted in "Currently blocked - CheckMEND has a record of this item having been blocked by one or more cell phone networks"

Mobile data is not available or invalid SIM on unlocked SGH-i747

Hey, people!
I have an unlocked SGH-i747 I got last week. Today I tried to enable USB tethering, but I got the message "Mobile data is not available or invalid SIM"; same thing happens if I try to enable Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

Okay, so the question I have for OP is -- do you have network data turned on?
"Mobile data is not available" << means that data is turned off. Turn data on, then try to enable hot spot, then that should work.
http://www.marksatterfield.com
Mark, are you serious?? Of course I have network data turned on! Why would one try to share a disabled connection?
And always remember to read the whole message: "Mobile data is not available OR invalid SIM."
Have you guys tried pdanet? I've used it on stock and haven't had an issue with it.

I have the same issue, get the no mobile data or invalid sim with the built in feature. Tried different 3rd party apps and I get the same message with those. Tried the tether unlocker and that didn't work either. Even did the tethering provision file replacement and it still does the same thing. Contacted Rogers and I have tethering feature. [Q] BB/Firmware upgrade LT15i gives connection errors

Hi,
I was wondering who could explain me why it is when I upgrade the bb or the firmware, that my phone has network problems.
Every firmware above 4.1.B.0.431 gives me these problems.
I'm connected to the network between 10 and 30 mins, after that I've to reboot to reconnect. It's pretty annoying.
On firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 there's no issues at all.
So far it doesn't give me problems with the custom roms I'm installing, but still..
would be nice to understand why it's a problem.
cheers Tim
*
The error message I'm getting is that the SIM card is removed.
No one else has this problem on .431 and .587 firmware?
The error message is that the SIM card is removed..
well is a very rare problem
have not had it so far but since is about the simcard might be something else besides the rom
otherwise you could try to update your baseband with one that works better with your phone

[Q] Help with L35H

Hello,
I recently tried to update my Xperia ZL L35H (purchased in China) to the latest 10.3.A.0.423 firmware. I chose the C6502 variant because it seemed that this was the same model with some regional variations. All worked well, until I tested the mobile data connection, which was non-existent. Considering that both L35H and C6502 both use HSPA, this incompatibility with the C6502 firmware was surprising. I even used the AOKP ROM for awhile and had no issues with data connectivity.
What's worse, I had my CWM backups on internal storage. My bad, I know. Updating to the 10.3.A.0.423 erased my internal storage, so, no more stock firmware backups.
I would be most grateful if some one could help me either:
*Help me find a L35H firmware, or
*Help me troubleshoot the data connection on the C6502 10.3.A.0.423 firmware.
L35h
Glad to see someone else has the L35h. I'm afraid I can't help you with your problem, but I was wondering if you were able to root it, and how?
I rooted mine with Bin4ry's script, but then made the mistake of upgrading, not knowing that it would remove the root. (I'm completely new to Android and had no idea that the phone would come with a bastardized version of Android that doesn't even allow a Google account to be on it, without rooting.) Now I'm on 10.1.1.A.1.253, but none of the rooting scripts will root it now.
I rooted the 253 using :
http://www.droidkube.com/how-to-root-sony-xperia-zl-and-install-cwm-recovery/
Then lost root after updating to 10.3.A.0.423. I rooted that using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43288981
Thanks, I might have to do it this way ultimately. I'm afraid of destroying my phone completely, but maybe it's the only way I'll be able to do it.

You have to register and log in to activate the download link on the xperiablog page. Both the C6503 and the C6502 worked for me. Supposedly, the C6503 adds LTE support, but I don't know if there's a hardware difference to reflect that. I've been using this firmmware for a week now, and it's been flawless.
Also, check out Doomlord's easy rooting toolkit (for root) and XZDualRecovery (for CWM and TWRP) here on XDA, both of which work flawlessly on this firmware as tested on my device.

I'd go with whichever one matches where you're at. I'd have to look it up to know for sure. Both the Indonesia and the MEA (Middle East?) ones worked on mine, and I'm in China. Some locations use the same bands, others don't. I'm no expert in how that works. I might be wrong here, but I think the Settings/Xperia/Internet Settings auto-patch takes care of that for you. My 3G (or any data connection) didn't work until I took care of that.

Haven't noticed any problem like that. Or any real problems. Maybe the notification/SMS sounds are a bit wonky, but nothing that's really bothered me or is especially noticeable. Am still getting notices about how "this version of Android doesn't allow in-app payments" or something like that. I expected those to go away. But maybe it's just because I'm in China with a China Mobile SIM.
Hi Guys! I too brought sony xperia L35H from china....and would like to flash the MEA C6503 version. I installed the flash tool and made the FTF file ready. while just to make sure everything is alright i connected my phone and opened the flash tool.
