[RECOVERY] TWRP 2.5 - i9500 Ex#1 - Galaxy S 4 i9500 Android Development

Hello again, I bring to you, TeamWin Recovery Project or commonly known as TWRP (2.5) for your beloved i9500 (S4). I decided to build this as a number of users (including myself) are not much fans of CWM. This gives you the ability to flash your favourite custom ROMs, Kernels, Mods. I have pushed the TWRP Device Tree to my Github, for all of you curious people. Flash recovery via Odin
Do note, this has not been tested by me and is still experimental. I hold no responsibility
for any problems caused. YOU! Are trying this at your own risk. Don't blame me that I wasted your $700.
Put a scare in you didn't I?
I have provided the stock recovery if you encounter any issues, you can always flash back. It is Odin flashable.

Could you do this? After booting into twrp. (without rebooting into rom)
Code:
adb pull /tmp/recovery.log

Or try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267820
It has removed the touch problem in cwm, might do it on twrp too

forever ever ever???
Is twrp ever coming to our model 9500? Or cm10.1 or anything for that matter there's so much more development for 9505 that I feel like I bought the wrong (more powerful) phone? ??

Has this project been abandoned? The github link doesn't seem to be working.

I think it depends on the sources. Obviously, it was not as easy as expected to port TWRP to the i9500.
As users reported that it doesnt work, there seem to be no progress. I say "seem" as I dont know who is working on that without letting us know (which I understand).
Unfortunately, I have to wait for TWRP as I dont want to use CWM. Just like TWRP too much.
I hope that some dev will be successful.
I guess we have to be patient.
But the participation in this thread also raises the question if there are many people waiting for TWRP as they can use CWM recovery already.
If it is just a for handful of users, I can understand a dev who is not willing to invest this time.

CM 10.2 for Canadian Optimus G (E973/E971)

Hi, This is a continuation of the CM 10.1 nightlies thread. Things has been moving on and we are now at CM 10.2. I have been working with xboxfanj, houstonn and bbelos to bring you this. Again, this is based on mako with adapted change for optimus G. This time we are even more in sync with CAF (Code Aurora Forum).
What is working
Everything.
What is not working
You tell me.
Here are the repo needed for our devices :
https://github.com/TeamPlaceHolder
Of course, you have to be rooted, to have bootloader unlocked and a working recovery to flash this custom rom.
DO NOT FLASH NEXUS 4 KENEL MADE BY 3rd PARTY. THIS WILL MOSTLY PERMA BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
This is simply because people tend to use partition number and not by-name and our partition is different than nexus 4 ones. i.e. The rpm partition on our phone is the boot partition on nexus 4. So flashing a custom kernel will flash a boot.img in your rpm partition and then you are bricked. You have been warned.
Like usually, i can't be hold responsible if you damage your phone during any of the process described in this thread.
Thanks :
Thracky and houstonn who also works with me on this.
xplodwild
codeworkx
IOMonster
sk8erwitskil
faux123
dvhexer
Cyanogenmod Team
and a special thanks to shelnutt2 who shown me how to fix 3G
and juggie who found out the good file to change to get wifi working
Download
All the downloads will go here :
ribs.bbqdroid.org
Use geeb package
Gapps package :
http://goo.im/gapps
Modem :
There is a newer modem now available (From JB update. Houstonn and I extracted each of them and made flashable so you don't need to do the painful process of kdz only to get a new baseband)
MAKE SURE TO NOT FLASH KOREAN MODEM.
http://downloads.codefi.re/houstonn/lgog/modem
How to intall that rom ?
This require you to have TWRP or CWM already installed on your device. I recommand the former. On our device, this mainly mean you have rooted your phone and unlocked the bootloader.
Apparently, it seems these instruction where not clear enough. So I'll try to make them dumbproof. If you are not following these instruction and it doesnt work, dont expect support. It's like buying a cake mix where you only need to add milk and call the company saying their product is bull****, you added water and only got a brick. To add to this metaphor, Asking if it's because you used CWM instead of twrp or reverse is like saying : Did it didnt work because i used a fork instead of a whip to mix it ?
To flash this rom, you have to be on older Bootloader. You can alternatively flash the bootloader i linked in this thread. Read the post carefully before you flash.
Download file in the download section.
Put the rom AND the gapps on your internal SDCard.
Reboot into recovery.
Flash CM rom.
Flash Gapps package.
DO A FACTORY RESET (EMPHASIS HERE)
reboot into system
Thos would work on the E971 from Rogers also? Im able to run ATT kernels and roms just like Telus E973, so i think it should be fine?

Is there ANY WAY you can add to this the changes in faux123's Nexus 4 kernel (see here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/36722-kernellinux-340-makojbuvoctuncifsv001-nov-30/#entry1032460) to reduce the horrible msm_hsic_host wakelock battery drain?

You sir, deserve a punch in the face. Come on. We are not at optimizing things. I'm still trying to figure out what is working or not. This is really stupid.
Note to all other user : I WILL NOT ACCEPT FEATURE BEFORE EVERY PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN SOLVED.
on a related note to your question, if you would have read carefully, you would have seen that i already use faux123 kernel . . .
Anyway, this is not going to be the case soon.
Great work, OP. Can't wait for this build to run smoothly so we can have more fun with our phones.
Only want to add that the work on going to be able to actually build the rom easily is going good !
We've got it successfully building now, just testing our first experiment, then the real work can begin

This is fantastic! Thanks for the hard work guys. I am using a Bell E973, let me know if I can provide you with any files or information. I believe the phones are the same but I am not 100% sure.
One good news, i was able to make the phone boot from our rom !
Thanks for keeping us up to date.
Just here to profess my support for this development. I can't wait to have this running on my phone, Good job team!
I think I have to buy one now. Is it planned to have this as an officially supported device?

[WIP][ROM][DEVS] UBUNTU TOUCH FOR SGS3 D2att

THIS PROJECT WAS ABANDONED, DON'T DOWNLOAD IT!
I finally got this working, i know for SURE these aren't working
anything relating to networking (working on it...)
things that may be broken
GUI
DOWNLOADS:
http://d-h.st/uzs
and
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-to...urrent/quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip (broken again) or http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-to...c-demo/quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip (most likely to work with GUI)
flash BOTH using a recovery of your choice CM first then touch (can only guarantee CWMR working use TWRP cautiously but it will most likely work and you must migrate from a 4.2.1 or 4.2.2 ROM for the correct kernel) and WIPE EVERYTHING if you flash a kernel after with a built in wifi driver it may get WiFi working (Untested theory )
any bug reports or screenies smiled upon
please report if GUI is working

Welp, here goes nothing!
**Edit: and nothing she went. Black screen after initial Samsung logo nothing after that. Let sit while I showered and still unresponsive after I came back. Its a shame, was really excited to try this but for me it is not working.
Why was this rom released to the public? It's barely an alpha release.
Re: [WIP][NOT HIGHLY TESTED]ROM UBUNTU TOUCH FOR SGS3 D2att
Mmm exciting
are you on a CM10.1 kernel YOU MUST HAVE A JB KERNEL and blackscreening is a issue (not my code that broke it) though you should be able to use ADB and wipe everything which is needed so do that

Really helpful comments...but seriously in an open minded context that's a valid question. He could have been asking what order do the two zips get flashed in, does he wipe system and data then flash etc and etc. Not to mention there is talk in comments about wiping through ADB which I'm pretty sure 90% of the ROM downloaders do just that, flash ROMs and know nothing more or know how to use ADB or even know what it really is. Sure a quick Google search van help but over all the common ROM junkie just downloads nothing more.
Also using the adb method I got past the Samsung logo with a white flash then black screen. Will try again later.
it's for developers it's a developer preview no order and i didn't say to wipe (which i should of sorry for being a a$$hole)

Is this the touch recovery version?
Maybe I can fix the pink screen bug. But first I have to know if I could brick my phone and if it is right to use the required data from arcos cm10.1 branch or if they should be from the cm9 branch and so on..
I would try it out but I don't know if I brick the download mod too with flashing a bad cwm. I have no experiences about that for now.

@arco68: Thank U Sir for your very very great support and development for our device! :good:
Now I want to help the Galaxy W users with things I can do. Building CWM is one of these things. I want to support this recovery. But there is only one bug at version 6.0.3.2 (touch and non-touch) and I don't know how to fix it. I think that it would be a "10-minute thing" for you.
It is only a graphic bug because the whole texture and graphic is pink, but you see the buttons and all functions are working as they should. Is this because of the /recovery/graphics.c ? How to solve it?
It would be very nice and helpful to hear something from you about that.
I tried to build cwm for ancora but I failed due to a curropted graphics.c . Now I found that mine is corrupted too so I 'm trying to build a new one
The only problem is that I hav'nt a sgw !
And I have a suggestion , please try to build the cwm with zImage of both 3.0 , 3.4 and one time with 2.6 . It may be related to kernel too !

I'm an android dev beginner and I don't know what you mean. I don't know what a zImage is and how to build it. I'm using the builder from CWM because I only have a Windows computer.

I can't find a download link for the 5.0.5.4 CWM. It's everywhere down
Maybe a try with the stock recovery could help. But there is no downloadlink for it too.
I think that arco knows the solution, but he seems very busy. I can't ask him for help because he doesn't accept PMs from "normal" users.

Using stock recovery as base will limit you only to non touch version !
The only way you can get a working cwm 6.0.3.2 is to clone repo from arco and sync it to lastest cwm from CM 10.1 m3 branch !

Okay. It sounds very intresting. But I did never something like that. How can I synch my cloned repo from arco with CM? Where can I find the right branch? There are so many repos at https://github.com/cyanogenmod
Am I wrong there?
I have only a Windows computer so I don't know how many steps of building it I can do.
Sorry for my helplessness. It is so many to learn. But I want to learn it step by step.

First you need a linux distro ( you may use a virtual machine too )
Then you need Linaro Tool Chain ( or any other toolchains ) + Android SDK . now follow instructure from buffo to builf cwm.after building I think you will have a 6030 then you need to merge cm10.1 branch to get a 6032

[Request] anyone willing to try building this?

Many including myself use twrp for the sole reason that it has more useful features than cwm, anyone want to take a crack at trying to get this going for our device? Thread I linked has all the instructions and I would do it, but no computer available to new at the moment... @CNexus
Lol at random mention...
I was actually looking at this the other day...and you're right, these extra features are exactly why I (and others probably) use TWRP instead of CWM
Man, I thought it was a ROM and I was gonna take a swing at it. I have no clue how to do Recovery's. Lol.

You should try it. I would have to spend a few days just reading about recovery and so on. I have no idea how to port it.

You didn't think I'd forgotten did you
Flash the above in recovery for the non touch Philz Advanced recovery. I'll get in touch with Phil ASAP tomorrow afternoon so we can get some full touch recovery love
Please test the recovery above, I just made sure it booted and flashed 1 zip but if anything else is broken, let me know
@WeThePeople13
If you're interested in testing, I can attempt to add support for the d2vzw and d2att since all of these are pretty similar devices

Hopefully we see the full version soon

d802 STOCK 80220C Open EUR rootable with custom recovery

For Starters....
I'd just like to stay that this is none of my own work, I've just piggy backed off everyone else's work because I wanted the latest stock rooted with recovery. And i am by no means a developer. But I've seen this been requested a few places so I thought I would share.
This installed perfectly on my sim free 16gb D802 here in the UK, so I cannot see any reason why it wont install on any 16gb D802.
First off, Recovery.
I used Philz touch(6.19.7), I haven't had a single problem with the latest version of this recovery for either stock or aosp roms. And if you wish to use this rom please use his latest recovery for a smooth install as i can not help you otherwise. This rom has NOT been tested on twrp so please do not use it for this rom.
Installation
There has been one report of someone loosing their recovery, if you test this zip, use an app from the play store to boot into recovery to avoid doing a full wipe if recovery isn't their.
If you haven't installed a stock kk rom before with custom recovery, you'll need to download the kitkat baseband from Cloudyfa, if your not sure do it anyway, it wont hurt - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680948
If you wish to be rooted the easiest way is to make root when prompted as you exit recovery and then install SuperSu from the play store. Alternatively you can download the latest SuperSu and flash it in recovery.
Second download THE ROM - https://mega.co.nz/#!lt9AhYzD!kOjq9_C8Ag-vP1D8UKnbAl3dwx8zmK__BETgGuQdSnE
Mirror - Thanks Wimmme - https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_CmKeXB6dmrU0ZUbXBKY2Vmanc/edit
Back up personal data
Nandroid Backup
Do A Full Wipe!!
Flash KitKat Baseband if needed.
Flash Rom
Flash SuperSu *Optional, can be flashed or installed after.
Reboot!
If you feel it is a bit sluggish comparing with the custom stock roms, you can always reduce the animation speed in developer settings.
Problems with 4G/LTE?
Get a file explorer with root. Go to root of phone -> system -> build.prop and change ro.telephony.default_network from 9 to 11 and save. Annoyingly will be lost after reboot. If it still doesn't work after this change, try also along with this edit:

Will this work on 32gb version ?

I can't say for sure as i can not test but, i can tell you that people with 32gb phones have had success with the same flashable zip without the mods for custom recovery if you check their threads. So my guess is yes, it would work, but there is no guarantee, if you try just make sure you have a 32gb rom you've used before and know if working on the phone to flash back to or of course do a nandroid backup.
If anyone has tried this, please post and let me know its running. So I can leave the thread up with confidence. Thanks.

Why not at least look? Or search? My thread is here:

And - why are you asking for a kdz in this thread? Off topic, largely

It is working on my Singaporean 32GB D802. I didn't have to do a full wipe and it's ok.
Just flashed it all and it works great.

I'm really sorry about that! But to my understanding it shouldn't even be possible since only the system, modem and cust partitions are in the zip so your recovery shouldn't be touched.
Are you sure you didn't flash anything else before hand? what's steps did you take? followed my instructions?
To anyone who wants to test if they have recovery, then I recommend using an app from the play store in order to reach your recovery, that way i think you'll avoid wiping your phone if you truly have no recovery anymore after flashing the zip.
Update
So your post has really made me panic as obviously I only have good intentions and feel terrible about your loss of personal data. But I've double even triple checked everything, not much can go wrong, I just tested the zip with TWRP. And I'm still getting a good install with recovery. You do have the D802 yes? as clearly the zip only contains the patched D802 boot only.
I've literally only just started developing for a few months now after a recent uni project inspired me. Building myself a custom rom adding the features I miss but such problems like this scare me of ever sharing them. Too much responsibility.
Again really sorry, would love to know what has gone wrong. I'll leave the link up for now unless a similar problem occurs in which it will be removed.
Maybe he accidentaly flashed lenash's zipfile instead of yours. Then he would lose custom recovery.

if nobody else has had that problem and they followed your instructions unless there are loads with the same problem then its got to be user error, please dont be put off as im sure your confidence will grow with time thanks for bringing this to release and please carry on doing what you do as we need good people like yourselves to keep on doing this stuff, cheers and thanks for sharing

Yeah, I guess your right, I thought I was pretty safe sharing this as like I said it isn't my own work just patched together what the experienced developers have released. But I have work in progress I think people will enjoy. Just didn't realise how responsible i would feel untill i read that message and had a full blown panic haha.
has someone seen any change/improvement vs 20b?
Since kitkat my g2 stutter when playing youtube HD video over wifi when bluetooth is enabled. as soon as I turn it off, it plays smoothly.
I would really like to know if this release fix it before upgrading.
