[Q] Re-lock bootloader Xperia S - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Hello guys, I have a Xperia S and I unlocked my bootloader to install OpenSemc. But yesterday I went back to stock ICS using Emma, to later get a direct update to JB. But I know that I can't do this update using unlocked bootloader, because it will "brick" the phone. So I'm wondering if I re-lock the bootloader to get this update, will I be able to unlock it again using the same unlock key and install custom ROM's again?
Thanks in advanced.

You can get the JB update even on unlocked bootloader. No need to relock the bootloader.:good:
Just avoid OTA updates though.

Hmm, you mean through PC Companion and SEUS, or through .ftf files made by users?
But if I re-lock the BL, will I be able to unlock it again? That's what I want to really know, hehe...

If you relocked your bl you can't use PC Companion or SUS. This will brick your phone. You should use FlashTool or EMMA.

I don't think I can agree with you. 3 days ago I relock my BL and Update my phone through SUS.

Yes Pharix is right. The device may get bricked only if u try using PCC with unlocked bootloader. With locked bootloader nothing wrong should happen.
Edited:- Because of abcdjdj's comment below. But i mentioned to keep the bootloader locked just in-case ! As saying that the chances of bricking the device is higher when the bootloader is unlocked than locked bootloader.

Thanks all you guys!

Actually it is not possible to brick an unlocked BL phone by using PC companion. It won't update at all and will give a modified software error. Ota update will definitely brick.

so if its brick via ota, can't we recover it by flashing any other ftf via flashtool?

Nobody knows...
But why do you want to know that? It is always dangerous to do such a thing.

Do we need to flash the official Jb kernel.sin or the PC companion is going to install automatically wrt Ftf? I mean after relock bootloader & installing official ftf via PC companion,

PCC will install full firmware automatically (and bug-freely).

Not with SEUS or OTA from Sony Ericsson, it wil brick your phone. But you can flash the official whit flashtool, when ICS official comes for the arc
If you relock your bootloader you can update with SEUS again. Shouldn't cause any problems

But why unlock your bootloader if don't want to use costom ROMs of kernels? Whit unlocked bootloader and costom rom, or kernel, you can't update whit OTA or SEUS. And when you relock the bootloader you must first flash back to stock, or you will brick your phone to, when relocking your bootloader whit costom kernels.

Remember, when you unlock the official way, you lose your DRM, and when you relock it again you don't get back your DRM.

Once i tried to update my arc from GB to ICS 4.0.4 i had unlocked bootloader,so i had to lock the bootloader and then update via PC Compenion.Don't use those just use FlashTool for flashing FW and find 4.1.b.0.587 .tft file so you can flash it with FlahsTool.Try googleing for FlashTool for Xperia Arc and follow the tutorial, you'll get it.Good luck.Cheers

Bootloader has nothing to do with rooting, it will not affect it.
And you don't have to unroot.

Just flash a stock ftf with flash tool. First, do a hard reset by pressing and holding the volume button and power button till it vibrates 3 times. Then prepare the ftf for flashing with flashtool and connect your phone in flash mode and allow the it to flash. Power your device on and enjoy.

Flashing a ftf with Flashtool does not void your warranty and it works with unlocked and locked bootloader. Sony update service and PC companion work only for locked bootloader. If you have unlocked your bootloader, you can use EMMA - Sony's Flashtool.

[Q] I want to reset Xperia S

So I have the Trinity Rom installed, unlocked bootloader, trinity x kernel and a rooted Xperia S. I want to go back to the beginning, to start everything from scratch. Can someone tell me a step by step procedure to revert to the old system because the PC Companion won't repair it because of the custom firmware.
Thanks!
Download and install Emma(the sony developers tool). That can reflash your phone to stock firmware. Or flash an ftf though Flashtool.
Also, there is a sop on the xda website regarding relocking the bootloader if you want to do that.

I have flashed the stock kernel somehow and relocked the bootloader while still having the custom rom, I knew that my phone wouldn't go past the sony logo, because when I was installing the rom I chose bootloader unlocked so now I can't win either way. What should I do, still install emma?

OMFG, what were you trying to accomplish by those actions? Why relock bootloader? Only thing you had to do is to flash prefered FW via Flashtool.

ta backup has nothing to do with relocking bootloader
it is used to save some features of sony
relocking has not been made yet
and why would u want to relock?

To use SUS, you must have a locked bootloader. For those who have an unlocked bootloader, just wait until someone uploads an FTF. FTFs can be flashed on unlocked bootloaders using Flashtool by Androxyde.

You can easily relock the bootloader in just two steps.
Flash only the kernel via flashtool and then relock the bootloader also via flashtool.
You can't go wrong if you've used flashtool before.

The process is quite simple but do it at your own risk..
Turn on your computer's internet..
Open flashtool and select flashmode..
Select the firmware, then exclude everything but kernel (Remember only kernel should be selected, exclude everything)..
Uncheck every option in wipe..
Flash the mobile, it should take just 4-5 seconds..
Don't restart yet, disconnect your mobile..
Open BLU option in flashtool..
Connect your mobile, a dialog box will open, just click on relock..
(Remember, don't turn off the internet connection untill the bootloader is locked)
Restart your phone, it'll still be rooted and you'll be able to get all official updates..
Only thing you'll lose is the cwm recovery..
