New dinc for me ROMs? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought the dinc after my commando was smashed by a semi last week. I have a little experience with custom roms and this is my third android based phone. I received the phone yesterday and it will be rooted by me tomorrow. But I wanted to know what roms you guys find to be best also any tweaks that are useful. This phone a three years old and I know you guys have come up with some dos and don't so rather than reinventing the wheel I figured IDE use my first post to list what I'm looking for and see what you recommend.
Stability stability stability! I won't be changing every week once I find one I like that will be it. I can't devote the time to constantly update and tweak it plus this is my daily driver so I need it to work above all else.
Speed I know these guys don't have the fastest processors so if i have to choose between load speed and looking cool or cute animations I choose speed.
Battery life I'm running a 2800 mah slim battery but I spent that money because I don't want to charge it not to waste battery life.
Media I do use my phone extensively to play music, watch, movies, photos, photos, photos, anything that optimizes these features I'm all about trying out.
Also anything I should stay away from do to extensive bugs ect please let me know. I will read all I can about these roms as you suggest them and of course report how they do for me here as well as the phandriod.com site. Thanks in advance for all the knowledge I'm about to get hit with ill try not to ask too many stupid questions

Sense roms or aosp gingerbread like cm 7.2 are the most stable.

Sense roms or aosp gingerbread like cm 7.2 are the most stable.
Thanks tiny! There are soooo many of them which is good but are there any standouts? What are the major differences between the GB and the aosp? i know on my og evo the aosp roms seemed to save batt but that all i know and i don't really know that. I do like the miui icons tbh but I think I can use those with whatever rom but I like the minimalist if nature of the miui setup.
I have rooted three phones and installed custom roms on them but am really brand new to the android or smart phone game only been messing with droids for 3 months now. Idk just looking for info are there any seance or Gb roms you think I should stay away from.?

This is pretty much the only evo. What was good on that device is good here. Rom names are different. If you want a pure stock sense rom then I recommend cmlusco's rom. CM 7.2 is the best aosp gingerbread rom IMO.

Top ROMS!

I recently ROOT my EVO, so I want to know for those who has gone to varios ROMS what are the top 5 ROMS.
Me personally has ben looking for some Desire Z or Desire HD port, only for the Themes but don't know the names of the ROMS here, or or some Gingerbread ROMS but they are a lot of ROMS here, I;m comming from the HeroC...
Calkulin EVi0 2 best room (I just hate that animation color screen at boot) give me up to 12 hours of battery time.
im new too i just rooted my phone sunday i heard from some people that some roms and kernals are made for certain hardware. mines hardware 0004 is it true
thanks.
If you want to fall in love with your EVO all over again, I HIGHLY recommend MIUI. It is hands down the best looking and best performing ROM out there.

Nope, it's AOSP so no 4G or HDMI.
I think you will fall in love with the Azreal rom. I have been running it for over a month now with no issues at all. Good luck finding a rom that you will like.

The best rom for the evo right now is the mikfroyo 4.4 hands down. In terms of speed and customized features it is my favorite of all and mik is already working on
V 4.5 so for u its time to start flashing and enjoying your powerhouse that is the evo the way u suppose to. Happy flashing and have fun!
+1 in the mikfroyi 4.4. Makes me appreciate sense widgets.

Sorry, I meant Konikub's themes.
NEED TO TRY ROMS: DONT GO WITHOUT AT LEAST 3 HOURS ON THESE.
myn's warm twopointtwo: insane themeing. blows your mind and other parts (hehe). fast, stable, just very themed and very feature inclusive.
caulkin's evio 2: incredibly fast. this dude is amazing. you will find his 'usb/wifi tether hack, reboot mod, mms limit/compression mod's in almost every rom out there. slightly themed to not look as fugly as the htc version, very good battery, extreme speed, etc etc etc.
ava-froyo z3: this man is quite a coder. he goes deep inside the rom to alter things never touched by other devs, including radio, 4g, memory management, etc. its a hit and miss for some phones, but gets amazing results on others.
cyanogenmod: vanilla aosp, the biggest project on the xda. built on many different phones, huge team, incredible changes, its like a whole new phone. you wont get the same results or features from any other phone on the market. no hdmi (claims its almost done) and FINALLY 4G (in alpha 2 testing, the code for 4g had to be totally rewritten by two guys. thats probably the biggest feat in this phone's history)
miui: a crossover aosp rom that looks almost like the iphone but with the functionality and customizability of android +100. infinite amount of features. this isnt really built on anything... everything is different. a brand new operating system pretty much. worth a flash. some love it, some (like me) dont.
I am currently using this ROM [ROM(S)]CM7-EX.v9, its pretty neat, still has a few minor issues but it's usable and yeah its Gingerbread. No 4G or HDMI.

Well put. I will +1 you on the CyanogenMod. Great stable ROM with tons of customizability and features out of wazoo.
I would also put in a recomendation foe Fresh Evo ROM by Flipz. Maintains a familiar Sense UI but has some nice performance tweaks and removes all of the bloatware. Also has full HDMI and 4G support. Just another simple and user friendly option for custom ROM that does not get too radical.

I like all the responses here and how members try to help, especially the 8th grade kid, lol.
I for one won't flash a rom where any of the features of the phone won't work, despite the fact of the great work all of those guys are doing to bring gingerbread to us, I applaud all their hard work. Whatever rom u flash, make sure u do a full wipe so u can get a clean install, do a back up or nandroid before u start flashing and read, read, read and keep on reading, that's the most important thing, get acquainted with any issues or problems that may arise with the roms u gonna flash so u don't panick and go all monkey if the phone freezes or whatever the situation may be. Finally be ready for the storm, flashing is an addiction hard to control.

I know this has already been said but I just have to agree with Cyanogen. The stable build (6.1.2?) is incredibly nice with plenty to do. On the other hand, Cyanogen7 (i.e. nightlies) are a bit more finnicky (still a superb work in progress). I used the stable build until I had enough courage (newbie myself to android) to start trying the night builds. I really dont want to go back to anything else now, not even the stable. Getting excellent battery life (intermittent tho), great look, very customizable. Def worth a try, if anything
Depends on what you want our of your rom. I tried many, but heres my personal experience.
I went with miui for awhile. Loved the speed and uniqueness. In the end missed everything working perfect.
Went to azrael for awhile. Fastest sense rom in my opinion. Highly recommend if you like sense.
Since I don't like sense, but want stuff to be fully functional, I'm currently on vaelpak. Very fast, great on battery, and the vaelpak settings app makes it very easy to tune to your liking.

[Q] What do you use?

I could see how some people might think this would be a stupid thread to start, but being a rom noob and this being my first android phone i thought this would be helpful for others like me. I personally work from 6am-7pm and need my phone after work and can only really flash and play around with one rom a night if that. I think a lot of these rom's are based of other roms for other phones, like cm7 (correct me if i'm wrong). If people could just talk about previous experiences such as if you used Kingdom Rewind 3d for your Dinc1, CM7 on another phone or just you're general experiences with the roms that have come out so far and what you feel are the least glitchy, has the most features, best batery life etc.
This does not belong in the development section.

I ran CM7 on my Dinc. It was a stable fast ROM but it is like a blank canvas. You have to make it what you want it to be. If you like to have lots of options and don't need any of the Sense widgets I think it makes the most sense. It is almost absurdly configurable.
If you like the Sense widgets then I would wait and see if the Skyraider ROM is ported over. It seemed to be the most stable and fast of the modified Sense ROMS.
My .02 and I agree with cheifkeiff.

If you need reliability, I would highly recommend one of the debloated stock ROMs. These will have the stability of stock without the bloatware.
If reliability is not exactly a requirement but you like Sense, can't really recommend anything. I, personally, don't like Sense and have not tried any Sense based ROM.
If reliability is not so much an issue, and you can do without Sense, CM7 is actually quite stable and reliable. I say use this if reliability is not an issue because it has only community support should something not work right.
MIUI is a really different experience with customization brought to a whole new level. Its like what I would imagine iOS 5 to be like, plus all the awesome associated with Android. I use setCPU to throttle the CPU when the screen is off, and with medium use throughout the day I get about 14 hours out of the battery.

[Q] Best ICS rom?

Hey guys, im new to all this rooting and rom stuff, so sorry if this is really basic stuff.
I want to root and put a custom rom on my droid inc 2, and I think I understand how to root now.
Now, I'm trying to decide on a ROM to flash after i root. I absolutely hate sense, and think its really clunky. I've been looking at the ICS rom thread, and somewhere between pages 50 and 100 something, people start talking about CM 9 for the inc 2, and all these different developers different roms, and I was thinking, which one is the best?
So, here is what I would like to see in a ROM, to help you reccomend one for me.(listed in order of importance)
-Smoothness
-Good Battery Life.
-CRT Animation. (I know, a little silly, but i want it so badly)
-Ability to customize different aspects without flashing too many files/lots of terminal stuff. e.g. boot animation, status bar colors.
If you know a ROM that fufills most of these requirements of mine that is not ICS, please let me know. Thanks.
Until today,no best,no perfect ics for Inc2.
Many rom is alpha, and beta, even don't have complete drivers for ics.
Miui all the way friend, its very smooth and customization are incredible. No flashing to customize just download to go. I recommend looking at the lock screen page that alone is enough to try it out.

Seeing as this was about a year ago, I assume you found a rom by now. That being said, I will be flashing the IC Tazz rom (sense free version) on my wifes phone tonight. Very stable and everything works. The cm9 and 10 roms have problems with cameras and audio issues. All roms have quirks, but some have more and more severe than others.

Proud But surprised new gn owner

Hey All! Just got my gn a couple weeks ago and I love it! I must say though I'm a little surprised at how few roms there are out for it. I know it's new and all but still it HAS been out since last fall! Is this how long it normally takes to build a fan base with these phones? I'm not complaining. I just found it curious, coming from the Nexus S to owning the new Android flagship that there would still be such relatively little support by now. Any takers on the topic? I'd Be interested to hear your input!
Oh By the way, I'm in no way bashing the phone or this forum. I think both are outstanding. Just making conversation lol

Why do we need more roms? The current ones provide everything we need.
Same complaints about the epic touch, six months later there's a ridiculous amount of ROMs to flash.
it's better to have a few very good roms than a lot of roms that are not so good.
I just counted 25 ROMs in the dev section. Should our phones be walking to the store for us?
What more do you need??
Sent from the future.
Well take a look at the nexus s forum. there's a rom for everyone! One Can never have too much choice! And again it was just a question. No Need to get all defensive.
less roms equals the nest selection
I think the reason is that a couple of roms got such a headstart in users and features, the devs don't see a demand. Sometimes it seems like over half the GNex owners use aokp, myself included.
For me it's surprising to see so little in flashable mods. I'd love to try some roms, but they don't have a customizable lock screen or notification toggles. To me those are must haves, so I stick with aokp. Maybe when cyanogenmod finally goes stable, devs can use it as a base for great roms.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I can see what you mean. I also came from the Nexus S, and I did notice that there are a lot more ROMS for it. But it seems like there is no low quality roms for the Gnex. It really is a casse of quality over quantity. And we also have some groundbreaking roms here, such as paranoidandroid.
Quality v.s. quantity.
Are you looking for ROMs built from ASOP or ROMS that are just a klang of another with skins?
IMHO, ASOP or CM9 is all that a person needs. Then add what you want and ignore the rest.
I think as far as ROMS go we have hit a plateau. Until the next release (assuming there are new features) nearly everything is available over the ROMS we currently have. I can see a few kernels coming up with new ideas but I think ROMS are as up to speed as we can expect for a while

Gotta be careful what you say around here. I had opened up a similar thread where I was "complaining" about the Rom Support for the nexus and got flamed big time as effect.
Just watch out around here.. they don't like opinions
But coming from a sgs 2 I also was dissapointed to not find hundreds of different Roms for the nexus as there were for the galaxy s 2. Also every Rom on the nexus looks about the same and has about the same Features while for the galaxy they really differed.
I'm on bamf with bond Kernel and love them. But also waiting for an update from both since weeks....

wait till jelly bean comes out
we have less ROMs coz they're all based on ICS , nexus S has various gingerbread versions too, not to mention it's been there for quite some time. as someone already said, basically we have everything we need with the current ROMs, except ParanoidAndroid, the only new idea could be a port of sense or tw for example, but then there's the same problem with drivers, certain hardware not working and so on.. Some people think for instance, that buying HTC or Samsung devices will give them more options, sense/TW roms and aosp/miui , and it does sound good in theory , but the reality is that u will always end up with a buggy AOSP experience (there's always something that's not working right-been through many devices and it's the same story all over again).
As a conclusion, people should make a little research before getting a device, if u like what sense or TW (or any other custom UI) offers u , then u should consider that device, if u want a real AOSP experience then the nexus is ur best choice. Not to mention that if u have a fetish to change the way ur UI looks u can always get a 3rd party launcher, AOSP handles it best coz sense or TW occupy more RAM and running a market launcher on top of all this just makes it worse.
yeah a lot of you guys make sense. I guess with all the options on the nexus s I had become a bit of a crack flasher. I just enjoyed trying out new and different roms and playing with them. but as someone just said here earlier all the ones here are pretty much the same. I'm using aokp now and I like it. I just also like other stuff too lol
thanks for your opinions everyone! keep em coming! great reading
I agree. I miss my galaxy s2 i9100. That phone has the most development. I wanna give you a reason for more development... it was expensive but it was launched everywhere in the world. Second you can run 4 different (base) types of roms.
1) touchwiz gingerbread
2) cm7 aosp based gingerbread
3) touchwiz ICS
4) cm9 aosp based ics roms
So you can see how there are always roms to flash. I loved flashing early builds as well. So I encourage more devs to build different and unique roms rather than taking features from other roms. Thanks
Sent from Galaxy Nexus
Consider it a blessing. Towards the dying days of the SE X10, most of the renowned devs had moved on and then we had a million different variations of every kind of rom you could think of. We had heaps of MIUI roms which were all identical but with a different theme. Same story with Cyanogen roms.
There's really no need to have a plethora of roms because they all end up being the same. Its better to have a selection of high quality roms to pick from.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
in my experience most of the roms available are just variations of stock **** by some kid who learned to deodex and root. because what the world really needs is another ****ty rom based on sense.
there are no GB roms, no roms based on some vendor-ruined stock build. just AOSP. there are few bugs, just awesome features. you don't need a ton of roms when you have that.

[Q] Should I Install CM 10?

I am a long time Android and long time CM user. I have been using an LG G2x for way too long and finally got fed up with it. I have a brand new Galaxy S3 arriving tomorrow and am trying to figure out what to do when I get it.
For those of you have have used both the stock OS and CM 10, what are the advantages of each? By rooting and installing CM 10, what stock Samsung features will I lose? Are there any you think I might actually miss? So just in general, I was hoping someone who used both the stock OS and CM 10 for a decent amount of time could explain to me exactly what I will gain/lose by rooting and installing CM 10 on this phone. Thanks!
Not a good thread at all to start up man, just try them out and see for your self. Every one likes different things so it's kind of hard for us to just assume your needs... you know what I mean? Lots like both for different reasons, some always revert back to a stock rom some always go back to a cm rom.

Leave it stock but rooted for the first few days to see what you think. Many think the extra features and that its stable and fast are worth staying stock based. Still a lot of others opt for cm or aokp regardless. Just give em both their fsir chance!

That is why I didn't ask if I should flash CM 10 or not. I very simply asked what the differences were between stock and CM 10. I am wondering what features I will have with stock that I will lose with CM 10 and vice versa. That is a very fair question to ask of people who have already used both. I am trying to avoid trying both by going through a hassle and having to reinstall my programs and reconfigure my settings multiple times if I don't have to.
You lose all samsung stock features. That should be a no brainer. No motion activities, no smart stay (natively) no touchwiz, no wifi calling. Vanilla stock is what it always is, clean, no bloat, and super fast... what I said wasnt in any way being rude. It was exteremly truthful, and to the point.

Wifi calling doesn't work on CM 10? I have been using it on CM 7 for my G2x.
So do you miss any of those Samsung features? I guess are they gimmicky or actually nice to have? From reviews, I have read that stock is really fast, so not sure if I gain speed by going to CM. Have you noticed speed improvements with CM 10 over stock?
I know but its so deeply integrated into framework and settings now its a pain. And no I personally don't miss those gimmicky features, but allot of people do. I stick to tw roms, because of battery. It always seems to last longer on stock based roms for me. Otherwise I prefer cm based roms. Lets just say I'll be moving to cm as soon as I feel it is closer to 100% in my eyes. Or the nexus 4 lol. And the only way I can feel it being 100% is by me testing it, not asking others. That's what I meant with my 1st post.

I have to agree with mt3g here. AOSP ROMs are not the same as TW ROMs. I used TW for awhile when I first got my SGS3 and flashed pretty much all of them out there. I wasn't concerned with battery use, as I consider myself a battery expert. I was more interested in performance and features that were exclusive to TW and AOSP. They are so different that the only way to really get to know each other is to test drive them yourself.
Now I am on LiquidSmooth (AOSP base) and I love it. I am getting massive battery life, have tethering (I thethered my tablet to is almost all day yesterday after a bad flash [on the tablet not the phone]), Theme chooser springs a bit of life back into the eyecandy part. <--sometimes people flash not bc they want a new ROM but a new look .
Will I go back to TW? Sure. I tested Doc's ROM before he released it and I like it plenty enough to run it as a daily driver. But this is XDA and what are here for?
What do we want? A custom ROM
When do we want it? NO ETAs!!!! :cyclops:

Very well said. :good:
I personally never ever ran a touchwiz or sense ROMs on any device I've ever owned for more than a day. I just missed the full control cm ROMs give. Ever since my HD2 I've ran cm7 up to cm10 on my s3. I really never notice the features being lost from a tw ROM mostly because I don't use them. Never really thought their "advertised" features were all that.

I am running on a CM10 based rom and the only stock Samsung feature I miss is the Smart Stay. Everything else was just too gimmicky
Pretty sure there is an app for most of the samsung features.

I stuck to stock ICS TW for a couple of days and I didn't enjoy it.
It just seemed too much and I wanted a closer to stock experience.
Made the switch to CM10. Greatest thing ever.
It's simple, effective, and works in pretty much every way that I would like.
The only thing that I miss from TW is the Messaging app.

Thanks!

Do you use Skype, Vox, or any other VOIP app? If you do, then don't flash CM10, AOKP or any other AOSP based rom.

May I know why? I'm right now with the Galaxy SI and on CM10, hoping to get the S3 and on the same dilemma. Right now my Skype works well on the CM10, Viber works only on speaker phone.
Having tried cm 10/aokp as well as TW ROMs for extended periods of time, I can say the following:
Although at first missing a certain TW feature might seem like a drawback- the feeling comes from what you're used to, and after a few days or week you will likely forget those features which you previously had which you thought were so important. For me the TW calendar (s Planner) was the big thing I was missing- since for a while I really couldn't find a good substitute which looked as good and performed as well! Finally I found one, so now I don't even compare anymore, but even if I hadn't found a substitute I'm sure I would have moved on at some point.
Point is, base your choice on the majority of the benefits that you'll get from the respective ROM. Personally, I like aokp/cm10 precisely because of its overall simplistic aesthetic ( I'm in love with the native jelly bean fonts used in the notification bar) and its native ability to theme. In terms of performance and extra tweaks, there are plenty of custom TW ROMs which are on par with the aosp ones (IMO). So I think it comes down to the overall feel/look, and pure personal preference.

you will lose wifi calling, you will lose the ability to upload music straight from the music player to drop box, you will lose your mind, however, once you run a JB ROM and use google now for the first time, and you will go ape over the amount of customization available to cm10 users.
honestly, used "stock" for about 3 weeks when i first got my device back in july, flashed cm10, and never looked back. words cannot describe how amazing and feature-packed a cm10 ROM is...
flash hellfire 1.3 (if you don't mind the red), and give slim bean a shot if you don't want the red. I have had nothing but positive results with those two.
also, follow my guide in this section for the flashing process.
good luck.
WiFi calling
For me WiFi calling is the biggest feature, and extremely important. I don't have T-Mobile signal in my lab, where I spend most of the time and WiFi calling is the only hope. This is why I'm staying with the stock for now.
But if anyone can show me a way to get WiFi calling on CM10, I will be really thankful. Hate the stock rom from the bottom of my heart!!
-Thanks
The camera on cm10 is whats holding me back but once they come out with cm10.1 based on JB 4.2 then i think ill root and rom my phone.
