Possible ZL supports Wireless Charging? - Sony Xperia ZL

So, i was messing around with my ZL and i put it up on my palm wireless charging puck to see if it would rest on it, how surprised i was when the phone was drawn TO the puck. It is magnetically pulled to the puck. This has me thinking, could the ZL support wireless charging? I don't know why else it would have such magnets in it(assuming thats what his is). I could not find any disassembly info on the ZL to confirm/deny this possibility.
Does anyone have a QI charging pad they could test with the ZL? Or disassembly info on the device? Assuming that there are magnets in there they have to be there for a reason...

I picked up my ZL today and tried it with my LG Qi charging pad.
No luck.
But it did have the same attraction as what you noticed with your Palm puck.

Maybe a wireless receiver patch like the one below will be useful. But i do not know if there are any for the Xperia Z or ZL.
Whoever who find it please post here. Thanks
Please search for brando-wireless-power-bank-4800mah-review at the the-gadgeteer.com
BTW does anyone know which wireless standard is going to be the defacto industrial standard ?
It looks like SONY will support the Qi standard with their new models of phones from 2014

Qi Wireless charging

Im not sure if there's been a new development on this or not but I didnt get find anything.
These Qi Receivers like:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Qi-Wire...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item4ac6c3197e
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qi-Wireless...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item1c3375487b
The qi wireless charging mod seems a little too complicated. Now that we have these receivers has anyone tried fitting one to the S2?
I know they arent made for it and there are special connect points in teh S3 S4 and the such but cant an end be splayed open and put in between the 1st and 4th connectors where the battery makes contact with the phone? It would be a little difficult to force fit it but it would be snug and not likely to move and fits over the battery well. Has anyone tried any of this?

Qi Wireless Charging
Hi, I just bought a Qi Wireless charger & Charging Cover and its pretty cool! I bought it from the Bitmore UK site.
They have a wide range of Qi (wireless charging) Devices and the one I bought for my S3 is universal. You can charge any qi enabled devices on this pad.
Just search for: BITMORE Qi Charger

Did anyone already come across a suitable QI receiver pad for the G?

The battery isn't removable, so it isn't really possible.
I have a MotoG, and upon taking off the back cover, I can't seem to locate the pins normally used with Qi pads like on the Samsungs. So, I may be completely wrong, but as of right now, I think the G will not support wireless charging.
I suppose those could work http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Q...l_Phone_PDA_Chargers&var=&hash=item3cd871bdf7 but they are a bit besides the point if microusb then cannot be used...
I've ordered one of those Universal Pads and some other stuff from DealExtreme a week ago. I will report back with pictures when it arrives here. The parcel however is still in China and I don't think it will clear german customs until after christmas.

I'm very interested to hear if this works. I haven't been able to find any reviews for those Qi charging coil inserts, either. Have you heard of it working on the Moto G or other phones?
Motorola would have advertised it as having wireless charging if they put it in. This was one of the features they left out to cut the price

I'm asking about those aftermarket coil inserts that supposedly provide Qi charging by plugging into the micro USB and going between the battery cover or a case.

I think you will find the clearances to be too too tight for that. I think the best bet will be if someone integrates it into a shell or case.

[How-To] Moto G wireless charging (Universal Qi Receiver)

I've received my universal Qi wireless receiver today. The receiver is smaller than I had thought and fits perfectly into the Moto G. Since our phone lacks internal preparation for Qi (like it can be found on the Samsung Note 2), the connection is made via a micro USB plug. The backdoor can still be clipped on without being disturbed by the Qi receiver pad or its flat band cable. Charging time should be about the about the same as charging the phone from a PC USB port that doesn't output more than 500mA.
This solution is obviously for those who don't need the phones usb port on a daily basis.
The adapter on the left picture (and in the video) is from ebay and is the one that arrived here first. I’ve changed the cable routing to remove the ugly bulge that was visible on my first picture. This adapter outputs a maximum of 500mA and can be purchased from ebay.
Make sure to purchase the "interface layout A, narrow interface up” variant.

17.Jan.2014 - The picture on the right shows an adapter purchased from DealExtreme, that arrived here yesterday. This adapter delivers up to 650mA and the flat band cable comes out of the lower side instead out of the backside which removes the need to bent over the cable.

Both adapters work well, so don't worry if you've already bought the one I've first reviewed. (I have both version in use on different phones)
Here is a small video that shows me placing the receiver inside the Moto G:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2WPjw-WaCI
Update 13.02.2014
From my testing I can tell the following:
1. An unrooted Moto G needs to be screen locked (I use the pattern lock type) or it will refuse to charge due to the missing pins. You can unlock the screen while it is charging as long as you don't lift it from the qi charger. (tested on 4.3 and 4.4.2, DE and FR firmware)
2. Root in combination with dubidu's tool makes it more straightforward but is not required.

Should you wish to buy an adapter for your Moto G, make sure to get the "narrow-interface up" variant

Nice. Can you tell us where you got it from -- is it just one manufacturer making these?
Cheers.

Thanks. I had looked on fleaBay and it looks like they all have the same packaging. I imagine any qi wireless charger thingy should work. In theory.
anyone know if this would work through an otterbox case? or I guess if this would even work with one due to the fact the part that plugs in sticks out a little bit...
I've bought it here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261348107126
The auction uses the same pictures as used in the amazon offer posted by JCBomb, might even be the same seller.
This is cool! I just hope there's like another way we can integrate that wireless charger.
Just saw your post at android.hilfe and started looking for some charger, it's indeed a neat solution.

Are u guys using this wireless QI receiver? I'm going to buy one next month, D: . Just for curiosity, how much time do u guys spend to get a full charge with the QI
Guys i found this one at dx.com
http://dx.com/pt/p/micro-usb-qi-wireless-charging-back-clip-black-253066
Those kind of product are not so great are chaging, basically it's almost the same power that if you charge through uSB = 500mA.
What you need to check is the charging value, sometime it's :
- 400mA or less (avoid it, will take ages to charge),
- 500mA (just like your regular USB charger),
- 1000mA (great ones, will charge just like a wall charger, twice as fast as the previous model).
So the one at DX is great, but they're cheaper on ebay, plus you can choose between Black or White - http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...eName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
This one was the cheapest (around £15) I could find and works fine.

impressive
wow, so cool :good:
Am I the only one thinking about finding the plug they use with all the pins intact and integrating a micro sd card into it for OTG storage? Wireless charging and storage, all in one, and fitting under a case.
I had that exact thought about two hours ago. Throw NFC in their while your at it.
Sent from my XT1034 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I had actually started to do some verrrry preliminary research into something like it using a ribbon cable and another usb port, so you could plug the phone into a wall charger and have the usb/sd card piggybacked off the cable. Hadn't gotten very far though...job, kid, wife etc.......
Someone TAKE MY MONEY for it!! Especially since it seems we're all soon to be headed down the 'no sd card' path.
I just got a Moto G for my wife and Nokia Wireless Charging Plate DT900 is not working any ideas why ?
It's not working with one of the universal QI receivers? Have you try enabling the floating charging (see my post)

Hello.
The Moto G doesn't support Qi on its own, you'll need to rig it with an universal wireless Qi charging receiver.
You can buy them from ebay, dealextreme and some other china based stores. The first post contains a short installation video.
This one from dealextreme will work (Output up to 650mA):

[Q] Smallest QI wireless charging receiver?

Whats the smallest QI wireless charging receiver (the foil) folk have come across?
I need one that's 40mmx40mm or less. Most seem to about 37x62.
Anyone got some old/duff ones they could cut and see if the excess padding material can be removed without jeopardising the coil/operation......?
I want to make my Omate TS wireless chargeable.
As far as I know, their sizes are standard and open. You should go check the official Qi site.

Thanks, but the Wireless Power Consortium is just the owner of the Standards - its up to the manufacturers' to build. Many of the cheap Asian suppliers are probably not certified anyway.
Although I can trawl through, e.g, Amazon, Ive not yet found the right size, and expect it might be more specialised.

I'd like the thin one than the small one( I'm sure I will lose it someday), I think most QI receiver are standard you can try LuguLake wireless Qi
receiver, It's thin enough that you can put on your case.
LuguLake wireless Qi is a transmitter (charger) not a receiver. the receiver coil is inside the phone and it looks like a small, thin patch. You'll only see it if you bought it for a Galaxy or something similar. You can find quite a lot of them on eBay for 5-7 $.
Regarding the transmitter coil, I've read the standard and there are some 2-3 specified sizes. Anything bigger or smaller would make things not work correctly. Even more, I've seen at least 3 kinds or chargers and their coils were about the same.
The TrueSmart is about 45 x 45 mm. At that external size, I don't see the inside as having enough space for a Qi coil. On top of that you'd need some charging circuit. Don't forget that Qi standard specifies communication between the charger and the phone (which I've captured on oscilloscope too).
I'm not trying to discourage you, I'm just stating some facts.

Daniel - thanks for your comments - hopefully they will help others understand; I should have stated more info first:
I'm fully conversant with QI technology, I know the difference between charger (transmitter) and receiver.
I have a charger; its currently wirelessly charging my OnePlus One.
The size of my TS is indeed 45mm, and I know the general size of commercial receivers is bigger than this.
Hence reaching out to the community if anyone has access to something smaller!

hi @CPGOD - did you ever find a smaller Qi receiver coil for purchase? I'm looking for one myself actually. The smallest I've found is this: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1901
Which is small, but not small enough. I need one that's not much bigger than 35x35mm square at most. The smallest I've seen in a product is the round one in the bottom of the Moto 360 smartwatch, but I think they had that made custom.
I know this is an old tread, but did anyone find one?
Found round 10mm X 1mm thick.

Check this site out lots of options if you just search "wurth". You will still need a charging circuit to adapt coil to device, but you should have some room to spare now.

Travel Dock for 360?

So I realize that the 360 is compatible with most qi chargers, which is pretty freaking cool. But, I put a pebble steel band on my 360 so laying it flat to charge isn't a option. It charges great in the original dock, so that's not a issue. I want to keep one at the house but have a practical solution when I'm on the road. Has anyone found where I can buy a second OEM dock. Or, anyone have a Qi aftermarket solution ( maybe something 3d printed or DIY ) that can be easily thrown into a travel bag? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated - thanks in advance.
