[HOWTO][TAR][OUDHS] THE ODIN THREAD :: Return to stock, fix soft brick :: 5/7/13 MDL - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

k0nane and the OUD Hit Squad present...
Odin: Return to Stock, fix soft brick
Sponsored by k0nane.info. Have you tipped your devs today?
DO NOT CHECK REPARTITION! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Why the big red warning? Far too many people have broken their devices by not following these instructions! Search the forums, or drop by IRC - you'll see plenty of examples from all kinds of devices.
These instructions should fix your soft-bricked or broken phone as long as you can get it into download mode. Make sure you have drivers already installed on your Windows computer before starting. Please read them all the way through and then begin.
Linux and Mac users, Heimdall will work, but is beyond the scope of this tutorial. You probably know how to use it anyway.
Note: the indicators in Download Mode will read "custom" even after flashing this TAR. As there are no official TARs yet available, there's not much to be done. EDIT: Official TARs are now available, and may change this. YMMV.
Code:
#include <external/cyanogenmod/std_disclaimer.h>
/*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
Instructions
Download Odin 3.07 - see section below.
Download the stock TAR for your device - see section below.
Extract the contents of odin-307.zip and the 7zip/zip archive. If the latter contains SS_DL.dll, put it in your Odin folder. Do not try to extract files from the .tar.md5.
Run Odin 3.07.exe, and prepare Odin:
Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
Click PDA and select the TAR you downloaded. Leave other fields empty.
Don't panic. Odin will freeze while it checks the MD5 signature of the TAR. This is normal.
Put your device into Download Mode:
Power down fully and disconnect the USB cable.
Hold Volume Down + Power.
You should now be at Download Mode. Connect your device and wait for it to be recognized.
Make sure Odin looks similar to the following:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Click Start in Odin.
Wait! When complete, Odin should appear like the following:
That's it! Your device will autoreboot, and your phone should be working properly again. Be sure to wipe data in recovery (boot to it with Vol Up+Power) after completing this process if you have further issues.

nice buddy. very nice

Great tool to have for recovery. Thanks!

Folks, if you get an MD5 error, it may be the filename. I'll be reuploading the files. They do work; you can rename and take off the .md5, or name them test-final.tar.md5.

thanks for your work on this :good::highfive:

Be patient, I'm uploading a new copy.
e: Reuploads are complete to both mirrors. There is no need to rename files. The TAR as named will pass the MD5 check if you have received a complete download.

for some reason, when i click on PDA.. and go to the folder of the file, it is not showing up to allow me to select it...... but it shows in the folder on my computer, just not in odin

That's because you didn't follow the instructions and extract the TAR from the 7z. You need 7-Zip, WinRAR, or others to do so.

ok thank you for clarifying that... I am working on a google wallet fix right now, and i am almost there... just, i borked NFC and i didnt backup my old NFC files.. soo looks like im gonna restore back to stock and start over.... sucks because i coulda easily just reflashed a rom to fix my issue, just there are no roms to flash at the current time lol

It's trivial to restore needed files via ADB. Dumps are posted in this forum, as I noted previously.

[ROM][SPRINT][CDMA][12.03.2011] - etvROM - based on EF17, CM7, and others

Features/Info:
- Gingerbread
- Debloated and snappy
- Clockworkmod recovery
- Rooted
- Touchwiz
- Latest Superuser, Terminal Emulator
- Infrastructure mode WIFI tether (use Galaxy S or Epic 4G profile)
- Ad-hoc wifi connectivity
- Email, SMS, and other apps from Mainline CM7
- Everything works, designed to be a daily driver
- Other small improvements
Instructions:
- Direct download here: www.evanvaughan.com/filesvc.aspx?fileid=F91F7142F7FB4E4B (MD5 checksum: 17bd976c28226adebf17b0a2df00f29a)
- Flash with Heimdall (included in zip). If you're coming from an earlier version of etvROM you can flash only the factoryfs component. This will keep your apps and settings intact.
- If you did a full flash and not just factoryfs: When flash is complete, Tab will reboot into recovery. You need to wipe data/cache, and reboot. If you only flashed factoryfs, Tab will reboot and you'll be ready to roll.
DISCLAIMER: I did not write any code for this ROM. It's sourced from EB17, CM7 Mainline, and other places. All I did was put everything together into a Heimdall flashable package because there were no ROMS out there for the Tab that had what I wanted. I don't deserve any credit for this; it's mostly the work of other people.

I'll try to get some up tomorrow. I didn't really modify the appearance much (yet) so visually everything resembles a stock EF17 build except for the several AOSP style apps pulled in from CM7.
If anyone flashes this let me know, I tested it pretty thoroughly but am curious to see how it works for others.
uh oh...the Sprint ROMS are coming out the woodwork!!!!!!!!!!!! wh0o0o0o
Downloading and flashing. Currently im using the initial contact rom. Will compare and contrast momentarily =)
Thanks!

not to be mean or anything, but i sort of had this problem with the initial contact rom.
I dont see any differences... I tried flashing twice. Wipe data/cache/ reboot.(actually 3x - just for good measure) it had a cool anti sprint boot logo...but other than that, it was the same ol same ol.
yes it is snappy and rooted, but i got the same effect after converting to EXT4.
you said that you have elements of different stuff (ie CM7). I didn't see anything CM7 in particular. Am i doing something wrong?
thanks again!

If you have a different boot animation it probably flashed fine. Also the build number in About should be EVAN.GB.V6. And if you open Email or MMS it should be an AOSP-style app (taken from CM7) rather than the clunky apps included from the vendor. Also, you should be able to boot into Clockworkmod recovery and the wallpaper should have been different. If you have all this stuff I would say the flash went fine. Like I said, I didn't do any work as far as theming goes. My goal with this package was to get something out there that's flashable, functional, and lightweight. This is just a start that I can build on as I learn more.
Sweet deal, grats on your steps to becoming a full fledged dev!

Boot.bin doesn't need to be flashed. Just plug in the included 6 files and leave the remaining fields blank. Did you install the driver with the Heimdall driver utility?
The next release I will make a TAR or CWM-flashable package. I tried to make a TAR for this release but Odin didn't like it. I must have done something wrong.

Ah ok. For some reason it wouldn't initiate until I plugged something in to the boot field.
I soft bricked because of my inexperience. Got the death screen.
Odin saved the day though.

[UI] GN Fastboot Flasher[v1.5.0][27/7]

I'm proud to present you the GN Fastboot Flasher (GNFF)
I love the simplicity and the convenience of Odin, but it's close source and also there a few files to flash with Odin. So I decided to create an Odin-like app, but for using with fastboot.
Remember that this app is in Beta stage may not be a complete and safe way of flashing. By using this software, you accept its danger.
This app only works on Windows. I have no plan to distribute it to Linux/Mac. The reason is clear, I know nothing from coding on Linux/Mac .Also I'm sure there are lots of work to do in the windows version.
GNFF Functions:
Flashing boot.img, zImage, zip file containing zImage
Flashing radio, bootloader, recovery, system
Flashing stock image files (.tgz)
Flashing stock image files automatically by downloading from Google servers
To do:
Add other options, like unlocking bootloader - Done
Make logging better and complete - Done
Add other languages
Bugs:
You say!
Changelog:
Version 1.5.0:
Fixed image downloading problem.
Added ability to update the program(Wait till the next version).
Added a part named "Addons".
Added ability to unlock/lock the bootloader.
Added Console to execute commands using adb and fastboot.
Some aesthetic changes.
Added support for JB ROMs.
Now you can inter "Custom" for your current ROM, and GNFF will download and install the latest official ROM.
Added a button to clear the log.
New icon.
Added abiliy to use drag & drop for flashing files.
Adding ability to use "open with..." for flashing files
Version 1.0.2:
Added an option to download and flash stock images from Google servers
Added an option to reboot to bootloader
Fixed the bug that was causing the log part don't be scrollable
Now GNFF doesn't let stop the flashing progress using repressing "Start" button
Version 1.0.1:
Added bootloader control, now it doesn't flash anything on devices with locked bootloader.
Added zImage control, now it gives an error in the log section when the zip file doesn't contain a zImage.
Added some more log informations.
Version 1.0.0:
Initial version
Sources:
To be honest, I'm not pro in using Git and publishing open source apps. Anyway I pushed them to github. You can compile them using AMS.

Super cool idea. So we can use this app to install latest stock images from Google. Could we install also Cwm images ( is this the recovery part)?

Yes.
That option is for flashing recovery image files.
I think the potential for this app is really great. It could be used for senarios like:
1) Unlock bootloader
2) update image
3) install an image with root

is there already an option to show the Gnex's current version of bootloader / firmware / baseband etc etc?
By the way nice work there.
this app is great but how to use it ?
i tried many time but the app said my phone wasn't connected,
but it shown connected in android.
please release the tutorial mate.

Have you installed adb drivers ? If not that's the issue . Boot in to bootloader ( power off the device - press volume up + down + power button ) then it'll ask for adb drivers . You can find the gnex adb drivers from googling .
After installing drivers , you are good to go .
.. Beamed Directly Via GNEX ..
file is no longer available...

[JB] - [ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-D710 FJ10 (FJ10 Kernel/ROM)

First off, a huge thanks to sextape for this JB FJ10 leak!
Second, a huge thanks goes to Garwynn for helping me compile all of these one-clicks! It's a lot of work to do all of them and it would take MUCH longer without him.
Thanks also goes to sfhub (for teaching me how to create Odin One-Click.exe files and creating the original thread I'm using as a template for this one), Agat63 (for helping me get the hang of what sfhub started teaching me), chris41g (for hosting all my work here and with the Modem and Kernel Repositories), and to everyone else in our community who makes this possible!
This JB build is a VERY early Alpha engineering build and is not meant to be used as a daily driver. There is no Modem included in the TAR.
Currently there are several features that do not work (including 3G) but at least we know that Samsung is working on a JB build for us!
There will not be a one-click.exe for this JB build. It can only be flashed in Odin. If flashing this be sure to put the included CSC file in the CSC slot in Odin. If you don't the flash will most likely fail.
Instructions
1) Backup your phone with a Nandroid and TB (or other backup app).
Your phone will lose ALL data during the flash process. It is highly recommended to store your backup on a removed SDcard or on a PC.
2) Install Samsung USB/Android drivers (if not already installed). [USB/Android]
3) Download the FJ10 Stock JB ROM.
FJ10-Unencrypted.7z (Resets all data)
4) Unzip the TAR and CSC files using 7zip (this package is a self-extracting exe you should just be able to double-click on it after download and it will do the rest).
5) Start Odin.
Select PDA and Navigate to the location where the FJ10 TAR was saved upon extract from the 7Zip archive.
Select CSC and Navigate to the location where the FJ10 CSC file was saved upon extract from the 7Zip archive.
6) Place phone in Download Mode.
Power down phone.
Wait for capacitative button lights to turn off.
Simultaneously Press and Hold [Power]+[Volume Down] until confirmation screen appears.
Press [Volume Up] to enter Download mode.
7) Connect USB cable to PC and phone.
Wait for Odin to recognize the phone.
8) Start Odin flash process.
Press [Start].
9) Complete - PASS!
Status should change to green PASS! At this point your phone should automatically reboot.
The boot process will take slightly longer than usual during which time you'll see the Sprint 4G logo screen.
Congratulations you're on FJ10!

This is a port of the International GS2 so its mostly working, just missing a few things. The biggest thing now is that it wipes all your NV and EFS data, effectively disabling 3G and a few other Sprint features.

Re: [GUIDE] SU640 Rooting and CWM Recovery
I don't know if there's one, have you tried searching on other sites? I think there's a method where you will have to flash baseband.img in order to install roms for p93x. I didn't try, I'm happy with miui. and I'm not sure about the method.
well thanks! i will search that. thanks for help

Ate you sure that the rom you installed is for su640?. Installing ROMs for p93x is incompatible with our device. Make sure that the developer of the rom states that its compatible for su640.

Thanks for the guide but i have a problem.
I cant install CWM recovery. Tried it two times but to no avail. The tutorial states that CWm is installed adn then it doesnt boot into CWM.
The device rooted succesfully though.
Any solution?
Vol down + power button doesnt take you to recovery? Have you tried rebooter?
In case cwm is not installed try it once again. If it has the same result try the OLD METHOD.

it simply means that your mobile is not rooted properly.thats why mobile not rebooting to cwm.
kindly root the mobile properly.if it again gives error , tell me
Attach a picture of the rooting guide after that it takes five minutes until the tutorial states that it is booting into CWM which it doesnt. I tried using rebooter to boot into CWM but using that i stumble upon a dead android with a exclamation mark over its stomach after the phone shuts down and tries to reboot into CWM.
Any solution?. And i updated my phone thorough LG software for the jellybean update.
Hi Guys, I'm currently on Custom PACROM and I'd like to try this Rom. Do I need to Flash this through LG Flash software? or I can just flash this through recovery?

[CWM Flashable] Does not work, modem and non-hlos.

Its not possible to flash these files thru cwm, yet... Thanks to all those who tried to help.
Click here for MDL Modem Odin Flashable thanks to @mrvirginia.
These are untested so I don't know if they work. If you're brave enough and don't mind odin flashing back to stock in case something goes wrong, here they are. * I am not responsible for anything that may occur other than the desired effect. *
The partitions are correct. modem.bin goes to the "mdm" partition ("/dev/block/mmcblk0p2") and NON-HLOS.bin > "apnhlos" ("/dev/block/mmcblk0p1"). According to GS4.pit (I believe) these are where the files go.
MK2_MODEM_signed.zip = modem.bin
MD5: FBFCF18A1A9F5C64F7EED6EF328D5680
MK2_WIFI_FIX_signed.zip = NON-HLOS.bin
MD5: 9D967E0B22AB14CCF58E7E18713B7C8C
Flash thru custom recovery. Let us know how it goes.

Tried to flash but still showing MDL. Check my build.prop to make sure it said jfltetmo hoping there was a check at the install.. any ideas? Running latesthyperdrive
If I wouldn't have flashed them via odin later i would have given this a try...... This deff makes people life easier

did it error out or did it complete the flash?
Currently it uses package_extract to a /tmp dir then extracts the bin to the proper partition. Anyone expireced enough to know if its ok to "write_raw" to the partition like with a kernel?
Code:
assert(package_extract_file("Omnifarious/modem.bin", "/tmp/modem.bin"),
write_raw_image("/tmp/modem.bin", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2"),
delete("/tmp/modem.bin"));
and
Code:
assert(package_extract_file("Omnifarious/NON-HLOS.bin", "/tmp/NON-HLOS.bin"),
write_raw_image("/tmp/NON-HLOS.bin", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p1"),
delete("/tmp/NON-HLOS.bin"));
Can I change it to:
Code:
assert(write_raw_image("Omnifarious/modem.bin", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p2"));
I flashed in twrp. Said it flashed successful but baseband didn't change.

Try wiping dalvik & cache after flash & before reboot. Might work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47872068&postcount=111
He says it's not possible.
I will try with write_raw_image instead of extracting to a /tmp folder.
NEW FILES UPLOADED to test "write_raw_image"
(I'm still waiting for the odin image to finish dling. Hotfile is so slow for me...)

Thanks for your effort. I'll pull the files. The 2 bin files listed a few posts back were the ones I used. You can flash those thru odin/mobile odin.
i was able to get them to flash and update successfully by just pasting both .bin files into Odin.
i did NON-HLOS.bin first. leave auto reboot unticked. when it finishes, hold power so your device turns off. boot back into download mode. now flash modem.bin with auto reboot ticked. that worked for me.

I've been having the same issue on the latest [TW-ROM-MultiDpi][23.11.2013] X-NOTE build 2.0 Freedom Ed. I9505 MK8 android 4.3. Everything was fine till I flash both files. Data doesn't drop, but voice doesn't work. My wifi was fine however.

Seems like a bootloader check to me.. And about installing via CWM, youre prolly gonna have to use busybox and dd.
