[Q] Screen not responding to Touch - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey! I went to the gym today and as usual had my phone on my waist to listen to music, now though the screen wont respond to any touch. I have the phone sitting in rice right now. Is my digitizer done? or do you think the rice will fix it?

Did you get water in it?
Only reason to have it in rice is if you got water in it.
Did you try rebooting?
Or just pulling battery?

I think sweat may have got into it, thats the only explanation I can think of, I have tried literally everything

...this may or may not be a silly question, have you tried going into recovery?? Just hoping that if your recovery works, it may be a simple issue

hmm. Have you recently done any updates, nightlies, or software changes of anykind before this happened?
Sometimes changes in software take a while to come into effect.
If not, at this point it would hurt doing a factory reset to see if it helps
If your digitizer is gone, you will know for sure at that point.
Just to add, you can navigate in CWM touch with the volume keys and power key..
might not be a bad idea to try a clean flash and/or factory reset..

I just used odin to go back to stock an still no luck, guess its time to call samsung

Factory reset with Syndicate ROM

EDIT: Okay, now I have a much bigger problem. I dropped my phone a few minutes ago and the floor totally raped the screen. I now can't see anything I'm doing on there, and I know for a fact that if I bring it to a sprint store to replace it or something, the second they find out it's rooted they'll tell me to gtfo. PLEASE can someone tell me what I can do? Disregard the rest of the post.
I've been having a crap load of force close problems from nearly all of my apps. I resolved to just factory reset my phone, but I need to check here first.
If I factory reset my phone running syndicate, will it mess up my phone? If so, how can I go about doing it without messing up the phone or how do I fix the problem (if any of you know).
And please, no flamers.

Lol dude I'm so sorry about the floor rapping your screen, I'm going to favorite this because of that(x
Anyway on to a more serious note, some stores dont care whether your rooted, but wit that bein said is better to b safe then sorry if you dont care about loosing data then pull the battery wait a little bit and get into donload mode then odin, stock ec05. Now if you do it might be tricky, but pull your bttery an then put it in and get into recovery and try to backup your data using pictures of the menu to guide you. This is all assuming your screen is the only broken part an evrything else works

I can't see any of my screen. There isn't just a crack in the screen, the only part of it I can even see is a VERY small part in the bottom right corner. Is there anything I can do that doesn't require me to see or do anything on the screen?
I'd use one of those java apps to view the screen on my computer, but USB debugging is conveniently off right now.

I went to the store yesterday and the guy said I gotta do it online, so from what I know, I go through the process, they send me a refurbished one, and then I send them mine. At that point would my phone being rooted even matter? I mean I couldn't see them being like "WHOA WHOA WHOA, your phone was rooted when we got it here, send your new one back or we'll sue you."

[Q] Bricked my phone

My phone bricked trying to flash a new rom. My screen doesnt light nor will it go into download mode. Only the blue led lights up. Anyone know if the jig will bring it back to life?

The point of a USB jig is to save your phone after a hard brick.

You really don't know anything at all do you?
A jigg will only save you if download mode is accessible, when flashing anything ICS incorrectly or using CWM touch you could easily destroy your partition, this means no more boot, no more odin no nada. The emmc chip is a gonner except with j-tag. If you don't know anything, you shouldn't speak, a usb jigg is for soft brick, not hard brick hence the terminology soft brick (repairable) hard brick (unrepairable) read my thread before your screw yourself too. if you don't believe me just try it, and then test your lil fancy jigg then you can hit the thanks button for knocking some knowledge into you noob.

Actually you could've just corrected/linked me without this "better than thou" attitude that XDA is infamous for. Thanks for being the shining example.
OP: My bad, I was wrong and I guess you're effed. Statik was right.
Damn that sucks. This is one of the reasons I don't like hacking my device.

That's most likely the case. Waking up early for a midterm and then posting late that same night does that to me... I'm sorry.
Time to sleep this all away.
Don't let one little thing deter you from rooting and hacking, the upsides heavily outweigh the down sides. I did a little research and these guys will fix your phone for 50 bucks: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-epic-4g-touch-jtag-brick-repair/
I'm quite surprised that i actually bricked. I've been downloading roms since i owned the thing. Always soft bricked with no issues. First time i tried to download Cyanogen mod. and boom, gone. I ordered a JiG to try out anyway. Will report back when i get it. Will try Jtag if it doesnt work. Thanks guys.
Good luck

Yup. Screwed. I had the exact same problem. Josh at mobiletech gave it his best but it was something about the motherboard being ****d but hey, he did offer to do the replacement if I could find the part. But meh, I chalked it up, decided it was time for a contract/insurance (was using an e4gt flashed to cricket) and got my new one today and had AOKP running smooth 30 mins later
And!!! I have a fancy paperweight!

[Q] Bricked... but maybe a way out?

so I was on vacation in europe and my wifi wouldn't connect, so I flashed CM9 as on a whim and the wifi worked great (for google voice wifi calling). The phone was acting wacky so I went into recovery to wipe cache and I accidentally did a full wipe (I blame the jet lag) using the included recovery and rebooted..and my phone was bricked. no samsung screen, no download mode, just solid blue light.
here's my question...
I read in another post that you can try holding the vol down and power until the blue light does the single blink and see if odin recognizes it and trying oding el29. I'm at work, so before I drive all the way home to try it, is there any truth to this idea or should I just wait patiently for my replacement phone?
thanks in advance
I have heard it doesn't work for a full brick, which it sounds like you have. Wouldn't hurt to try though. Usually if you can't access the download screen you're done.

I know. and I knew immediately what I did. Not my first brick, lol. having TEP removes all safety protocols I should take when flashing, which I do about 10 times a week
but seeing that post gave me a glimmer of hope that I won't have to keep using my old blackberry until my replacement comes
You'll probably be able to get into ODIN D/L mode and flash everything but your /data partition. The problem is that usually when people do what you did, their /data partition memory gets corrupted in hardware, so you can try, but be prepared to get a replacement.
Oh no Wiz. Weren't you one of the early bricks from CWM Touch? I'm afraid sfhub is probably right. Getting Odin to connect is actually the easy part in these cases. Getting through data.img successfully is another story. Sorry man.
Sounds like you'll be stuck at data.img if you get into Odin. Best of luck though.

I actually never had a problem with the cwm touch, lol. my first brick was when I tripped over my usb cable while using odin XD
after that I got a usb jig... which I recommend EVERYBODY get. It's saved me from that fate at least 3x already.
but it didn't help now
didn't work. odin wouldn't recognize it
guess I'm stuck waiting for my replacement to come in..
I hate using this stupid blackberry

my phone will not turn on or go into recovery or download mode, every time i put the battery in, the phone turns on for a second, then the screen fades off and the phone will constantly just vibrate every 2 seconds... with the screen off... i dont know wut to do... has anyone else had this issue?, id really appreciate the help. thanks.... honestly ive never seen anything i couldnt recover my phone from.

Have you dropped it recently because the screen might have come partially disconnected from the phone and cause the screen to go off.. However I guess that doesn't explain the vibrating

If all else fails its still something you can check out.. It's easy to fix you just need a tiny screwdriver and to open it up and reconnect it...
If I was you I would try to get it in download mode long enough to flash.. It's almost instantaneous

It could be a hardware issue. in which case you could send it to Samsung for repair. But they might not want to cover the bill if they find out its rooted and running custom firmware.. Maybe try to fully brick it first so they can't see your flash counter

This exact thing happened to me.
I couldn't ODIN or went into recovery because the phone wouldn't stay on long enough.
It would turn on for a few seconds and died and would constantly vibrate.
I tried JIG to force into download mode. Didn't work.
I tried JTAG service. Didn't work.
I was lucky enough that the phone was still under warranty so I had it replaced. But I think your phone is as good as gone.
You can always try JTAG (the only service that MIGHT bring your phone back to life) and hope that you're luckier than I was.

I suggest that you send it for JTAG service anyway. If they can't fix it, they'll refund your money less shipping charge so you're only out a few bucks.
If they could fix it, then you obviously could sell the phone for a little bit more. Considering that you're already willing to cut your losses anyway, might as well give it another week or so. At least this way you know that you've tried absolutely EVERYTHING and know for sure that the phone is actually beyond fixing.
Or, you can try contacting this guy.
He's looking to buy a T989 motherboard. I'm assuming a "working" motherboard, but hey... you never know, right?
Good luck!!!! :fingers-crossed:

[Q] Screen is unresponsive with finger

I was running the tweeked rom on my Note 2 and was loving it, was running great for a few days...
Today the screen froze when I went to unlock and check a missed call. I am unable to get any response from my finger, nothing... The S pen does work though.
T-mobile tech knew nothing about how to fix it. I tried a different rom and still the same.
Any suggestions? Calibration? Anything? Thanks so much.
As it exists across roms, it regrettably sounds like a hardware issue. Have you tried flashing a stock odin? Likely won't help but it might be worth a shot.

Thanks for the reply. I am afraid that is a pretty big problem too, related to hardware. 10 minutes before the finger freeze I was just realizing how much I loved the phone with the Tweaked Rom and totally set-up.
Anyways, it's going back to T-mobile. I used Odin to flash to stock and used Triangle Way to reset the flasher... Now I am scared to root it and run a rom on the new one, but I know it was just a freak incident...
Just sucks, I hate getting a refurb replacement... I don't know what dirty, grungy, smelly pocket it's been in for a couple months, uh...
I had an issue on my first note 2 where the top right and left of the screen couldnt register the s pen, had to send the phone back. I flashed jedi as soon as i got the second one and been happy ever since.
Moral of the story, DONT WORRY AND FLASH AWAY. ur right, it was a freak accident and it wont happen again.
