[Q] Home Button LED Notification Inconsistencies - LG Optimus G Pro

Is anyone else noticing inconsistencies in their Home Button LED Notifications? I'll often not get any notifications for missed SMS Messages or emails. Is anyone else having a similar issue? I've tried toggling the Folio Quick Cover on and off and that doesn't seem to make any difference. Any suggestions?

I haven't noticed any issues with missed calls, sms or emails. Seems to be working 100% on mine. Did you check under Settings > Display > Home button LED (press on the text, not the blue toggle button) > Select missed event. Check that you have Messaging checked, along with any of the others you want notifications lights for.

Making sure it was checked was the first thing I did. When I toggle the other Notification options (Besides Downloaded Apps and Missed Events) they all show a preview of the LED notification. Would you mind checking to see if yours previews the LED when toggled?
EDIT: Toggling Notification Popups didn't have any effect, either.

Mine shows the preview for everything except download app and the 4 options in the secondary screen under the Select Missed Event option.

Hmm. Maybe I have a hardware problem, then. Mine doesn't do anything when I toggle the main option for Missed Event or the options in the secondary menu. :/
EDIT: Definitely suspecting a hardware issue here. I just looked at a video of the home button colors during boot and mine never does any yellows or greens. Guess I should take this to an AT&T store to get swapped out. :-/

Just reverted the QSlide Notification fix and unrooted so I can exchange at an AT&T Store today. I'm going to do a factory reset beforehand and test functionality before I exchange, but I'm guessing it's hardware related.

UPDATE:
After dealing with an incompetent AT&T employee who erroneously told me that I would have to drive to another store about 30 miles away I have a new OG Pro. All is well!

He said that his store (corporate store, not an authorized retailer) was unable to do warranty exchanges and that the closest location with a device service department was ~30 miles away. The guy at the other store told me that since my phone was bought within 14 days a regular exchange (not a warranty exchange) was what was going to happen. The other store was absolutely capable of doing a regular exchange. I guess he just didn't feel like dealing with it. *Shrugs*

At this point I don't think it's really worth it. Most people probably would have just done the exchange through customer service over the phone, I'm just more impatient. I already had to wait a few days to get the first one delivered and I'd have been damned if I had to wait for a fully functional one.

I notice that if I clear the alert from the notification area the LED still does a rapid blink at least the green one which is a missed call.

I just went through the same exchange at a corporate store in NYC. Customer Care on the phone wanted to charge my credit card a second time for the device replacement. This just doesn't happen with Verizon.

I disagree-I always had much worse service and device support when I was on Verizon. Honestly, AT&T has always been great to me when I have issues. This was an isolated incident with a particular employee. I've never regretted, for a second, switching to AT&T from Voldemort... I mean Verizon. Their reps have always gone above and beyond to help with even the most trivial of issues.

SMS messages in wrong order

hi guys,
Just noticed last night, my desire hd seems to be really slow on the uptake to check for new sms messqges, and when it foes receive some, it receives them after newer messages that he contact has sent. Would this be a software problem, or is it a problem with my signal strength and the fact I had mobile data on at that point? If it helps, I was only getting strength enough to use gprs, not even edge.
Cheers in advance

I had the same problem with my HD2, and wrote to HTC about it. They said that I should turn off time sync in settings gsm/umts.. and it works
Oh, wow. No clue that it would've been that. Cheers for that, will hopefully see a difference now.
(and can any android owners just confirm that this would be the setting under Settings>Date & Time>Automatic (Use network-provided values), please?)

It cant be.
I have automatic time in Data & Time unchecked but still getting wrong order if two messages have the same hour and minuts. This is the problem of HTC sense and probably can not be corrected without their update.

I second that, I checked it off and still the incoming txts are dated 5 hrs earlier than my local time.
I called HTC customer service and they assured that the issue is with the cell tower, it sends the message to my device dated 5 hrs earlier
( in other words its the Carrier's fault ).
So, I called Rogers and their Rep. notified me that its a well known issue with android and was addressed with the 2.2 update for rogers devices. ( My DHD is Telus branded )
Then, I called Telus and they basically told me to to stick my phone into the area where the sun don't shine
( The rep did tell me that she had no Telus customers reporting this issue for this device )
Thus, according to my logic, HTC will issue a fix for this only if Telus customers start receiving their incoming txts stamped 5 hrs earlier
It Works for me
Mine was doing exactly the same as yours I checked and saw that my network's times were ten minutes ahead of the actual time, so messages you sent, your phone says you sent it 10 minutes after you did, so when your phone receives messages, it puts them before chronologically as it records it by the phone time...very odd ...But yes, I disabled it and set the time myself to the actual one, and the messages corrected themselves. Very helpful, thank you
I had this issue too, but using a 3rd party messaging app like GoSMS did the trick for me. I set the messaged to 'order chronologically' instead of 'ordered by time'.
Search SMS Time Fix in the market (icon is a bandaid)
install it, set it to active (checkbox)
and select adjustment method as the 4th option "Use Phone's Time"
problem solved, and it doesnt screw up any apps that uses time zone data.

[Q] Have you ever heard of mystery texts from 9329 saying "Your validation code is: "

[Q] Have you ever heard of mystery texts from 9329 saying "Your validation code is: "
I was really creeped out by this today.
Normally when you get a text saying "Your validation code is: [followed by some 8 digit code] " it's because *you* asked for it.
And if you *didn't* ask for it, you could be justifiably concerned that someone else *did* try to authenticate using your credentials somewhere.
Usually this is a harmless random occurrence, but in my case today I got three of these in a row immediately after the phone recovered from a mysterious freeze.
Today I had been downloading some unfamiliar apps ("VPN Connections", VPNC widget, and 2X (remote desktop) Client after which the phone did something I haven't seen before: I was running the maps application when it froze, stayed frozen, and after trying everything possible, I just held down the power key for like 20 seconds after which the blue skateboard CM7 boot animation appeared immediately (bypassing the usual white HTC EVO 4G screen) and the OS reloaded in just a few seconds.
Admittedly this fast boot behavior could be normal for all I know, but combined with the rest of it seems really odd and I feel paranoid.
What could I have been doing lately that might trigger this particular sequence of mystery freeze followed by mystery text?
Has anyone personally experienced anything similar?
bump - I did search google for any reports of similar experiences and got nothing which is why I thought I might ask around here..
I called Sprint. They could not tell me anything about these text messages or any text messages in fact. They said they have access to call detail but not text details. Basically unless law enforcement gets involved you can't talk to the super *duper* part of Sprint support that can retrieve information on texts. Seems a little lame not to be able to talk to customers about what is going on on their own network, but there it is.
Anyway while I was researching all this I checked my account online and while reviewing my bill I discovered a (presumably older and unrelated) mystery charge for $9.99 from
Mobile Love: Alerts - 34095 MBLLOVE
If you google this scam you will find many people receive three text messages in a row (in this case from 34095) and then discover the charge on their bill later on. Supposedly if you text "STOP" back to that number you don't get charged but it's a total scam either way. It's possible I got a text from 34095 at some point and just disregarded it. I can't remember honestly. Anyways Sprint removed the charge for me.
They also said, going forward, if any charges appear as a result of the 9329 texts (see OP) I could always call back and have them removed later. Otherwise there will not be any record of these texts or any way to find out more about them. Ever.
I'm not really as worried about getting *charged* for something as somebody untraceably signing up for some *access* to something in my name. Oh well. No point in worrying about something you can't control I guess.
Wow that's bizarre dude.

My guess is that you installed an app that had permission to modify your SMS Text Messages and Use Services That Cost You Money. Alternately, if any of the apps required root access that is the same thing.
What happens is this: the app uses it's permissions to send a SMS text to a short code and then delete the text. That way you cannot directly see that "you" signed up for a premium text service. You need to be very careful to look at permissions before installing apps of questionable origin... even if they are on the official android market... even if they do not require root.

I think the Sprint Visual Voicemail app uses a validation code
The other day I was in my Sprint.com account and found 2 9.99 charges on 2 of my lines for some text thing also. I called Sprint and told them I don't know where they came from. Sprint took the charges off. I asked them if there was anything I could do about it because this wasn't the first time it had happened. The lady said I can block all 3rd party text so you don't get spam text and extra charges. It didn't effect anything else. I had them do it and everything works flawlessly. It doesn't cost a dime for them to do it.
Typical SMS scam, the really messed up part is that the carrier takes a cut in exchange for looking the other way and acting like they don't know whats going on..... essentially, by NOT responding to these messages you signed up for their service. Thankfully, these have never shown up on my bill, but if they did I wouldn't call sprint....Ill call my lawyer instead.
This video explains everything....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9MQAfh-bCE&feature=youtu.be
One of my co-workers got one of these messages like a year ago, he has paid it every month because he never looks at his bill but just pays it regardless of the amount. On the flipside, people make fun of me sometimes for taking my good-ol' paper check down to the bank and not having my bills automatically pay themselves....
EDIT: Im astounded at the claim made by the poster above me, where sprint was actually willing to do something about it...I deal with a lot of cell phones and I have never seen an instance where a carrier took proactive action without hassle...they always pull the "duhhhhhhhhhhhh...we don't know whats going on so were going to transfer you around until you get frustrated and give up/hang up".

It wasn't a claim. They did it. I told her what was up and she got her supervisor on the phone and they did it. I'm sorry if you think things can't be done with a good attitude and the right words.
I wanted to ask for some clarification on this actually: you said they happily took action to block "all 3rd party texts". Does that mean you have effectively disabled SMS completely?
I mean I do want to receive real texts from warm bodies. Do they have some way of detecting and blocking texts from short codes?
Does this break other notifications (eg visual voicemail or alerts from sprint letting you know about new services or when your bill is ready for viewing)?

The other services you are referring to are Sprint services. This blocks 3rd party. Meaning outside spam text as we call them. It does not disable SMS at all. It just blocks outside spam text and things that cost you extra charges from happening.

I didn't use the term "claim" to be rude, just out of personal philosophy that this is the internet and everything is to be taken with a grain of salt, this is compounded by my experiences with carriers and their knowledge and/or willingness to take care of the issue.
I have personally never had to call sprint for this issue for myself or anyone else, 99% of the time I have to deal with this issue, its with at&t or cricket, only one on verizon and this was a while ago.

I was doing a lot of things to the phone that day. Also, just to review, the phone "crashed" (did some kind of fast boot) while using maps, and then immediately after the OS came back up, I got the three text messages telling me what my "valdiation code" was.
Amongst other activities I had been doing that day, I installed 3 apps:
VPN Connections (not downloaded from market, yes downloaded from the net)
2x Client for RDP / Remote Desktop
VPNC Widget
At the time of the crash I had already uninstalled the first one after I discovered the last one worked better for me.
None of these look like they require unusual permissions (like "Use Services That Cost You Money") that illogos mentioned above.
I actually still have the download of "VPN Connections" on my SDCard. I double clicked the apk again just to see what permissions it required, and it just said "Storage (modify/delete SD card contents)" and "Phone Calls (read phone state and identity)". I downloaded it from here, http://code.google.com/p/get-a-robot-vpnc/ , which doesn't look *that* sketchy. However it hasn't been updated since June 2010 and no longer appears in the app market, so clearly it was not going to be my first choice. I did run it, it did work; But, for the reasons above, I quickly replaced it once I found something equally functional that looked like it was better supported.

[Q] LED Gmail problem

Got phone yesterday, T-mobile G3 D851, so far have one major issue - LED notification doesn't work for Gmail. It works for Twitter, missed phone calls, text messages, but Gmail is dead, I have to wake up phone every time I want know if I have new mail. My previous phone is G2, still have it, no such problems. I searched G3 settings, left no stone unturned, nothing. Google search brings only one result from xda-devs where poster complains about same issue, but the thread is short, no one gives him a good advice, and it's not clear which G3 he has, EU, ATT, Tmobile or etc.
The lack of outcry on the web makes me think that it's just me and the phone has to be exchanged. If you can, please confirm my worst fears or tell me how to fix this.
Tnanks a bunch.

HTC U12+ Known Issues

Sooo I got the phone last Thursday and am using it on Verizon. I've had a few issues that I figured I'd throw a thread together incase anyone else has the same...
Known Issues that I have:
"GroupMe" application will not update unless I am in the application and clicking on a specific chat. - Worked on every other phone I have and cant even find anything on this subject on google. If someone sends a message in a chat it will not update or notify me. I have to click on the specific chat for it to update. I've reinstalled the app 3 times and cleared the cache. un-optimized it with battery settings, nothing is working.
Fixed Issues that I have:
Phantom vibration. - Almost like a notification is happening but nothing is showing on the screen. Cant figure out this one for the life of me. I even have a notification log downloaded and it just vibrates away with nothing being logged.
Found out it was Verizon Caller ID app. Apparently it keeps crashing and "starting" over and over again. I disabled notifications on it and the vibration went away!
MMS Cannot be received only sent. - I've gone through this extensively with Verizon support. Tried everything on another thread, switched out sim blah blah blah, finally they have opened a ticket with the engineers and will get back to me in 48 hours.
Works now in default app just not android messages......................................
Anyone else having any other issues?
That's disappointing that there are mms issues. MMS on the U11 using anything but the stock messaging app was a complete ****show. I hope you can get more bands than just 13 as well.

MMS works fine on my European un-locked (and rooted) U12+. Got one as late as yesterday... Using stock SMS app.

Someone on Android Central had Verizon block messaging and then re-add it for everything to work. Maybe worth a shot?
Same here... Unlocked US model. Send but not receive texts...
I've done the same, reset, new SIM, swapped Sims etc.
I'll take a look on AC and see if they have something there for a solution... Thanks for the heads-up. Glad I'm not alone.

I have found that Android messages app doesn't work as you can't select the preferred sim for messages. Having to use stock at the moment.
Somewhere in another thread, there was an adb command I think that set and enforced the default sim slot. Wonder if that would help with your issue, Nestacres? Sorry, I would search myself and link but just checking in on a quick break at work.

Android Messages isn't comiled for usage with Dual-SIM, as Google Nexus/Pixel phones are all Single-SIM devices. If you know how to use adb you cand do the following:
From adb shell run the following command
Code:
adb shell settings put global multi_sim_sms 1
This did the trick on the U11 DUGL as well, and Android Messages could be used and worked just fine. Thanks to @Electronic Punk for pointing that one out to me!

It actually works great with dual sim, for some reason HTC left out the default SMS sim option out on Oreo (simply doesn't exist in settings.apk anymore) and only left the data one. Fortunately that fix is basically a fire and forget, once it sees a default it has no issue picking between them.
HTC handle it differently on phone and SMS as they have a button for each sim.

Pr3dict: did you do anything different other than what you originally posted? I've been on vacation since i got the U12 and haven't called Verizon. I can send everything, but not receive. I can pop the SIM and put it in my iPhone x and the texts just role in immediately...I really want to love this phone! Lol

I did everything possible. Even got a new SIM... What seemed to do the trick (and was the last thing I did) was having Verizon block my messages and then unblock them.
Then I could send + receive. Beforehand I could only Send... But beware it does not work with Android Messages.

How did you first activate your phone? If it's not activated properly on Verizon it can fry your SIM card or cause things to not work.
I first swapped my SIM from my U11 and could not make calls but was able to use internet and send and receive text and mms. But just like the U11, I can only receive MMS on the stock apps like HTC messaging and Verizon message+. Cannot receive MMS on third party apps.
But the proper way to activate the U11 and U12+ is to first register your imei with Verizon then you have to transfer your SIM from a Verizon device that has advanced calling/VoLTE in the settings.
The U12+ does not have any Verizon advanced calling or VoLTE setting so if you just pop a new SIM in without first having it activated on a Verizon advanced calling device, it could cause problems and fry your SIM card.
It sucks but that is the best way to activate it.
Manually attached IMEI to SIM, and toggled messages/on/off on my account.
All is well and working for receiving SMS/MMS on stock messages! It worked immediately...
Thanks for the feedback and discussion everyone.

In my case, after updating (purely, after RUU) to v1.21.401.3 I have noticed a few times that after picking up the device and "squeezing" I should wake up, scan my face and unlock my smartphone (I have my preferences set) .
But just the few times after "squeezing" the device does not react at all, there is no vibration.
After the traditional unlocking (applying the finger to the fingerpront or pressing the POWER button) the smartphone wakes up properly.
This happens when the smartphone is not used for a long time (deep sleep?).
But this is not the rule.
I also had ONE total reboot.
On the other hand, the update did not improve in the first few months the best inflections of the volume up button (Vol +). Very often you have to press many times "to surprise", and pressing and holding it to turn up in series - is very difficult to achieve

Is anyone else having issues with the youtube app? Im finding it buggy. To be precise: if I start a video and then turn the phone landscape to go into fullscreen, if I then turn back the phone vertical and come out of fullscreen and then try minimise the still playing video it goes a bit haywire, parts of the screen goes grey and I can't minimise the video. Can any replicate?!

New issue thats bothering THE CRAP OUT OF ME!!!!
The phone isnt vibrating on incoming calls. I thought I just kept not feeling it or hearing it but nope, the phone literally turns the screen on and it just doesnt vibrate. I don't have battery saver on, and I don't have "Do not disturb" on. Its weird.

Discovered a slight work around since. It doesn't happen if you go in and out of fullscreen using little button in the bottom right. So it only happens with auto rotation.

Question Google's Messages stuck on "trying to verify" in chat features activation menu

Never had an issue with this app doing this before, but here we are. I've made sure my number was correct, and even added the Messages app to MagiskHide (which I've never had to do before). It still is stuck. Eventually it gives up trying to verify, but tapping the button just repeats the same issue again. Any ideas?

It's really annoying I've had this before. What I did I'd clear data cache in the messages app restart phone then do same again delete data cache then open messages app and try again. If that fails then you have to turn chat off for 7 days don't try turning chat on within the 7 days otherwise it resets to 7 days again. It's a right pain in the but.
I wish I had a answer for you. I was having the same issue on stock, switching to global, switching to eu, etc. Just a couple nights ago I installed magisk and no modules and left my phone alone for a bit (maybe a hour?), When I picked it back up I had 10 encrypted messages I couldn't read come in from a friend that must have came in over the past couple weeks. It was just random.

Seven days?
Seems excessive. How/where did you get this length of time?

That's unfortunate. Have you ever had this issue with any other device?

Not that wasn't cleared up with a wipe data/cache and restarting the app.

I tried Dale's suggestion, clearing data and cache and rebooting the phone. After a minute it popped up the message "enabling chat features, we'll let you know when it's ready." Checked the settings 15 minutes later, and it said "Trying to verify..." STILL but the button to manually verify was usable.
This sucks.
This had happened to me ever since I got the phone and since my carrier is Verizon, It didn't work right out the gate and tried so many different solutions.
then I read that it could still be linked to your old phone so i put my sim card back and then turned off features and then popped it back to the OP and then just left the messages app run in the background and then it suddenly said chat features enabled.
I don't know if this will help you but it worked for mine.

I turned it off on my old device (doesn't have service anyway). Still no dice. Ugh!!
I've had multiple issues with apps not sending OTP codes or being able to log in completely, and I even think I've had the same issue you are having when I had "dns.adguard.com" set as my private dns setting. Also, if you use AdAway, that could cause the issue. For some reason I have to disable AdAway to use the Amazon app. Weird.

If you have some sort of vpn running, try disabling it and activating chat features. For me it won't work until I turn my vpn off.
is Google carrier services app is up to date on your phone?

Oh yep, in fact I had another thread about that. Turns out the new AdAway seems to inadvertently block a lot of things. Try adding "*amazon*" (without quotation marks) to the whitelist. PayPal was another I needed to add to the whitelist. I also added Google to see if it'd work for this, but nah... No such luck.

No VPN in my case, that I'm aware of.

Yes. I did find it disabled, oddly, so it's enabled and up to date now. Matter of fact, I even installed the latest from APKmirror.

Thanks for the Amazon tip! I was trying to figure it out for the longest time. Even tried the hard way of adding it a long time ago. Just got used to disabling it to use the app or using Amazon through a browser.
It always takes a minute for my chat features to be enabled. Whenever I get a new phone, I always get the message saying "chat features are unavailable for this device" then after a few hours/days, the pop up says that they're ready. I think I leave Messages open in the background. Never had to disable it on the previous device. T-Mobile user here.

Sure thing, glad I could help. If anything, though, you should thank @terlynn4 for that whitelisting suggestion.
In my case this has been going on for a good few days. I've done websearches and researched all the possible causes and solutions I could find, but nothing has worked in my case. Yet. I think the main issue is that I'm not getting the authorization code that Google sends via a short-code service text or whatever those are called.

Usually when I don't receive the code, it's because AdAway or private DNS settings as stated before. But since you're not using any of those, I'm not sure what else would be preventing from sending the code. Is there any way you can use the Messages for Web feature, bring up your messages on PC, send the code that way and see if it comes up on the web?
I had the exact same issue as you, the issue was that Verizon still had my old phone associated with my account. Verizon support asked my for my iccid (16 digit number physically printed on the sim card), and after they associated it with my new phone I received the backlog of all the sms from short codes that I had missed and rcs verified after 15 minutes and a reboot.

LMAO, was that what it was? Funnily enough, now that you mention that, that might be the case for me as well. I had recently jumped from a OnePlus 7T to the 9 Pro, and everything had transitioned smoothly, other than this.

I could give that a try, sure. I do have access to a PC/web browser.

I don't think it did. Or would. Still no message on either end. Something isn't allowing it to be sent in the first place, it seems.

I had the exact same issue on verizon, but with a globel version. Wouldnt recognize the phone at all. After calling, they pushed me to tech support. Because the phone isnt in their system, the guy had to take an IMEI from another CDMA-Less phone, and enable the CDMA-Less feature. Then he put my IMEI back. Rebooted, and got 2 days worth of texts, and chat features enabled instantly.
The guy said there's a chance that "cleaners" will comb through accounts and reset it, but if it happens, I just have to do the same thing again.
