Just curious, what's the advantage of having the superuser app when the device is rooted out of the box?
I look forward to seeing what else can happen with this device, and would be happy to test if needed.

although its already in non-secure mode, the apps that run "su" dont recognise it, so the root app is required together with its "su" command.
and it actually also have the advantage of you being in control of which apps get root access..
although your "adb shell" is in a root shell, the apps running still has non-su rights to the system, otherwise its would be pretty open as well and without much security.
I went ahead and applied version 1.0a over 1.0. I didn't take the time to do a backup so I didn't wipe/factory reset first. Everything went well, but calendar still gets a force close upon launch (not a problem for me, I don't need it). I may go ahead and wipe it and reinstall 1.0a, but I'm very happy with it as is for now.
Thanks again for making this rom! I'll hit that donate button for sure.
Thanks Dexter, tossed a donation your way.
I couldn't get root access back so I'm rerunning the update after a full wipe of data and cache. I will let you know how it goes.

Couldnt install the su zip file it put on my sd either..
I couldn't get SU to update either (placed on SD card as update.zip, but no joy). Just for grins I tried Z4root too, it went through the motions but no root. I tried to use Titanium Backup to install busybox. It downloaded the binaries but nothing changed.

I may flash the offocial update, reinstall the modified build.prop, and reinstall market.
The was a post somewhere in the BJ's 299 thread about busybox not installing correctly due to differences in the directory structure on this device, which caused loss of root.

This didn't work... other than this superuser permissions being messed up everything else works stellar!
If we don't have anything soon, I'll flash back and poke around with the modified build.prop on the official build.
Edit: Reinstalled the official elocity update and got my root back, installed gapps, now updating build.prop. Hopefully this gets me all the market fixes minus that Su thing. Superuser app is available in the market too. Report back soon.
So you're basically just using the build prop settings out of this rom with the factory update? I went back to version 1.0 for now.

Yeah pretty much!... did you not have the SU issues with version 1.0? If not I'll just update to that. I can't get Bank of America or Tasker to install even using the build.prop from the ROM, there's something other than the fingerprint in this ROM making the magic happen.
Titanium back up reports root access with V1.0 and I can get the # at the prompt in terminal. Lots of other apps that wouldn't install with the eLocity update install just fine with it too.
im a little confused..
i added the "su" command to the build, it never was there...
i added Superuser.apk as well.. and if you're trying to add those on top , you might corrupt it, and also,
VERY IMPORTANT filesystem has 0 bytes free, so any copying will probably corrupt the su command or other copied files..
Does this rom support ad-hoc wifi tether?

[MOD][SCRIPT] Auto SMS-MMS Enabler for Tablets (Any ROM!)

Hey guys
As you might know, many people want to enable SMS & MMS on their tablet.
Unfortunately, until now someone needed to manually edit your framework-res.apk
But not anymore!
I made a script that will do it automatically on any framework!
3 Steps for noobs (fully-automatic version):
1) Download it (v1.2 for noobs)
2) Connect your device to pc (usb-debugging enabled)
3) Extract and run LAUNCH THIS
4 Steps for smart people (semi-automatic version):
1) Download it (v1.2)
2) Extract & put YOUR framework-res.apk in the same folder
3) Run LAUNCH THIS
4) Push the SmSframework-res.apk to your device (don't ask how, i will also make a version for really noobish people, which will pull and push your framework automatically)
-----------------
CHANGELOG:
2012-03-02: Made script more clear to understand, added auto-reboot on noob version
-----------------
NOTICE:
Dear noob-version users, currently the script does not mount the system partition automatically as R/W, if you got such an error, please use Root explorer to mount the system as R/W
P.S. Dear Americans, most carriers block SMS in the US
I'll wait for the (version for really noobish people, which will pull and push your framework automatically) 'cause I'm a lil lazy right now LOL.
I will do backup, and give it a try! I'll be back to let you know how it went, Thanks.

Ok,
Ran the LAUNCH script - got to the point where it was going to enable the SMS, then error "Sms Enabled"

C:/Sms-Mms enabler/edit.exe not a valid win32 application
But everything else on the script ran but with errors. I think the problem file is the "edit.exe"
After REBOOT - have to redo the Google Login, and Exchange Service for other Mail.
Afterwords checked System/framework folder .... both files were there. (framework-res.apk and SmSframework-res.apk.
I hope you get it working, because this would be awesome!

A new framework always wipes google accounts, idk why
also i did not test on 3.2
I will look in to it, i'll keep you posted
.
Im using EOS 1.0.0 ICS with my MZ601.
I generated the new SmSframework-res.apk,and pushed it as framework-res.apk
There is no stock sms application so i installed Gosms pro from market, and the sms feature works pretty fine with it
however my original framework-res.apk was 7.98 MB in file size, whereas the new generated Smsframework-res.apk is 4.46 MB
Why is this difference in file size ?? Is anything stripped from the framework-res ?

maybe it wont let me grab it because the phone is on? should i power off and grab it via usb cable? currently trying to modify it via Root File Manager App.

Is it giving you any kind of error? Since it's Write only, you'll probably have to change the permissions to be able to copy it from the cache folder. You should be able to do it with Root File Manager. I know I can with Root Explorer.

i created a 0byte file named update.zip in the cache folder and rebooted, and now it is telling me it is ok to install. (my battle level is below 50% so it wont let me). so i cured the modified error. but the actual download is still MIA. says device status is normal. it was probably kicking that error because it couldnt find the update.zip since i somehow renamed it and it decided to play Where's Waldo.

FAQ:
How to find the ota?
If you're rooted, wait for the device to prompt you to update, then check /cache for the file
If you're not rooted, wait until the same time and do an adb logcat and look for a line with .zip in it
Why isn't the latest ota listed?
We can only list what we have, if the ota from Build X to Build Y isn't listed, we dont have the file for it yet.
How do you setup adb/fastboot
Please read the stickies in the general subforum, this is not a formal guide
Do I need to unlock the bootloader to flash the update zip?
Yes, if you wish to do it manually.
If you allow android to prompt for the update, you do not need to unlock
Can I flash this if I have a custom rom?
No, you must be on a stock AND unmodified rom
Can I flash this if I'm rooted?
Only if you have not modified any files

Kernel source for kitkat-wear Tetra
Bill Yi
Oct 17
hi All,
Today, we pushed a kernel project for kitkat-wear release. The kernel source can be found on the android-bcm-tetra-3.10-kitkat-wear branch in the kernel/bcm project. It has the following tags:
android-4.4w_r5 Factory-ROM
android-4.4w_r6 update #1
bill
There will be an ota when the product launches.
When it finally ships, could someone hook it up to wireshark/etherial/fiddler/<preferred network sniffer> and grab the full url name along with the filename of it?
Also could someone not update theirs immediately and dump the rom when a custom recovery is eventually made for it?
The ota for the SM3 is already rolling out, I do not have any information on either the starting rom or the one it flashes to.
no ota yet but firmware update available for me through pc companion (Ive updated..).
is the a way to convert pc companion files into something helpful?
Ive had already pushed and pulled files to watch via bluetooth adb and have installed towelroot via adb - e install.. didn't work as expected hehe. (I haven't bootloader unlocked yet in case there's drm?).
let me know if my pc companion files and rudimentary adb skills can be of assistance ?
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
fastboot oem unlock works, but make sure to format cache and user data.
How did you grab PC companion files, are they cached on disk or are you intercepted request?
I can force update thru pc companion ~ I presume I can find files somewhere on my pc ? (haven't looked yet, booted into linux atm on dual boot)
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
Looks like you are from Sony Android world, if Sony update images are something easy to extract boot.img we could get permissive/or tethering root kernel and/or twrp.
I'm still trying to figure out how similar this is to sony phones with the phone it is (relatively) easy to convert ota to ftf, then extract, edit default.prop, put back together and flash as insercure stock kernel. (saying that, I'm reinstalling linux after hd failure and have lost all my sony tools).
I don't think any of this is relevant though as I doubt the sony flashtool for ftf conversion will support android wear.
most likely, somebody better at this than me will pop up a recovery and then we are good I guess.
not sure much can be gained by having root yet anyway hehe (itching to sideload tasker though).
(using a not yet rooted z3 not helping either..)
and sry OP for OT.. started off relevant lol
Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
I dont use/have sony devices, but in the context of being a wear device: the updates should be otas, not done though pc companions.
wear devices are goog devices in all but name, the only thing separating them from nexus devices is the lack of factory images and redistributable binaries.
I doubt it is different, it shows as s1 device w/o driver in download mode and as SEFlash with driver and updates by the same pc companion using phone/tablet repair screen.
There is no need for Sony to reinvent the wheel. It is like Odin on Samsung, version of flashtool might be different but otherwise the same protocol and I bet the same packaging.
Will try to intercept download request.
Ok, no need to intercept, PC Companion caches the files.
Flashtool extracted it into individual sin files, but smartwatch3 is not listed in devices so I would not risk to flash ftf.
Boot.sin and recovery.sin when extracted by flashtool is actually android img files. Just tested fastboot flash boot boot.ext4 (which is android image) and device boots fine after that.
Extracted boot, recovery, system and userdata, will upload together with all sin files soon.
Also, no there is no need to reflash watch using phone/tablet repair menu, Accessories software update -> Smartwatch 3 allows to reflash stock firmware.

You are right in terms of OTA, but as with other devices - there are OTA and factory images, factory images are managed by the Sony (I bet samsung uses it's odin as well) and can be updated to or reflashed using their PC Companion software through sony s1 bootloader that is accessible with powerbutton (read sony download mode).
As soon as my uploads will be done I'll post urls to sony .sin files extracted by flashtool (can be further extracted from .sin container) and already extracted boot.img, recovery.img, system.ext4, cache.ext4 and userdata.ext4.
Will be in Rom dump request thread.
^^ :good:

From the user's perspective it might be semantics, as even for nexus devices: they still respond to OEM download tools.
For the N4 and N5, they both respond to and have LG tools+restore images, they also responds to qcom tools.
The difference is that these tools are not distributed to the public.
the ota system used however is all identical across goog rom devices, and so is goog factory images.
However: if sony provides their own factory images for this, and the original urls are available, I'll make note of it somewhere.
I need the original urls however, reuploads are not acceptable.
I've attempted to catch otas on motorola devices, but they use urls that are unique to the user and expire after a short amount of time, thusly I don't track OEM motorola otas, only otas for the play edition moto g.
Edit: there may be at least 2 otas for the sm3,
android-4.4w_r6 and android-4.4w_r7 are supposed to be for the sm3,
but the previously provided files are newer then android-4.4w_r8.
So it's possible that currently unboxed devices may have jumped from <unknown build>/r6 to r8 and skipped r7

fastboot oem unlock works, but make sure to format cache and user data.
How did you grab PC companion files, are they cached on disk or are you intercepted request?

Please verify if you can download it: http://software.sonymobile.com/ns/common/1/file/334/281751334_MkNeOD3-Rt7B0pOu9N5WSVtT.bin
This is main file (second of two) used by sony Update Engine, if you can download it I'll redo repair and capture url of the first one.
The files are:
FILE_281727981 - 90.5Kb
FILE_281751334 - 114Mb (120 155 512 bytes)
I dont know what convention sony uses for the files and directory name but they are usable by flashtool to at least extract the partition files (loaders, kernel, system, etc...). I'll try to get in touch with flashtool devs to produce ftf package to keep all files flashable by flashttol to even downgrade if needed.

How did you get the PC Companion to work? I can't get it past the 'Prepare' screen which tells me to make sure the watch is off, turn it on, wait for animation and connect the usb cable. The watch shows up in Device Manager as 'Tetra' without drivers installed.
^^ power off, usb plug in, usb connect to pc. a graphic of the usb plugged in shows up if done correctly. it was really hit and miss updating via pc companion for me, failed (it seems) 9 out of 10 times and then the 10th would work. (I reflashed stock 3 times now hehe)

bummer I can't update my watch as it has test/debug firmware installed and isn't recognised
Any way to force an update?
not sure how to force, I don't have debug/test firmware. It said I was up to date but allowed me to reflash 'current firmware' (4.4W2 build KNX01V) as a repair install.

Root Working

Root is no longer working on MM update.
Don't suppose anybody knows how to get to recovery with hardware button?

Swipe from top-left to bottom-right at the Asus logo. That gets you to fastboot mode, then swipe up and down to change menu items, swipe right to select.
Or you can enable debug mode and use adb reboot recovery.

You are a hero. I have looked for the better part of 2 hours for this. Anyway I'll sideload the LP update and start over. Hopefully somebody can make use of the recovery and boot pulls and get us a working recovery.
I would be very interested in REMOVING the Wellness app. This is the only reason I want root. Guess I will need to wait until we have a root enabled file manager. Alas, I can write in C++ fairly well, but know nothing of coding for android. Be glad to test any recoveries and operating systems on my ZenWatch.

It can be done without a file manager. If you have root, you can enable debugging, connect to a PC by USB, use adb to get a root shell, then adb uninstall package_name.
Edit...Which Benton are you in, BTW. I'm not far from Benton, IL.

Es File Explorer works fine and has an OK interface when on the watch. Also the KingRoot app that gets pushed has an uninstaller too for system apps. The biggest issue I've had is that when the prompt to allow root comes up you can not select allow. You have to cover the screen to back out, then go into KingRoot and open the log, then select the app you want to allow and set it to always allow. You have to do this after the initial failed prompt.
Edit: Freeport, IL here. Worlds a small place.
File Types?

The latest Windows version of kingroot works on the zenwatch. I currently have root that persists after reboot and I am working on pulling the boot.img and recovery.img. Not sure what to do after that, hope somebody can pick up on this.

I use ES File Explorer on my Nexus 6, CyanogenMod 12.1
I do not have a wearable app on my ZenWatch. Is it in settings somewhere?

You have to download the normal phone apk from apkmirror or some other site and use adb to sideload it. Google sideloading apps to Wear, should work the same for any watch. Otherwise you can buy Apps2Wear on the play store. I have done that because its more convenient.
Ok, went through the whole process, is there a way to check root access using ADB?
You should have KingRoot app installed on your watch. That will tell you if you have root. I imagine you could try to pull some files from /system or something that would normally not be accessible. I wouldn't recommend writing to system yet. I soft bricked by watch just by pasting a modified build.prop over the original, trying to turn off low bit depth ambient mode.
Root confirmed, having issues side-loading the ES File explorer apk, though. I'm using the App2Wear method. Still trouble shooting.

Make sure you have adb debugging and adb bluetooth debugging enabled on watch. Make sure you have usb adb debugging turn on on phone. Then make sure you have bluetooth debugging turn on in Wear app. Make sure you do these in that order because the toggle in the wear app wont show up unless you have debugging enabled on phone first.
This is the KingRoot file you need for windows.

Attached is the latest ES File Explorer APK
EDIT: I rebooted everything, and worked fine. Funny how rebooting fixes so many issues... Will test when side-load is completed.
EDIT 2: Looks like its gonna take a long time. Gonna go do dishes and whatnot and be patient.

Sorry, they are .img. They were pulled using Flashify. The extension must have been stripped when I uploaded them to Drive.

ES is 28 MB when installed, according to App2Wear, that should be 45-60 minutes to install.

Seems like its taking way too long (going on 1 hour+). Gonna reboot and try again.
---------- Post added at 11:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 PM ----------
If it fails this time, I will connect it to ADB with command line and manually push the apk onto the watch. I will give it until after dinner to complete the process.
Cant get it to install, and adb says its an invalid apk file when i try to push it. I suppose its not really necessary anyway. Ill just use KingRoot app if I need to do file management.

Did you confirm the apk was good? I'd try installing it on your phone. I don't think KingRoot has file management capabilities.
On a side note, I would advise against uninstalling anything. I just went to flash the previous OTA and it failed because I didn't have Jawbone installed.
