For the last 10 years, XDA-Developers has been a central pillar in the world of mobile device development. What started as a shared idea of a few enthusiasts, hackers, and developers, has evolved into a massive online community with members and developers from across the globe. Despite the size of our community, our ethos still stands strong: to advance the technology we use by means of research and collaboration. Our community has grown the way it has because people don’t like being chained to anything, let alone to a device that is bound to become obsolete within 6 months of hitting the market. That is the ideal that moves our community, but the driving force behind it is the ability and willingness to learn from each other. As a result of that thirst for knowledge, our devs have been able to accomplish the seemingly impossible (at least according to the very people who create the devices we own and love), which is to improve, adapt, and perfect, and even revive the devices.
We have seen some of, if not all, of the greatest names in this field taking off on our site and growing into giants in the mobile scene. People with similar interests congregate in the virtual walls of our forum and work towards a better future. XDA: DevCon is all this but taken a step further by tearing down the virtual walls and closing the distances that separate our community members from each other. The main objective of the conference is very simple: to take what we normally do in our forum and bring it live to maximize the experience and to learn from the very best. Most importantly, we aim to do it while having fun, just like the hobby this is meant to be. We’ll learn, laugh and have fun in the true spirit of XDA – collaboration.
Join us in honor of our Tenth Anniversary at our first Developer Conference – for developers by developers.

Special Price on Tickets
We want members of the XDA Community to be able to attend at a special price. So effective today, June 3, you can purchase tickets to XDA: DevCon for 50% off the regular price.

Would love to go to this, unfortunately I am unable to attend as I live in Australia, I do not have a passport, and I am only 17.
Would be a great kick to my development career if I could though!
Looking forward to a live stream of the event!

Well, due to the timing I'm out. But I have to ask - please consider something up here in Chicago. Got a lot of folks that could probably make it out here quite easily thanks to O'Hare and Midway - or drive, CTA, etc...

Less then 2 weeks until the Party Starts, I cant wait!

In case anybody's interested, here's a site that shows parking rates near the hotel (1395 Brickell Avenue) -- www.parkme.com (clicking the link launches search for the address and prompts for date(s) and times).
Cheapest: Miami-Dade College's parking garage, next to College-Bayside Metromover station parking garage[/url]. $5/day. You aren't going to do better than this. Roughly 20-25 minutes away by Metromover (free, 1.5 to 5 minute headways between 7am and midnight daily, roughly 1 block walk at both ends of the trip. Make sure you board "Brickell Loop").
For overnight parking, another cheap(-ish) option is 777 Brickell Avenue's garage... $10/day (resets at 7am, but doesn't become cheap until after 9pm Friday). Depending on headways, it might (or might not) be worth boarding Metromover at Eighth Street station and riding it to the end.You won't really save any time vs walking, but it's air conditioned.
For reference, the hotel itself charges guests $26/day for self-parking (no in/out), and $46/day ($38 + taxes) for valet (in/out allowed). I don't know whether non-guests are charged the same amount.
Other transportation options:
Metrorail now goes directly to the airport. Board at MIC (don't worry about color or direction... any train leaving the airport is going to be southbound Orange line). Get off at Brickell Station (one station south of Government Center). Transfer to Metromover (free, follow signs) and go south to the end of the line (Financial District Station). If you get on a car going the wrong direction and end up on the other side of the river in downtown Miami, just chill and enjoy the unplanned detour. It'll loop around downtown once, and head right back & end up at the right station.
For another year or so, Tri-Rail's airport station is closed due to construction, so if you're transferring to or from Metrorail, the original transfer station between 'Hialeah' and 'Northside' is still your only good option (you could technically take Tri-Rail to "Hialeah Market" station & take the shuttle to MIC, but it would be kind of silly).
Beware... Metrorail runs every 30 minutes on weekends, and neither Metrorail nor Tri-Rail even TRY to coordinate transfers. If northbound Metrorail and Tri-Rail trains arrive simultaneously, there's a 97% chance that one or both will deliberately leave before the screaming, desperate passengers running up or down the escalator 3 steps at a time get anywhere near the other train's platform unless one or more sympathetic passengers take matters into their own hands and stand in the doors so they can't close. The last two northbound trains on Saturday & Sunday depart from the Metrorail transfer station at 6:27pm and 9:52pm.

Excited to be attending. Thinking of setting up a little live blog action. Any qualms with licensing or anything like that?

By South Florida standards, a "30% chance of rain" is practically a drought.

All kidding aside, if they end up needing to scrape together another presentation if they have someone bail or want to tack one on to the very end, it would be awesome if they could find someone to give a "CM/AOSP/AOKP: source to S3" presentation that
* sets up a virgin build environment
* builds them all the way to a flashable ROM (showing all the first-time problems that get encountered along the way & how to fix them), then
* flashes that shiny new source-built ROM to an American S3 (or some comparable American phone that's not a Nexus and requires a bit of work to actually end up with a real, flashable ROM), including all the stuff necessary to make both the proprietary hardware and carrier-specific services work.
I'm using the American S3 as an example, mainly because it's probably the single most popular Android phone in terms of sheer numbers, it's mature enough to be relatively well understood (but still a b**ch to get an actual, flashable, fully-working ROM for), and the American versions all have identical hardware insofar as Android itself has to care.
Then again, something like this would probably have to be a multi-day bootcamp-type event, just because there's such a staggering amount of ground to cover... like having people who are attending get their prerequisite build environment set up (Ubuntu or Mac) and able to make it through some automated build without dying before arrival, then do the actual bootcamp the day before the conference itself begins. Or, to get really adventurous, maybe spend the day before the conference begins having the Nexus bootcamp laying the foundation, then have the "guerrilla warfare non-Nexus" bootcamp pick up where the Nexus one ends the day after the conference is over.

why is there so much hate about wp7 in its own forum?

why is there so much hate about wp7 in its own forum? i dont own one, but cmon guys, why so much negativity?!
sort of like asking why the ocean is blue... noone really knows.
(the ocean is blue due to the sunlight... )
For some reason, the people that seem to hate WP7 the most are Android fans.
There almost is an inability by some to acknowledge that different intelligent people could possibly have opinions that differ from their own.
This isn't true of a majority of Android fans of course, but the people that seem to have the most deep seated animosity towards WP7 happen to often be Android fans.
I don't hate Win 7, I just luv Android..................
so far for most of the users who bought the phone loved it. then again, dont we mostly love the phones we buy no mater what brand or os.
wp7 being a new os, im just waiting to see what devs will support it before i truly consider buying it.
It's Kinda Complicated...
This is a tough one but let me share why I feel this happens. XDA was the place to go for anything cool on Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile had alot of homebrew support and indie developer applications which you could find out about here. It was a very hacked open platform. Then Microsoft started talking about Windows Phone 7 and moved away from that community kind of alienating it a bit. Around that time that community started to move to the new hacked open playground being the Android platform. That being said after years of trying to explain all the cool things they were doing like free tethering for example with Windows Mobile to and defending themselves from the casual mobs of iSheep they still like to come back here and vent by hating on Windows Phone 7 for being the bastard successor to their former beloved mobile OS. A bit dramtically expressed by just what I am seeing.
Android fanboys.

Pretty much this.
Interesting thing is that even iPhone users seem to like WP7, so it must be the Android users...And I thought the apple gang was bad. This is just like discussing operating systems with 14 year old Linux users
Anyone can extend to WP7? LOL

Damned good point.
As someone who joined the Good Ship CE back in the days of the Jornada (and then WM with the Blue Angel) I guess there are quite a few of us who do feel that we have been abandoned by MS. We spent years being mocked and derided by others for wanting to have internet access and stoopidly large screens.
I appreciate that MS exist to make profit rather than entertain us, but at some point I will have to join the legions of WP. I don't want an Iphone or android so I have little choice.
If I am being honest part of my reluctance is the result of the fact that as I browse through this forum I am greeted by posts bragging about game scores or that are full of people slagging each other off. Just something I am not used to (here on XDA) and seems to go hand in hand with my concerns about dumbing down. Frankly this section of XDA is too often childish and *****y
Sadly it does seem that any dissenting voices are pooh-poohed as being WM haters. This is patiently daft.
I have been called a troll and android fan boy for whining about the lack of tethering and so forth.
So... getting back to the OP's question much of the criticism of WM is not indeed hate but disappointment at finding that MS have removed many of the features that we, as potential owners, had expected to be de facto.
I would argue the android comment. I'm on android now, but it was a protest against win phone 7.....because I loved winmo. Win phone is opposite direction.

Pretty much.
It's funny; my good friend is a hardcore Android user.
We've compared my Focus to his Captivate several times. I do like Android and the Captivate but when it comes down to it, they're sorta the same thing.
Both can do virtually the same thing and just as fast. Same hardware too I believe.
I just prefer the Focus because of the Windows UI. It's sleek, simple, and fast. Gets the jobs done. More and more apps are coming everyday and same goes for games. They are porting them constantly. I am more than pleased with my purchase and can't wait for the future of WP7!
-----
On another note if my Focus would have not accepted my MicroSD Card and reset randomly, lagged, and overall performed crappy... I'd go with the Captivate. Lol!
the thing is people seem to be confused and think wp7 is the wm6.5 upgrade when it really is not. The simple fact is that if windows 7 didn't have such a strong name i think they would of moved away from the 7 all together. WM and WP are not the same line WM is pretty much dead in the water due to Android and so MS has changed its target market. The problem with this is that people already new the MS target audience for WM and expected it to stay the same but it did not. They are after the average user the nokia clan if you will. This is why its kind of a big deal if nokia chooses to go with wp7 or not. This does mean however that there is a lot of wm fans left hanging in the wind and they are angry about this, then to top it off android fans see this and like to pounce (kind of like the guy in the pub that sees a man down then puts the boot in for a laugh even though its not his fight). The thing is this could all be squashed so easy by MS if they got there act together a bit better and started to actually push wp7 to the customer, it is easy to sit in a big office somewhere paying a large tv company to make adds for you but until they get people in the streets they are going to get over looked. We have all seen that the best tech isnt always what takes off. WP7 is the best os for the basic user by a long way and i hope MS give it the push it needs. That being said i do believe if nokia come on board then its a home run as the brand name will carry it to the right audience.
I love Windows Phone it can be properly amazing.
lumpaywk- I agree with you but would add that MS may have a problem with regard to whom to aim the phone at.
Apple did an amazing job of convincing punters that they wanted a phone that had features that would have otherwise been previously seen as geeky. Indeed they managed to convince many people that the had invent the whole concept.
Apple applied Jobsian post Fordist- you only need these features and no more (eg no copy'n'paste, tethering etc). They incorrectly assumed that all of their punters were brain dead and were proved wrong, as is evidenced by the fact they then added those features.
MS seem to be making the same mistakes. It is almost as if they assume that everyone is interested in social networking and gaming and nothing else. I guess I will be flamed by those stating that WP is a work in progress but they are speculating as much as I am with regard to what will and will not be available via future updates.
IMO MS have missed a trick- they could have proved an interface that required little savvy to use but which at the same time allowed a degree of customisation/functionality by those that want to dig deeper. It is inevitable that the Gurus here will enable that at some point so why not embrace it from the outset.
That would keep the (relatively small) WM owners happy and hand the techy bragging rights to WP, perhaps leading to migration form android/iphone. I have never owned either an andriod or iphone but can see why they find it so easy to take the pee out of some of WP's shortcomings (admittedly whilst side stepping it's strengths).
I think it unlikely that WP will crash and burn but it doesn't follow that it will automatically succeed. Sure MS have deep pockets but those pockets were even deeper when they were running with WM, and what happened to that
Here's the thing.
It's so easy to say that Android owners, or "fanboys" as some love to stamp them, are the ones who come in here with any negativity when there are other factors at play here.
1) I have seen threads started in this forum by WP7 "fanboys" on how WP7 is better than Android and basically just bashing the other OS, this can cause Android owners to retort with obvious failings of WP7.
2) Look at the bugs thread, this OS does have things still desired that need to be addressed.
3) The fact is, you can't just brush away and defend every criticism by anyone and pass it off as "fanboy" (whatever that even means). Just like if someone said "wow, Android sure has a fragmentation issue with so many different specced phones with different frameworks and UIs and stuff" I'd have to agree and confirm that that is a problem at times and not immediately label him a WP7 fanboy etc...
4) This forum seems to have more than a few overly sensitive dwellers who take personal offense at mere opinions of a phone's mobile OS as if it were some attack on your character or something, and so blow it up out of proportion.
Look, if calling anyone who doesn't agree with you an Android Fanboy makes you feel more important and better about yourself, then go for it, but at the end of the day you're not addressing the real drawbacks of WP7. We're all basically here to make our mobile experience better, no matter which OS we choose to go with.
Not only do you have Android/iPhone fanboys bashing WP7 but also WP7 users bashing it. That's because we love the phone and just want to see it getting better. On the other hand iPhone/Android users seem to think their phones are perfect already. lol. Thats why they are fanboys I guess.

In my case, it isn't hatred, it's a doomed system and I'm just expressing my sadness that such a nice system has to be destroyed by a deadbeat idiot leadership at MS. But I guarantee it is doomed...unless MS shakes up the management in charge of WP7.
The negativity happens because the regulars here hostile towards anyone, very little help here without pages of insults. You can usually get more straightforward responses from the MS wp7 forums compared to this place.
I just bought myself, my mom, my borther, and my wife all WP7 devices for christmas (one of each released in the states) and I know that were all hooked and I've been a member of XDA for a few years now and have been tinkering since I got the original HTC touch when it was new.

Back in the old days...

Things were much more peaceful around here before we got so gosh-darned popular. Becoming the go-to place for mobile hacking, I suppose, has that effect on forums. We've gone from a rag-tag bunch of legacy Windows Mobile enthusiasts to a lean, mean, and sometimes green group of Android hackers. While our members, moderators, administrators, developers, and posting styles have certainly changed; we have remained focused on only one thing--mobile hacking and development.
But for now, let's take a step back and remember what XDA was like back in 2003, when Windows Mobile was still cutting edge and the O2 XDA was only a few months old. Back then, fights never broke out and people generally respected their fellow forum members. At the time, we weren't just a place for users to come and get a "Kewl bit of kit." Rather we were focused on the joys of development instead of solely caring about the end product. We specialized in development, not troubleshooting. For better or for worse, however, the explosion of Android brought a sea of new people to XDA, many coming from more diverse walks of life than we could have ever imagined. This has lead to some inevitable butting of heads. Who could have imagined how things would change in the 7 years and three months from this posting date to when I became a registered member on these forums. This isn't to say that we won't try our hardest to help you out if you're having a hard time installing a ROM, kernel, mod or theme. However, we need to make sure that this in no way hinders development.
Luckily, there's nothing saying that we can't (and won't) bring back the same ethos we had in the early development days. As our master-in-chief Svetius recently stated, there will be some changes in the coming months meant to bring us back to a more development-focused environment. I think this is exactly what we need. For better or for worse, XDA has changed quite significantly throughout the ages. However, one thing remains true: We are all here in the pursuit of mobile hackery. XDA for life! Actually, no. XDA IS life!
Now, all of you disrespectful newbies, get off my lawn before I get angry.

PS. Lawn joke kanged (without permission) from Jimmy.
I agree. I wonder if many of the people who are demanding that we be a technical support forum realize what our address is. We are xda-DEVELOPERS.com not xda-troubleshooters.com. So our main focus is Development for our phones. If someone shows effort, respect and we have time we may answer a troubleshooting question. However, please note that typing such a request in all Caps, poorly constructed sentences, or repeatedly will only serve to make you look like a fool. Then, instead of getting help, you will get ridiculed. So please realize that we owe you nothing. Unless you have developed something and shared it with the community, then we owe you our gratitude and respect. I know that if you treat me with respect I will give you mine.
Many, many moons ago a group of individuals got together to see about developing fun stuff for their phones and come up with was of hacking them just for the fun of it…..great times, those were (in Yoda’s voice).
There were only a handful of devices that were actually worth a crap when it came to productivity and reliability.
One of them was my Sony Ericsson T610 which offered an array of features only seen on SiFi novels (I know I’m exaggerating but anywho..). Just imagine…Bluetooth and IR receiver in one device It was unheard of!!
Back then there were no kanging fights between developers. The biggest problem we had was to Hard SPL the Wallaby
I also remember having to rig a cable in order to download my first ROM in to my HP iPAQ 500 and Android was something that I had only seen in black and white movies where invaders would try and destroy humanity! Those were the days!
Those were the days and sadly they seem to be gone. Now days is more about who kangs who, trying to destroy noobs and attempting to make XDA into some kind of satiric, disgusting and unruly place when in all reality this was is and needs to remain a place where great minds get together to exchange ideas and create apps, mods and hacks that make our devices more powerful and efficient than any manufacturer cold ever do.
As we go back in time lets try and imagine a website where solidarity and comradery exist, where one can feel free to ask a simple question with out someone else popping out a meme mocking them while trying to flame them in ways that only the Spanish inquisition could do!!
Mates and fellow Mods….this is not the XDA that was envision back in those days….but is not too late…It’s “NEVER” to late to correct our ways and make XDA the best forum in the world!!
A great man once said, and I quote: “all I wanna do is a zoom zoom and a boom boom” and you know what….he was right!! I just want to zoom, zoom and a boom, boom also.
Cheers and may the force be with you……..

Many moons ago purchased an Orange SPV C500 and on searching how to make the device better "PIMPED" XDA a place for people with common interests, many friends met along the way, mind you that was the days of WM where people appreciated what they where provided........... Now every minor with a gun got a smartphone welcome to the present a place where people seem to think they have a view they can shout out and be verbal against many outstanding members of the community!!! Think i preferred just dealing with SPAM.

You, my good friend, win at XDA and teh internatz.
Post good memories you have about your beginnings on this site...we want to hear them
My first time here
I first came to XDA after getting my first PDA as a gift. It was a (HTC made) HP iPAQ 1945. It was my first time using a WM device ever. I was wowed by the ability to take any of my documents with me and to be able to beam them wirelessly via infrared or BT. It wasn't long before the interface left me waning more, however. I searched around and found some decent themes on XDA. This was around late 2004 or early 2005 as I recall.
I began reading up on all the cool mods and tweaks that this site had to offer for the platform. I came in every now and then for a while until I finally registered for an account in March of 2005. About a year after that, I ended up replacing my old bar phone with another iPAQ, this time, the cellular service-enabled HP iPAQ hw6945.
It had everything I wanted. It had a decent processor, a small amount of user upgradable RAM (if you have decent soldering skills), an amazing keyboard, and several other wireless services like cellular, WiFi, BT, and GPS. The downsides to the phone were it's enormous girth and its relatively crappy screen. It was a rather large, square 3" screen sporting a terrible 240x240 resolution. Even now, I still play with it every now and then and wish HTC/HP had gone with a nicer 480x480 screen.
I kept this device for several years, since, back then, you didn't HAVE to upgrade your phone every year to keep up with the times. WM devices were good for the consumer in that they were long lasting. It wasn't until 2010, almost four years later, that I finally got a Rhodium to replace my iPAQ. I simply fell in love with the keyboard, as nearly all Rhodium owners will tell you. I then came back to XDA to learn more about it. I decided to change my username for the third time and make it something less specific to the device I had at the time. That's how I came about with this name.
My Rhodium was plagued by problems of software that was not properly designed to run on such a low powered device. It ended up being pretty slow after a while, and HTC Messaging client didn't help much either. I went from my iPAQ, which booted completely in just under 15 seconds, to my Rhodium, which took a whopping 150 seconds (2.5 minutes) to boot into a usable state. I know there were several mitigating factors to attribute this with, but it was still a PITA.
I finally decided to flash my first custom ROM after reading about it for a couple of weeks. I picked NRGZ28's Energy ROM in the regular Energy flavor. I did that a few times, and soon realized that I was developing ORD. I played around with all of his different themes. I learned how to properly backup my device, and restore it. I learned how much I had fallen in love with the GTX theme. I even found the perfect radio for me in my area. It was a wonderful time for me.
The best part was that now I could actually assist users here on this site. Before then, I didn't have the knowledge to assist in much. Now, I had my business and education to propel me into this service along with the valuable information I gained from this site. I continued showing others "the light" for a while, and finally decided to give the Leo a try after having to replace my Rhodium so often do to sliding keyboard issues.
I use my Leo almost everyday now. The horse power is plenty enough to keep it moving in this increasingly hardware driven market. It runs nearly a dozen different operating systems. It blazes through most of the computing tasks I give it, and doesn't even blink at any program or app I throw its way. However, it isn't without flaws. The sound quality is severely lacking, as is the call quality. A lack of keyboard hurts, but Swype is a decent compromise. The battery life is nowhere near the two days I used to get from my Rhodium, but it gets me through the day, at least. I've just learned to always have a spare battery on hand, just in case.
That's my story here. What's yours?
I first came to XDA trying to root my Epic. Since then I have abused the firmware in any way I can trying to learn how things are done. I've had my epic since January and since then I have rooted, installed custom ROMs/Kernels and even Linux Ubuntu/Backtrack on my phone. This may very well be the best website ever.
I came to XDA about a year ago to root my incredible and put some custom roms on my phone.
It is a shame that the devs I that were in the Inc a year ago have left. Ihtfp, heyitslou, RMK...
While operation iron fist is a good 1st step, the Inc section has turned into the wild west with little mod intervention.
The reason I am posting this... the OP came in and modded some threads while on point, I felt was disrespectful to the spirit and users emotions over a percieved injustice to one of OUR devs. While this post may be greeted with disdain and hate, the fact remains XDAs problems are greater than the users.
Peace

I came to XDA after getting an HTC Hero CDMA for free. I hated Sense, and Sprint/HTC dropped the Hero support FAST leaving us with stale software.
I was amazed at the knowledage here, but was always afraid to register because everyone seemed to know what they were doing and I didn't want to be "that noob" that everyone seems to dread. So I was a lurker. I'd download ROMs, but never provide feedback or ask questions. I'd read, get used to Android terminology, etc. With solid computer knowledge under my belt I could fix most simple issues or figure it out myself.
Then things changed somewhat and the place became 4chan. I kept myself from registering yet again. Sometime early 2011 I had to visit my companies main office in Switzerland. I was away from XDA and my HTC EVO (sold my HeroC). I came back about two weeks ago and finally got settled in. I saw the IRON FIST posting the other day and for the first time I felt comfortable posting and being a member. I've learned alot and feel that I can help out and hopefully shake out some lurkers and get them to register and help as well.
Lurkers unite.

It would just be nice if more newer users shared your point of view. Glad to have you with us now.
I have also been a "lurker" following development threads for my phone. I have downloaded R0Ms and have reached a stage where I feel I can make some useful contribution. However, I am stuck with the minimum 10-posting rule
I first found XDA a long time before i actually signed up , was a lurker for a long time, just browsing and viewing threads getting tips etc, only joined in 2009 i think it was when i got my touch diamond and became hooked the people were friendly and help full, then i progressed on to the HD2 and it was all great until prob last summer and i just got fed up of this place, it turned into a n00b fest ok fine everyone has to start somewhere, we all do, but everyone in that section just turned into complete ass hats including my self because day after day countless threads of "help" "did i brick my device" nobody reads any more,I will admit i did it the first day i got my hd2 i messed up real bad from not reading.
But this site is just getting worse now threads being closed people calling hell outta each other, ill even admit i have been a twat today for someone asking how to back up there contacts on android, (sorry just cut your hands off).
The site used to be great used to be a place were you could pop along find something you need and read and learn from it, now even the xda search feature is a waste of time. You cant find the info you need any more unless you no where to look,
Recently got myself the SGS2 (amazing device) gotta say the most miserable unhelpful twats ive ever come across in a device section, I dont no maybe there all just bored of the same thing in and out but most dont have that many posts and are *****ing at each other, then you come across chainfire that guy is a frigging genius he gets so many reply to his cf-root thread im surprised he can keep up its crazy and he gives no trouble, then look at Hacre who created the Ninphetamine kernel for the sgs2 post 5 i will admit is the FUNNIEST thing i have ever read in my life but he makes the whole point about what is happening to this site, its getting worse everyday.
I used to love this site for the way people helped and im not the greatest but i did my fair share of helping in the hd2 section and now i just cba to visit the forum because of the way people get treated, yeah im just one member that dont care any more and i no it doesn't make a difference to the website because it has so many members but thats my problem it seems there is no respect for anyone on here any more.
just my two cents
Um, I discovered XDA in August 2010 trying to find a way to improve my Wildfire. Before I joined (registered), I did a lot of reading and I discovered true charms of Android. Since then I'm every-day visitor, not a developer, just a user though... But I'm proud because I'm a member in a community like XDA is. Not to forget, I got some knowledge about mobile OS' (Android and WM) over the months so I'm contributing the community by helping people. XDA for the win!

If you could say somthing to this guy what would you say to him?

http://davesays.wordpress.com/2012/05/26/windows-phone-sucks/
That he is perfectly entitled to his opinion oh and that he is a complete tool
Its very easy to sum up windows phone in 24hours took me ages to actually work out all the functions and am still surprised by ones I don't know about today, Fan-boys will always be exactly that and he is probably too stubborn to admit anything different from what he is familiar with, As I said a complete tool with no imagination for change or willingness to accept anything other than his comforts, Sheepish behaviour we are all too familiar with these days.
I agree - he was offered an evaluation for 30 days but sent the phone back after 1 day. I don't think he went into the evaluation with an open mind.
Also, his site says "I am NOT an average man ... I enjoy quality cutlery and firearms." Not someone I'd particularly want to argue with
I can sum it up with three words - "get a life".

Err, given your inability to say anything in an objective manor it doesn’t surprise me you have had difficulties adjusting to Windows Phone. It is different, ergo you need to learn. Let me say that again in case it didn’t sink in, Windows Phone is different to an iPhone, and Android, there for YOU have to LEARN.
The fact you ditched it after only a day, the fact you write like a teenage fan-boy and finally the fact that you haven’t been objective from the very first words that littered your blog here tells me and any other sane mature individual that you shouldn’t be doing such reviews any more, its a waste of energy, a waste of time and worst of all, its just plain inaccurate FUD.
Dont give up the day job son, or more likely, get your arse back to school.

I'd say nothing...never mess with keyboard gangstas, the simple fact that they have a blog just in order to share their worthless and arrogant words about things with complete strangers over the web means that they have some huge ego, which they don't show in real life because they're weak and they would get their arse smashed dealing with real people with real cohones. And they all work in IT, yeah right...

Gangsta? If momma has to pick you up at school or you have to ride the bus to work, you ain't no gangsta. I agree wholeheartedly with the rest of your post, good work.
At first I'd write myseld in rage.. I hate "kids" like this, people that idotic reviews of a new product with the conclusen it's ****ty because it's not like all the other comparable products. I mean only because Anroid looks like iOS, WP hast to do it too? Sure after one day, he knows everything about the Device. And if he'd really want a good navigation software, he'd purchased Navigon (or whatever it's called). Maybe then, maybe later I'd recognise what I'm doing and that there is no point in doing so, because attention is what he wants, and I'd delete my text again.
Afterall I argree with vnvman!

You can tap to focus the camera... IT focuses where you tap then takes the picture. Why the hell would you focus on something if you were not going to take the damn picture, omg. And you can set it so you don't accidently press the camera buttons in settings. This guy is complete BS.
Xbox games are seperate also Only acheivements are stored for prosterity. IT's not like you can't play one game without playing another.
I'd rather only the time be shown then using the ripp off from android for the notification center.
He complains about MS renaming yet he loves apple that decided not the call the ipad 3 nothing else but the "Ipad". What a marketing mess. WHich ipad do you own? You know i have the ipad. The new or old? I don't know just says ipad.
People like this piss me off.
I don't mind the iphone or android but when they say things that aren't true about other platforms they don't understand, it gets to me.

Frankly if I were to ever speak to him I would say I'm glad you have freedom of speech wherever you live and thank you for not posting to the Windows Phone section of XDA. The guys over in the Andriod section of this forum may be cursing Windows Phone every day. I don't know about it because I don't read that section. To each there own. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion... even if I think their opinion is really dumb. It only bothers me if they keep shoving it in my face for no apparent reason when they don't have anything else to contribute to the platform.

Hardly a proper app, have you read the reviews? Charging for crap like this probably does more harm than good to the 'platform'.
"doesnt retain info ...waste of money"
"Rip off. Author is a thief. This is a wrapper for free websites, nothing more than a bookmark. Until a proper app is released, just go to united.com.
"This app sucks"
"Worthless app. Doesn't retain data or keep you logged in. The website is much more user friendly."
"Absolute waste of money. Use the mobile website and you will get a better experience."
Not exactly the best example to defend WP!
As others have already mentioned, this guy is a complete tool.
*No receipt scanning app - I use HandyScan and I love it.
*Populating People Hub with crap contacts from hotmail account - Well... that's what you get for not maintaining your hotmail contacts better. I set a friend up, a few weeks ago, with her first smart phone... the Lumia 710. On her RAZR, she had all her phone numbers. On her hotmail account, she had all her email addresses. Have to manually merge the two. A lengthy, but necessary process that only has to happen once. That this guy can't keep his contacts in good order is clearly NOT my problem.
*Camera functions suck - Yes, there is no question that the iPhone 4s has an amazing camera with good funtionality. Actually using it though is a complete PITA. I was teaching a few friends how to select focus and exposure points on their iPhones. So much work with pressing and long pressing. Oh, and I can't stand having to press the software button to snap the photo. I'm constantly hitting the home button instead of the shutter. It's remarkably awkward and unintuitive. This, however, is only my opinion based upon the fact that I've never own an iPhone and never well, but am quite skilled in how to actually use one.
If the guy doesn't want his Hotmail contacts to show up, it only takes a couple of steps to filter which contacts show up. Using the phone one day, he never gave it a chance.

yes, but he did say there was "none"
Actually i would have used skyscanner or something else but he was saying one specific brand was not there.
As a regular consumer, who cares about what he says.
His false opinions are his own.
For gods sake judging by how he wrote this so-called "review" labels him as an iOS sheep and Android bridge troll, what a goddamn fcking retard.
I laughed so hard at this chaps apparent inability to take on new tech, he really does come across as being a pre teen keyboard warrior.
I for one am glad he doesnt like the OS, WP7 is better off without people who cannot count the amount of appendages they posess.

For those of you that don't remember me, I released the midNIGHT ROM back on the Epic 4G and the EpicTouch 4G. The purpose of the release was to bring Autism Awareness to the Android community. As the father to 3 boys on the Autism Spectrum, spreading awareness is my mission. It worked amazingly well. Even now, there are Autism Awareness banners in peoples signatures and that's awesome.
Anyway, I retired after the Epic Touch 4G because things with my family demanded all of my time and energy.
I never stopped tinkering but never released anything publicly. I decided that I would throw my hat in one last time and release what I've been using, in case anyone is interested. I have also re-branded the ROM from midNIGHT to Android4Autism, as this is a project I began awhile ago. The mission of Android4Autism is to show the community that you don't need a overpriced iPad to help your child with developmental disabilities like Autism, to communicate with and navigate their world.
What does this ROM include?
This is a basic ROM based on the Deodexed L900VPALJC OTA by joshbeach and is geared for people who don't want anything heavily modded and or tweaked. I prefer simple and clean to heavily themed. This is a very stock ROM, nothing fancy.

Instructions:
This ROM does not wipe your DATA.
SUPER IMPORTANT: Always back up prior to flashing any ROM. Things happen and it's nice to have a backup to recover from.
1) Copy ROM to your internal memory or SD card.
2) Boot into TWRP and Flash. Learn something about Autism while the ROM installs.
-------If you experience issues, wipe everything and re-flash.
I have not tested this with CWM but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Autism Education
This is directly from Autism Speaks
What is Autism?
Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). The other pervasive developmental disorders are PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not
Otherwise Specified), Asperger’s Syndrome, Rett Syndrome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. Many parents and professionals refer to this group as Autism Spectrum Disorders.
How common is Autism?
Today, it is estimated that one in every 88 children is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. An estimated 1.5 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide are affected by autism. Government statistics suggest the prevalence rate of autism is increasing 10-17 percent annually. There is not established explanation for this increase, although improved diagnosis and environmental influences are two reasons often considered. Studies suggest boys are more likely than girls to develop autism and receive the diagnosis three to four times more frequently. Current estimates are that in the United States alone, 1 out of 54 boys is diagnosed with autism.
What causes Autism?
The simple answer is we don’t know. The vast majority of cases of autism are idiopathic, which means the cause is unknown.
The more complex answer is that just as there are different levels of severity and combinations of symptoms in autism, there are probably multiple causes. The best scientific evidence available to us today points toward a potential for various combinations of factors causing autism – multiple genetic components that may cause autism on their own or possibly when combined with exposure to as yet undetermined environmental factors. Timing of exposure during the child’s development (before, during or after birth) may also play a role in the development or final presentation of the disorder.
A small number of cases can be linked to genetic disorders such as Fragile X, Tuberous Sclerosis, and Angelman’s Syndrome, as well as exposure to environmental agents such as infectious ones (maternal rubella or cytomegalovirus) or chemical ones (thalidomide or valproate) during pregnancy.
There is a growing interest among researchers about the role of the functions and regulation of the immune system in autism – both within the body and the brain. Piecemeal evidence over the past 30 years suggests that autism may involve inflammation in the central nervous system. There is also emerging evidence from animal studies that illustrates how the immune system can influence behaviors related to autism. Autism Speaks is working to extend awareness and investigation of potential immunological issues to researchers outside the field of autism as well as those within the autism research community.
While the definitive cause (or causes) of autism is not yet clear, it is clear that it is not caused by bad parenting. Dr. Leo Kanner, the psychiatrist who first described autism as a unique condition in 1943, believed that it was caused by cold, unloving mothers. Bruno Bettelheim, a renowned professor of child development perpetuated this misinterpretation of autism. Their promotion of the idea that unloving mothers caused their children’s autism created a generation of parents who carried the tremendous burden of guilt for their children’s disability.
In the 1960s and 70s, Dr. Bernard Rimland, the father of a son with autism, who later founded the Autism Society of America and the Autism Research Institute, helped the medical community understand that autism is not caused by cold parents but rather is a biological disorder.

10 Things My #Autistic Kids Wished You Knew
Written by me, Rob Gorski (Lost and Tired) about and dedicated to my three amazingly beautiful children.
1. I’m sorry I have fits but I’m not a spoiled brat. I’m just so much younger on the inside than I am on the outside.
2. I’m easily overwhelmed because I see and hear everything. I hear the lights hum and clock tick. Everything is so loud it makes my head hurt all the time and my eyes hurt from all the bright lights.
3. I’m not stupid, I’m actually very smart. I just don’t learn the way you want me to. Please learn about Autism so you know how to help me better understand what you are trying to teach.
4. Please don’t be mad at mommy and daddy because we don’t come over for holidays or birthdays. They really want to go but I don’t do well at another person’s house. It’s too overwhelming for me and they know that. They don’t go because they love me, NOT because they don’t like you.
5. Please have patience with me. I try really hard to make good decisions but I can be very impulsive at times.
6. Yes, I have Autism but that doesn't mean I’m less of a person because of it. If anything, I’m actually more of a person in spite of it.
7. My house might be messy sometimes. It’s because my mommy and daddy spend all their time trying to find new ways to help me or teach my brother to talk..
8. Just because I can’t talk doesn't mean I don’t understand what you are saying. My feelings can be hurt just like yours.
9. I wish my mommy and daddy knew how much I love them. I have a really hard time with emotions and I don’t always like to be touched. But I love them more than anything in the world, even more then my Lego’s.
10. I know I can be frustrating but don’t tell me I won’t amount to anything because I have Autism. If you love and support me I WILL do great things in my life in spite of my challenges.

Ptfdmedic, this is awesome. Thanks for this I've never seen something like this before. Your doing this for an awesome cause and I thank you again for taking your time to raise awareness for such an important concern that commonly gets overlooked. !

Just all that was wondering. Love your Rom and your purpose man! Definitely remember you from the e4gt!.

Alright. The link is live in the OP. The ROM is hosted on the server for my blog. I just had to upgrade servers again as I'm getting almost 2,000,000 hits a month on my blog. I now have unlimited bandwidth so have at it and let me know if you have any problems.
Remember, this is a pretty simply ROM with a few mods and tweaks and all the ugly orange an yellow removed from the theme. If you're looking for something more elaborate, you may want to look elsewhere.
This is what I am personally using and I just wanted to share and give something back, all while spreading some Autism Awareness.
I don't consider myself a super talented developer. I do this for fun, in my free time.
Thanks everyone.
Hi, I'm k0nane. You might know me as k0nane.
Watch for mirrors in the morning, this ROM is on the mirror network.
Wait, did I actually contribute something useful to someone's ROM thread this time? I usually just spam up ecooce's place...

Kickstarter Project to fund all development for Android and Windows CE devices starts 2/22/2013 | This is a private venture, not a corporate effort.
THIS IS A CALL FOR HELP FROM ANY AND ALL AUTOMOTIVE LOVERS AND DEVELOPERS FOR HELP TO GET THIS FINISHED.
There will be a job posting on XDA this week with more info.
What is ELA?
Full Video and Demo
ELA is a downloadable touch screen interface on your Android Device or WinCE Hardware that makes the hardware easier to use while in a moving vehicle.
E – Elegant
L – Logical
A – Adaptive
Touch screen systems in cars have become either so difficult to use or don’t have the features needed to keep the current crop of tech drivers happy. Automotive manufacturers don’t have the resources or desire to create open source setups as of yet to make the cars we are driving today updatable or upgradable for the life of the car. The design and concepts of ELA were created by the automotive enthusiasts with a focus on ease of use. The UI (User Interface) is designed to be for the novice or hard core geeks.
Why?
Because there is so much the android platform can offer for next to no cost. The features that we can add to our vehicles is endless, keeping the tech in the car relevant while not having to spent more on the factory options for NAV etc. that will be out dated in just a year or two.
Features:
Fluid elegant interface
Large easy to access icons and layout for moving vehicles
Designed around most proposed federal safety standards
Gesture support
Simply and intuitive operation with little or no knowledge tech knowledge required
Extensive and exhaustive customization ability
All android functionality intact, no handicaps
History:
Design Started 2 years ago and has reached the level where demand has out stripped the capabilities of one person.
5000 Windows CE Downloads for Hyundai Veloster

Whether or not you want to help or not with the project I'd like feedback.
The XDA community is probably one of the most hard core, so I value all opinions.
Does this have any Bluetooth OBDII options? If so I would like to try it. Think you can just attach the beta version here?
*Edit - I see in the video that it does have OBDII options.

I will post up the beta versions on here for sure, just need to get the initial work done. Yes the OBD2/BT support is all dependent on your tablet you use.
Which basically every Android device for the most part does not have any issues with. Nexus 7 obviously does but that's more with Audio.
I love the look of it. It makes me want to make a mount for it in my car
It's going to be a lot of work to garner the support have to raise awareness. I think car people once they see it will want it.
Here are two more quick themed looks:
Re: [Q] ELA Automotive UI | Pre-Release
Having wasted money before on a kickstarter software project (hint: learn about the Chameleon Android launcher fiasco) I'd warn folks away from supporting them via kickstarter.
That said it does look like a great concept and I hope it develops into a real product.

What do you think the best way of doing it or getting support/hiring is?
I have never had such a hard time gather developers for a project before.

I'll stick with my carpc before hacking my N7 into use as an automotive media system.

I can't offer any useful advice and do hope you can find folks somehow. The old fashioned way of going door to door to venture capital people with a business plan is fine for a small business but it's total overkill for the type of thing you want to do so I can really understand the appeal of what kickstarter offers.
I just learned the hard way about kickstarter. You can't get any money back because the site itself in the fine print explicitly spells out that nothing is guaranteed. And the site people don't seem to provide any policing of projects. I assume it's because they make their money by taking a cut of the funds pledged.
As long as the people pledging funds realize that the money can just as easily be spent on an overseas vacation as for the actual reason being pledged and that there are no guarantees at all I don't have any objection to the idea. And I've seen some good projects but they were all material based not intellectual based.
If I saw an honest appeal for a software or even a hardware based project that relied on software that said something along the lines of "we are going to try this but it may be a complete flop" in their appeal I'd be more willing to support kickstarter projects. Obviously it wouldn't be as blunt as what I offered but I'm just looking for a bit more honesty about projects. A pledge of even $20-30 shouldn't break most people's bank so it's not a major deal. But I really dislike feeling like I've been a sucker.

That is very helpful thanks for that insight. This seems to be the hardest part of all of this. I am trying to gather as much interest and support from people before getting down to the nitty gritty of that.

You are not really hacking it, its just a straight install you don't even need root.
And when you pull it out of the car you can easily go back to the N7 UI or whatever tablet UI you use.
Seems like a good idea. Can't do anything else but tell you to keep up the good work and hope you get what you need.
I wish you the best of luck with this. I just got a N7 today and will be doing a custom fiberglass mount into my car so I can mainly utilize Google Music and not have to transfer music all the time. I saw the ELA project and it looks amazing. Hopefully this evolves into something awesome!
Thanks for the support, I hope it works out and helps everyone who uses Android in their car,
Been following development on the g+ page, hopefully you can get people on board that are able to assist. Perhaps speaking to one of the Mods/Admins and see if a "call for Developers" can be made on the front page. I don't know but i think this is a great concept not only for the car but i see it useful in the home as a media center ui. Too bad i don't code or i would've jumped at the chance to help out.Good luck!!
Great idea. I'm a big car person. Unfortunately not a developer, I would love be your beta tester and give u feedback. Is it still alive? Haven't seen any update
It looks like this project may be dead. It's possible the dev was not able to continue due to personal or other reasons.

I had paid 2 devs to help with the project and they did not get to where I wanted it. After dumping that money and still not getting anymore help, I have backed off. Seems like there is a good user base who wants it but it aint free to do,

And why don't you put the code for experienced people continue this fantastic job?
Don't let it die. A lot of car android based head units are coming ( including using phones or tv sticks on pioneer appradios by mirroring)
