I am rooted but have not tried any custom roms yet. Do you have to have a custom rom to use a theme? For example this theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913576
Kinda... you more or less need to be on a de-odexed rom to easily apply custom themes, which means a rom other than the stock odexed rom.
Although, if you follow the instructions in THIS thread, you can do it on a stock odexed rom (usefull if you want to use MobileAP or such).
And there is a stock deodexed di18 rom out there somehwere.
But you pretty much need to flash something that is deodexed to have an easy time of it.

I am pretty sure you can always either have a odexed or de-odexed rom, not both at the same time.

If I remember correctly you can decide in the kitchen whether to deodex apps, framework or both.
So, if you use a stock rom as base and you deodex framework, you will obtain a rom with odexed apps and deodexed framework.
In my case however I went the other way around. I had a completely deodexed gingerwally and I decided to odex system/app in the subsequent version. So, I just went to system/app and odexed all apks manually (with dexopt-wrapper, zip, and zipalign).
Note that for some reason some other devs at xda suggest not to mix odexed and deodexed apks in a ROM.
Imho I don't see any reason why not to do it.

ok i have managed to odex the dapps, reinstalled but they dnt show in my rom, no message app, now i didnt zipalign maybe this is why?
whenever i try to just odex the apps in the kitchen i get boot loops,
but i read somewhere u can odex the apps before the framework?

You guys using smali\baksmali? In the case of ICS, which folders should be deodexed for a custom rom?
I just deodexed stock rom using dsixda Kitchen and flashed it.Everything normal at first but sometimes some apps force close.What may be the cause of that???
I think we dont have deodexed rom(latest lolipop) for galaxy, and ithink xposed modules work better on deoxdexed rom than on ODexed ones. So want to deodex my stock rom. Anybody can piont me to the rite direction and also how safe is it to do the same. I dont have any coding experiance. But i know how to flash roms and stuff.
