Why would we have any more information than that the VLC team released themselves. It is not out and even though I run windows 8 on a full x86 desktop I actually cannot wait for it to be out

Yeah, I'm wondering for same. Some apps already implemented. mkv support in their Video Players but still I want to see what VLC has in its pipeline for windowsRT and WP8.

no news about the project

Um, what? They released an update about the project just yesterday. I can understand not paying attention, but why come complain here without even checking?

The things that I find most interesting are the changes to mingw to support MSVCRT 11 and (hopefully, presumably) also support ARM with Windows. That could make it a lot easier to port other open-source programs which traditionally compile only under GCC. This could lead to a large new wave of ported apps, including games (I'd live to play Battle for Wesnoth on my tablet, for example).

vs project for vlc:https://github.com/sunqueen
I am able to compile it but it doesnt work on my pc.

imho, this topic should be treated as spam and advert.
who's interested knows about 10.1 for MONTHS.
Authors and their satellites arent helping popularity of that project with having worst site, worst forum and worst support in whole internet(or maybe it changed since 2nd rel of 0.10..).
Also, where is freeware(no-saves) version for 0.10.1, hm?
This is what i am talking about.
Emulator's good, though, it wipes out every ps1 emus for other portable systems immediately(i do not count Pandora, there's no concurrency there).

microsoft silverlight on android (i.e. moonlight)?

Hey guys. I thought of trying to watch a netflix movie on the phone. Used dolphin browser on desktop mode and it got me to the play screen, but then netflix told me I needed silverlight...i clicked to download that and of course I get a .exe file.
I searched and did not see an apk for silverlight...is there anything similar that will trigger playback of media that requires silverlight?
Or maybe better but highly doubtful, is there a release of silverlight for android?
If no to the above, anybody working on a fix for this? Got hulu working, now let's get netflix going!
Swyped from my HTC Evo 4G on the MetroPCS 1X network!
Quite simple, nope. Microsoft claims Silverlight is too big for Android (and given that it's a Microsoft POS... Yeah, I'm inclined to agree).
Netflix has said they're going to be coming out with an Android app "soon," since they released iPad and iPhone apps.
and there is no way to get at the stream directly from outside the silverlight environment with an app similar to the hulu app?
I know netflix hired an android dev recently but I wonder how long the turnaround time will be for the app...
Swyped from my HTC Evo 4G on the MetroPCS 1X network!
Where is this Hulu app?? I cannot find it..
its under themes & apps a page or two in...
what about moonlight? I installed the sdk and saw a demo app that played a silverlight video. how come noone has developed this further?!
Swyped from my HTC Evo 4G on the MetroPCS 1X network!
Unfortunately, no, you can't get it outside of Silverlight. Silverlight is required for the DRM that Netflix uses to prevent you from downloading movies (a la YouTube). The sole exception is the devices which have Netflix support (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, etc.) which in turn have their own strong DRM, and encrypt the stream.
makes sense.
damn I guess we're stuck until the app gets released...whenever that is!

Where is this app? I looked when it was mentioned but didn't see it. Does it actually work?

I call BS, no one from Microsoft said this. SL is one the main programming languages in Windows Phone 7 (I've been a SL dev since version 1.1 alpha) and runs on pretty comparable Android hardware just fine.
It's a simple decision to not support Linux. SL supports the Mac and Windows platform and pays licenses for every copy downloaded because of some commercial media codecs they're using in the runtime. Linux support has been relegated to Novel who support Silverlight through the Mono/Moonlight project, and they provide their own codec alternatives to get around the licensing issues.
Silverlight is a very fast moving tech, in the last 3 major releases, an average 8 out of 10 top developer requested features were implemented by the Silverlight teams at Microsoft. Right now, the #1 requested feature for the next version, by far, is greater platform support:
http://dotnet.uservoice.com/forums/4325-silverlight-feature-suggestions
In the old Windows Mobile world Skyfire was a way to view full Flash and Silverlight content, but alas their Android version currently doesn't support this.
http://blog.netflix.com/2010/11/netflix-on-android.html
Greg Peters, of Netflix, announced that select android phones will be getting Netflix streaming early next year. It's "select" because the android platform does not have a common DRM solution, and Netflix's content providers require it in order to allow streaming media. The "select" phones have not been announced, and Greg Peters said that they unfortunately have to work with manufacturers on a phone by phone basis in order to get the required DRM.
All I know is, if you have Sprint TV, which you should if you have an Evo (I have an Epic myself), Sprint's very own version of DRM is baked in. If Netflix has been talking to Samsung and Sprint to get instant streaming on the Sprint Android phones, we may already have what we need in order to get it (when it finally comes out, that is).
I'm just mad that WP7 had Netflix at launch. On another note iPhone's get all the love and priority. That's one thing I miss about my iPhone, the apps.
I'm thinking of buying an iPod Touch and using that for Netflix via Wifi Tether. I talk to a lot of Netflix higher ups and never get a chance to ask them about it.

Looks like the Mono/Moonlight team are working on porting Moonlight to Android phones. They had a demo at Mix11 (I'd link you to the blog post I just saw about it, but I guess I need to post more often to be allowed to link to outside sources).
Just Google for "jeffrey stedfast moonlight android" and it should be the first match.
Mono developers were laid off... no more .net for linux for a long while...
Do we have moonlight already on Android?

Android 4.3 has been annonced!

Quote
Android 4.3 has officially been announced – it's been in the wild on Google Play Edition devices for a while, but the unveiling was put off for today. So, what's new? Well, 4.3 is a minor upgrade so it brings minor improvements and refines the user experience, rather than delivering game-changing features.
Multi-user support was introduced in 4.2 and it's updated in 4.3 with the new restricted profiles. A restricted profile can limit what content and apps can be used – even limit in-app stuff like what levels of a game can be played.
The suite of stock apps has been updated - Hangouts now officially replaces Talk and Keep is available out of the box. The Drive, Chrome and Maps applications have been revamped too.
The way Android handles notifications has been changed too. For one, you can view your notification history. Also, third party apps have access to notifications, which will help smart watches and apps that sync notifications across devices.
There are plenty of changes under the hood too. OpenGL ES 3.0 is now supported (Google presented impressive improvements in 3D game graphics) and the graphics stack should be faster overall. For games, Google unveiled the Google Play Games app, which lets you keep track of what your friends are playing and a leader board of achievements in the game.
The "master key" exploit has been incorporated into Android 4.3, of course.
Bluetooth 4.0 with Low Energy mode (low power usage and longer range for low-bandwidth accessories like those fitness tracking gadgets) is now supported in stock Android. Before, each maker had to roll its own drivers. Also for Bluetooth, AVRCP 1.3 is supported, meaning the phone can stream metadata about the currently playing song to the wireless speakers (or your car's stereo).
Wi-Fi can be kept on at all times to determine your position, even when you toggle it off.
A new hardware-based encryption for DRM has been added so content providers will be more willing to stream high-quality content. A new Netflix app is among the first to make use of this and streams 1080p video (it's now available in the Play Store).
An Android 4.3 update will be available on Nexus devices from the Galaxy Nexus up (4, 7, 10, you name it). Google Play devices - Galaxy S4 and Nexus One Google Play Edition will get the update soon too.

Wonder if erickas or maclaw are gonna make 4.3 Android?

Well yes, but I did see somewhere information that it will be faster and will be better on battery life because of the new BT stuff. However yes it was on this thread too i think
Not sure about that too cuz the bluetooth battery saver might be only for bt 4.0 unless the things are ported

Just back to hoping for kernel 3+ and a non-laggy or less-laggy than CM10, since CM10 is much smoother than CM10.1

The game has mappable controls so I see no reason why the wouldn't work with the Nvidia Shield. Its an awesome game that has been ported to many platforms including the Dreamcast and GP2x.

Interesting, I hadn't heard of this one. I've been hoping Paintown would release a new Android version, but I'm not sure what the development status is on it (they had an android version at one point, but wanted to switch to different underlying libraries to provide better support or something).

Dude this brings me back, I haven't heard of or played BOR since the PSP homebrew days, thanks xD

I use OpenBOR on shield and I can confirm it works fine. Just grab the last version available which is pretty old but it works fine.

This is great. Thank you. It works well on my m8. After i root my shield I'll be installing it. Now that hyperspin is available for Android, i can run it from there!
Does anyone know how i can remap the keys? It does not work with the shield controller. Only the directional and one button which access sound samples work. Using the keyboard works. I cannot find a settings file anywhere.

[Q] stream/xbmc torrent crashing.... alternatives?

im using stickmount to mount my 1tb hard drive. opening stream and xbmc plays the movie for about 10 mins (tried ninja turtles, frozen, and 22 jump street) and then just returns to the stream / xbmc torrent screen to select another movie. if i select the same movie or a different one, it will load, but then just crash the whole OS (reboot)
any fixes to this? or any alternatives ?
im using SPMC, latest version (kodi wouldnt work with this app)
I've posted a few reports for this in the past, I too would like an alternative for these addons.
As far as I know, both projects are dead.
A speculation was made in the last post about a possible reason for the crash.
There is a new fork called Pulsar, no Android version available yet but I think they are working on it...
Ahh Thank you. It's a shame. This add-on works perfect on pc
