[FlashableZIP][SCRIPT] LAGFIX v3 - FIX LOW SPACE CAUSING LAG! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all. I recently bought this device and this is my first post in galaxy nexus section
Some people may know that when our phone goes out of memory (under 2/3gb of free space) it becomes very laggy (https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=43081)...
what i have done is just put a couple of solution in one script that will be executed on boot (a init.d script)
so.... if your phone is slow and you have a lot of file in internal memory just flash this... it should be compatible with every rom (with the follow requirements) and every kernel
and let me know if this works for you, thanks
REQUIREMENTS:
- init.d scripts support
- root
DOWNLOAD v3: http://www.mediafire.com/?uu5e8clyp4z3dy9
NOTE:
- you must reflash the zip after every rom update (like gapps...)
- you can find log of the script (is the script working? how long is taking?) in /data/local/tmp/lagfix_log
- seems the some eMMC chips (like VYL00M and VLY00M) take more then a minute to execute the script; mine (V3U00M) takes about 5 seconds. Anyway less free space on device means more time to execute the script on boot, but i think that it worths the wait
- if you want to UNINSTALL the script just flash the uninstaller zip v3: http://www.mediafire.com/?adr32vbbd41w303 (and post there if something went wrong with the script, thanks )

Anyone flash this?

no seriously, some kernel already include this fix (but not all, for example franco kernel doesn't include it). so if you are experiencing lags and have a lot of files in internal memory just flash this... will solve your problem
this is basically what the script does:
Code:
mount -o remount,discard /data
mount -o remount,discard /cache
fstrim -v /data
fstrim -v /cache

Lagfix Zip,....
Hello Everyone,...I am a Toro+ user. I am "rocking" the latest AOSPAL 3.60 ROM and KUBO r50 AK Kernel. I flashed your script,....it took and flashed well. I noticed a little more "snappyness" in my UI and I don't get the slow wakes on my device. I have been using this script for a few hours. I like it so far. But, I will keep you posted if any changes or any more progress. I am only giving my opinion on the ROM and Kernel I am running on my device.

thanks for the info waiting for more opinions!

Been using it all day so far.... Seems Like it does make a difference! Possibly placebo but I like it either way!! Thanks!

Does a person have to reflash after each rom install, say for example using the cm nightly updater?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Yes because the zip install 2 files in /system
When you update the rom the system partition is wiped... So yes you have to flash again when you update rom
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

v2 out
changelog:
- removed fstrim binary file (because it's included in busybox and it may create problem with some roms)
- added script log file in /data/local/tmp/lagfix_log
enjoy

Or you can use lagfix on playstore...
Envoyé depuis mon Transformer en utilisant Tapatalk 4 Beta

Would you mind to add an uninstall .zip?

Yes but lagfix does only the last part of the script (the fstrim) and it doesn't trim on boot. My script also mount data and cache in discard mode, so you virtually don't need any trim

Giving this a try on Toro AOSPA Beta 4, going to see if it cures a couple hiccups I have. So far I've noticed improvement when opening Chrome browser, which was a big annoyance for me. I'll run this for another day and see how it comes along.

Sure I will do, anyway you just need to delete /system/etc/init.d/90lagfix (and if want also /data/local/tmp/lagfix_log but it's only a stupid log file)

I've noticed my screen wakes and unlocks much faster and smoother. I've also noticed that the couple apps that were causing me redraws no longer do so. So far so good, I still want to keep testing for like a day without reboot though.

Many thanks for your feedback, seems that this thing works

[ROM][PORT] Ace of Spades v3 (warez free)

Hello everyone
I ported Ace Of Spades v3 by Trent from Ace to our Gio.
The rom is made for speed, super stability, customization, general use and battery performance.
This rom is just a port, so everything is not so good as it supposed to be, however I think it’s a very nice rom, and you should test it!
This user is banned from XDA because there are warez in the AOS rom’s. So I had to change some things, so rom is warez free.
Changes I made:
Replaced ADW ex for ADW
Replaced Root browser for Root browser lite (outdated)
Replaced Root browser lite for stock CM7 File Manager (More pure Cyanogen)
Deleted a Torch-App, because Gio doesn’t have a flasher D:
Working and not:
Everything works, but if you find bug, pm me.
Link to original thread:
I’m not gonna give your the link, cauze thread is partially removed.
Howto:
Read on Trent’s post, but you can use ANY recovery, not only CWM.
Thanks:
Trent -> Rom
Phiexz -> Kernel

Trent’s Post:
Description
Ace Of Spades is one of the highly preferred android systems.
Read the how-to or else you'll think the rom is playing up on first boot!
This System is designed for
1. Speed
2. Super Stability
3. Customization
4. General Use
5. Battery Performance
I've spent weeks, months purely modifying the system for performance whilst having the best battery life. I can guarantee the speed and the battery at the same time will impress.
This release has a blue over glow effect, Ice Cream Sandwich icons/animations and the Ice Cream Sandwich Status Bar. The backgrounds when [/SIZE]in apps (Like gallery, contacts, settings etc.) are transparent.
I've added A2SD and I've included the A2SDGUI App in the ROM.
This rom is so highly customizable and stable, I've never used anyone else's rom for general use, I started developing roms so i could have a stable rom whilst being fast and efficient for social networking, gaming etc.
The System has an ultimate edit of the blackhawk kernel implemented into the rom. I have my own edits of the libs and files which all work together to make one stable, high quality system. I've based the System on 2.3.7, I've compiled the system directly from cyanogenmod github (It's pure cyanogenmod, No edit of anyone else's rom)
How-to
You need ClockWorkMod installed
Reboot into ClockWorkMod Recovery, wipe data, wipe cache
Flash the .zip from the Downloads section (below) from clockwork recovery.
Reboot your phone (first boot will take some time, reboot twice for optimal performance)
Listen carefully! LET the rom do its thing when you install it, it'll reboot a couple of times (This is my script finalizing) It'll work like normal after the first boot.

FAQ
Q. Superuser Binary update says FAIL.... What do?
A. Don't panic. Apps can still be Granted Root Permission. Just leave Superuser alone.
Q. Can I use a2sd or int2ext or any other *2*?
A. Yes. Do so at you own risk. I didn't add anything like that because not everybody likes the same thing, read below.
For Int2Ext

Was just out of the house and noticed a few small things.... I ran into a su error, so in the meantime if you have that error, find a Su.zip and flash from recovery..... Also. After flashing su.... Use file browser and go to /system/app and install OperaMini.apk as a system app, then that will work..... Update coming in a few hours or so.
First ROM I've attempted to install on my MarvelC. Even though I've nothing to compare it to, I still got to say nice work. You've covered the only issues I've seen so far, looking forward to checking it out some more. This is my backup phone, so I haven't activated service yet.

________________________________
I've been wanting to set up a TalkforGood account to test their service, so I will try and do that today and test this ROM more thoroughly. I don't need a ton of features, so I do like this slimmed-down ROM. My only comments so far is that there are noticeable and annoying lags when scrolling in certain apps, like Tapatalk for example. Also, overall screen quality is not as crisp and vibrant as in stock, not sure what can be done about that. I did try that Cavefire ROM for MarvelC and noticed it was visually better than this one in an ICS/JB type display, however that one is quite laggy for me. Another thing I noticed is that you get a display corruption when you try to reduce the camera resolution below 5mp. Am definitely interested in seeing more progress with this ROM, keep up the good work!
OP update.
Flash away, post results.
I didn't have a chance to test too extensively but I know it boots.

[4.4] KitKat ART discussion thread

Hello,
Following @Nebucatnetzer idea (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47328274&postcount=1283), I decided to create a new thread dedicated to ART talking.
ART is not even finished by Google : all the ART discussion in 4.4 custom ROMs thread for our GNex clutters the threads with the same question every page. It results in messy threads which do not help anyone who wants to see the status, updates, or wants to post bugreports about the KitKat ROMs !
Small reminder out there : KitKat isn't even fully working on our phone, so it is quite early to mess up with ART, just my opinion So I'll hope everyone will talk about ART here as it concerns all the 4.4 ROMs out there.
What is ART ?
ART, Android RunTime, is a new runtime which has been introduced in Android 4.4.
It has been said that it improves the smoothness of the phone, but ATM it's more of a placebo effect (listen to this please, very interesting : Android Central : five minutes about ART podcast)
How to enable ART ?
Important, as Android devs said : Dalvik must remain the default runtime or you risk breaking your Android implementations and third-party applications.
(source : https://source.android.com/devices/tech/dalvik/art.html)
Go to Settings, then Developer Options, then Select runtime and select "Use ART"
BEWARE : Use odexed gapps (from AOSPA) otherwise you'll have nonstop FC and a really hard time reselecting Dalvik !
Here's a download link :AOSPA Odexed 4.4 Gapps
After selecting ART, your phone will rebuild is cache as usual, but don't worry if it takes a long moment, 20-30mins as some people reported.
If there's any other information we should add to this OP, I'll do it So, please use this magnificient thread to centralize all the ART talk :good:
Cheers !

Neither does Titanium Backup. I still get FC on Google keyboard, Google one and some init even with odex gapps. Each reboot there's 16 apps that need to be rebuilt each time. Really sucks.
Has anybody noticed some speed improvements?

Don't think so. I think the system does it when selecting ART and rebooting. That's why cache rebuilding takes a longer time.
But I'm not sure at all.

ART
I tried switching to ART last night.
I used Grarak's and ODEXED PA GApps.
After switching to ART, the phone prompted a reboot so I plugged my phone preparing fie a logcat.
When the Google logo appeared I started the logcat.
I noticed 1 error from the very beginning. It's looking for something and it didn't seem to find it.
Then on the process of optimizing the apps, there is one persistent warning.
It says it didn't find "ELF Magic".
What is ELF Magic ?
i was just thinking, with a fully stock odexed rom, all of the system apps and some frameworks are odexed. so when we are currently using art its only affecting the gapps and nothing else so technically we are not fully using art to its best ability and getting the full effect am i right ? i know its experimental but having the gapps only running with the art runtime is very minimal. i dived around root explorer and i noticed that the priv-app files still contained odex files and not oat showing that the compiler only works on system apps, idk im just babbling on sharing some thoughts haha anyways i would love to try it on a full rom scale some time hope ya guys understand what im trying to say here

ELF file is a kind of executable file used by some Unix-like systems, similar to exe on Windows. The header of the file contains a sequence, called the magic number, which the system will check to make sure it's the right format. If not found, that means it's not an ELF. Search "ELF magic number" for more info.

Obviously it's magic from an Elf! See if you can capture one of the Keebler elves and have them use their magic on your phone!
On a more serious note:
In computing, the Executable and Linkable Format (ELF, formerly called Extensible Linking Format) is a common standard file format for executables, object code, shared libraries, and core dumps. First published in the System V Application Binary Interface specification,[1] and later in the Tool Interface Standard,[2] it was quickly accepted among different vendors of Unix systems. In 1999 it was chosen as the standard binary file format for Unix and Unix-like systems on x86 by the 86open project.
ELF is flexible and extensible by design, and it is not bound to any particular processor or architecture. This has allowed it to be adopted by many different operating systems on many different platforms.

Hey guys, I just found this video about ART vs. Dalvik. Okay, it is on Nexus 7 (2013), but I guess the weaker OMAP4460 can see some benefits once we have a more-or-less stable build.
Okay, the video only appears for 1 second here, so here is the link: http://youtu.be/xgnZbdO4NV0

[MOD] Kev's Performance Tweaks v.2.0.8 ~~~ UPDATE: 11/23/2014 ~~~

Not that it really needs it... but...
Confirmed Roms:
VisionX US N3
TweakedN3 3.9+
HyperDrive RLS5+
DirtyUnicorn
LiquidSmooth
CM11 Nightlies
Let me know what roms you are using this on so I can add to this list please...
Click to collapse
Make sure the rom you are on has the latest busybox installed.
Flash in whatever recovery you have, and it'll do the rest. This should work any Samaung device that are Android 2.3 and up, I only have devices that are HoneyComb and up, and it's been tested on them, and works great on them... TEST and USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
What does it do Kev?
Vacuum's SQLite every 4 days
Zip-Aligns all User Data APK's every 3 days (if you choose)
Cleans Caches, Logs, Tombstones, etc... every week
Tweaks Your systems I/O
Makes your Mobile and Wifi Networks faster
Bumps your Wifi scan to every 300 seconds (battery saver)
Enables some Dalvik VM Flags to optimize the loading and executing of all your apps
Enables Dalvik to execute in the Java JIT
Bumps your Dalvik Heaps a tad (let's face it... we got 3G of RAM, so why not?)
Moves your Dalvik to your /cache partition, leaving you a bit more room for more apps
Removes ext4 Journalism on your internal system storage (big time performance boost)
Forces your Launcher into Memory (yes this will take up a bit more RAM, however, your launcher will be much more responsive)
Remounts your devices system, data, and cache partitions explicitly, no updating timestamps, and asyncronous I/O calls
Tweaks your External SD Card read-ahead
Calibrates your Battery if it needs it
Enables true init.d support to devices that are bootloader locked
De-Bloats Note 3 Devices of Samsung, GApps, and Carrier Bloatware. NOTE: Don't bother using it if you've flashed a Note 4 or S5 rom
Logs most actions to /sdcard
But, why do I need it Kev?
In all honesty, you probably don't. Personally I wanted a little more oomph outta my device, so here we are... Not that there's anything wrong with the default, but me being on a locked bootload on my S4, I didn't get the luxury of being able to flash custom kernels to suit most of these needs
This is awesome Kev, how can I thank you enough?
Hit the thanks button.
Can I run it manually?
Sure. Grab a terminal emulator and type the following.
Code:
su
sh /system/etc/init.d/10KevsTweaks
sh /system/etc/init.d/11KevsDalvikMover
sh /system/etc/init.d/12KevsZipAligner
As with any mod you do to your device, make sure you make a full backup before you do anything, and as always... YOUR DEVICE'S WARRANTY IS NOW VOID

Click to collapse
You may use this, if you use it on a device other than a Samsung, make sure you edit the init.d script to match your devices '/system', '/data', and '/cache' partitions

Same thing is happening like the auto rotate fix you made. Keeps getting stuck when I try to flash it m says it's using aroma which I can't use cuz I'm on safestrap with ATT. Am I doing something wrong?

I wouldn't think so.
To be safe for now, flash it without using the build.prop mods... do a nandroid backup, and then reflash with the build.prop mods.
Seems that those are the odd-balls with this for some reason still... though I have it setup to delete the existing lines, and write my tweaks in...
Also, next update, I am taking out the odexer... and probably the update after I'll be putting in the de-bloater... still sifting through the apks/ and associated lib files so it truly and smartly debloats
