Custom recovery. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi, guys
For some time didn't visit the site. Now bought T-mo S4 M-919.
Last 3 days running sleep deprived LOL. Trying to install either CWM, CWM-touch, TWIRP.... ANYTHING!!!!
Used Odin 3.07, 1.85, operation completes in 2.03 minutes and yellow square on the top of Odin menu says PASS.
Then again, booting into recovery and getting recovery (3e), stock I assume.
D-loaded all drives, Kies, whatever was suggested in several posts. Read and searched for 3 days, eyes are bleeding already... LOL
Installed custom recoveries on multiple devices HD2, Asus Transformer, dreaded Viewsonic G-tab, HTC Sensation 4g...
Never had such a tough time.
What am I doing wrong? Did anyone else had such a problem?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
Tester.

Are you rooted? You could try installing from Rom Manager app itself.

Thanks.

Thank you for your fast response.
I read somewhere to disable auto-reboot in Odin and turn off the phone by pulling the battery.
So, I tried it and it WORKED!!!!!
Now I'm with CWM and rooted!!!! And Happy!!
Thanks again.

Just flash a zip through recovery, it takes a couple of seconds...

Yeah sometimes it doesn't take the first time so you might have to do it a couple times.

Now I'm happy with my CWM, maybe later will install TWRP, I like more options in TWRP.
The goal right now is to figure out what bloatware is safe to remove without compromising performance and install all my old programs through the Titanium back up.
It means more reading... LOL.

Some custom roms need to update recovery before a flash. How to update recovery without risk ?

Back up all the bloat with titanium.
Make a full nandroid backup of the rom.
Then delete anything you want. If it breaks restore it with titanium. If it really breaks do a full nandroid restore.

Help I think my Note 2 is on it's last leg

so I don't know how it happened
but over the past couple weeks I've had a lot of trouble with my phone
I didn't notice any issues until I flashed Skynote
it started out as just my computer not recognizing it when connected via USB
but problems have escalated further now
for some reason if I try flashing touchwiz roms 1/2 the time TWRP crashes while doing it and if it doesn't it constantly hangs up during flashing(it took me almost 1/2 hour to flash ultimate internation rom last night)
If I get a rom running the phone is constantly hanging when going through the settings menu.. or if an app is installing it will lock up totally for like 5 seconds
I've formatted thru twrp, I wipe the system every time. I've tried countless factory resets
nothing seems to be helping
anyone have any idea what might be going on?
Probably something corrupt or misplaced. Flash stock to using odin. That should fix it

I have faced similar issues twice after changing a rom. The only way back to stability was to odin a stock firmware on to the note II and then to re-root, re-install a custom recovery and reflash the rom.
You can use this thread to get the files to odin back to stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2275844
Give it a try. . . it helped me!
thanks for the help guys
seems to be running well on stock......I'm gonna put it through it's paces for a while before I get my hopes totally up though
I think I'm just gonna keep it like this until we get some 4.2.2 touchwiz roms
hopefully with 4.2.2 coming out in the coming days the wait wont be too long
Dirty devices...
They all need a good cleaning once in a while ...g

Try CWM recovery, not twrp....I never use twrp, , always hearing issues with people using that recovery method...Some phone's just don't like it..lol
And like Greg stated...most phones need a thorough cleaning every now and then to get the bugs out.
With TWRP its always good to have the latest version... it can really make a difference

I prefer using CWM to flash ROMs on my device. I Always had problems flashing zips on my phone using TWRP recovery. It gave me a headache that I had to use the emergency firmware recovery in kies to revert to stock and reset my flash count. Do try flashing in CWM recovery instead and see what's the result.

[Q] T-Mobile Note 3 N900T Stuck In Boot Loop From CWM

Hello all
I used Max Lee's method at http://galaxynote3root.com/ to root my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and it worked fine. I needed to test deleting some KNOX files so before I did that, I made a restore file within CWM which turned out to be a tad over 3GB. Then I tested deleting the KNOX files and everything seemed to be working alright. I happened to also try out ...Awesome...'s AwesomeBeats v4 Black mod and ran into it stopping unexpectedly.
I decided then it would be best if I just restored the phone to earlier so I rebooted into CWM recovery and chose to restore with the 3GB file I made earlier. It seemed to compile fine but when I chose to reboot, it would get stuck in a reboot loop.
I've tried wiping the dalvik-cache as well as the regular cache to no avail. I was even desperate enough to try wipe data factory reset with the same resulting bootloop. I then went into the advanced restore options and tried to restore boot, system, cache separately all to no resolution.
Any help you all can offer would be greatly appreciated.

For anyone who may have the same issue in the future, I just went to Samsung Update website and downloaded the firmware for my specific model on T-Mobile here: http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-N900T
They have all of the other firmwares for the Note 3 listed there as well. After that, you unzip the file and flash the resulting tar.md5 file in ODIN.

Did it turn off mid flash when using Odin? It's kinda hard to mess up Odin unless your device has very low battery.
Try Odin again, make sure you know how to use it though.

Just use Odin, using other things can screw it up further...
As long as it is booting, even though it's a loop, it's still salvageable.

Try this video from Max Lee. Even though he's talking about the Note 2, it helped me get out of my Note 3's boot loop. Listen to the things that pertain to your situation only and make sure you follow ALL of those particular steps. When it wasn't working for me initially, it's because I didn't follow exactly what he did. He may seem like he's kind of out of it in this video. but Max has repeatedly helped me get out of my rooting woes. He's definitely on point!
I hope it helps you... if you're stuck in a boot loop. I know you said you can't restore but I'm assuming you tried and you're as a result stuck in an incessant boot loop.

I have two note 3, I rooted one and installed all my apps, mods, etc... then I created a twrp backup... I copied the twrp backup to the other note 3 (inside the twrp folder) and I restored... Voila, a perfect clone.
Do you have more than one twrp backup or you are just trying the same one always? (besides odin and bla bla...) What if someone gives you another twrp backup to try?
Also... Your situation makes me remember myself with the Note 2... I bricked my note 2 and I wasn't able to recover it... I did all I could possibly imagine just like you... (I was crying on the inside) But I ended up saving the phone by flashing a Samsung odin firmware from the International version... Believe it or not, that worked for me.
Just giving ideas, trying to help...

Cant install custom ROMs

I just got the GN3 and naturally, the first thing I did was root it. That took a bit of time because it didn't seem to want to stock. Supersu kept force closing and i would get a pop up saying its been prevented from opening. After a bit i got it though. and used titanium to freeze all the unwanted bloat. but EVERY time i try to install a ROM i get into a boot loop. Ive tried just about every rom that is so far available to us. ive tried removing the battery, wiping cache, and doing system restore. but i just constantly get boot loops. Any thoughts?

Is it the same process as my original GN4? Cant afford to brick or screw this up. What will my limitations be with OF5? Thanks!
Should be able to root with cf auto root.
Same as any other samsung note 4 root
Odin twrp, flash su. Followed the steps found on Galaxynote4root.com, worked without a hitch. As far as limitations, youll only be able to flash certain roms.

You can restore your nand backups that you make with TWRP once you root and install custom recovery. What you can no longer do is "downgrade" the bootloader. There is finally a tar for the most current release so if you mess up you can ODIN back to stock and start over or get back to stock to take the 5.1 update once it drops.

I've also tried to use CF auto root multiple times with no success. I have had two updates since I purchased my phone about 1 month ago. I'm on version 5.0.1

Custom Recovery after 4.4.2?

Hello XDA community,
So I've owned the Note II since it came out basically. I used to ODIN custom recoveries and flash ROMs to it all the time. After the last update (4.4.2), I ODIN my phone back to stock to get the update; which of course included the dreaded KNOX. Afterwards, I just left it be due to the KNOX security and fear of messing up the phone. Long story short, I've been out of the loop for a couple of years and recently I've had the urge to try some of the newer ROMs and what not. More than likely this urge has spawned from the fact that I'll be doing away with my Note II soon, as it's very old and dated. So the fear of messing it up, has some what diminished.
So my question is... Is there anything special that I have to do before attempting to load a custom recovery after the 4.4.2 firmware update? Do I have to downgrade my current stock firmware first? Or is it still the same as it was before 4.4.2, just using ODIN to push the recovery and reboot? Any help is greatly appreciated! :victory:
Even with knox there is a chainfire setup. Trips knox but your out of warranty anyway. Just follow threads for your note 2. Mine is att.

Wow, Thanks for the quick response! Would you mind looking through these instructions right quick, and see if I'm safe to go with this method?
ROOT AT&T GALAXY NOTE 2 AND INSTALL TWRP RECOVERY
1.) Download and extract CF-Auto-Root-t0lteatt-t0lteatt-samsungsghi317.zip to your PC. You’ll get an Odin flash-able file in the .tar.md5 format.
2.) Flash the CF-Auto-Root-t0lteatt-t0lteatt-samsungsghi317.tar.md5 using Odin. You can follow our exclusive guide on flashing firmware using Odin
3.) During the CF Auto-root process, if the device is stuck at bootlogo, remove the battery and boot into recovery mode manually to start the rooting process.
4.) Once the flashing process is finished, reboot the device and open the SuperSU app. If you encounter any KNOX warnings, then follow the instructions given in our KNOX disabling guide
5.) If everything is fine on the rooting end, download the latest Odin flash-able TWRP recovery from the Official TWRP page
6.) The recovery is in the form of .tar package, flash it using the Odin guide
7.) Reboot the device into recovery mode and check if the recovery is installed properly.
That looks like the right one. Been awhile my note is still going. Getting oppo r7s soon. But yes looks correct. Good flashing.

Oh Nice! A guy I work with was just telling me about the oppo. He's also talking about getting it. It looks like a beast, from what I've seen on it.
Looks nice...metal body. 1/2 price of new note . lol and a flip phone beats an I device. Ha ha haaa

Not sure where I went wrong. I factory reset my phone before I even started. Pushed the ROOT using ODIN 3.10. Everything went fine, the phone rebooted and came back with "SuperSU stopped working" ,"Youtube stopped working", "Maps stopped working." Unable to open any of those apps. I factory reset again, and cleared the cache, but still no luck. Any suggestions for me?
Only thing I can think is su needs to be re flashed

Tried to re-flash SuperSU, but still no luck. However, after all the other apps finished updating - I can use youtube and maps again. yay! lol.
By re-flashing stock, do you mean using ODIN to push a stock firmware back over to the phone? Did the stock 4.4.2 firmware ever leak out after release?
By the way, I really appreciate your advice on all this.
I did a 4.3 stock. Then I flashed DN3. But yeah gapps can be a pain too. Slipped my mind lol.
Yw for the tips but you're doing it . lol Have fun.

I ended up going about it a different way, but I don't think I would of tried it without you talking me through some of it. Although it's not a lot, I donated to you so you could at least have a beer on me. Thanks brother. KCCO.
Greatly appreciated & good luck with everything. We are all here to help each other.
