[Q] Android 4.3 for experia arc s yet ? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If anyone knows something pls lets talk about this.!

We are just hitting 4.2 now.. come on, you have a 2011 device, don't expect TOO MUCH... Also, if you see no threads with [4.3] at Android Developing, why bother asking?

Anything goes nowadays... next thing you know people start asking about Key Lime Pie for 2011 Xperia phones. They talk like it's so easy to port ROMs and apps and other things when they they haven't tried it themselves...

[Q] I need help with my Xperia Arc.

Hi, I just bought a Xperia Arc and I'm fairly new to the Android system. I was wondering how I could customize it, I've heard rooting the device is the way to go. Could someone please explain in simple words how to do that. Just to let you know I've heard you have to unlock the bootloader first but I don't even know what that is so I'm a rookie. Thanks.
Well first off, there's a bunch of customizing that you can do without rooting. Wallpapers and ringtones are simple things. The biggest customizing comes from changing your launcher. The launcher controls your home screens and your app drawer. The default one is good but it's a little too slow for me. I use Launcher Pro (can get it from the market), but there are loads of other launchers. The beauty of Android is that you can try them all and pick the one that works the best for you. ADW is another fav launcher of these forums. Just do a search in the market for "launcher" and you'll get a bunch. Some are free, some aren't.
As for rooting, you don't need to unlock your bootloader to root. In fact, if you have a branded phone (i.e. Rogers,O2,AT&T, etc) you can't unlock your bootloader....but you can root. Do a search for Gingerbreak on the forum for inductions. The reason why you want to root is to give your self a little more control over the phone and allow for heavier customization. If you have a branded phone rooting allows you to uninstall some of the unwanted software that your provider puts on the phone, also know as bloatware.
If there's certain thing you want to customize try searching this forum. There's a good chance someone has has a post on it....and it'll prevent you from getting yelled at for posting a question that someone already has.
Android is awesome and is a modder's/customizer's dream. If you want a sample of done of the different things you can do go to the themes/apps section and look for the post titled "Post your screen shots" or something like that. It's amazing how the same phone can look and operate so differently.

Thanks a lot, I tried the Launcher pro on my Atrix cuz Motoblur sucked. So since my phone was originally from Rogers and i unlocked it for Fido i shouldn't try to unlock the bootloader? I was thinking someone was gonna tell me to check another thread instead of posting one, but thanks for the tips. I'll keep working on the phone.
hey I AM also a owner of arc

yes but unlike the 2.3.2 of the arc, bootloader needs to be unlock first.

Because it was a branded phone you can't unlock the bootloader. Sony is only allowing unbranded phones to have their bootloaders unlocked. So unless someone find a way to hack the bootloader you'll have to live with regular root...assuming someone find a way to root 2.3.3. Right now only 2.3.2 is rootable.

[Q] What is the future of the "Theme" opportunity?

With the new* udate of Arc (4.0.A.2.368) we got the opportunity to select themes and this is great, but I started to wonder: Will any devs start developing themes that can be installed into the stock theme changer?
I know that its not possible to install new themes to this theme changer today, but I am kind of assuming that the great devs that are here on Xda will find a solution to that "problem" or shall we say this "challenge"..
I must say that I am HOPING that there is some devs that are working on this already, I know that if I knew more about phones/android I sure would.
So I am hoping to hear from some of you guys what your thoughts on "The future of Themes".
* Its not so new anymore but anyways..

Given how basic they actually are it's a bit pointless imo (wallpaper and button press), and from the bit of playing I've done you're never going to be able to use GreenGlow for example to be installed in the same manner.
Thas sad...I was kind of hoping that this theme opportunity would give us lots of good themes that could be sett in an easy way..
I was hoping for an recovery that was really easy to install for the arc and neo, like the xrecovery was on the x10 and x10 mini/mpro but I cant say that ive seen that yet..so that made me get my hopes up when SE launced "themes" but sadly these are not any good.
They look a little bitt better..but not mutch..hehe.
But is there any devs that are working on themes that are more basic so that they could be portet into the Theme chooser?

[Q] list of roms for xperia arc S

i want list for sony ericsson xperia arc s , iv also noticed there isnt a seperate device forum for the arc s
And I want Pamela Anderson, but is not possible))I'm joking, you can check roms on the Xperia android development.

hey
humorus joke i take it
I dont think anyone here will have the time to walk you through building a custom rom. A lot of work goes into making them stable etc and they will have Roms they are working on themselves. I think it is a bit too much of an ask.
As said, read and then read some more - it isnt something to start doing on a whim

Not to my knowledge. That would require heavy Samsung framework.
Next time you post a request, please put in the general section.
Thanks
Yahh. Today I found about it and I really like it. So I tried many times to port this to my ion. But i am with no luck. Some files they use is not in sony file system. So it may be impossible, if it is possible also it will be very difficult job. But I will try again. I wish I had more knowledge.
+ please post Question & REQ in Q&A forum.

Help a complete noob root his Acro S

Hey, people! I've been lurking around XDA for sometime now and I have finally decided to join the fray!
I'm a complete noob in regards to rooting and modding a phone and this is obviously my first time. I understand the risks of rooting though but refreshing my (almost) year old Acro S (updated to the latest stock JB 4.1.2, locked bootloader) with an (almost) expired warranty would be pretty rad. I can always spend some money and get a new phone but I really wanna try my hands on a rooted phone and save that money for the next year or even two. So hear me out please!
I have no idea how to do this but what I'm looking for is:
- A noob-friendly tutorial on how to root my Acro S
- Suggestions, recommendations and tips after I'm rooted
- Giving the phone any amount of boost to its current lacking speed if possible
- Getting dem latest Sony media apps if there are any available or possible
- Tweaking the current "blinds" lockscreen with a mod if possible
- Improving music experience if possible (I'm a very avid music listener)
- While keeping anything else as stock feeling or looking as possible (my minimalistic self loves Action Launcher!)
I hope I'm not asking too much. Hope you guys can help me here!

What exactly is an ADB driver? What for and how do I use it/install it? Is it really needed?

It's really needed if your phone does not start anymore at some point. But read TUTORIALS about adb, it's too complicated for you right now.
