Google Maps - No ZOOM button! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Does anyone else find it absolutely annoying that they reomved the zoom buttons on Google Maps?! Yeah, I got to double tap to zoom in, but while driving I have to use two hands to operate the app. So F-ing annoying. Not to mention the 86ing of Latitude and layers.

That being said, thank you! I was losing my dang mind on not having the buttons! Wooohooo!

Sure, and next get yourself killed while driving cause this fkn method requires you to look at screen for min 3 seconds.
Tapping on old zoom buttons was easy and safe.
Google software architecting trolls suck. Their new philosophy is to promote dumbness among interfaces making then unussuable for normal people. I wonder who is the brain behind these stupid ideas.

Not practical when I pan at the same time trying to sweep area around or tracing route. Repeating double tap and hold just to zoom in out takes way more time than just pressing button to zoom and swiping to pan alternatively. I do not have to keep my eyes on the map when zoomong with button while with dtap I must. Waiting after dtap is also a waste of time.
But if you are happy with dtap, good for you. My opinion is they still suck. Too bad more dumb improvements most likely to come.

if you're driving, you don't even need to look at the screen for the + or - buttons....to zoom !
just tap the screen and hold then drag down to zoom in and drag up to zoom out.... That is a pretty good improvement over searching for the tiny button to click on!
jess mah 2 cents.....
Aloha!

I don't mind that the "tap & drag" method is there, I just find it annoying that the zoom buttons have been removed. Why not have both and let the user choose? Zooming with one hand while driving is FAR easier to me with the zoom buttons than the other method, which I find way too easy to get wrong when I can't give my undivided attention. The fact that the zoom buttons are always in the same place makes it easy to hit them every time. That's why I'm still using 6.14.3 and won't give it up until zoom buttons are added back into a newer version.

OK, I understand your frustrations, and Frankly, I too have issues with the new maps, and google , with their HIGH AND MIGHTY attitude won't even bother to respond to queries on their programming errors! They just have the "Take it or leave it" attitude and that bothers me.
Oh well, we both just have to live with them I guess.... Have a Great Day!

[Q] Volume rocker as Camera button?

Hey everyone. I was using the camera app the other day, and it got me thinking that it would be incredibly convenient and practical to be able to use the volume rocker to take pictures instead of the optical trackpad. I've done a bit of searching, and I haven't seen anything about this in the Incredible forum, so if anyone has a solution or idea, feel free to let me know!
I agree. The optical jog is terrible. Almost impossible to hold the camera steady and use it.

Ditto.
Maybe even be able to rotate the camera app so the volume buttons are in the traditional location of the shutter button.
its like one of three things i miss about my blackberry storm. the camera button, the way that profiles and settings were consolidated into one space, and batch actions for messages (delete all, mark all unread, etc)
i hope that someone comes up with something for this. especially allowing camera to rotate would be great.

I could not get mine to work at all when I first turned it on. I held my had vertically and swiped back and forth with it close to the phone then a couple of times higher and higher and nothing happens.

I couldn't even get it to work when promoted to do so after the little tutorial.
Now what?
I really used this feature a lot.
i apologize for the shameless bump but this is driving me crazy
Found the answer and I feel like an idiot but this may help anyone else who has this issue. A guy named tdriscolljr76SIII on a sprint forum said this:
I had this same issue as the instructions do not explain it well. I then went to YouTube and saw a video of how this actually works. Take the side of you hand and smear it left to right or vice versa across the entire device as if it were a light squeegee. It will then make a blur across the screen like a photocopier and save to clip board.
For some reason I thought I didn't need to touch the screen. Don't know how that went wrong for me

Features I have discovered in the Optimus UI

This is my first time I have used an Optimus UI phone, so everyday I'm discovering cool new features that are actually pretty usefully. I thought it would be cool if we could share these findings. I'll start...
Quick remote will pop up on the lockscreen by tapping the home button. F#####G brilliant! I owned the HTC One and S4 they both have the IR blaster that allows the control over the TV. But no quick way to access it on the lock screen.
Ohhhhhhhh...thats why the quick remote shows up in my lock screen even tho i didnt set it to be there, i thought something is wrong with my lockscreen lol, didnt know that i just keep pressibng the home button lol, thanks!!

In the quick remote app, when you add a new device, try answering no to some of the questions even if the buttons work. I discovered different remote layouts that still are completely functional. You might discover extra buttons that aren't available on the first profile it finds for you.

[Solved] No Menu Button Issues - Updated first post

-----EDIT-----
Figured it out, and updating the first post to help other out.
Seems I have found an answer from the s5... Long pressing the app switch butting gets you the menu in any app.
----Original Post----
So, after only a few hours of use i have found a very big issue.
No menu button means some apps are useless.
I cant even reply to topics from the XDA app, and cant change setting from others apps expecting to have a menu button on the phone. What was Samsung thinking?
I may need to return this phone if i cant find a solution. Anyone have any ideas?

The one to the left of the home button.
I don' mean no harm, but there's absolutely NO excuse for a Note 4 owner and someone who went out of their way to become an XDA member, to be so ignorant when it comes to something this simple. I don't even have my Note 4, yet, and I could school you up and down on it. There's dozens of videos online at your disposal, to tell you what features are found on your phone. Just looking at any one of them ... and as already mentioned ... you would have found out that long-pressing the recent apps button activates the menu. It's really quite simple.
Or tap the 3 dots at top right ...

There are a lot of people who are coming from a device that did not have the recent apps button and is not aware that you can long press it to get the menu button...especially on a device that has only been out for a day or so.

Just ignore him man, not even worth feeding his immaturity.
Anyways, Thanks for the tip about the xda app as well.
Hope this thread helps others that are having that WTF moment when they first get the phone... You know, i cant remember but i don't think that first pop up tip says anything about long pressing for a menu. I could be wrong and have just hit ok after reading the title.
Don't sweat the little stuff... I asked a while ago about getting air command to pop up. Once you are used to a device that is very, very close to the device you just bought... well, you may not realize the little changes. In my case the older Note I had you held the button on the s-pen while hovering to bring up the air command menu. On the Note 4 all you have to do is hover then click (not hold). Stumped me for over an hour.. until I posted and asked.
Coming from an iPhone forces people to do more reading and learn everything.

Fix for lag/delay when hitting multitasking capacitive button

Not sure if someone else already posted but I figured I would share what I found. YMMV
If you're experiencing a delay in response when hitting the multitasking(recent) capacitive button (the one that's to the left of your home button) I may have found a way to speed it up.
In settings > accessibility > dexterity and interaction > touch and hold delay
Change it to custom. When you customize it take your finger off as soon as it turns green. Faster is better.
It seems to have done the trick for me. Let me know if works for you.

I think you guys are experiencing the placebo effect, this setting has nothing to do with a regular press. I've timed it on a few different Note 4s and it does not increase the speed.
