No. It depends where the phone comes from. If it's from a carrier, it is probably with a locked bootloader. If you buy it from lets say amazon at full price which the phone is already SIM unlocked, it will probably be with a unlockable BL.

I also went to my Sony store and they only had the one branded by Rogers so I guess you better make sure its factory before you purchase it becoz at the moment, theres no way to unlock a BL that is set to NO. ....But maybe someone will come up with an exploit in the near future.

[Q] Bootloader Unlockable consequences

I'm not the only semi-noob out here. I'm sure not many of us fully understand the consequences of having an XZL that won't let you unlock the bootloader. So...
If you cannot unlock your bootloader, what are the ramifications? Will the number of available custom roms be fewer? Can we have no custom roms at all?
Also, how can you ensure that you get an unlockable phone. I'm in canada, if I order the XZL through Bell, am I 100% certain to get a phone that wont let you unlock the bootloader? Do I have to buy the full thing off contract if i want an unlockable bootloader?

even if you buy the phone from bell off contract the bootloader will still be locked
i live in toronto and ordered the zl online and i already have unlocked my bootloader
as for roms there are some that can still work but yes it limits the customization that you can acheive with an unlocked bootloader

hi mate, just wonder whether you still have BE2 & Walkman after unlocking BL?
edit: got the answer.

Why the bootloader is locked ?

I don't understand.
I bought my ZL on Amazon.
This is a naked version not a version of an operator.
Yet he blocked bootloader.
I'm really disappointed: (

Every bootloader is locked. What matters is whether its 'unlockable' or not. Does the bootloader unlock allowed say YES or NO in your case?

Did you root your phone? When rooting the value changes to NO, but when you flash the original ftf it returns to yes.
I got mine from amazon.de and it can be unlocked.

To correct this, after rooting with locked BL, delete the file "libservicemenu.so" using a root explorer. U shall find it in: "data/data/com.sonyericsson.android.servicemenu/lib". I read about this fix on the XZ rooting thread and it works on my ZL :good:. Hope it works for u guys too.

Hey will unlocking the bootloader with the unlock tool void the "Hardware" warranty?
if you relock it, I think sony would know since you unlock it through their servers right?

I'm afraid, yes! I've read about sony refusing to honour warranty to many Xperia S users for repair of screen "yellow tint" issue owing to their unlocked BL status. Even if you relock the BL you still won't restore the sony DRM keys to the "TA" & that's probably how sony service guys know about unlocked BL status, of course beside the record on their website (regarding unlock code request).

I am pretty sure you can backup/restore the DRM keys. As for their official records though im not sure. You could always claim someone else did it lol.

[Q] Unlock bootloader with recently unlocked sim lock

Hi,
I have recently unlocked my Xperia S.(removed simlock by unlock code from o2)
However I want to unlock my bootloader now.
Of course I can't, when I access the service menu it says bootloader unlock allowed: NO.(Probably because of my carrier o2)
So my question is, what should I do next? Contact Sony? Or is my phone never going to be able, to get unlocked?
Thanks in advance

I have the same thing with ny DoCoMo Acro HD (S). YOu will probably never, ever, be able to unlock the BL. Just like I can't. Sorry.
The only way is to go to O2, get them to agree to unlock your BL (if you can find a member of O2 staff who knows what a locked BL is...), then you will have to send your phone away to a Sony service centre, as it's not something you can do with a code. Only a Sony engineer can do it.
So, there you go. It's unlikely you can unlock your BL. Sorry. I haven't even tried.....

SO,
when I used o2 live chat and asked for help, he told me to go aks sony because he can't help.
Sony told me that they can't help me either
Is there any illegal way of unlocking it?

If O2 won't help you, then no. It's the only way. But chances of O2 staff having any idea what you are talking about is slim to none. Stock answer is to tell you to contact Sony.

I know how you feel.....I brought my phone outright, and never had a DoCoMo contract, but 'cos it's branded, I'll never get it unlocked. Gutted, mush.
Of course it is possible to unlock the bootloader, even when it is in NO state.
When S1 Server was available that was done on many phones.
If you unlocked your phone legaly you have to contact your network and they have to send phone to Sony Service, only they can do it.

unlock bootloader on unlock allowed no

You will never be able to unlock the bootloader on that phone, unless your carrier can give you some kind of code to change your unlock status (not sure this is even possible).

The BL is different, if it came from O2 then chances are you cant unlock the BL.
So there is no chance? It worked with xperia arc and omnius. Costs about 15$, that would be ok. But will it work with our z1c in the near future? Or is it just "luck" to find an exploit?

Well nothing is impossible, but it isn't likely as it requires a bootloader exploit. Realistically it isn't going to happen though, unless some smart people devote a lot of time to it. The most likely scenario (using test point to gain more software access) would require hardware tampering.
Hello Mentalghost,
Unfortunately there is no way to unlock the bootloader when the status is "No".
Have a great day, cheers!

MentalGhost, where did you purchase your phone? This phone isn't sold by any carriers in the USA, to the best of my knowledge, so the bootloader shouldn't be locked.

Bought in UK where I am not in USA. Might take back to shop where bought from and see if got any others in lol
Or wait for locked bootloader versions or someone makes modded version with unlocked rom that is been modded like one where you install modded that is unlocked install and then can unlock bootloader did in xperia s I use to have was a modded rom that was originally saying bootloader unlock no and added new Base rom and then said bootloadr unlock yes maybe this will happen on this phone in time or locked bootloader kernels and rom come along

I'd recommend to anyone that is still able to return a Phone to do so because I think you'll find you'll be waiting a long time for a solution.

Plus, there will be no solution. The reason why Xperia Arc S and other 2011 Xperias worked with testpoint method was because of that there was a big security flaw in the security of the testpoints nand access, but those flaws have been fixed in newer Xperias and newer 2011 Xperias also.

+1 It was coming to that realization that I sold my O2 locked Z after 6 months to buy an unbranded Z1 Compact. It worked out cheaper too spending hundreds of pounds up front for my Phone with the added bonus of having access to all of it.
What happens if you still follow the instructions on how to do it? I didn't check if it was allowed and I'm stuck in bootloop and I can't flash via flashtool,

Are all r800i unlockable?

So I want to buy an r800i, I can't post links yet.
But if you go on ebay and find "SONY ERICSSON XPERIA PLAY R800I - BLACK (UNLOCKED) SMARTPHONE"
I currently have an r800at which is manufactured 12W25 which is way too late for the bootloader to be unlocked unfortunately. It is sim unlocked though, but I don't have bootloader access.
So if I buy that device, will the bootloader be able to be unlocked? It's marketed as an r800i

yes the bootloader can be unlocked.. for all r800i models.. and rooted too.. ofcourse other models can be..
but tbh.. I broke my r800i.. my cousin had a r800at .. but my sim worked in it although I don't stay in USA.. so I installed r800i firmware on top of that and viola.. everything works as r800i.. bootloader unlocked and I am running Android Lollipop 5.1.1 atm.. I suggest u mess with ur current phone.. rather than go for a new one.

Can't because the manufacturing date is too new. Omnious and setool don't support it.
