Battery spikes to 100% new Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Everything else seems to be fine....has anyone else experienced this? Faulty battery? Simple annoyance?

That is some damn fast charging... Has this happened only once? Can you exchange yours locally? Might be a symptom of a future problem or something small that will never happen again. Most likely the latter
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

Yep, happened again. Only this time it spiked to 100% then dropped down to the real level......then never changed. I restored to factory. I'll report to see if it happens again. I learned my lesson on the last Nexus 7. NEVER buy online. I'll return it to Best Buy for an exchange if/when it happens again

No, multiplying twice by zero.

Blah......although the batter is holding its charge.

Another tablet....and its doing this again. I can't be the only one...... I'm thinking its app related...and not hardware.

Mine has done that twice that I've seen.

I'm thinking this is simply software related.......

Sorry for resurfacing this subject, but I present you, my recently bought Nexus 7 2013, bought in Germany. Stock Android, non-rooted, app used: battery widget reborn.
Any thoughts yet?

Mine is doing this as well. I'm pretty sure I've noticed it since I got it a few days ago,
The battery life seems fine though. Could this be just software related?

Seems more likely to me then the battery actually spiking it's voltage. That'd be potentially more serious...

Hey everyone,
My Nexus 7 (2013) is having the same problem with battery graph. There are about 2-3 spikes to 100% in every discharge cycle.
I noticed this problem has been reported in different cycles, but no one seems to be able to give a definite answer of what the source of this problem is.
BTW, after a reset to factory settings, the problem still persists.
ANY idea why this is happening???

I got my Nexus 7 2013 a few months ago. Never had a problem on 4.3 - discharged it, charged it without a problem. I usually keep it 80-100%. But 4.4 has yielded terrible battery life so I'm letting it drain more because ... it doesn't last 1/2 as long as when I had 4.3.
Got my first spike last night.

Been quite a while since I last saw a spike. Not sure at all what fixed it. Don't specifically remember uninstalling an app when it stopped, might've been the stock android update.

Happens sometimes. Stopped when I updated to 4.4, as did the random reboots. Wouldn't worry too much about it

Meh, still happens on lollipop...

Phone gets very HOT

I have had my Galaxy Nexus for a cupple of months now and I noticed that it get so ****ing HOT. I can feel that it burns a little bit in my pocket when the phone is there. The strange thing is that it gets this hot only when I am not connected to wifi or are at a place where the 3g connextion isn't that good, on the buss for example. So what do you guys think that I shuld do? Can I even return it now?
Thanks for answers

Also could be the kernel i have the same problem though
The only time I have noticed my phone getting very hot is when I stream music or use Wifi-tether.
Mine gets very hot only when I'm downloading torrents and don't have a wifi connection.
What baseband are you on? Was trying to sort out my phones heat and accompanying drain for ages! Exactly the same symptoms (only when using 3g, particularly with poor signal.) . Turns out my issue was baseband. Switched from kk6 to kl1 and so much better. Might be worth experimenting.

Also it would only get hot like that is data connection is consistently working. You might want to also check if there are apps that are constantly connecting in the background that you don't really need.

Well yes I have apps that requires data connection like twitter but I think a Smart phone like Galaxy Nexus should be able to handle that without getting super hot.

Yeah, I'd definately give it a shot. I'm in UK and KL1 seems pretty good to me. Tried quite a few and ALL were better than kk6! Like a completely different phone after!

My old one used to do that as well and it was a radio hardware issue. Received a replacement and all is well. I was within the 1 year warranty.

It was actually my 2nd replacement. My first issue was with the phone bootlooping (not related to ROMs) after about 3 months after purchase (only rooted). It was that replacement when the radios sucked. Phone was always hot and it ate through a full charge in about 4 hours. The phone was going into a deep sleep when inactive (verified with CPUSpy) and the Phone was eating the wakelock (BetterBatteryStats) as it kept looking for a signal. Didn't matter which radios I used (4.0.2 or 4.0.4) the results were the same.
Turned that phone in stating just the phone was eating the battery looking for a signal (battery showed red for phone signal) and they sent another replacement. This one is ok (running Gummy 1.0.1 with 4.0.4 radios).
I can vouch for this. I usually have my wifi on at work and at home with no heat issues at all. But the last two nights I was at chili's which had no wifi so I turned my 3g on and within 10 mins of super slow browsing my phone was getting ridiculously hot. I read on another thread that if the 3g signal is low or weak then it will continuously ping the server which causes something inside to heat up very quickly whether its the radio or cpu. This is definitely an issue but I'm not sure if its fixable with a new kernel or radio flash.

Hello.
For several days I have exactly the same problem.
Since I install AOKP milestone 5 and franco.kernel milestone 3, my phone started strongly hot.
Temperatures can reach 66 degrees, and the rear cover gets really hot.
Is it a hardware defect or problem is in the settings or Rom/kernel?

Had the phone today and It never got hot so something is fishy with the 3g ship/singnal.

[Q] CM9 Battery Drain

I just wanted to start off by thanking drk.hd and invisiblek for all of their hard work on the ROM and I love it. However there is a problem that I got with the latest build and I can't post in that thread because of the 10 post requirement. With that said, I have been getting massive battery drain overnight the past 2 nights and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to fix that. Last night I went from 67% down to 14% and the night before was even worse, 74% down to 4%. Does anyone know a way to fix that? It's the same problem I had with AOKP and Abduction and I didn't have that problem with the previous CM9 builds. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I forgot to add my kernel. I'm using the incredikernel hwa beta 2 running on smartassv2 with 128 min and 1113 max.

I do have those off. I actually had no problem on build 8 and I had amazing battery life and I've been using it the exact same way. I flashed over build 8 with 9 and then I started getting this massive battery drain over night. Weird thing is that it doesn't happen during the day only when the phone is idle for a long period of time.

Thanks for the response Tiny. Unfortunately, both of those apps are freezing up my phone and forcing a reboot.
I just resorted to a full wipe and hopefully that works out. Will report back tomorrow.

If they are freezing your phone there are other problems. Since you said you just wiped or will wipe hopefully that will fix it but it won't tell why.

You're right Tiny. After the wipe it seems to be back to a normal battery drain again as in build 8. The real test will come tomorrow though when I wake up. And the weird thing is that the apps work now after the full wipe. I still have a nandroid backup of the build 8 I flashed over if you want to do some tests with it to see what might have gone wrong.
Ok so it seemed that it was one of the apps that made my battery drain like crazy. I installed badass battery monitor again because I had a 12% drain in an hour at one point with it being idle with the screen taking up 40% of the usage. I uninstalled the last app that I installed which was the Videocam Illusion and I got only an 11% drain over night so it seemed like that fixed it.

[Q] Battery Depleting Quickly

I have had my Note 8 for a couple of months and just recently I have been having battery problems. I restored the Note 8 to factory settings (just to be sure) and am still having the same problem.
It seems that when I watch videos or play any games the battery depletes extremely quickly e.g Its 80%, I start to play the game and within 3-5 minutes the battery is 30%. I play again and its 5% and the screen dims (which is also a pain in the ....) I realise that Games and Apps use a lot of power but surely not this much.
I have looked around for battery calibration instructions and apps but are a bit dubious to try them as I have read that you can deplete the battery totally and the device then wont charge.
Just wondered if anybody else has had the same problem.
Thanks.
My note has a great battery life. For this situation I would look in the battery menu for any apps not closing correctly thus sucking battery. Remember to dis activate GPS, Bluetooth and data when not using them. Check the screen brightness is 50% or less. Automatic brightness should be fine also.
here's a lot of info related to batteries. I'm sure you will find it usefull
http://batteryuniversity.com/
Don't waste time with calibration. Sounds like the battery ifs failing or dying, either way it's bad.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 4
I usually have Bluetooth and GPS turned off and have the screen on Auto Brightness. I also restored to factory and the problem still persists.
One strange thing is that when I charge it from 10% it takes about 50 minutes to get to 100%. I thought that was a bit quick. The battery must be reporting the wrong charge to the OS. I wish they had user replaceable batteries in this thing although its probably not practical.
I will give Samsung a call. Cannot beleive it has happened now as I am off on holiday soon to the US and wanted to use it there.
Thanks.

same with me chas0001, and JCUK89, my situation is actually identical to chas0001, but my device is like a mth old now, i received it on august 5th 2013,
so its basically been used for jus over a mth now. and i barely use it, maybe 3 hrs a day, most days less than 1 hr, constant use.
i dont kno, can anyone help. on xda developers. ??
I called Amazon.co.uk (where I bought it from) and they agreed to replace it for me. Its was definitely faulty and unusable. I kept reading about people with the similar problems and so eventually decided to not get a replacement but a refund.
Its a shame really. I really liked the device but I need something more reliable. I also don't care for Samsung with their constantly delayed OS updates. 4.1.2 for a 'flagship' device. Surely if they get rid of that Touchwiz crap they can release timely updates. You never know even my Note 2 may get an OS update this year!
Just went out and bought a Nexus 7 (2013). NOW...what to do with those 5 Galaxy Note 8 cases

[Q] Battery drain by Android OS

I found my Nexus 7 switched off after idling for hours today and my battery level dropped from 100% to around 75% after around 7-8 hours with wifi on.
The battery graph was zigzag like with a few sudden increase of battery level within minutes. Sorry that i forgot to capture the image.
Moreover, the device was crazily lag and the screen turns on 10 seconds after I pressed the power button on and every requests took a lot of time.
After reboot, I decided to backup everything and flashed the stock nexus image and see if the problem still exists.
After a few hours of usage, I checked the battery stats in setting and it noticed that Android OS was using more than 75% of battery while screen just used about 5-10%.
I also found the device was hotter even if I am playing less cpu and gpu demanding games, like Coins Dozer.
Web browsing, switching between apps are little bit lag than before.
My device has restriced profile, rooted without installing any custom roms and kernels and is protected by a leather smart cover.
Is there anyone experienced this before? Thanks:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

My problem does not exist now. I am not sure if it is because I switched off google sync.
I don't think it is related to the smart cover

I have the battery monitor widget and system tuner widget wakelock for a few hundred times but I have them installed on my Nexus 4 also which does not affect the battery drain by Android OS.
I have really no idea on what happened:crying::crying:

Is there anyway to resolve it completely?

Should mwd49b be avoided?

I just picked up a SW3, and upgraded it to MEC24H. So far, I am pretty happy with it. I'll get a full day out of the battery, and that was with the just got it fingers playing with it more than I normally would.
I've heard some bad things about mwd49b on our watch, my watch keeps asking me to update, should I just avoid the mwd49b update for now and stick with MEC24H?

I can't use my SW3 since this update. The watch go from 3.5% by hour to 6-8% by hour, so unusable now
I've updated and have perfect battery life, easily 2 days. Yes, I'm a light user, but still......
I'm absolutely happy with the update. GPS is fine, in short everything works as it should.........
The latest update works fine on my watch. I even dirty flashed it, no hard reset. The only problem I have is that the watch would not fully charge when turned off. It will overheat and stop at about 60% charge.

Well I've found the update to be perfect here and same battery life as before. Strange how different people are having different experiences
Noticeably shorter battery life but the watch works much better. If you don't like to charge it every day or (almost) two - don't update but the update itself fixes many problems that occurred right after the update to 6.0
I've updated and my watch lasts almost for two days, I'm happy with the update but I'm waiting for the further fixes, mainly fixes for the battery.

Since accepting the update on my SW3 GPS has become unusable for any long-term tasks. It might last 20 or 30 minutes returning (relatively) accurate values but then accuracy shoots out to 64m or more and renders it useless for any serious application. I have two watches and they've both started doing the same thing. Personally I'd stick with version 5 for now until they fix it.
Interestingly enough yesterday my battery life restored close to normal after about a week of horrible drain. I did not do anything to the watch...
