VPN Connection - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
I have problems getting a VPN connection connected to a Fritzbox 7390.
Before I switched to the Galaxy S4 Mini I had a Galaxy S2 running being able to connect to my home router via VPN.
Now it is not possible to connect wit the S4 Mini?
Due to the fact that the S2 is running I think the S4 Mini has a problem here.
My S4 Mini Details:
- Rooted with RootKit V2.0
- Android 4.2.2
- Build: XXUAMG8
I also do not get any feedback from the device why the VPN connection is not getting established.
Does anybody has the VPN connection up and running?
Or does anybody experience the problem? Any solutions?
Thanks in advance,
NoFear

Did you try it on your S2 recently?
My telco here in Singapore denies all VPN connections when connected via the default 3G APN. But when you change the APN to the one used by 3G dongles for PCs, VPN connections magically work.
Not sure if its the case for your telco (could be a recent implementation) - you could try calling up your telco to confirm!

I used the Fritzbox VPN on my old phones, just remember that it needed a patch for the vpn to work, since the fritzbox has it's on special connections. Maybe that is not within your S4 version?
Sorry to just have a hint, but now using OpenVPN.

Yes i have a VPN connection from the s4 mini DUOS to fritzbox 7390 no problem.
No patch or something needed (android 4.0 or higher) - just select "IPSec Xauth PSK" and it will work.
Search at google and you will find instructions directly from AVM for VPN connection from fritzbox to an android device.

newbie question: Using IE through WiFI?

I just purchased a MDA III and would like to use IE through the WiFI, but the option is not available on the connection list. Is this possible? If so how do you do it? I am able to connect to the wireless network.
Thanks,
Just launch the wifi and start surffing....of course you have to get ip from the wifi network first.
This may help!

ad-hoc support

Hi guys,
As the title suggest , is there an ad-hoc support for the gn?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
any answer????
Openen Hotspot with Connectify
-Nokia E51 connects (with and without encryption)
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus doesn't even show the hotspot.
adding the network manually is not working either

i tired every app and method available with no luck
i think the solution is to add ad-hoc support
I think the default wpa-supplicant doesn't support adhoc. We need to replace it with one that supports. I don't know if someone has made/fixed it yet. Still waiting for it as well.
Ad.Hoc
did you manage to connect through Ad.Hoc? I cannot find Adhoc in my Galaxy Note!! Can we enable AdHoc on Note?
Also need to use adhoc but my Nexus doesn't detect any...
i will try tonight,as i has my laptop at my GF's house.and wont be there until tonight .
but yha. if nobody has posted til than.
than be sure to watch out for my post
Btw,did any one of you guys try wifi direct?
im kinda unsure what it really does.
Did some search in Google and previous NEXUS had the same problem some users were telling to change wpa_supplicant in /system/bin but I think the one they where providing its not compatible with SGN.
As someone already said, I am not even able to see the an adhoc wifi network with my Galaxy Nexus.
My device is rooted but so far I did not find an easy solution to enable adhoc wifi.
However the same adhoc network works perfectly with an EEEpad transformer, so apparently the wifi client is already modified in the Asus tablet.
Has there been any update to this? Been searching this site and others and it doesn't seem like a wpa-supplicant file that can see Ad-hoc networks has been created yet.
I use Connectify - works pefectly.
Supposedly the 4.0.2 update should bring ad-hoc support.
I'm eagerly awaiting the roll-out... (Should have happened ages ago, but somehow it's taking quite a while to propagate everywhere.)
I suppose you could always go ahead and flash your own ROM, but personally I prefer to wait for the official OTA update.
I'm using a 4.0.3 ROM and before that had stock 4.0.2 and no ad hoc support was/is available. There is Wifi Direct which acts like ad hoc but that only works with other Wifi Direct devices.

Oh, Bother!
I was betting on 4.0.2 to solve this, but as you say, it appears that it's only the wifi-direct that frequently gets billed as 'ad-hoc-like' connection.
Is there any other way to enable ad-hoc connections?
Apparently on other devices there exist modified wpa_supplicant files that enable ad-hoc, but so far I haven't seen anything for the GN.

Use bluetooth to connect to your computer and share your internet connection with your phone.
I've tried it on windows xp.

Hello, I want support for Wi-Fi AD-HOC networks because on my house I don't have a local internet connection using a cable for use one wifi router, so the only way to have wifi on my house is repeating one Wi-Fi connection on my old windows XP desktop PC, it's a Pentium 3 so I can't install windows 7 for create a real virtual Access point, I just can create a AD-HOC access point with windows XP.
You want to share your data plan (phone 3g Internet) with Windows xp, then use your phone in wifi AP or USB teter.
On winXP you have to share this connection to your Lan port or your adhoc connections.
Is this right

No, you not understand me.
I'm repeating right now my neighbor Wi-Fi connection with my old PC with windows XP, the problem is that I CAN'T FIND the Wi-Fi connection that I'm repeating with my android cellphone because using Windows XP i only can create AD-HOC hostpots, not normal Access Point like on windows 7, the problem is that I found on the web some wpa_supplicant edited files but doesn't works for me on my s4 mini, when I put on the folder and I try to enable the wifi, don't turn on and I'm forced to return back to my original wpa_supplicant.
I only need be able to see and connect to AD-HOC networks with my s4 mini, don't care about my windows XP PC because the problem is not there and I can't upgrade that old PC to windows 7 too, that's impossible for the hardware.
Oohhh I see your issue, Android does not support ad-hoc, sorry my bad I tough it does
I have w8 in my office and I share Internet to my phone using a USB card I thought I had an adhoc but I think it's not ad-hoc like winXP, netsh start hostednetwork
The solution I think is to use a wifi router connected to the Lan, they are usually cheap, buy a router capable of repeat that signal
Have you tried with Linux there are distros for slow/old machines

Your connection is not AD-HOC, it's infrastructure mode that mean its like a normal Access Point, I can't use a router because I don't have lan cable I just use one Wi-Fi card to connect to my neighbor Wi-Fi and another to repeat the signal using connectify to create the AD-HOC network, in this case I can't use a router, I was thinking on that use a Linux for create a fake AP, it's my last option, but I still thinking about use the AD-HOC network on the s4 mini, is possible because I have a modified wpa_supplicant on my Ainol tablet and I'm able to connect to the AD-HOC network like another normal wifi, and using a app called Wi-Fi manager on my s4 mini I can find the AD-HOC network and try to connect but, nothing happens, I think it's fault of a stupid stuff and maybe someone can have the answer, so, my question still open!
If someone knows how I can connect to the AD-HOC network, please let me know!
Thanks for try to help me fburgos
Well i learn something thanks.

Hahaha, your welcome!

Unable to detect wifi network...!!!

I am using D-Link 2750U ADSL router, the issue I am facing is quite weird. My Phone, Laptop, Nexus 7 Tab can see Wi-Fi Network in range but Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (10.1) cannot see Wi-Fi network. I tried connecting it manually by providing SSID, it says Network not in range. Interestingly, Samsung tab connects to Wi-Fi network in my office without any issues. So I am clueless as to where the problem is – is it with Router or Tab? Can someone help please

crash your router, try again
access your router, check your settings, history
try unsecuring your wifi, seemif it picks up, then resecure
tab does 80211 abgn, check you're setmfor wpa2-passkey
in your tab if always scan is enabled, toggle it
check system/etc/wifi/nvram* - if present
it's most likely the router and the tab.
Issue resolved (hopefully) by setting channel to fixed number rather than using auto option in router wifi settings.
Interesting aspect is my phone, which is also samsung (s4) and laptop had no issues.
@heeemz
channel!, Uhhh, weird,
My best guess is that you have a router with Full open channels like for Europe or Japan and that the TAB3 is an American version. So as American Wifi is not allowed to transmit on EU/Japan extended frequencies?
