* I am not responsible for bricked devices, broken hearts,
* thermonuclear war, you getting fired because the alarm app failed, or
* unfulfilled sexual partners. Please do some research if you have any

* for messing up your device, I will point that finger back at you and laugh. */[/COLOR]
CREATE A FOLDER ON YOUR PC'S HARDDRIVE [C:\]CALLED "MY WILDFIRE S" OR SOMETHING LIKE THIS, FOR PUTTING ALL IMPORTANT FILES IN IT
STEP 1, UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER
Code:
[COLOR="Red"]After you're Bootloader got unlocked your phone will be factory reset!
If you want to make a backup of your existing ROM and files first, do [SIZE="5"]STEP 2[/SIZE]
and [SIZE="5"]STEP 3[/SIZE] now and then proceed to this step again![/COLOR]
1 Go to http://htcdev.com/ and register! After you've registered, unlock the Bootloader of your HTC Wildfire S! You do not need to do the steps on the first page, go Android SDK Tools, Java Runtime Environment and HTC Sync! Also install the ADB and Fastboot drivers!
STEP 2, RECOVERY INSTALLATION
METHOD 1, VIA PC
2.1 Download a working Recovery image on your PC, for example this one !
2.2 Make sure you have ADB and Fastboot drivers installed on your PC! If you can't understand this Tutorial, google for one in your language!
2.3 After you installed ADB and Fastboot drivers on your PC, you have to connect your phone in fastboot mode (Bootloader > Fastboot) via USB Cable to your PC. Then it should say "Fastboot USB" on your phone's screen. Open a command prompt on Windows - click the Windows button and "R" at the same time on your keyboard, in the search field type "cmd"! After, type - with phone connected- :
Code:
cd C:\path to recovery\
and enter!
2.4 Then, type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
and wait for it to finish. Select "reboot bootloader", then "recovery" and you should be done!
2.5 Wait a few seconds, until in cmd it says "finished total time x.x.x.x.". Then disconnect your phone, close the cmd window. In Fastboot select "Reboot Bootloader". Wait for it to reboot. Select "Bootloader", wait for HBOOT finishing its thing. Then select "Recovery"!
METHOD 2, VIA YOUR PHONE
Code:
You need to be [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878031"]rooted[/URL] to work with this mehtod!
2.1 Download a working Recovery image on your device, for example this one and place it in the root of your SDCard [/sdcard] and NOT in a folder! For that, download a File Manager from Google's Play Store, navigate to the folder "Download", cut the file out and place it in "/storage/sdcard0" [the root of your SDCard]!
2.2 Make sure you have the Terminal Emulator installed on your device!
2.3 Open the Terminal Emulator on your device and type:
Code:
su
and hit enter! In the SuperUser-Pop-Up-Window select "accept/allow"!
2.4 Again: Make sure that the recovery.img is in the root of your SDCard [/sdcard] and NOT in a folder!
Then, type:
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
and hit enter!
2.5 You might get a stream of almost identical looking code after hitting the enter key, this is normal, as long as you got no error messages in the code and you got a "#" at the end!
Then you can type in this:
Code:
reboot recovery
and hit enter! This will take you to your new recovery's home screen.
HOW TO BOOT INTO A RECOVERY
Power your phone off. Hold down volume down and the power button at the same time. Wait a few seconds, until you get to a screen with three skating Androids at the bottom. Without doing anything HBOOT will start to search for a PG76IMG (another method to install a recovery) on your phone but it won't find anything. So if you see the main screen again, navigate with the volume down button to recovery and confirm your decision with the power button. Now you'll see the HTC Logo and after a few seconds, you'll see the home screen of your Recovery.
STEP 3, NANDROID BACKUP
3.1 Boot into Recovery (Bootloader,Recovery), select "backup and restore", enter with power button and select "backup",you're now doing a "Nandroid Backup"!
3.2 After it finished, take out your Phone's SD Card, and plug it in to your computer with an micro SD Adapter.
If you do not have such an Adapter, select "reboot system now" in Recovery's Main Menu, and connect your phone via USB cable. On phone's SDCard, go to clockworkmod > backup, and pull it into your created folder!
3.3 If you want to save your contacts, select in "Contacts", with pressing the menu button, "export to sd card". After doing this, put the vcard - stored on your Phone's SDCard - into the created folder!
STEP 4, ROOT YOUR PHONE
4.1 Connect your phone via USB cable to your PC, make a right click on your phone and select "Format...". In Pop-Up window, select "FAT32" in the second row, then click on "start formatting". Yes you read right: Everything on your Phone's SD Card will get wiped. That's why I said, backup your data!
4.2 Download the root.zip, put it on your phone's SD Card. Shut down your phone!

For method 1 it shouldnt be cd C:\path to recovery\ but rather cd C:\path to fastboot\ and you should add that the recovery.img and the fastboot should be in 1 folder. Method 2 wont work cuz you are assuming the person that is reading your guide doesnt have SU. Or explain how to install SU w/o custom recovery trough adb.
What version of recovery did you provide in the link above???

Can't you backup your apps before rooting? Nothing like TB? A bit surprised that rooting wipes everything.
Also, could you use ROM manager to install CWM?

Too colourful, but nice.
Will htcdata2sd script will work on this rom to increase internal memory ? Please tell the internal memory for this rom ?

It's written how you can backup It's 'cause you lose your warranty. You'll also need to wipe everything when changing your ROM!
Yes, you can use ROM Manager, but to install ROM Manager you have to be rooted. So you need to install CWM Recovery first

Stop being so precism! The people reading this guide know what I mean. Please only post REALLY IMPORTANT things and not sth like this!
Further, wouldn't it be mean if I'd tell them that they've lost their phone's warranty after they did these steps?
Thanks!
Real quick, about to start this, 2 questions, after applying root can you just keep the default ROM with root or do you have to install a new ROM? Also will this work on a Wildfire S from virgin (aka i think it's a marvelC)? Thanks!

STEP 1, Unlocking the Bootloader of your phone:
1.1 Go to http://htcdev.com/ and register! After you've registered, unlock the Bootloader of your HTC Wildfire S! You do not need to do the steps on the first page, but download the files that are standing on the right site of the page: Android SDK Tools, Java Runtime Environment and HTC Sync! For ABD and Fastboot (needed) follow this procedure!

Sorry to be a pain but I am having loads of problems (and I rooted and flashed my xperia play fine)!
My wife's wildfire s had an OTA update a few months ago, after which the wifi does not work. There is no update or way to re-flash (or reset) without unlocking the bootloader, so I registered and downloaded the RUU from the HTC dev site but this does not work because the HBOOT file is older than the installed by the OTA update.
I have tried creating a goldcard and flashing other stock roms to clear the problem, but without success!
When you said "You do not need to do the steps on the first page," do you mean that I do not need to download and flash the RUU?
Here is the phones details, can anyone tell me if there is a RUU or radio module I can flash to fix or unlock the bootloader?

Unlocking bootloader and Rooting
Unlocking BOOTLOADER
Things to Remember
o This guide is only for the HTC DESIRE SV. Do not attempt the following steps on any other device.
o The warranty will be voided after the unlock.
o Make sure your battery is charged to at least 80%.
o If you are unsure about any step, ask us in the comment section before proceeding further.
Thing to be Done
o All the files will be wiped after the unlock so take backup of all your important data.
o Enable USB debugging from the Developer options.
o Download and install the HTC Sync Manager from this link.
o Download Fastboot zip file from this link and extract the contents into a folder namedFastboot.
o Disable antivirus software on your system to avoid unnecessary interference.
Step-by-step Guide to Unlock HTC DESIRE SV Bootloader
o Go to the website www.htcdev.com and register yourself. Make sure to verify the email to complete the registration process.
o Login to the htcdev website and then go to the Unlock Bootloader page.
o Click the drop down devices list Under supported devices and select the option ‘All Other Supported Models‘. (select htc desire because htc desire sv will be not in the list)
o Click on ‘Begin Unlock Bootloader’ and select Yes on the confirmation screen.
o Acknowledge messages on the Legal Terms and click on ‘Proceed to Unlock Instructions’.
o The next page with unlocking bootloader instructions will give you 4 steps to follow: Disconnect mobile from the PC if connected and then switch off the device. Then pressVolume Down button and Power button to start the device in Bootloader mode. Once it’s in Bootloader screen, highlight Fastboot option and press the Power button. Then connect your HTC DESIRE SV to PC via USB cable.
o Click on Proceed to step 5. But it’s not required to follow the steps mentioned in the second page of htcdev site. Instead you go to the Fastboot folder which we have extracted earlier and hold the Shift key and at the same time right click on the free space. Select the option ‘Open command window here’.
o Windows command window will appear like ‘..\Fastboot>’. Now you need to enter the following command in the command line fastboot devices (This command will tell you whether your device is detected by your computer or not. If your device shows you can go ahead with the next step. If the device is not detected the command screen will not show any information and in this case you have to re-install the HTC Sync Manager and reboot your PC. Then redo the tutorial from the beginning.
o Keep open the command window. Then go to the third page of instruction in htcdev by clicking on ‘Proceed to Step 8‘ button.
o Follow the steps mentioned in the third page of htcdev site (from step 8 to step 10). When all the steps are done, click on Submit button.
o If all the steps are done properly you will get a message ‘Token Submitted Successfully!’ and the Unlock Key information is emailed to you.
o Open the email from HTC and download the attached file named ‘Unlock_code.bin’.
o Once the download is done copy the ‘Unlock_code.bin’ file to Fastboot folder.
o Now go back to the command window and the following command: fasboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
o Now the HTC DESIRE SV will get a message to Unlock bootloader. Press Volume up and select YES, then press Power button to confirm the action.
o Your HTC DESIRE SV will now restart and ask to complete the factory reset process. You can now disconnect your device from the PC.

INSTALLING CUSTOM ROM:
1. Fill the firmware to the memory card. (No need to unpack)
2. Turn off the phone. We take out the battery and insert back. Turn it pinching button VolDown + Power.
3.Select Fastboot, select Recovery, get into the menu CWM Recovery.
4.Use volume keys to select backup and restore and select backup. Wait for 5-10 minutes. CWM Recovery creates a backup of your system in the card catalog type clockworkmod / backup / date backup. Rename this directory is not recommended! To organize the directory must to 1GB of free space. If necessary, it can be transferred to and stored on a computer folder with preservation of architecture. Then, when you install custom firmware failed or that fails, you will always be able to restore the original state of the system: backup and restore → restore → select → confirm by Power button.
5. After a successful backup system, go to the firmware kernel.
From the archive IMG Galickijj sews kernel (boot.img) is mandatory. (manual firmware kernel header)
After flashing the kernel go to Fastboot, select Recovery, get into the menu CWM Recovery.
proceed to the cleaning system (Wipe, Wipe), the cache from the old firmware.
choose in CWM Recovery point to:
- wipe Data / factory reset
Advanced / wipe dalvik cache
Go back to the main menu CWM Recovery.
6. Go directly to the installation of the firmware. To do this, select the menu item CWM Recovery
- install ZIP from sdcard → Choose ZIP from sdcard
- choose a file
- confirm by Power button
After installing CWM Recovery will show you the message
Install from sdcard complete.
Doing a reboot.
Be patient, the first load system is long, wait about 5-10 minutes until the system is booted.

For /efs backup/restore see this:
Backup
Before all make sure you have a full cwm backup. Enter in terminal emulator and type:
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/mnt/sdcard/efs.img bs=4096
With this command you made a backup of your efs partition (that contains imei and other essential stuff). Enter with a file explorer in internal sd and see if you find 'efs.img'. If yes, you backed up your efs. It should be around 10,5MB. Now connect the phone to pc and copy efs.img somewhere and guard it with the price of your life .
Restore:
Open terminal emulator and type:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/efs.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=4096
Click enter and reboot. If after reboot you don`t have imei or you may be in safe mod reboot again. Bootanimation may get stuck and the phone may reboot by itself. Don`t worry.. It installs your efs back.
I tested the method:
-made a backup
-deleted efs folder - returned no imei, no baseband, no wifi, no nothing and safe mode.. scared the crap out of me
-restored efs.img with the above commands and after first reboot all was back..
You can read more of it here.
#I`m not responsable for anything. Do it at your own risk. The method was tested by me, so it should work on your device too.
To bypass flashing stock recovery:
LondonMpee said:
If you have root from flashing CWM then you can delete (or move it out and keep as a trophy!) a file from /system folder called reboot-from-recovery.p before you try flashing CWM again.
This seems to be the thing that keeps restoring stock recovery over CWM, I checked again last night and it's still CWM 6.0.4.6 :good:

Handy topic. But i would advice people not to install TWRP or CWM but instead just load it once needed with fastboot.
Because it might still have some problems and once it goes wrong, your device will be bricked.
I am not sure how far the development is for armani regarding TWRP and CWM, I've been using the beta version of CWM without problems howsoever.

TUTORIAL
Step 1 : Unlock Bootloader to flash CWM / TWRP recovery
GUIDE : UNLOCK BOOTLOADER
RECOVERY : DOWNLOAD
I DID NOT MAKE THE FILES TO UNLOCK BOOTLOADER : EVERYTHING WAS DONE BY :
SALMAN986 AND PRIYANSH21
I recommend using cwm
STEP 2 : Extract the stock rom to CLOKWORKMOD/PHILZ/TWRP in sdcard/sdcard1
IF YOU CANT FIND THIS FOLDER > YOU CAN BACKUP YOUR ROM AND CANCEL IN BETWEEN SO THE FOLDER IS CREATED AUTOMATICALLY
STEP 3 : select restore or advance restore
VOILA - The stock rom will be restored
WITH ROOT (KINGROOT) AND BUSYBOX
IF YOUR DATA IS NOT INTACT / PHONE DOESNT REBOOT , CLEAR DATA & CACHE FROM RECOVERY
BE SURE TO LIKE MY WORK , AND HIT THE THANKS BUTTON

PLEASE LIKE THEIR WORK TOOO , WITHOUT THEM WE COULD NOT HAVE THE TAIWAN STOCK ROM FOR OUR DEVICE

Hey, you can do as follows:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Requirements:
* PC
* CWM/TWRP Backup
* CWM/TWRP Installed
* Winrar/7Zip
* Brain
Now the real-deal..
1. Copy the backup from Phone to PC
2. Extract system.ext4.tar file with winrar/7zip, you
will get the system folder
3. Collect the boot.img from the backup
4. Now collect a META-INF folder from any custom
rom/small update zip which is made for HTC Desire 526G+
5. Now select META-INF,system & boot.img, click
right button of your mouse and select 'Add to archive'
now select archive format 'ZIP' and press ok
6. Your flasable zip rom is ready. Just copy it
to your sd card and flash with CWM or TWRP
7. Done!! This will flash the stock Taiwan System to your device.
Make sure to hit the thanks button!!
P.S. Can you give the link for Indian Stock ROM.
Thanks.. i followed the procedure suggested by you. Really it is working. Is there any possibility to edit the source code and (As per my customization) compile, generating the images and flashing back. If yes which cross compile tool is required and how to get source code.
Philz touch recovery download for STEP 1 , Instead of using CWM / TWRP
