android based light switch?! maybe awesome!! - General Accessories

Admins, how do i delete this i found a better place for it on the forum? Can you please remove it i cannot figure it out.
'http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/491880/emal/4784946'So searching through sites like kickstarter i found this android based light switch.
Found this touchscreen lightswitch with wifi that's trying to get funded today.
The nLine model looks very promising and i already have ideas of IFTTT to notify via my house lights. I hope this gets funded in fact have already funded it some myself. i got the $75 early bird for the nline switch and a usb outlet. The idea behind this looks great and i just wanted to share this in case no one else has.
Hope this is the right place to post to. Admins feel free to move this or even remove it if I'm completely in the wrong here. It just looks like a very neat invention to me. What do you all think? I read something about a source code being released once they go into production so the android device could be modded or new software added.

new concept

if anybodys a member at mp3car.com then you may already know this.
heres what a couple guys over there are working on. theyre developing it for the iphone, but im hoping with enough interest somebody can get something like this going for winmo. anyway what theyre doing is allowing the iphone to accept input devices via bluetooth such as a mouse and keyboard and are currently working on an external touch screen monitor. heres a vid of the mouse and keyboard in action

a lot of you probably are thinking whats the point? well if one of your hobbies is in car entertainment then this is going to completely change the way people mod their cars.
i would LOVE to have something like this for tp2 and would definitely be willing to pay for the software.
hopefully this sparks some developers interest and can get it rollin!
theres so much NEW technology being released just TODAY for similiar things it will blow your mind. Look up the current CES in vegas. I use the Engadget site to check up on things take a peak.
Oh yeah awesome new concept. By the way Ford is allowing developers open access to their new hybrids check that out too

Help port android on Sony Dash.

can someone help port android on my sony dash
As for the Sony Dash tech specs, it's got the 7-inch touchscreen with gesture support and a WVGA 800x480 resolution. The Wi-Fi is 802.11b/g and it includes a 500mhz processor. And accelerometer.
this is able to support android hardware wise. ive seen android phones with 500mz processor running 2.1
Hope this gets done
I just recently got a Sony Dash. It's nice looking with a nice screen and I like the capacitive touch, but other than that, I'm not too impressed. I don't like any of the available themes, and it is very slow and sluggish. I don't like how it doesn't have any kind of storage and has to re-download anytime the theme or channel apps are changed.
Basically, I think this thing would be a ton better with Android on it. Android widgets are a ton better than the Chumby apps and I would prefer having a "home" screen where I can place them anywhere I want rather than being locked into the half dozen available themes. I hope somebody takes on this project.
Does anyone have news about being able to port Android onto Sony Dash?

I would be willing to contribute a Dash to someone that is legit and could get something done for this. I just got the new HID B70 with the battery and the OS is awful! If anyone can do it, I know it's the guys on this site, you guys are the best!
Yeah, the OS is definitely awful. That Chumby crap sucks hard if you are used to Android.
Any chance there is someone working on this?
Count me in
I was looking at a Dash on Sellout.woot for $79, for my 6 y.o. daughters room. I would buy several these if someone ported android to it. This has all the makings of an incredible clock radio with android. The stock OS does seem to suck. For the development community, i think this has the same potential as the gTab. A fine piece of hardware with a crappy OS, but this would add a new category. As a nerd, (I am a chemist, unfortunately not a an android wonk), I find this to be a great opportunity.
To give a commercial value to this, I would buy the ported software for ~$20. While $20 from one guy is not interesting, perhaps this is something that could be sold and really up the value of the Dash. If 20% of Dash buyers bought the android port, it could be worthwhile as a business. God knows sony dumped a load into it.
Here's what I could dig up on the Sony Dash.

Probably the biggest barrier is a lot of the Sigma Designs stuff is closed source. From what I found here:

Access to the SDK is expensive.
Sony is shutting down their developer server in February 2013. Now would be a GREAT time to port Android onto the Dash...
I use a lot my sony dash and i hate the OS!
Its aweful!
I will pay 30 bucks by paypal to the guy who port android on the sony dash!.
theres a usb port so it willin't be too difficult to port it!
and theres nothing about this device on the web :s.
Sony just stopped to support it so it could be the great moment to port it before we can't do anything with it!
You can find all the softs for the chumby at the sony site
i would donate 30 bucks also
I would gladly donate to an android on dash project.
I would also donate to a project for Android 2.x on the dash.
In fact we might be able to use Cofundos.org to supply a method to fund development: http://cofundos.com/
I'm in for $30 as well. Really need to get this thing hacked
What's the first step? Compile an Android-compatible kernel, and flash it to the Dash and see if it boots?
If so, we have kernel source, so that part should be possible.
But, how do we flash a custom kernel? Anyone know?

Hello,
I will put up 50 or what deal we have to to get this done, need someone to take this tv (insignia ns-42e859a11) that is running a chumby app system and make it run the android app system. I can give any info need on my tv and android if needed.
I also found this and wanted to see if this might help in some kinda way.

The Sony Dash is slowly being shut down by Sony.
I'll offer $40 US to anyone who can port a 4.0+ Android ROM to the Dash with working WiFi.
I hate to bump such an old topic, but it seems like there hasn't been any development here at all. I wanted to chime in with some of my findings.
Kit Wood at hackadashery.blogspot[dot]com (sorry, can't post links, new member!) has made some discoveries.
Also, using netcat, its apparent that the Dash is pretty closed down. Port 22 is a no-go, while 53, 139, 445, 548, appear to be open.
Attached is the control panel swf, as well as all the assets I was able to pull from the swf file. Nothing too exciting, it seems. If anyone knows anything about swfs, take a look.
This thing is truly a bizarre device.
swf source code
I was able to extract the swf source code.

Some Ideas on KIN Improvments without replaceing the OS

I had some ideas this morning on what we could do to make the OS and usabilyity of the phone greater without hacking (I rolled out of bed and fell on the floor and then it came to me lol. Ironic right?).
*This will of course involve the browser which isnt the fastest but not the worst.
What if we made web applications for the KIN and a web apps store which basicially is like an android market turned into a mobile version and KINafied a bit and instead of downloads has links to webapps people have found and/or made. I would be willing to ut time into it if someone else will help and if you guys want this.
*Please leave a comment on your standpoint.
I stated this before. It was a work in progress called WebOS. I stated the idea, then people started to get involved and made it happen. Doesn't look like it will be done.
Yeah I know and it was a good idea so I stated it again because for some reason your posts always get passed off as bad, but I think some of them had good ideas.
That's not entirely true. I get impatient with people when they say "Just release the damn hack already" Or "Show some proof" I got annoyed so I gave up and gave those trolls what they deserved: Stuff to piss them off
True true but are you working on an online web app store optimized for the KIN or not? If you are can I be of any assistance?
I brought up the idea of web apps a long time ago but was simply blown off. I now have a Droid charge but still like to keep an eye on this forum. This is a good idea, but I do not have the apps I was using on my phone before I upgraded. However I did post them soif you look up my previous posts you could maybe as then to your list.

Thanks I didnt even know they were up here. Can you tell me which page or what im looking for?

Sorry to bust your bubble, but your idea wasn't blown off. I stated the idea before you and they tried. I don't know here you were when we started but one of the main person that was in on this (Alex Williams) Left the train ride if you know what I mean. We made some good progress too.
im not so sure about doing apps for the device as long as we cannot really rely on the case or browser hehaviour.
on the other hand,im making some tests that could let you plug your kin on one pc and access the content wherever you want, through web browser
kinda....kino web version. kin on the cloud...whatever
must ask some guys to see if its doable in windows. but for linux, and probably mac it works. i just tested the kinect samples.
also is all done on javascript so if releases is instantly opensource.
tldr; makin something like studio....but on your pc so you will have to have it powered on, and that stuff
Johnwhat would we do without you. That sounds great. My next suggestion was something like that. If we can add our own apps without changing the software Im fine with that too. But changing the software to something like ICS would be a bonus! Can you give a bit more detail on what your program does?
mmm its too late here so i will just say that this will be just like kino but the interface will be by browser and from any device.
except the kin itself haha, will be the host.
this lets you edit the interface and the code in stuff like notepad.
also using css templates, designers csn change the gui, extend it..whatever

I was talking about a single game cached on the phone. Here is where I brought it up back in July 2011. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15759037#post15759037
I don't see were you mentioned this at all and I just reread all your posts. You didn't burst my bubble because like all your posts you are trying to act smarter than everyone.
WEM If you look at my posts I think I listed the games I gound that cached.
Thanks but what im trying to get us to do is make a website based app store with web applications designed for the KIN. basically just until we can crack this thing.
Sounds good I'll keep an eye to see how the progress is coming I thought you could use some games that cached to use source code to put in your site. I will say I got a lot from an open source site and added the caching code and was housing on a local server die nee. Worked perfectly and lated on phone for songs 12hours with no internet

Thanks for your smart comment bud. But, I didn;t post it on here. I posted it on the facebook group. Either way it's the past and it doesn't matter
Okay, well I'm not a member of the Facebook page so maybe you did. Either way it seems like the best workable solution for the kin. It worked great for me while I had my Kin, made the phone pretty useable when not around wifi. However, yall keep up the good work. I still have mine as a back up for my charge so I hope you make some progress. Also if anyone needs some testing I am willing to risks bricking my phone since it just sits in my attic

I think the idea for a "Web store" or something like that, is out of the question. It's a good idea but the browser is slow, Plus we've tried this before..maybe I can ask people to try and do this again
to be honest... develop that would just take one evening.
the other stuff is just making it pretty.
the most imporant stuff is to store it somewhere.
and i may be... "overacting" but i wouldnt bet on someones personal site for storage of my "downloaded" or selected stuff.
Apart from that... well is a pity as kin doesnt accept ad-hoc networks so refreshing could be done from a laptop without internet.

not gonna happen. If electronics guys help us, we could just plug the samsung chip and use the wiring on the right pins, so read it in serial (UART) mode and dump the content into bin files (including possible rom content) like has been done for other Movinand devices in this forum (XDA). Of course no one has interest, and i got no means to do so, even if i had found the samsung documents describing the wiring.
And the alternative, which is decoding what XNA game dev studio says is not easy for me, so imma not gonna do it, and there is no other way to create a installable/runnable app (so no "do half and...." stuff that is on the other thread)

[Q] Arrow smartwatch..?

Hey guys,
(I'm sorry that this isn't about the moto 360, but I didn't know where to put this thread otherwise.)
I saw the Arrow smartwatch on the internet somewhere and it just looked awesome. But I haven't heard from it for months now, I started to wonder if it was actually real, and if it would ever be released. Searched everywhere but couldn't find a thing.
So I was wondering, do any of you guys know something about the Arrow smartwatch? (Release date, price, etc..)
I already contacted the company itself but they don't respond..
[btw, the website looks pretty legit..]
Never heard of it, but it look pretty sweet
I followed this Campaign. They launched on IndieGogo and Kickstarter and both Campaigns were removed after launch.
It looks like they only have 3D renders available but they never created a real working prototype.
The idea itself it brilliant but even on their Facebook page, the last update is of September 2014 so I truly believe that the project sink or somehow it was a sort of scam for Crowdfunding which has never been released.
Four years later I got the Arrow watch. It is Android based but does not use Wear OS. Also it is 5gb not 8gb as originally intended. Camera works well and swivel feature to move camera is great. Hope that XDA developers crack into it.

Please bring back the old style somewhere like "old.forum.xda-developers.com"

Like many of us, I'm not a big fan of these recent dramatic changes. At least make an option for us to still use the older one like Reddit does.

Tbh I don't think this is possible, because xda has undergone such an overhaul, even the thank meter system and the title system has been changed. Having the older version would mean to recreate it so it embraces all the new stuff here, it could happen but that's very unlikely since it's hard work, and the vast majority of the members actually like this revamped version. Give it a day or two and I think you'll get used to it
This is not going to be possible, but we do have a classic theme if you want an older look.
Yeh, need to move forward into the unknown!
The Classic theme helps....
Aw goly, not liking this new site.
Particularly don't like that the most recent threads under their respective sections can't be seen.
If this could be brought back it would be appreciated.
There is no more "old way" anymore, they migrated and moved all the content from the old site to the new site so as far as I am aware, the "old" site is gone. I personally don't like it yet, but with anything new, comes change, and time to get used to it. I am sure in time we will all have a better experience once they finish the migrations and we all get used to it.
I also noticed I cant edit the posts yet (or I cant find a way to do it) in the new system, so I hope its a bug that gets fixed because I make numerous grammar issues the first round (trying to get the info out of my brain tends to be funky the first round), then I clean it up but only when I can edit my post. This could simply be a user error, or possibly an ID10T error.
The amount of work it would take to maintain two completely separate codebases wouldn't be worth the hassle at all.
As for "like Reddit does":
They are owned by a massive company, they can afford to maintain the old site for at least a bit while they build the newer site out. XDA doesn't have the manpower or server power to do that.
It's only temporary, Reddit isn't gonna keep the old site around forever. Just like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook when they did massive redesigns a couple years ago, the old site eventually shut down once they migrated 90-100% of the functionality over.

Yeah I get that small team etc. But no one does an overnight overhaul with half of the features missing/not working. Even mobile app stopped working including the official app. That is very unprofessional. Most sane people would have them both side by side, for sometime, while fixing bugs on the new site and new app. This way users can still have a nice user experience, while getting familiar with newer website transition.
But, well what can I say, XDA is not my company. They can do whatever the heck they want.

On individual forum it's not displaying the lastest post info on the main page forcing you to open each section. The global new posts section works fine.
Doesn't display the user stats on the poster's post as before; more blank, unused dead space.
The "thanks" is all goofed up.
Rather have a smart complicated gf than a pretty dumb one... as their beauty rapidly fades as you get to know them.
Im fine with the overhaul but come on, where are the files attachments on other posts? where are the links? if you will left those, then better shut down this BS forum.

You should know that you are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. This change didn't happen overnight. There was a significant userbase testing the new XenoForo interface for months prior to release so they did exist side by side. Thing is, a testing environment is never the same as the real deal so at the official launch so of course some quirks came up. If anything, you can say they have been working in a very professional manner to work those out. In the first 24 hours after releasing most major issues were already resolved. The biggest one right now is probably still some posts/threads missing. Change is never easy

The changes were announced a long time ago and the announcement was highlighted on top of every section of every subforum. Which are you missing anyway? I see my attachments (like this one) are still present. Mind that the migration is still not 100% complete yet.
