A file named 'efs.img' should be inside 'EFS_Backup' Folder. That is your backup. You should find the folder in the internal memory.

i am not able to see the .img file after backing of the efs through this apk in the phone memory. Currently using es file explorer with root option enabled.( in Carbon 4.4.2 by xenon92). I am in doubt whether any .img file has been created or not. I have not tried the terminal emulator method though.
But using the same apk in stock 4.2.2, i was able to back up the 20 mb size .img file.
I doubt whether I wud be able to restore the same in these custom roms ....just in case it becomes necessary....

Thanks.......

Thanks a lot for this.

You made a backup of your EFS before it was 00000000000000?
If not, there's nothing I can do.
If yes, try restoring the EFS using command line method.

What is EFS folder ?

Hi All,
I came to know the EFS folder is very important in Samsung phones. I didn't cared about it and flashed a different region ROM (XEU->OZS). Each thing is working fine.
I can remember that there used to be some files inside the EFS folder when I had the XEU but now i am little bit worried that the EFS folder is empty.
Many threads on XDA recommend to Backup the EFS folder before flashing new ROM. I have noticed that my Product Code has also changed after flashing the new region ROM.
So anybody can give some details that have I missed something important by not backing up the EFS folder ??
Thanks
Man.....read this:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/backup-and-restore-your-efs-folder-on-samsung-devices/
Are you able to get your IMEI???
*#06# on dialler
Or settings/about phone/status
Also check MAC address is still there!!
There is a backup option in Nitrality, free from Market.....
And, in the link I posted, there is a link to app on XDA, to backup/restore the /efs folder!!!
Are you using Root Explorer or ES to check the folder???

Thanks @irishpancake
Currently all the things are working fine. But I came across the EFS related article after I flashed a different region Rom. So I was little bit wondering that Have I done a big mistake ?? thats why i posted here.
all the basband related things are fine including SIM, Wifi, etc. IMEI is also there.
in ES i wasn't enabling Root option that's why I was seeing the blank EFS folder. Now I have copied this folder manually to my PC.
I also tried to backup through Nitrally, it says backup completed, but i am unable to find the backup efs files.
I also tried Win32 (.net) application but due to unavailability of 4.0 framework , it couldn't run.
I noticed one major thing by changing the different region Rom that my product code has been changed. I think it will not have any effect on phone performance/function.
Actually I am in search of best Baseband (Asia) so that the Radio power consumption can be minimized. So I want to try all Asian Roms to check the power consumption in Radio.
Any further suggestions will be welcome.
Thanks again.
Ur welcome ali

EFS stands for Encrypting File System, which is really important part of networking and communication for Android Smartphones, It also contains your device IMEI data. When installing the Custom ROMs, it is always recommended to backup EFS Data, because these are the places, where you might loose this data and when you lose it, it means you may no longer be able to use your smartphone for communication, ultimately which becomes just a multimedia toy!!

Might be helpful. How to Backup and Restore EFS Data/IMEI on any Samsung Android Phone
If your phone is working fine, there's no need to worry. It's most likely more technical.
Simply copying your EFS folder to your PC is a reasonable idea.....and one which most people would think would work.......
However........
If you had to restore your EFS folder from that copy, it probably *wouldn't* work.....simply because during the copying process, the permissions would have changed, and unless you have detailed knowledge of what the permissions were before copying, they'd all be wrong after re applying........
Your best bet is to do what others have mentioned and use an app to make the backup (and re apply it if necessary). I use HC k tool and then make a copy of the backup it produces on my external microSD card.......

CWM backup with JB 4.2 problem.

Hello ... I have a problem with the CWM and backup.
With JB 4.2.1 we had made some backup and I can see it in the folder /storage/clockworkmod/backup.
After the upgrade at 4.2 when I do a backup, this is visible true CWM in restore folder but in the same folder I don't see the older backup make with JB 4.1.2.
If I try to find this new backup in the /storage/clockworkmod/backup (true RootExplorer) I don't see it ... but only the older backup!
Pratically in /storage/clockworkmod/backup (by RootExplorer) i see only the OLD backup and not the new backup, in CWM restore I can see only the new backup but not the older ... Why!?
Now I have installed the CWM 6.0.1.5
Thnx.
it will be in storage/0/clockworkmod/backup
NO ... I have checked but in storage/0/clockworkmod/backup there are the same old backup files like in storage/clockworkmod/backup ..
No suggestions?!

same happened to me except all my data was erased
... But no other have the same problem!? No other use CWM for backup!?
same here and also using twrp I don'have sdcard/twrp folders.
Now if you are in recovery mode and you go on the "apply zip" option you can see that there are different "partitions" :
- 0
- legacy
- twrp
- cwm/backup/yourbackup
but I can't see the two last folders/partitions when I'm on normal boot with root explorer...
hoping someone finds the solution because I'm on odexed stock rom and I'd like to save my backup on the pc before trying to apply the deodexed new rom ...
with the latest CWM 6.0.1.5 and upwards the backup is in data/media/clockworkmod
the old backups will be in data/media/0/clockworkmod
The problem there is CWM won't see the old backups - I know as I've checked!!
Of course because it checks for backups in data/media/clockworkmod
so a work around to link data/media/0/clockworkmod to data/media/clockworkmod and it can be done via adb or with root explorer

How do you link it to data/media, by copy/paste using root explorer?
I've looked everywhere, the two backups that I can see in CWM are nowhere to be found by my root enabled file explorer....

Does Titanium Backup Pro backup call logs and SMS messages?

Hey there
I have Titanium Backup Pro and I want to perform a full system backup before I go ahead and install a custom ROM (Android Revolution HD). I just used the "Select All" feature and to be honest was too lazy to read through the whole list, so I was wondering if call logs and SMS messages are going to be backed up as well? I chose "Backup all system data + user apps". Or would I have to get a different application for that?
Thanks guys!

Go backup pro is the best, both call log + sms + system setting + mms + apps ...
Thanks for your replies. One more question, since when I restore it would seem to restore system applications as well (which are perhaps older than the current ones because I was running 4.1.2 while Android Revolution HD uses 4.2.1) are they going to replace the current system one or will they be ignored? I see most of them in red, does that mean they are left unaffected?
I use XML import / export for Call logs / SMS / Wifi Points .. You can find it in Titanium > Menu Key > Backup Data to XML under Special Backup / Restore .. These XML files can later be imported using Restore Data from XML under the same menu.
Thanks for your reply. I encountered a lot of restoring problems with Titanium Backup that I decided to reinstall the original firmware (unrooted and everything), then root, and attempt to use Titanium Backup to restore everything to its proper order again. If that doesn't work, I'm screwed!

Rule of thumb, if you're restoring from same base i.e., 4.1.x then it's OK to restore system apps as well but I've always limited to the green system apps for data only. If going from 4.1.x to 4.2.x then Never restore system apps. Also in like manner, some suggest you restore user apps only without data when changing roms with different bases. Sometimes old data can lead to FC.

Any backup apps since Titanium is not working?

Titanium backup doesn't seem to work on this tab (or maybe on 4.3 yet) They updated it but that didn't do it. Anyways now that roms are rolling out I would like to be able to flash without losing stuff Any suggestions of an alternative app for now?

I also had problems with Titanium Backup but it turned out to be problems with permissions even though I gave it full permission. When I loaded up the SuperSU, it said it needed a binary update, and after I did that the problem disappeared. See if you also need an update (it required a reboot).
mine works with no issues on stock 4.3 rooted
The only thing that seems to not stick for me is breaking an apps market link
Well I just backed up just the data in twrp then just restored after I flashed the new ROM. Seems to work great. Better than messing around with tb

The easiest way to do this is by closing TB and then go in your file explorer (i use ES file explorer) and rename TB folder. I usually add an S in the end and when i copy them back, i remove the S. The reason is that TB backup files are being used by app in tablet rather than USB storage. Thus they can not be read.
Also you can freeze TB from Settings.
Then connect your tab via usb and copy it.
I hope that is easier !

IMEI backup/restore tool for Samsung Galaxy S4 T-Mobile SGH-M919
Brought to you by AntaresOne
NOTE: This is only for Galaxy S4 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, Galaxy S4 Active version is here, Exynos 5410 (GT-I9500) version is here.
To devs: modifications & redistribution are not allowed. Contact me before including my work or any part of it in your stuff.
Explanation
What is IMEI?
Wikipedia
Why should I backup it?
When you start to mod your phone, sometimes may happen that you lose it (a bad flash, a wrong mod...) and without your phone is like this. Shortly, you lose mobile network forever.
The Qualcomm variant of Galaxy S4 doesn't have IMEI stored in EFS as most people think, it's stored in another place. Partitions to backup/restore are 8, each is required by the system to have IMEI. These are: EFS (there is IMEI's country code), modemst1, modemst2, m9kefs1, m9kefs2, m9kefs3, backup and fsg. It doesn't do miracles, so if you lose IMEI and don't have a backup, you're lost.
Features
Complete IMEI backup
Autozipping of saved partitions
Installation
Download tool from the link below
Put the zip file in your sdcard
Reboot in recovery
Install zip from sdcard
Choose downloaded zip file
Reboot system
Usage
When installed, the "imeibkp" executable goes in /system/bin. Obviously root is a must. This is not an app, so to run it you must use Terminal Emulator. It's very user-friendly and n00b-approved (joking :laugh, normally you shouldn't run into issues while using it.
Open Terminal Emulator
Write su and press enter (this is to obtain root access)
Invoke this tool by writing imeibkp and pressing enter
To restore just invoke again imeibkp
In case you want to export your backup, it is in /sdcard/IMEIBackup and called IMEIBackup.zip (Internal Memory on PC through USB connection)
If you change ROM you'll lose this tool (you'll not lose a backup already made), in this case just follow again Installation steps

Other S4 variants
If you want this tool for any other Galaxy S4 variant device write me a PM or mail me to [email protected] including a full cmdline copy & partition table.
Through Terminal Emulator or ADB, do this:
For cmdline
Code:
su [B](to acquire root access)[/B]
cat /proc/cmdline > /sdcard/cmdline.txt
For partition table
Code:
su [B](same reason as above)[/B]
ls -la /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name > /sdcard/partitions.txt
You will find two files named cmdline.txt and partitions.txt in your internal storage (/sdcard)
Other Samsung devices
PM or mail me at [email protected] for details.
