[Q] Overheating and shutting off. - Huawei Ascend P6, Mate

Hi
Just got this phone as an insurance replacement and really like it except that the phone gets really hot when using mobile data and then won't wake from sleep. I'm assuming its a heat issue. Using the B112 version of the software. Initially I though it was because it was rooted but even after a reset and un-rooted it's still happening. Think I've pinned it down to it happening when mobile data is switched on but there maybe another issue. Any ideas or advice gratefully recieved. Thanks

Not an answer, but I use mine on full brightness with mobile data on whenever I'm outdoors and browsing, haven't had any issues. Running 116SP01 on O2 in the UK. You could try switching ROM versions and if it still does it flash back to 112 then return it as a faulty replacement?

Think I've pinned it down to screen brightness. Gamed for a good 2 hours last night on half brightness. The phone got hot but I was able to wake it from sleep as normal. Possible that the screen on full brightness generates too much heat when doing something intensive? May try the 117 rom this weekend. Thanks

Upgrade to 118 sorted all the problems I was having. Not a single shut down since. Battery life better, less heat and no brightness issues. Loving this phone now

[Q] Major battery life issues

Ok so I've had my GN2 for about a month now. For the first 2 weeks I could easily go all day on moderate to heavy use. Over the past week and a half however my battery has just started to drain so quickly. I get up at 630am with 100 percent battery life and by 9 I have only 75 percent. This is with only browsing my email checking the news and playing a couple songs through Google Music. Does anybody have any ideas as to what might be wrong with my phone? Am I alone with this?
UPDATE: This actually just happened as I was typing this and has happened twice today. The phone goes through the shutdown screen with the Samsung logo stays black for about 3 seconds then started back up.

what ROM are you running?
what kernel?
have you installed any apps lately that might be running in the background taking up a lot of resources?
I see someone else asked what rom you are using, but assuming you are stock, as I am, I have had a similar battery problem. I tried turning off several native apps, and other things without any improvement. I'm with Sprint and was also being randomly dropped from the network, requiring restarts. I called tech support and was about to get the phone replaced, but they required trying a master reset before doing so. That's what I did (with the hardware buttons, not through the software menu), and to my amazement, my phone is better than new! Battery life is what it should be - excellent, and other problems disappeared as well. Just a thought.

What is the combination of buttons for a hard reset
Seems to me it's up&down volume buttons at the same time; power button; home button. You might want to search that to confirm.

Is there any other way to figure out what is keeping my phone like this that doesn't involve having to buy a 3 dollar app

You're aware that BBS is on XDA as freeware for download, last I knew....Come to think of it...you're not. It is a great tool, well worth the $3USD they charge, and that says alot due to all the $3-5 apps out there that are next to worthless.

[Q] Note2 Overheats while Powered Down?

Greetings,
My brother's Note2 has started being seriously unreliable. Just seeing it today at Thanksgiving Dinner, I witnessed the phone sitting powered off and warm, to the touch. I would estimate it to be around 110 - 120*F POWERED OFF!
When I did turn it on, the I looked at the battery useage, and noted the NFC function was using 30%. I then went into the settings to disable it, but it was already disabled. Then the phone crashed and rebooted. I pulled and inspected the battery. The water marker was dry, the battery was not warped or bulging, and it was not hotter then the processor area of the phone.
Has anyone seen this?
He has a new battery on its way so perhaps that is the problem, however I suspect faulty hardware or perhaps software.
He went to the store and was told he would need to pay $200 for a warranty claim, outrageous!
Thanks in advance!
Matt|ttaM
It would most probably be the battery problem. If u using a custom rom or kernel, reflash/flash a different one.

Just do a factory wipe..
and format all your memory partitions..
i had this crashing issue once.. most probably a rouge app messing up..
Do as @geekynoob said above and after flashing new ROM (possibly Custom ROM) do following :
1. Charge it to 100%
2. Install BetterBatteryStats
3. Install CPU Spy Plus
4. Reboot phone
5. Launch both apps and exit them (they'll keep running in the background collecting data)
6. Take reading through (just look at app screen) both after using your device normally for minimum 6-7hrs.
Share those readings here (through Screenshot probably). We will try to troubleshoot issues, if any remaining, after fresh install.
Btw, I don't think it has got anything to do with battery.
Thanks for the replies, guys.
He is still on the stock ROM. I will try what you mentioned and report the findings.
Just a quick update. He has read this post, and taken your advisements. He says the phone doesn't overheat now, but he is having issues connecting to WiFi.
Any suggestions?

He told me he removed more apps, and now the wifi works and the battery lasts all day again. So it would seem problem solved.
I am just curious how an app could be pegging the battery useage for NFC even though it is off in the settings.

LG G3 shutdown due to high temprature

PHP:
today I experienced a new issue and I want to share it to see if anyone have the same issue.
when I was using my device today a warning window came that says the device has detected a high temperature issue and will shutdown, and the device shutdowns.
I don't know if anyone had the same issue before so if anyone have please say.
Let me answer you through question... What does your pc do when it overheats?
Usually reboots or shutdown, right? It is same with phones.

Overheating, random reboots or shutdowns?
Yeah .
I picked up 4rd LG G3 32GB phone yesterday. All older have overheating defect (and I guess this one will made no different). Its big beast with a lot of power and there seems to be some bugs to deal with. Im sad too, I want to keep this phone and not change to another one.
Just quick test from rest of you: run Antutu benchmark like 3 times (you can restart it after 30% after CPU tests). Sometimes Im unable to make one single run of benchmark and phone shutdown itselfs. Great.
(oh, EUR edition, metal black, 1st wave)
Took my g3 on holiday with me, phone was in my pocket not used for a while. Took phone out pocket to get some holiday snaps, after taking 3 pictures with the stock camera phone over heated and shutdown. Great photo opportunity missed. Took phone back off and battery out so could cool quicker, and left to one side for 45 mins to an hour. Was an overcast day and not very warm. Put phone back together turned on, and fired up the camera. 4 pics later, warning phone over heating, will power off. What good is the camera if u can't use it, missed some good pic opportunitys. Not happy.

Overheating has been addressed in builds 10G and later - what firmware you running?
Also did you disable Thermal protection in the hidden menu (it is billed as a way to reduce lag by some numpties on xda) - doing this will cause your phone to get hotter quicker and stay hotter for longer thus increasing the chances that it will shutdown for overheating.

I just wanted to check if there is anyone else had the same message...
another thing is that there are times when my lg g3 is hotter that when the message came (especially when using the phone while charging) but the message didn't came... so I don't know how is this heat shutdown thing works.

In the meanwhile i'll try the program you mensioned and see the results.

Seems to me that the heat sensor on the batteries often malfunctions and you get this issue. If you wrap some tape around it to keep the top plastic pushed down against the battery pack the issue might go away.

I think I am having this issue on a G3s, the phone used to work normally but lately I can't even run it long enough to get my photos off of it because within 1 or 2 minutes after turning it on it gives the temp warning and shuts down, the phone doesn't feel warm and I wasn't using any apps. I don't understand where to wrap the tape, where is the heat sensor located? I'm trying to push the battery against which side exactly?
Update:
Just having the info that it could be the heat sensor of the battery was helpful, I tried swapping the battery from another phone and the problem seems to have gone away at least for now. I was able to connect to a computer and copy over my files. Will be keeping my fingers crossed....

In compare to my device (CM11 by Rox) my idle temp is around 20 C and MAX 45 C after few hours of Thr Room gaming. In GPS routing mounted to the front window of my car and 500 km. of direct sunlight + incar temperature Around 30 C the max that I was saw is 54 C. Please, check the others opinions of others S3 Neo owners, because for me, your temps is high enough!

Strange but i remember once i had the same issue on using net through chrome and i had a pouch like this. I did nothing. I turned off my mobile for few minuts and it was just fine. But in low signals i have never used chrome again. If your phone is doing this continually then may be there is a problem. Then try to use mobile without pouch.
Relax sometimes it happens.

Serious over heating issue

So ive had my Tmobile G4 for about 3 weeks now. Ive been using the G series since it started. I love the G4 but wow ive never had a phone with this type of heating issue.
There is not a time when the phone js not at least warm to touch. Few times a day it gets to the point where its too hot to touch at all. Forget about making a phone call way to hot to lut against face.
Im not doing muxh of anything either. Web browse etc... But its hot at idle screen off just sitting there.
Anyone have issues with heating? Multiple times its given me the over heating message and shuts off phone.
Last night for example it got to 80c.... Thats fricken hot!
Could factory reset help it? I dont know what to do at this point? Am i just having to get a replacement? As i type this from my g4 sensors showing high 60 to low 70C.
The heat is generating from the top half of the phone btw. Like at the camera it feels like.
Any suggestions or help? Thanks

Is the battery draining abnormally fast? Check the usage for play service, could need that fix
If you live in a hot area like me, such as LA, then you probably experienced phone shutting down while using phone as a GPS due to the overheat.
I've never Had that problems with all of my previous phones but I'd give few software updates for optimization.

Yeah battery is draibing very fasy. I use a battery monitor and nothing is sucking it up.
Also, i live in Arizona where it has been 110 degrees daily. Though it hasnt shut down from heat outside or when using gps yet.
It shut down with over heat warning last night in my apartment where its 67 degrees in here while i was on google.com just browsing. So im clueless right now.
I just cleared cache partition and booted to safe mode to see if it runs any better.
I can leave my phone on my table for an hour and pick it up and itll still be scorching hot doing nothing. Its literally never not hot to touch.
Yeah. That's the mytmobile app... Unchecked all the boxes in the settings. Helped me

My 1st Tmobile G4 Online Preorder had some problems mostly screen. I sent it back. I went to the store and bought one. That one was always hot as well. It was always throwing warnings at me. I had Gmaps on in my car with the AC on and only 70F out the time and it shut down on me. I called Tmobile and did some master reset etc and still was the same. I finally just went back to the store and told them to exchange it after they seen how hot it got in store. Tired to tell me I was at 15days when I went back in but I called in a few days before and asked what day was the 14th Monday or Tuesday I guess they count Purchase day as day 1 and that's what I thought but the person I talked to said no but they called Manager and they honored it. This phone finally seems to be good a few little issue's but they should get worked out soon with software we all hope. The 1st 2 phone's I had the Update Pushed to my phone the 3rd one was already on the phone so might be newer batch ? I was not happy spending over $600 on the phone with the issue's I had on those til this 3rd one which is good so far.

I can leave my phone on my table for an hour and pick it up and itll still be scorching hot doing nothing. Its literally never not hot to touch.

Then I'd say that even when it's doing nothing, it's still actually doing something, maybe just something it shouldn't be doing.
My Verizon G4 ran warm, and I was disappointed with the battery life. Different monitoring tools were unable to point me to what app (?) was causing the problem. Sometimes it would stay cooler after a reboot. Mine was never just constantly hot, however. Mine would be cool sometimes when sitting around, and then sometimes warm. Like taking it off the charger in the mornings, some days it would be cool, others it would be warm (~95F or so), when it had been just sitting there with the screen off.
Just now for example. After i replied here i out my phone on my table. I just now picked it up and it was 74 C. Scorching. Like its just gonna melt ibro a pile of G4 goo lol.
I guess ill call my store on Monday. Safe mode and clearing cache partition didnt help at all.

Are you using a case with it? I recently had overheating issues and figured out that the leather wallet case I was using was causing my G4 leather to overheat. It went as high as 112°5F But as soon as removed it it went back to normal.

Nah I have the black version normal backing not the leather version. I have the thin Tech21 case but i took it off a week ago to see if this helps.
As im typing this my phone is at 75C which is 167 degrees F! So hot!
Possible a Facorty reset could help? I really dont have many apps installed right now either. Since its relatively new ive been slowly installing apps. I started blank, didnt install anything from backups etc. The apps i do have installed are pretty basic. Nothing syncing or running. Ive been clear the recents aswell just to try. Frustrating
Have you tried turning off WiFi? I've noticed occasionally that my phone will constantly drop WiFi on my home router and reconnect a few seconds later, repeating this until I restart the router. All of that constant disconnecting and reconnecting makes it pretty hot...

Yeah its happening regardless. I turn data off when im on wifi and my wifi never loses connection, it stays constant. Though i did try a few days ago using no data or wifi and same dral, just hot.
Have you tried a factory reset? I leave my wifi on and stream music and everything. The only time it gets warm is when I Fast Charge. But I mostly wirelessly charge so its still cool.
Maybe you should exchange it.
I'm second on that doing factory reset. Seems like you have a corrupted profile or rogue app, or both.

What sensors are you referring to? With wich app? That's fundamental
I were having over heating problems on my G4. It were so hot at one point that my 6 year old daughter picked it up to play a game on it. The phone was that hot my daughter actually started crying cause the phone burnt her hand. This is not good. I have an awful lot of applications on my handset, over 300 so before I contacted LG I did a LG backup and reset. I restored probably half the apps what I had and a week after I haven't had a problem and the phone seems to be running as it should. The phone isn't even warm.
My theory is the G4 has 64bit processors. The snapdragon 810 processors were known for over heating and the G4 uses the snapdragon 808 processors for this reason. The 64bit processors deal with twice the data at the same time to the old 32bit processors and this contributes to them getting too hot. I feel that a few tweaks by developers and updates from LG is what's needed to combat the over heating. Time is our friend here and a bit of common sense. When you install a new app and overheating occurs then just remove the problem app. I always see how the app affects the handset now for over heating problems.
The 64bit processors in the G4 are new and need to have some updates to combat the overheating I feel. I recommend a system restore, debloating and only using the apps what you need.
I remember when pc's went from 32bit to 64bit processors. There were processors burning out, melting, water cooling became popular and bigger fans to combat the over heating. In time it sorted itself out so I feel this is the case for the G4 and other new handsets running 64bit processors.
Hope this helps.
Did anyone try unchecking the boxes in the my T-Mobile app? My phone went from 50% to %5 in less than 30 mins running crazy hot. You could also try uninstalling the app updates, or using the debloater tool on xda to disable it.

Same here, although not so hot that it "burns". iPhone 6 got warm but never so hot - software improvements should help combat this over time. +1 on the debloat tool.
One may argue the dead air via removable back cover can act as an insulator vs a compact design. Maybe just get an Otterbox/Thick case so you can't notice the heat as much? Could possibly lower battery lifespan though.
I've had my AT&T G4 for a little over a week. The first couple days the battery life was horrendous so I did a factory reset. The battery life improved greatly however that's when I noticed the top half of my screen getting unbearably hot. Another factory reset didn't solve the issue. So I talked with an AT&T Rep and am taking mine in for a replacement now. Hopefully will resolve this issue. Will update.
