[Q] [Q} Stock battery messed up - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

people please help any way you can. my battery is all messed up. with each calibration I make it is worse. nothing helps. I tried with various ROMs and kernels. The problems started when I was at Supernova and not in the beginning but after few months of using it. I put GingerVillain and immediately calibrated. Phone was charging overnight, I plugged it off at 9 am and he died at 9:10 at about 90%
*
and all the time it dies at about 85-90 %.
*
For each calibration shows me that it was successful.. Chgtf is lit and value is 0x81. After each calibration in my batery batery calibrator shows age 50%.
*
I noticed that when the battery is at 0, it charges about up to some 20% and then immediately jumps to 100 and the indicator lights green.
Is it possible that the battery is bricked or something else?
Any help???
Cheers

i think the calibration is last thing what you can do when battery is aged.
i bought this battery http://www.ebay.com/itm/390392595398?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 and this seems to be good.
Yes and evaluate when you buy a new battery, because i experienced problems with amazon/ebay sellers which traded fake batteries(a lot less capacity as shown), but looked like a original http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457104

JASJAR turns off at 40% battery!! Please help

When I got the jasjar 3 days ago there didnt seem to be any issues, so I upgraded to the Helmi_UNI_AKU3.3_v1.2 everything seemed to work as it should then my battery reached 40% and bam the device shutoff. So I tried the 3.5 and same thing, now I have my original ROM JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.exe back on and its a little better it gets to 33% then dies.
I know this wasnt happening prior to me owning this device as it was my close friend who gave it to me.
Can anyone shed any light on why this would be happening?
Thanks in advance.
Battery
You have to buy a new battery. Your battery is damaged. A few months ago I had the same problem. The Universal battery has a life spam of 6 to 12 months. At a certain point when you drop your phone or flash a new image, the battery forgets its state. It will think that there is enough power left but in fact the voltage is dropping to fast and the phone shuts itself off. Believe me you need another battery.
Thank you
Thank you very much for your advice, I just ordered a new one.
So when I flash new roms I should use my old battery?
Thanks again
Question
Does anyone know why batteries die so fast.
I had a battery the first go out at 20% then it grew to 55%
I couldn't use my Universal for a day.
I went back to the store and got a new battery.
I think, when you flash your device with a new rom and or radio. You should have your device fully charged.
Can anyone confirm?
Not sure on the answer, but I have 2 batteries, one 12 months old the other 2 months old & the Uni with 3.3 on it started this behaviour yesterday whichever battery it is using - roughly 30% left.
I am upgrading my other Uni to 3.5 just now to see whether that one suffers the same.
As I have a new battery & am having the same fault I am not so sure .....

It is a hardare issue, unlikely a software issue.
I do not agree. At first I had the same idea. I thought the device must be broken. I bought a new battery but still I had the same problem. But at the tech center thay gave me a free new battery to prove I was wrong. I got a original MDA PRO battery and when I use that battery it stops working at 2-3%.
1. So order an orginal battery. Use the old one when flashing.
2. Be sure that the battery is fully changed. Flashing can skrew-up the memory state of the battery. When that happens the current sate will be te fully charged state and it looks like it stops at 40%. But in fact it is does never get fully loaded.
This issues have already being discussed and sort of already concluded in many other threads, you can make a search.
Just to summarise,
1. Most of them agree it is a battery problem. Lithium Polymer is no good after around 6 months.
2. Few isolated cases of not battery problem which is hardware related.
3. I always activesync with my old spoiled battery (this is just my personal advice as I do not want to risk my new battery). This also avoids USB charging.
4. Charge only when LED is RED (less than 10%) and until LED turns GREEN (real 100%).
Add 2 more O2 XDAs with HW probs
Mine and a work colleagues Execs (bought early Jan 06 under their ****-up £99 scheme) both started to shut down at odd power reserves as in this thread. Both had new batteries, both before and since new batts sometimes wouldn't charge or recognise the power cables.
Also, both have been back to O2 for repairs with the result when they come back, one is in exactly the same state as before, and the other (mine) stck in splash screen. Both came with a note from O2 saying problem found and repaired, and even a QA check slip (ie:evidently no QA - are they pulling a fast one or what?)
Anyways, both are going back to O2 to try again.
If you are in warranty, get it back to them. Wait for the battery by all means but my experience says this is more than a battery problem.
Sorry, thats not what you wanted to hear I know.
Joe
Hope you get your Hardware problem fixed, like those cases mentioed in the other threads.
Mine is the battery problem like most cases mentioned in other threads.
My new battery now can goes from GREEN 100% to RED 0% to complete shutdown is possible.
But I normally charge around RED less than 5%.

I got the extended battery from Seidio and after an hour it still dropped 10%

I just reset the battery log or whater it is called in recovery and will recharge. Is there anything else I should look at. I am already running setcpu profiles with the profiles suggested in the thread. Is there anything else I should do?

If the battery is literally brand new remember that most lithium batteries have a "work in phase" where it will take a few days and power cycles to work to optimal battery life. Give it a week and see fi you still have the issues, If you do then the battery wasnt the problem and something else is causing a battery drain.
If it makes you feel better i have tried EVERY battery tip trick etc in this forum just about and i still get no where near the battery life 90% of the long life users get.
I have never used their batteries but looking at batteryboss they seem to not live up to what they are supposed to.
On my evo the first 10-15% of my battery drops super fast but evens out after that, I am using stock Battery with Fresh 1.01 and kernal 26 running cpu at max of 922.
I think the batteries are worth it. The one in my palm treo would last a few days compared to stock. I think this one just needs to be broke in hopefully.
The Evo does NOT trickle charge batteries. It charges them to 100% and then shuts off until the battery hits around 90%. Then it turns back on and brings it back up to 100%. This is the reason your battery drops 10% really fast, and then lasts for a good long while.
Total fail on HTC's part. They put a lot of stupid into this phone for how long they've been making phones...

[Q] Battery Level Problem

Hi guys.. hoping some one can help with this..
Im having a problem with the battery level for two month now. Actually I flashed WIUI from CM9. I had no problem with the rom worked fine, then i did battery calibration. I think it was after that I started to see that while discharging, the battery level goes from 30% to 19% directly. So exactly 10% is lost. I ignored it at first thinking it was an issue of the rom. Then I recently flashed CM10 from WIUI. and i noticed the problem was still there. So i redid the battery calibration. Now im having battery level drop from 60% to 49%. Another 10% loss!! Thats exactly 20% lost from my battery level.
Is there some issue with battery calibration app and the froyo kernel. I am having froyo kernel. Thats the only thing thats common since i had the issue in two different roms.
Battery drops explained
Hi,
read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778492
Regards
PS : battery calibration and stuffs like this seems to be useless ; the only thing working is charging the phone switched OFF from 0 to 100% (at least 4h) and once at 100%, keep on charging the phone switched ON.
thanx...
how do i confirm that it is a hardware problem? .. because i never had a problem for almost two years now , until i used battery calibration app. Is there any other solution other than replacing my battery. Thanks in advance.
Actually, I don't know well...
I faced same problem when I went on CM9, coming from GGL ROM (Gingerbread for Green Lens).
I didn't have this "drops" when I was on GGL, they appeared on CM9.
So I don't think that my battery went bad suddenly.
I did not replace my battery, and doing like I described above (full charges 0=>100%) several times (mabe 10 cycles) made battery drops disappear for me.
I think it is known that when you go on a new rom, it takes more or less time (that is to say battery charge cycles) to have stable battery consumption.

[HELP] Battery indicator problem

Welcome!
I have a strange problem.. I bought a second battery to my Desire - 'FOREVER' brand. Battery indicator says whole the time 100% or even sometimes 102%.. And sometimes shows : 20 % and that value get higher and higher.. I like that.. But Its not true value
If I switch the battery to orginal, battery indicator shows normal Value. I try wipe my mobile many times, changed roms and all that 'software' stuff... But still I have that problem.
And The Question : what wrong with my second battery? Its a battery problem? Or My Mobile? Or something else?
Its worth it to give battery to warranty? Any sense and hope, that they fix this problem?
Or maybe every battery that I will use it, not from HTC brand has a similar problem?
Please help me.
Thanks!

You bought a bad battery, warranty won't be much help as they'll send you a replacement, probably won't work either. I'd return it if possible, go for reputable or official brand, read a few reviews before buying. Sometimes paying a bit more in this case is worth it.
Thanks for Reply. Now I trying to use program to monitor battery and Estiminate lifetime of battery after few cycle based on usage level by the user.
The battery is functioning normally. The only problem is then - when suddenly, my phone turns off .. i do not know how much time it will work. It's annoying because I always have to wait until it self turns off.
We'll see if this helps.

Temperature reading after battery replacement

Hello...
I've decided to try to replace a battery in my HTC One M9. I finished it about an hour ago and fortunately everything is working so far but...
I've noticed some strange battery temperature reading. When I'm charging the battery, it shows 25C all the time which can't be true, cause even the case is a little warmer. If I unplug the charger the temperature shown by the software rises immediately to about 35-36C, which is more possible at that time.
And again, if I plug the charger back to the phone, the sensor stuck at 25C.
I'm not sure where could be the problem, is it something wrong with the temperature sensor (I'm not sure if it's builtin into the battery itself) or could it be something wrong with the new battery? Battery is actually charging without a problem, but I'm a little worried about overheating (especially using the gps in the car).
I'd be grateful for any advice
How are you checking the temperature?.
Is the battery an OEM or cheap copy?.
My battery was replaced recently and it is charging fine but acting strange too.
Generally I use 3C Battery Monitor Pro but all other software shows the same readings with this battery - if it's plugged in it shows around 25C, if it's unplugged it's a little more interesting, because when the battery is cooler it shows around 37-38C and when it gets hotter it even drops to 32-33, so now I'm sure there's something wrong with the sensor (I think it's build it).
Speaking about the battery itself - the seller claimed that the battery is original, it also looks like a genuine one, but I have my doubts. First of all it is slightly smaller that my original battery, and now that situation with the temperature makes me think that it may be a fake one.
Anyway... I'll try to return it to the seller and order something I'll be sure is a genuine one. For now I'm waiting for the seller to reply, I hope he won't make any problems with the refund.
Before making any commitments try the app "system panel 2" from playstore. I had best results across the functions with that. 3c caused allsorts of problems for me in the past.
I've been using 3c for quite a long time, never had any problems with it (both 3c system tuner pro and battery monitor pro).
I've also tried system panel 2, but as I mentioned in a previous post - all other software also shows wrong temperature readings. With the old battery all software (including 3c) showed accurate readings, so it's definitely something wrong now.
Compare it to the other temperatures. This stock unviolated phone i have in my hand while typing for the last 30 mins or so is at 37c on the battery and 39c on the cpu, 38c on all other sensors.
My previously violated phone which had a battery replacement, just sat doing nothing but being a phone, is at 34c battery and 41c cpu, others temp sensors range from 27c to 34c.
Systempanel 2 is where i got the temps from.
If you're running nougat try an app by htc called boost+. It really does help a lot for those apps that keep running in the background.
I've also check other temperatures, but it's actually doesn't matter in this situation.
Other temperatures are shown accurately (CPU etc.), the only problem is with the battery temperature. First of all it shows incorrect reading (shows higher temperature when the phone is cooler, and lower when the phone is warmer) and more importantly as soon as I connect it to the charger or to the computer temperature reading suddenly drops to 25C, even though the phone is still warm, and actually is warming even more during the charging. Also when I unplug the phone it immediately rises to 37C.
I have also replaced my battery with one from eBay that the seller claimed was OEM, which in fact is not.
It has the same behaviour as yours. 25 celsius when charging, 35-38 when idle or heavy use.

Thanks for the info. Do you still using it, or did you replace it?
I think I'll try to change mine to the original. I'm worried especially about charging this one in the car. I know that sometimes using the navigation and charging, my old battery could easily reach 40C and more, so it could be dangerous with wrong temp readings.

I am using it from like a month. It's not heating up as much as the old one (which was 2 years old), but still gives me the same SoT - 2-2:30h. Recently I began concerning a little about the 810 heat and the fact the battery is not genuine.
I also screwed a little my back camera when replacing it, so I'm wondering now if I should try to sell it or get an original battery, but if I were in your situation, I'd probably try to find a genuine battery.
Notice how your old one's labels look far more crisp and with better print quality. There's also a barcode on the battery. I think these will be the things I'll be looking for if I go for a battery.
Just out of curiousity, what SoT are you getting before and after?

Yea... I think I'll do like you say. I've already found a seller which has (probably) a genuine battery, at least if the photo is real.
About SoT, it's hard to tell, I've replaced the battery yesterday (or the day before it). For now I only charged it, and checked at what percentage it will shut down the phone (with the old one sometimes my phone was dying at 20%). So I haven't checked any stats yet.

I see.
Be careful when buying the battery, because sellers are lying about being OEM and the image could be fake. You could ask for a real photo or something.
Also about the temperature sensor, I think the reports are coming from the battery itself.
Cheers
Just for the record, I've returned the fake battery and bought one from another seller.
In the beginning I was a little worried, the photo actually was a little different from the product I received - on the photo there was a bar code, but on the battery that I received is QR code and some other production dates. Also there is a little different product number - last 3 letters/numbers are 04m instead of 01m which look like it's actually for M8, but looks like it's compatible.
Anyway... The battery look like it's genuine, works without any problems for about 2 weeks now, it shows real temperatures. It looks like it has capacity as described and first of all - it's perfectly the same size and alignments as the original (which was actually pretty far from perfect in the fake one).
Can you please tell where you bought that genuine one?
Hey and sorry for the delay.
Actually, I don't think it'll help you. I bought the battery from some local seller on Allegro (it's an ebay like service). And just for the record, the battery still works fine
