[apk] Google Maps 6.14.4 - Samsung Captivate Glide

I dont know what you guys think about the new maps, but I think it sux.. It's slower, uglier, and especially the street view with compass mode became slow and choppy. It was perfect, and now it's not enjoyable. So I decided to go back to a previous version, now it works perfectly, here it is.
cheers
UPDATE: I found this thread useful, especially for those who don't have root access on their phone. You can install this modded apk as a regular app, no need to disable the new maps and no need to have root. You can use old maps and new maps simultaneously. Check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49889624
I don't take any credits for this, thank for those guys in that thread.

Not being rooted limits your options (a nice way to say you're dead in the water). On my tablet, the option to uninstall updates and deactivate the maps app wasn't available so what i did was cut the maps 7 apk out of /system/app and moved it to the SD card. Then copied this apk into /system/app and rebooted. The maps icon wasn't in the app drawer so i though it didn't installed but for some reason i went to the market (play store) and there was an option to "activate" it under "my apps". When i went back to the app drawer, both maps and navigation was there now.
It's no guaranty this would work on 4.3 (i'm on 4.2.2) but by not being rooted, you can't even try. Do a little more searching, i found 2 apk's in different places on the web, it just happens i tried this on first and it worked.
Sorry.

it should work on 4.3 , yes, it also works on 4.4 kitkat (nexus 5), I tested it myself. Root is needed, though, I dont know how to install it without root..

good morning
it seems like a problem on JB 4.3 because I couldn't write a file to the /system/app destination. es file manager replies me that there are not the proper access rights to write a file. If I try to install 6.14 from a different location, the installation process starts proper with questions about access rights on my device, then it stops with "x - not installed".
With JB 4.2. ist was simple. I just deinstalled the update to 7.x then the original 6.x version was available. I hope anyone have a suggestion for me
best regards

It gave you that error even when you mount r/w?

I didn't mount r/w, I only copied the file to the existing folder /system/app. The error came while app installation.

It just downed on me that you may not be rooted since you are using Es File manager. But if you are rooted use RootExplorer to copy the file.

ok i did understand, no way without rooting?

I appreciate the APK (and the sentiment about google maps 7). Sadly, I didn't succeed in installing this. I removed GMS_Maps.apk (and the odex - did I need to move that too?) and put them on the SD card. Then put the apk in the /system/apps directory. After rebooting, the original maps 7 still was there, and no sign of 6.14.4 ...
Any suggestions? I'm on an SIII 4.3 (MK3 sprint build) rooted stock.

Google Maps 5.0 APK for Galaxy S

Hey Guys,
I have Darkyy's ROM and it seems the market doesn't want me to download the new update of Google Maps, anyone can post the apk for us ?
Thanks.
EDIT : Well, in fact it downloaded it, here are the maps.apk and streetview.apk, dunno if there is more needed. The maps.apk alone may work tho.
Push it via adb to system\app
EDIT2 : Now fixed
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=465992&d=1292530155
why i have no 3d view on the sgs
This is install 4.5 version
Fixed, it is now 5.0
i cant install it, why?

You have to push it via ADB (I think something like root explorer would work too), you can't just install it like any other app.

Always happens when you try to download an attachment from xda from the browser on the SGS.
Mine updated fine from the Market, but i can't get 3D to work or rotation, do the 2 finger swipe and nothing shows. Anyone else getting this?
Mine didn't work for a while then suddenly did. Make sure you are in a compatible city.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
And you need to zoom in quite a bit...
Hey guys , i'm on Darky's 5.5 and the update got installed just fine.
Make sure you are looking at one of the supported city's to view buildings in 3d , you aldo need to be close enough for 3D to trigger.
Other than that , great update , maps load waaay faster!
somethings wring with update
I'm having problems though. Galaxy S i9000 2.1 stock ROM not showing any update in the market. What could be wrong ? I just go to the market and it's not there. Also any mobile google sites with links or QR are not helping me.
I have Samsing preinstalled maps, do they update somehow different or also through the market ?
Eeerm yeah still not working over here, i searched for new york empire state building, zoomed in fully and tried the 2 finger gesture to enable 3D, nowt.
if anyone have a problem with installation procedure...
and don`t know what push through Abd means...
just rename the file that you downloaded to Maps.apk and just instal it
it will work

Doesn't work. When I copy it to /system/app/ it doesn't show up, even after a reboot and when I try to install it as a regular .apk, an error message pops up.
Sorry to hear that. I've only tested it on XXJVK, so that's perhaps why it's working well for me.

Just gave it a try. Didn't work on my I9000 either. JS8 SpeedMod kernel.

Hi,tks for this apk.
It's only in Chinese language?
It depends on your system language setting. When you have English (try it) it is in English. On non-English system shows Chinese chars only :-(
But fortunately there is English-Only version somewhere in XDA. Maybe not the last version, but usable.

[APP][CYANOGEN MOD] File Manager!!! :D

The CyanogenMod team has been making good progress towards the latest, stable version of its ROM - CyanogenMod 10 - but there's still time for more features to be added before its eventual release.
One of those features is a root-enabled file manager, which was announced on the Cyanogen Google+ page a few hours ago. Judging from the screenshots, it looks to blend in seamlessly with other CyanogenMod features and the rest of the Android OS, with a really nice looking interface. (Screenshots Below)
When you're browsing through your files, you will be able to choose between three access modes: Safe mode, Prompt User mode and Root Access mode. As you'd expect, it will allow you to view files on your internal storage device as well
you can get the apk here:

Simply copy to system/app and set permissions to rw-r--r--

Hey mate, not sure of your association with Cyanogen (so I maybe shooting my mouth off too soon?) but I know you have stated courtesy of Android police, but I was just wondering if you have asked someone from the Cyan team if it is ok to post this up?
They put a lot of hard work into their apps and customisations, and I know that one of their team had made mention in a post the other day that they were starting to get tired of people just automatically assuming that it's ok to post up/reproduce/hack/kang or "claim as their own" the work of the cyanogenmod team without any courtesy to contact anyone in the team and ask first?
It's like they have been labelled like a vendor and acknowledgements becoming null and void cause of 'who they are' and that people going as minimal of just stating their sources like that is enough? I mean I could be wrong in this instance, and I am only relaying the expressions of one of their team, but it maybe worth while just flicking someone a quick PM first as courtesy and second as appreciation maybe?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose? I know your right, but at the very least someone could write a script and put it in a CWM script.
Just for information sake that if you place an app in system/app that a reboot is going to be necessary anyway, and that fix permissions can be performed in recovery that will enable the correct permissions for the app anyway.
From a personal perspective, and as far as I know....most cyanogen mod apps can be installed to the phone as signatures won't clash. If it does install as a user app (as i would expect) then there is no real need to put the app in system. Why bother? RootExplorer and RootBrowser are non factory file browsers and they do not require to be installed in system/app?
Just sayin
---------- Post added at 12:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:43 AM ----------
Oh sorry to clarify and further to what I have posted above. The reason that this app probably doesn't work so well on Touchwiz ROMs like Wanams is because the app is in system and the framework is attempting to disable it because it's signatures don't match. Another reason to try installing as a normal app first.

Just tried... If you simply extract the two apk from the zip you can install them with no issues at all... (I prefer it from flashing...)
The Contact apk is the same as you can find on Play Store, while the Telephone apk is a (lot) newer version than that available on Play Store... Thanx a lot! :highfive:
EDIT: wrong! No problem with contacts, it can be downloaded and installed from Play Store too... BUT Telephone refused to install on Z while installed fine on another MM I use... I'll investigate more on this issue...

Ok, it's possible to install single apks BUT it's needed to install jar & permissions file (& reboot before...) so, for newbies is probably better to simple flash the zip (that is ok, I've cheched...)
Main difference is that flashing after the apps can't simply be uninstalled but become part of the system since they are put in priv-apps... (ok, they can be freezer or removed by a root file manager anyway...)
I'm using it anyway... small differencies for contacts, a lot more (and interesting...!) for dialer...

There's a modded apk here, somewhere, but the problem becomes the caller id functions don't work as it needs to be signed by Google to use the correct APIs. So unless Google messes up like they did with 2.05_rc4 we'll never have an "simple apk" version.

Nope, it doesn't work with stock android nougat on my moto z xt1650-03, retailmx. After the restart the phone wasn't able to open, not a single app was able to recover my phone app; so I applied my TWRP backup and tried again, same result. So I decided to make it work because I didn't want to delete everything again so, this is what I did:
Make sure to flash the zip, and if you can use your phone anymore, don't panic like me...
1. Erase the app via Titanium Backup pro
2. Restart the phone
3. Go to the file explorer, find the zip of the nougatdialer and extract the dialer apk
4. install it like a normal app and voila!
5. grant permissions if needed.
I think the normal apk should work on nougat.
If not here's the nougat zip:

Tell me first how to extract it from my phone?
If you are rooted you have 2 ways.-
- You can export it using some app like (App Extractor, SDMaid, Titanium Backup...)
- Or use the file browser to check '/data/app', or '/system/app', or '/system/priv-app' dirctories. It should installed as a system app, so should be on '/system /...'.
Note: if it has extra files/folders like libs, or similar, better zip the entire app folder, and it to me.
