[ROM] [2014-05-25] [4.4.2] Tempest (OmniROM) [KVT49L] (SplitView) (Linaro) - Nexus 10 Android Development

Based on OmniROM (Home - Omni)
This is a ROM put together from source code and closed-source apps by myself, with scripting for AROMA by me, and contributions to init.d scripting by 3DSammy. It utilizes the stock AOSP Kernel provided via OmniROM.
Features:
-OmniROM! (Split View, Quick Settings flipping tiles, screen recording, GUI translucency)
-CM Calculator
-init.d preservation and support
-AROMA with settings preservation!
-Built with the Linaro 4.7 toolchain!
Tempest Extras:
-ViPER4Android preinstalled (just open it and install the A15/NEON drivers)
-Titanium Backup preinstalled
-SELinux Switcher preinstalled
-Choice of UDN or LMT, with a NavBar build.prop mod option
-Choice to preinstall SuperSU
-Choice of Launcher2 and Launcher3 (Launcher3 has a dependency on Google Search)
Screen Recording (as tested on Manta):
SCR_20131120_111710.mp4 - YouTube

Planned Features:
-Additional over/underclocking options
If you have feature requests, put them in with the knowledge that I MAY NOT be able to implement them yet.

OLD BUILDS: Last Version: omni-4.4-20131121-manta-TEMPEST.zip
GApps Packages:
I personally endorse and recommend Famigo's Gapps package. All builds are installed and tested using the famigo_gapps-4.4.x-v6.3.zip, by me.
Other packages that are reported as working:
"Slim" SlimKat GApps Package - Reported as working
ThunderKats GApps Package - Reported as working well. MAY result in a missing Camera/Gallery
Installation:
If coming from another ROM, recommend a factory reset. The update script auto-wipes /system.
1) Wipe cache/dalvik
2) Install zip
3) Install GApps (4.4) package of choice, and anything else you want to install
4) Wipe cache/dalvik
5) If SuperSU install was declined, flash your superuser
Known Issues:
-Music Effects FC is under investigation. I have the cause pinned down but haven't been able to fix it yet
-Some GApps packages result in a missing camera
Works:
-Everything not mentioned above (Split View/Multi Window is temperamental, but it works)

I have special eyes. I'm at work, at any rate. As soon as I get my car's new tire, get dinner ingredients, I'll resync with a new manifest, rebuild, and test it. I guesstimate it'll all be done by 11pm EST tonight. No guarantees, but its what my goal is.
EDIT: Never got it booting, but did manage to finally cherry-pick multiwindow. Working on getting it booting tonight and tomorrow.

It is now booting and ready for testing. Working on adding my first desired features next. Link in OP.

EDIT: Its now available! Anybody know how th change the name of the output file besides renaming it?

What am I doing wrong dibble? I get the same as on mrRobinsons omni, I get stuck in the setup wizard, it FCs at the end of setup, then wants to start over, I can't get out of the loop. I've tried all combinations of wiping and flashing with no luck.

I've had that issue before on another ROM. Are you using 4.3 GApps?

I'm using banks 4.3 gapps, same one I've been using on Purity, Carbon, and PAC 4.3 in the last 2 weeks.
I get the same error when I just install the ROM plus SuperSU, no gapps.
I'll try a different gapps zip and see if that helps. Thanks!

Thanks so much dibble. That was it! I confirmed banks was 4.3, but still must of had something different about it.

To be completely sure, I've yet to find out why some GApps packages work and some don't, so I decided to simply post the package I'm using. I use this with Trinity Kernel, btw.
Added a few things

Fixed the links, thanks
Sent from my Nexus 10

I'm running this currently. Two points of interest for me:
It seems considerably faster/smoother than the stock rom, and I'm still using the stock kernel.
Multi Window is awesome!!! I have been waiting for this feature forever. It's still a little buggy at the moment, but even with the implementation as it is, this rom is already my daily driver.
Thanks to all involved.

Thanks Most of the thanks goes to OmniROM and the other projects I used to put this together. I'm just the one who wanted a few different things not in Omni by stock
Thinking of swapping the stock launcher for Apex- I mailed the developer and got permission to do so.

OP updated with credit, sources, etc.
22nd October
-Latest sources synced
I'm working out some strange bugs with Apex being built-in... I can't just build it from source and replace launcher altogether, and its behaving strangely. Also working out kinks w/ VLC and reading source code for the Recent Apps/learning how that works

[ROM] [2014-03-01][4.4.2 (KVT49L) AOSPAL][KaosDroid V8.0.0-BETA1]

Code:
*** Disclamer
This is a development ROM expect bugs i do try to find all the bugs before uploading but if you find some don't be suprised
I am not responsible for any devices getting bricked, flash this at your own risk
WARNING: This will wipe everything on /system and /cache
Introduction
Hi all,
Please note KaosDroid is tested on the Nexus 7 (2012) grouper and soon will be tested on Nexus 7 (2013) flo
Based on AOSPAL, as always KaosDroid will be compiled from source, I sometimes do add features from other sources, just post on G+ if you want something adding.
This ROM is based around my needs with a little extra. It is exactly the same as KaosDroid for The Nexus 7 and other devices. I have just compiled it for the Nexus 10, for you to use
This ROM is not only based around my needs, its also built around the community's needs. In the past if they have asked for something to be included or changed in the ROM it has been done.
I have made my own GAPPS and its placed in the gapps directory of my goo.im folder. Its not that much different from the one that AOSPA has, It Includes all the common Google Apps and some extras. It is updated every time i upload a new ROM making sure that all the gapps are up to date.
I dont mind any critism at all as long as its constructive, any ideas are also welcome!

FAQ
Some of these questions have never been asked but if youv'e thought of them or ever wondered why, here they are
Q: Why is this ROM so big when others are about 120MB in size?
A: CyanogenMod alone is 220MB. When you add all my options it gets quite large, e.g. Launchers, Browsers, Kernels and Tweaks, e.g. True Tablet UI, Stock Nav Bar, Alternative Themes, then there's apps like Adobe Flash, BBC iPlayer and a root file explorer.
Q: Have you thought of cutting the size of your ROM down by removing apps such as Flash Player and the root file explorer?
A: I have, But then it means side loading or re-downloading them, possibly setting permissions and alot more time to set up the ROM as you want it, plus its easier to have it all in one place, saves on backup storage, and if you don't want them, don't select them, thats why the options are there.
Q: Why have you changed your base from AOSP to CyanogenMod?
A: Basically CyanogenMod has fixes when it comes to bugs, loopholes and security issues, whereas AOSP doesn't have as many, its not updated as frequent, and doesn't have the CM team behind it!
Q: Can you add support for "this" or add "that" mod?
A: Yes, its usually not an issue, post the request in the thread or pm me, i will add the request to the OP, and add it in the next update, unless its slightly more complicated like gesture support, this will take time and therefore will be added a few versions later.
Q: Why so many releases so often?
A: Simple version: I lost my job and i like to learn
Not so simple version: With Android there is and always will be updates, fixes, customisations and mods that i and the community would like. I try to keep on top of these adding them in and updating regulary to keep the ROM up-to-date, also you get requests, so you add them and release the update, it keeps the community happy and your ROM up-to-date with the latest fixes and customisations that everyone wants.
Q: Why is there some bugs in almost every version?
A: Bugs are like rats, your never more than 10 feet away from one of them (10 lines of code in this case), there are going to be bugs in every ROM no matter how good the developer is. For example, in V3.6/3.6.1 there was an issue with the lockscreen not saving shortcuts, this was an issue with my ROM and any other ROM based on CM for that matter, i cannot help this, it is a CM issue, i have bugs and fixes to deal with that are on my side of the work, if i have time then yes, i will have a look at the issue try to fix it and if i do pass the findings on to the deleloper(s). Also remember that ROM's are always under development, even stable releases.
Q: What make Kaos Droid so special?
A: Besides me? The COMMUNITY! Kaos Droid was originally based around my needs and customisations and what i want. Not only that but the community has a lot of input in Kaos Droid, if they ask for a MOD, customisation or support for something it gets added which also makes the rom perfect for their needs, Kaos Droid started of as a small ROM the community spoke and the community got, its as simple as that.
Q: Why are you including requests from the community for somthing you don't or might not use?
A: Simple there are people/users out there that either don't know how or dont have the time to build a cusom ROM, and why not include the requests 99% of the time i actually use them, i have not had one request yet that i haven't used or thought it shouldn't be included.
Q: What's you aim for Kaos Droid?
A: That's easy: reliability, speed, customisation and hopefully being the best
Q: What made you decide to start building a custom ROM?
A: I liked the work other Dev's were doing and what they achived, so I thought to myself if they can do it so can I.

Looks sweet! Gonna have to try it out...
Could you possibly add KTmanta kernel to aroma?
Also one feature I would love is full ui hdmi scaling(currently it mirrors the 16:10 res to the tv) ... I have no idea if this is possible or if this is a kernel thing as none of the other devs have answered me
Thanks for giving us another awesome option for our awesome device!!
Edit:shared to google+... You must have written that post while I was writing mine lol

I will add the kernel for the next build its not a problem and i will also look into the HDMI scaling
I will try to add both features for the next build
Awesome man thanks!
You will get a lot of people coming to your Rom if you figure out the hdmi
I would totally flash this for _motley's kernel alone, but I assume the OP is a copy/paste and not n10 specific. Other than Trinity are the other kernels working on n10??????
I know the faux kernel works with the nexus 10... That's what aokp uses... Dunno about motley though
No dice, install fails for me…

Many thanks for the output of the aroma installer I will look into this when I finish work, sorry
Also at the moment it is a copy and paste from the N7 thread I have only done this to get the thread started I will be editing it tonight
Just a note, the change log will remain the same across all devices, and device specific change will have the device name in brackets
At the moment the stock kernel is the only one included I am already adding a kernel to aroma and have no issue adding faux and motley for the next version
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
New file has been uploaded could someone please verify that it will flash properly
Thanks
Yeah- installed fine. Seems to run quite well, I like all the install options.
I haven't done much testing yet, but seems stable, no FCs yet.

CyanogenMod 10.1 modded for Galaxy Gio
This project is made with erikcas permissions, big thanks to him.
CyanogenMod 10.1 is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.2.2 (JB), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
This modded CM10.1 (all 3 Variants)
contains additional google libs, permissions and framework files.

for me it's very smooth and it's the smoothest CM 10.1 to Gio, test it!
Finally, games and applications go smoothly as the old Gingerboard!
My config of perfomance settings:
CPU max 825 MHz
I/O set on ZEN.

Hmm did other users also have problems with the proximity sensor?
If proximity works on androidarmv6 rom from erikcas it should also work here in this rom.

lol... there really isn't anything wrong with MF3... some people just have to be on the latest from Samsung.
What do I gain/lose over MF3?
OK, I feel like an idiot asking, but what do I gain or lose running this instead of SHOstock 2.3 that I already have on my S4?
This thread will use ROMs based off the i9505, which receives updates far more often than the i337 (from ATT). As for features, you'll have to follow the OP (sho knows this better than I do).

The ability to switch from lte/gsm/wcdma to just gsm/wcdma and the screen timeout has the 2 minute option where on att firmware its only 1 minute or 3. Those are important to me, if not for you don't switch.

You can try 3minit...:sly: You can try i9505 kernels...I have one glitch with MF3 ( flipboard turns on air view automatically) but not on i9505 ROMs. Personally I liked i9505 ROMs than MF3 as far as I have tried.

I am downloading this now to try it out as well. Thanks Sho for another great option.
But another thing I LIKE about international Roms is some sites (I won't mention what kind of sites lol) switch to the MOBILE VERSION of the web no matter if you have the browser set to DESKTOP on ATT Roms. BUT on international Roms if you set your browser (I use Dolphin HD or whatever it is called now) to DESKTOP you don't get the MOBILE version of the site. So p++n works better OOPS I let it slip

I'm not using that app (I'm using squeaky mail )but I did during testing and it was fine. I'll have to load it up again just to see but I don't see why it wouldn't if everything else google is syncing.

Android OS tops for some reasons. ..I got to figure out later. BBS shows "alarm" and "suspend backoff" under kernel and nothing much under partial wake. Drain seems tad faster than mf3 for me.

Promised myself I wouldn't change rom's since mf3 was so stable..... and here I am.

[ROM] [AOSP 7.1.2_r28] noobbuilds-Nexus 9-WiFi | Substratum OMS7 | 2017/08/10

This is my own custom ROM for the WiFi Nexus 9 called noobbuilds. It is an AOSP 7.1.2_rx based ROM with a few added useful features. I am an old retired guy who enjoys the hobby of builiding and using his own roms. I'm just sharing my rom not competing with the big the boys. I intend to update ROM as AOSP updates.

I was very fortunate that Thyrus took pity on this old retired noob and ported his theme to my build. He and his themes are awsome!!!!

Indeed, LTE does work fine, once the APN is to be entered!
But what's totally weird: an old sqlite bug in AOSP seems back that was gone in 5.1; One of my apps does not work because its unable to write database files
Thanks for letting us know the LTE is working. I don't stop the rild from building so I guess we got LTE LOL. As I said i don't have LTE device so I never checked!!! What is your problem app? I will look around for commit to fix the sqlite bug.

I looked again and it was not exactly the error that would indicate the old bug. And after resetting app data and removing all old files from SD the app does run now. No worries
It's Locus Pro Maps btw.
All seems fine now. Thank you.
thanks for building this! i'm also on an LTE and everything seems to be working perfect! i've tested data after adding APNs, GPS using GPS Status and Maps, and I've installed the Fire/Ice kernel, and everything is super smooth! Thanks again!
Nice to have your rom. Do you take small requests?

You can certainly ask and I will let you know if I am able to accomadate. I really am a noob and learning as I go!!!!
I just wanted two features that are important to me, but may be to others as well :
1) circle battery percentage ( or battery percentage outside battery icon)
2) navigation bar button order change (or a mod with nav buttons in this order recent - home - back)
Thank you

I won't build these into the ROM --- I will look for framework-res, systemui or settings apk mods for these. I'm quite sure these require smali mods. If you find the mod somewhere link here and will try porting to rom. I got the tools. LOL
If you look at paulobrien, he has the MCR Modpack. It's old, but it should have the things you need to edit.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Forums
You could use xposed, more info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/super-alpha-posted-permission-xposed-t3072979 use the SDK 22 arm 64 zip. Flash that in recovery. Then after booting back up, install the installer located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811 then use gravitybox located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/app-gravitybox-v5-0-0alpha-tweak-box-t3037566 and then you should be able to make all the changes that you want to.
I've used it on this ROM so you shouldn't have any problems.
ROM with minimal gapps.
Added ROM with minimal gapps included. See OP #1 for download.
Did notice something... I can't add exchange email as an account. Anyone know why?
I've never set one on aosp email app before but I see what you mean. LOL I will check around. LOL

What is AOSP?
AOSP is Android as Google publish without other modifications. More or less AOSP is the Nexus devices stock rom without gapps. Anyway to get a working system me and @-+BB+- added some changes from CyanogenMod. We added also some non-AOSP features like init.d support, @alucard_24 kernel for better performance and energy saving, STweaks for advanced kernel settings and support for Over-The-Air updates through a dedicated app (OTA Updates). Maybe something else from us might be added, but please do not ask for features to be added because we're not going to add more to keep this ROM small, fast and pure.

TWRP Recovery v2.8.7.0 with F2FS management support: AndroidFileHost
Installation
TWRP Recovery v2.8.7.0 is suggested for installation
Devices supported: I9505, I9507, I9508, I545, R970, I337, M919, L720. (I9515 and I9500 are not supported).
AT&T and Verizon users: since your bootloader is locked, you must be on the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader if you own an AT&T phone, otherwise if Verizon you must be on the VRUAMDK bootloader in order to use this ROM. Do getprop ro.bootloader in Terminal Emulator or through ADB shell to find out which bootloader you have
First time or clean install:
Download the ROM from the link above
Download GApps package for Lollipop 5.1
Put the zip files on your SDCard
Reboot in Recovery
Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Optional: convert to F2FS
Select "Install zip from SDCard"
Choose AOSP zip file
Choose GApps zip file
Reboot system
Update from a previous build:
Via OTA Updates:
Open OTA Updates app
Download the update
Press "Install"
Your device will automatically reboot and install the update.
Manual update with TWRP:
Download updated build from the link above
If you do not have the Gapps package, download Open GApps
Put the zip files on your SDCard
Reboot in TWRP Recovery
Wipe /cache and dalvik-cache
Select "Install zip from SDCard"
Choose AOSP zip file
Choose GApps zip file
Reboot system
We don't have a backup/restore GApps script yet. When you update /system is formatted, so you need to reflash GApps package too. In case you don't do it, Google Apps will fail in endless force closes after boot.
First boot after install/update takes a while, wait at least 5 minutes for it to boot.
To convert cache, data and system partitions to F2FS look in post below.

Thanks for the new ROM!
Good luck!
Waw! The first one! Congratulations! :good:
That's what we call a great Team!
This development was started 2 months ago from @-+BB+- that has done a great job... then his coming to JDCTeam has bring his project in the Team workflow... all our devs has given a shot to the code, so is the real first common project... we hope you will enjoy it, taking care that this is the initial release, so as reported by us, there are still bugs to be fixed.
Aosp sources from Google are for different hardware, and this requires modifications and changes to let it works.
Thanks for your attention.
So far so good with gravity box. But my ringtone doesn't sound, and I don't have an extSdCard installed. I know you guys don't support xposed but I don't think xposed is the problem.
OMG YES! Finally a Lollipop AOSP ROM for our S4! I've literally been waiting for someone to make it for a while. Thank you!
SuoerSU Corrupted
@AntaresOne
The SuperSU in the RomHut Link is Corrupted, As it's Displaying 5.79KB only !

These are both issues mentioned in the op - you probably don't have your ext sd card formatted to fat32 which is why you can't see it, and you probably haven't rebooted yet which means sound is likely affected.
Enjoy the new ROM and remember this is only the first release of this very clean AOSP source
This first build is so good - imagine what the future development is going to be like.
YES YES YES!!! I've used pure AOSP roms since Jelly Bean, I was so disappointed when the dev didn't do Lollipop. Now my prayers have been answered. Downloading this right away.
Just a suggestion, I think the OP should have a small guide to how to convert extSD to FAT32, just for the not so tech savvy

so want to give this a try.
one thing though, i'd like to ask anybody who flashed this, just in case, since this is pure aosp.
taskbar battery icon. does it have a setting for text? or do i have to live with the battery icon?
thanks!

You can install this, enable percentage and uninstall
I want to tell anyone that even if development started two months ago this ROM isn't yet ready for daily use for anyone. If you can't live without bugs do not flash it.
I can say that now it's more for experienced users rather than anyone
We'll tell you when it's ready, thank you for the attention.

thanks for the fast reply.
unfortunately link says "We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server."
but i will take your advice and go back to the optimised builds for now
i know you said you want to keep this as close to AOSP as possible, but would you consider implementing a few things into this ROM?
you know, casual stuff like the battery percentage, or quick settings pull down method, or a fancy reboot screen.
kinda like what Kryten2k35 did with the 5.0.1 GPE.
that doesn't have all the bells and whistles of CM, but it has some of the sensible, useful stuff built in, that the users would ultimately probably install themselves sooner or later.
anyhow, much intrigued by this new project, will be waiting for the moment you deem it safe for use
I'll try. Thanks JDCTeam. See you around here.

Maybe, we'll consider some additions but no promise. :silly:
Anyone can answer why would I install it and not CM 12.1, is this better then the CM ?
