[ROM] [AOSP 7.1.2_r28] noobbuilds-Nexus 9-WiFi | Substratum OMS7 | 2017/08/10 - Nexus 9 Android Development

This is my own custom ROM for the WiFi Nexus 9 called noobbuilds. It is an AOSP 7.1.2_rx based ROM with a few added useful features. I am an old retired guy who enjoys the hobby of builiding and using his own roms. I'm just sharing my rom not competing with the big the boys. I intend to update ROM as AOSP updates.

You are welcome but this is my retirement hobby ---- not really work --- well sometmes maybe hahahaha. I'm a work in progress. :good:
I was very fortunate that Thyrus took pity on this old retired noob and ported his theme to my build. He and his themes are awsome!!!!

If the previous build you are using had working LTE this one may also. This build is simply and update of that build. I don't have an LTE device so I have no way of checking. Make a backup give it a flash and let us know. LOL

Indeed, LTE does work fine, once the APN is to be entered!
But what's totally weird: an old sqlite bug in AOSP seems back that was gone in 5.1; One of my apps does not work because its unable to write database files

Thanks for letting us know the LTE is working. I don't stop the rild from building so I guess we got LTE LOL. As I said i don't have LTE device so I never checked!!! What is your problem app? I will look around for commit to fix the sqlite bug.

I looked again and it was not exactly the error that would indicate the old bug. And after resetting app data and removing all old files from SD the app does run now. No worries
It's Locus Pro Maps btw.
All seems fine now. Thank you.

thanks for building this! i'm also on an LTE and everything seems to be working perfect! i've tested data after adding APNs, GPS using GPS Status and Maps, and I've installed the Fire/Ice kernel, and everything is super smooth! Thanks again!

Nice to have your rom. Do you take small requests?

You can certainly ask and I will let you know if I am able to accomadate. I really am a noob and learning as I go!!!!

I just wanted two features that are important to me, but may be to others as well :
1) circle battery percentage ( or battery percentage outside battery icon)
2) navigation bar button order change (or a mod with nav buttons in this order recent - home - back)
Thank you

I won't build these into the ROM --- I will look for framework-res, systemui or settings apk mods for these. I'm quite sure these require smali mods. If you find the mod somewhere link here and will try porting to rom. I got the tools. LOL

If you look at paulobrien, he has the MCR Modpack. It's old, but it should have the things you need to edit.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Forums

You could use xposed, more info here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/super-alpha-posted-permission-xposed-t3072979 use the SDK 22 arm 64 zip. Flash that in recovery. Then after booting back up, install the installer located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3034811 then use gravitybox located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/app-gravitybox-v5-0-0alpha-tweak-box-t3037566 and then you should be able to make all the changes that you want to.
I've used it on this ROM so you shouldn't have any problems.

ROM with minimal gapps.
Added ROM with minimal gapps included. See OP #1 for download.

Did notice something... I can't add exchange email as an account. Anyone know why?

I've never set one on aosp email app before but I see what you mean. LOL I will check around. LOL

Codename Android is a fully open source rom that focuses on speed, usability, and getting every feature that we can get CRAMMED in there .
Our mission is to spread the Open Source Android love to as many people as possible, and get as many people involved as possible. Along with the rom there will be tutorials to get more people involved and learning how to build android step by step.
We are pleased to announce the CodeName Android ROM Utility. All info about it can be found HERE as well as the download link. For now it will act as an app that will centralize all downloads for CodeName Android. There is one feature that needs to be added. The missing feature is the flashing of zips through recovery but we are working hard on this and should have it working soon.
You may use the app to download ROMs and all available add on packages or we have provided direct links below.

This ROM is built from AOSP sources with my modifications and with some useful features. I don't really care about any ROM customization features, because I care about stability and performance. So this ROM will never be "fully customizable".
What's the difference between this ROM and other custom LP ROMs for Nexus?
A: You really cannot see the difference by seeing screenshots of this ROM. You can feel the difference by using it.

I can't edit the frameworks_native opengl files to fix the graphical issues, that must be done by someone talented...
Reboot issues: I don't know, my Nexus only rebooted once. I still haven't flashed Gapps.

This ROM is using AOSP JB 4.3.1 tuna and maguro device repositories, which are edited for KitKat 4.4 by me by adding the changes from Grouper KK 4.4 device repository. Here is my
device repositories for Tuna:
github.com/manumanfred/device_samsung_tuna
github.com/manumanfred/device_samsung_maguro
Changelog:
device_maguro
Code:
KitKat
Enable BLE
frameworks/base overlay: add MMS UA and UAProfUrl strings for maguro
JB 4.3.1
device_tuna
Code:
fix typo of audio.r_submix.default
Enable host interleaving BR/EDR device discovery
audio: fix remote submix sampling rates
change to new libsensors headers - Thanks to kufikugel
KitKat
Include BLE permission file
Enable BLE
JB 4.3.1
To Do:
Fix possible GPS issue (Maybe)
Take this away: Settings.Global.LOW_BATTERY_SOUND_TIMEOUT It's for tablets, we can use it but this is useless
Fixes
Add Battery Charging LED
If the vendor files for grouper KK have been uploaded, then use some of the files from it for BT and WiFi
Revert some things (maybe, currently needs testing...)
Next version will be Dreams 4.4 Milestone 2
For Toro users: Don't ask any ETAs or anything like that.. I build this KK based Dreams for Toro when this is stable for Maguro.
package gives error because of the new signature in kitkat, it is fixed in latest cwm and I think in twrp as well, so you can build a flashable zip just recommending to be on latest cwm in order to flash it
So it's still Jellybean?

I have the .zip package on my Ubuntu partiton, but I'm not using Ubuntu right now so I can't give it now. Next version will be flashable through CWM.
as always, you are awesome, thanks for your roms, they are golden
Absolutely the best kitkat rom 'till date, no doubt..the rom is blazing fast, smooth like ever, opening app, swiping to google now is liquid, fast precise... the only thing you have to do is to install mopkang kernel 1080 version, which makes a big difference in the overall performance, stock kernel seems to be young for this os.. everything seems to work fine, super su 1.65 works perfectly..what else can I say, excellent job and thanks carlos, I'm coming from the latest cm snapshot and i can feel the very gap in terms of speed and smoothness, kitkat really is a badass os:good:

Dirty Unicorns is a custom ROM built with stability in mind and optional customization. The idea to start this ROM began out of pure boredom around 4.1.2 on the EVO 3D and later turned into a form of an addiction (a good one) to see where we could go from there. We have since expanded to more devices to include the HTC One, Nexus 5, SGS4 and many more. We quickly realize that users loved what we were doing as well as other developers because it was done the right way. We've always had fun doing it and take pride in knowing that we've done it without having to bug the end user for donations to pay for server costs and/or any of those sob stories you hear. This ROM is 100 percent free and will remain that way.
Those wanting to use our ROM as a base are more the welcomed to do so but please maintained the credits/thanks below, do not ask for donations as it wouldn't be fair to do so considering and let us know as we often like to contribute to other projects.
As stated above, we love to maintain authorship but we also like to publicly praise those that have helped us along the way with our wonderful project. With that said, this wouldn't be possible without the work and help of those listed below THANK YOU ALL!!
| OmniROM | AOKP | CM | ChaOS | Paranoid Android | Slim ROMs | Preludedrew | Team Black Out | Official Testers / Translators |
Please check our gerrit/github for full credits/thanks of individual contributorsBelieve it or not, we are human and we do forget things. If we have left someone out of the credit/thanks list, just PM us and we'll gladly add on to the list.

This looks nice. Been running your 4.4.2 stock rom for quite a while, so may have to try something new before lollipop comes out. I'll give it a go when I get into work on Monday.
Tempted to give this a try, which gapps package is most similar to the liquid gapps? That package has everything I want, and none of the stuff I don't.
Sent from my One using XDA Free mobile app
I plugged this in today, very smooth, very fast, nicely appointed - Good work as usual Santod.
The ROM looks great in the pics but I cannot get it to flash. I did a complete wipe and I'm running TWRP 2.8.0.2 which is the latest. It seems to sit on the formatting /system when I try to flash. Gave it 40 minutes and still no change. Any ideas?

Twrp 2.8.x.x for m7vzw is awful and I do not suggest it for installing any of my roms, or any rom really.
I highly suggest using what works and works well, which is Twrp 2.7.1.2 from MDmower or most any other 2.7.x.x version.
2.8 still has major issues with most of the current roms for m7vzw and will either hang forever and eventually install or simply just fail.
This rom flashes in less then a minute using Twrp 2.7.x.x, as does any Aosp based rom.
Didnt see a Q/A thread on this rom yet but, is their a way to turn off the slide up for google search. it keeps happening to me when im trying to use the HTC logo as a menu. Other than that, this rom is a nice twist on AOSP. i actually uninstalled xposed framework because it has everything i want in a rom.
What Gapps do you recommend with this Rom?
Good job @santod040 for bringing this to the Verizon M7
I've been meaning to do it myself but could never find a tester that would provide feedback....
Anyways, good job again and hope you all enjoy this!!
Good stuff for sure.
Using TWRP 2.8.0.2 with no issues. Should I still revert to 2.7.1.2?

:good:
If it works for you, then it works.
For me, it's not very good, so I stay with 2.7.1.2 for now.
As long as it works for your needs, then no need to change it really.
Governor settings
Hi All,
ROM is running very well.:highfive:
Question, Where can I find the governor and speed settings. Looked all over and can't find a tweak for them.
Thanks,

Thanks Santod,
I put trickster in. Works perfect.
I am glad to see your kernel inside and all the Governors.:good:
Ran great. Where might I find your latest AOSP kernel? Ever think about open a thread for your kernel
Thanks for bringing this ROM to us, it's pretty amazing. One question: Is there a way to add apps to PIE that I'm missing? I've started playing with the app circle bar and can probably adjust, but I've come to really like PIE.
Anyone got recommendations for a custom kernel?

What is AOSP?
AOSP is Android as Google publish without other modifications. More or less AOSP is the Nexus devices stock rom without gapps. Anyway to get a working system me and @-+BB+- added some changes from CyanogenMod. We added also some non-AOSP features like init.d support, @alucard_24 kernel for better performance and energy saving, STweaks for advanced kernel settings and support for Over-The-Air updates through a dedicated app (OTA Updates). Maybe something else from us might be added, but please do not ask for features to be added because we're not going to add more to keep this ROM small, fast and pure.

TWRP Recovery v2.8.7.0 with F2FS management support: AndroidFileHost
Installation
TWRP Recovery v2.8.7.0 is suggested for installation
Devices supported: I9505, I9507, I9508, I545, R970, I337, M919, L720. (I9515 and I9500 are not supported).
AT&T and Verizon users: since your bootloader is locked, you must be on the UCUAMDB or UCUAMDL bootloader if you own an AT&T phone, otherwise if Verizon you must be on the VRUAMDK bootloader in order to use this ROM. Do getprop ro.bootloader in Terminal Emulator or through ADB shell to find out which bootloader you have
First time or clean install:
Download the ROM from the link above
Download GApps package for Lollipop 5.1
Put the zip files on your SDCard
Reboot in Recovery
Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Optional: convert to F2FS
Select "Install zip from SDCard"
Choose AOSP zip file
Choose GApps zip file
Reboot system
Update from a previous build:
Via OTA Updates:
Open OTA Updates app
Download the update
Press "Install"
Your device will automatically reboot and install the update.
Manual update with TWRP:
Download updated build from the link above
If you do not have the Gapps package, download Open GApps
Put the zip files on your SDCard
Reboot in TWRP Recovery
Wipe /cache and dalvik-cache
Select "Install zip from SDCard"
Choose AOSP zip file
Choose GApps zip file
Reboot system
We don't have a backup/restore GApps script yet. When you update /system is formatted, so you need to reflash GApps package too. In case you don't do it, Google Apps will fail in endless force closes after boot.
First boot after install/update takes a while, wait at least 5 minutes for it to boot.
To convert cache, data and system partitions to F2FS look in post below.

Thanks for the new ROM!
Good luck!
Waw! The first one! Congratulations! :good:
That's what we call a great Team!
This development was started 2 months ago from @-+BB+- that has done a great job... then his coming to JDCTeam has bring his project in the Team workflow... all our devs has given a shot to the code, so is the real first common project... we hope you will enjoy it, taking care that this is the initial release, so as reported by us, there are still bugs to be fixed.
Aosp sources from Google are for different hardware, and this requires modifications and changes to let it works.
Thanks for your attention.
So far so good with gravity box. But my ringtone doesn't sound, and I don't have an extSdCard installed. I know you guys don't support xposed but I don't think xposed is the problem.
OMG YES! Finally a Lollipop AOSP ROM for our S4! I've literally been waiting for someone to make it for a while. Thank you!

These are both issues mentioned in the op - you probably don't have your ext sd card formatted to fat32 which is why you can't see it, and you probably haven't rebooted yet which means sound is likely affected.
Enjoy the new ROM and remember this is only the first release of this very clean AOSP source
This first build is so good - imagine what the future development is going to be like.
YES YES YES!!! I've used pure AOSP roms since Jelly Bean, I was so disappointed when the dev didn't do Lollipop. Now my prayers have been answered. Downloading this right away.
Just a suggestion, I think the OP should have a small guide to how to convert extSD to FAT32, just for the not so tech savvy

one thing though, i'd like to ask anybody who flashed this, just in case, since this is pure aosp.
taskbar battery icon. does it have a setting for text? or do i have to live with the battery icon?
thanks!

You can install this, enable percentage and uninstall
I want to tell anyone that even if development started two months ago this ROM isn't yet ready for daily use for anyone. If you can't live without bugs do not flash it.
I can say that now it's more for experienced users rather than anyone
We'll tell you when it's ready, thank you for the attention.

thanks for the fast reply.
unfortunately link says "We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server."
but i will take your advice and go back to the optimised builds for now
i know you said you want to keep this as close to AOSP as possible, but would you consider implementing a few things into this ROM?
you know, casual stuff like the battery percentage, or quick settings pull down method, or a fancy reboot screen.
kinda like what Kryten2k35 did with the 5.0.1 GPE.
that doesn't have all the bells and whistles of CM, but it has some of the sensible, useful stuff built in, that the users would ultimately probably install themselves sooner or later.
anyhow, much intrigued by this new project, will be waiting for the moment you deem it safe for use
I'll try. Thanks JDCTeam. See you around here.

TWRP Recovery v2.8.7.0 is suggested for installation
Devices supported: I9505, I9507, I9508, I545, R970, I337, M919, L720. I9515 is not supported.
First time or clean install:

Put the zip files on your SDCard
Reboot in Recovery
Wipe Data / Factory Reset
Optional: convert to F2FS
Select "Install zip from SDCard"
Choose AOSP zip file
Choose GApps zip file
Reboot system
Update from a previous build:
Via OTA Updates:
Open OTA Updates app
Download the update
Press "Install"
Your device will automatically reboot and install the update.
Manual update with TWRP:
Download updated build from the link above
If you do not have the Gapps package, download Open GApps
Put the zip files on your SDCard

Wipe /cache and dalvik-cache
Select "Install zip from SDCard"

We don't have a backup/restore GApps script yet. When you update /system is formatted, so you need to reflash GApps package too. In case you don't do it, Google Apps will fail in endless force closes after boot.
First boot after install/update takes a while, wait at least 5 minutes for it to boot.
To convert cache, data and system partitions to F2FS look in post below.

To enable Developer options go in Settings->About device and press "Build number" for 7 consecutive times.
Using F2FS
What it is? Wikipedia
To use it you should first convert your EXT4 partitions through recovery, before installing this ROM.
On PhilZ:
Wipe and format options->custom format options->toggle ext4 f2fs migration
Format data and data/media->f2fs (Warning: internal storage is formatted, make a backup of your personal data before doing this!)
Format system->f2fs
On TWRP:
Download and install this TWRP version: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347763625
Wipe->advanced wipe
Select data->change or repair file system->f2fs (Warning: internal storage is formatted, make a backup of your personal data before doing this!)
Select cache->change or repair file system->f2fs
Select system->change or repair file system->f2fs
Now you can install this ROM following installation steps in post above

We mainly talk in the i9505 thread located here, head over for further details about development progress, bug fixing etc.
Thanks for the ROM. It seems to be running pretty well so far. Is there a way to enable advanced reboot features on the power button? If there is a setting to activate it, I must be looking in the wrong area. Thanks.
I just might jump on over to this from The Sickness Touchwiz rom. I really enjoy what he's done with TW, but this rom definitely has some juice going for it.
Nice work!
Did the optimized CM12.1 turn into this thread?

It might just be, but it seems like the thread for the other one disappeared, do you if I just can't find it, or was it scraped in favor of this?
Edit: Is this ARM64 or just ARM?

Is there a way to turn off the battery charging notification led on this rom? I tried all the places that most roms have for turning off this feature and can't find it for the life of me.
Has anybody tried downloading (and installing) the Stock_Kernel based on Cyanogen Code located under "Addons" in the OTA app?
This rom changed my outlook on aosp and even deleted my 4.4.4 tw nandroids. Kudos
After flashing this ROM, I'm not getting 4G LTE on T-Mobile. I'm only getting 3G. Any ideas?
I'm on OH3 baseband and networks lte enabled check those out BTW I also use the f2fs and noticed great improvements

Going to flash this to my wife's S4 this weekend. She currently has OH3 baseband. Should I flash the OK3 via Odin before I flash this rom, or does the rom have the latest baseband in it?
Thanks!
