[Q] Can I use my Note 2 charger to charge my tablet and vise versa? - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

I just recently got a Galaxy Note 2 and I"m wondering if the chargers are interchangable between the phone and the tablet. Also any cool tips on how to use my note 2 and note 10.1 2014 together would be appreciated
I'm also kind of curious as to what color charger came with the black model? My black model came with a white charger which I thought was odd.

Yes the chargers are interchangeable but the one that comes with the tablet might have a higher output and charge faster.

They are both 2amp chargers so I wouldn't think you would see a difference using either one

the tablet charger is at 5.3V and the phone is at 5V. it doesn't seem to do any harm, but i can't say about long term effects.
so the 5v works fine in the tablet, but possible ill effects if you use the 5.3V(tablet charger) on the phone.

Wall charger ...

Hi,
Can you use the wall charger from the Galaxy Tab 7" ?
Please if you have both devices to try it.
I would like to import this new 10.1" to Europe, The Netherlands.
And I am wondering the wall charger requirements.
Thanks.
I would also be interested to know if the charging cable is compatible between the original Galaxy Tab and the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Yes it works. I'm using my cable that came with my 10.1 to keep plugged into my PC and I'm currently charging my 10.1 on the cable that came with my 7. It went from 0 to 50% so far no problems. Not sure if it charges any faster/slower than the one that came with it but I'd assume they are the same.
Thanks, so I can order NL gt 7 charger for my US gt 10.1 for use here in NL.

Thanks for that. Picked up a couple of genuine Samsung chargers from Tesco in the UK for £4.97 each (reduced from something like £40!). Potential UK buyers might want to grab a spare while they can!
i think he was saying that the cable will work. The charger might not. I was trying to use my cable with other USB wall chargers but the device won't charge on them... my guess is because they are less than 2ah. I would make sure the specs on the tab 7 charger match up to the 10.1 charger to be safe
The Galaxy Tab charger I picked up today is rated at 2A so it should be OK, with any luck!
cable and charger both work. both chargers are 5v 2A. one reason why it charges slower than the xoom and tf.
on the upside it does trickle charge via standard usb. my tf won't and of course my ex xoom wouldn't.
Sweet, i'm gonna have to pick one of these up then
Wow, those chargers are expensive on amazon. Does anyone know where to get cheap ones?
Ebay is probably the best place for all things cheap, unless you're wanting a samsung branded charger
Haven't checked for the exact right one but dealextreme.com has been the best in the past for misc electronics cheap.
good to know that. like many android gadgets, once you have it, next natural thing is to put several chargers in several places.

Probably if anyone can post photo / link to the gt tab 7 charger?
So, we all know what to look for specific.
I hate how you can't just plug it into any usb. I have usb adapters everywhere and it would be nice if I could charge it while plugged into my computer
I posted this in another thread, but with these adapters, you can charge off ANY USB port;
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330565218553&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123
I've bought two, leave one at home and the other comes travelling with me.
I also use a few third party cables designed for the original Galaxy Tab and they work fine. So happy to be able to charge my 10.1v anywhere

it does, but it seems like 1% per 3 min. just plug it in and see. it's the only honeycomb tablet that i've had that actually does charge via usb (xoom, tf, and gt101). the tf doesn't, but i'm sure it would if i had usb 3.0.

I really want a wall charger I can throw in my flight bag. Anyone have one they've found on eBay that charges the Tab 10.1? I really don't want to drop $40 for the OEM, ouch!

Seriously, why not buy one of the adapters that I posted about and use any charger you want? I think I paid about $7 Australian for two and now I can keep using all of the USB wall and car chargers I have amassed over the years owning Win Mobile and Android phones
If your heart is really set on buying a proper wall charger, if it says it will charge a Galaxy Tab (original) or iPad, it should charge the 10.1

Note 10.1 Chargers

Could anyone check the current rating of the supplied charger?
My Note should be arriving soon from the UK - although I could use an international plug converter, I don't really like the idea.
On the other hand I have a Belkin charger for my iPhone for 0.5A. Do you think this is enough?
Thx.
No. The original charger has an output 2 A at 5 V. And even with 2 A the Note 10.1 is only slowly charging.
The charger is rated 2A.
In addition, it uses a nonstandard method for "dumb charger" detection. If you connect an iPad charger or a standard 2A charger, it will not be detected.
The device needs to see D+ and D- shorted together AND floating at around 1.2 volts to charge. Same rules as all other Samsung tablets.
It is possible to find special Samsung Tablet charging adapters that will let it be used with iPad 2A chargers - here's an example of a DIY one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675042

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141?item=4
will work - if those links break, just search for "P1000" on dealextreme - The charger standard and detection mechanism are common for all known Galaxy Tab models.
I'm using the same ones I had for the 7.0+ and 7.7 and they're charging the 10.1 just fine. Looks like .35A (old eyes here)!
The Tab 10.1 charger should work, right?

My Note won't charge from an iPad charger but it has no trouble charging from an inexpensive PowerGen charger with the original Samsung cable or a cheap copycat cable.

I guess apple and samsung are real bussiness enemies
But, it's still better to use the original charger. And yes correct, with the 2A output rated, the note also slowly charge. Different from the N7000, which is quite fast to charge.
Can anyone link me to an identical charger to that which came out of the box that I can buy? Need to return my Note 10.1 but I have lost my cord.
Edit: Or one that at least looks identical.
Here's a good deal on the OEM charger. Be careful on eBay and Amazon, a lot of what's sold there are knock-offs.

I may pull the trigger on one of these. However, it is disconcerting to see a review of a cord that is also marketed as a a Galaxy Tab cord being reported by a reviewer on amazon as not fitting or charging.
Here's that cable:

The cord on Amazon's probably a knock-off. Yes, I've bought from all4cellular before. I've also gotten burned a couple of times on Amazon and eBay. E-mail them and confirm what's listed on their website is a genuine Samsung product. It may be shipped in a cellophane package vs. retail packaging but that won't matter as long as it’s OEM.

If you wish to burn your GN 10.1, yes. Otherwise, for your safety, no.
There are plenty of car chargers on eBay for the Note & Tab 10.1.
There is a brand called Pleomax, which is another brand name of Samsung accessories out of Korea.
You can also get a Samsung Note 10.1 charger (which is really the same as the Tab) for about 18.00 and plus 3.50 for shipping.
See eBay Item number: 160865117877. This is the one I just purchased.
The Note and Tab chargers are all 12v and 2a rated.

No... They are not. 5 volts output at up to 2A, not 12 volts.
Car chargers accept 12 volt INPUT, but the OUTPUT (to the Tab/Note) is 5v.
12v will fry the Tab/Note. The Note and Tab use a more standard charger detection algorithm than Asus Transformers (which actually have 12v charging...)

Galaxy Note 10.1 Charger on Note II

Hi crew,
Anybody knows if the charger for the Note 10.1 will in the long run damage the Note II. From what I can see both have an output of 5V at around 2A.
The electronic knowledgeable peeps can shed some light?
PS: I think the Galaxy Tab line use the same charge the newer Galaxy Note 10.1 uses.
Thanks
Ron
AFAIK there should be no problems.
No it will definitely not/should not basically...
Although charging is optimum when using stock charger of any phone, its not that it can do any harm AFAIK

I have both and was interested in the question as well (do I need to carry both with me or will I have one in my travel bag and one @home).
I checked both and both are rated @2A so their capacaty is the same.
The note 10.1 shows only a 'red cross' in charging on the PC or on a charger from old Galaxy S2.
Now, plugged to the charget from Note II it works with same current than on original charger
Now I plugged the Note 2 into the Note 10.1 charger, and it's charging with same 1.8A as with original charger!
So from my side it's clear, they are interchangeable
I will use the Note 10.1 for home and the Note 2 charger for travel Old charger stays @ home, could make only 900mA...
P.s.: I checked charger currents by reading /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_now with root explorer.

Samsung car charger P10CBEG does not work for N8013. do not buy.

I recently bought a official samsung car charger ECA-P10CBEG to charge my galaxy note 10.1
BIG MISTAKE. This charger does not charge galaxy note 10.1 tablet at all.
I tried the carger in my car, and a cross came over the battery that indicated that the tablet was not going to charge.
This car charger comes with official 30 pin samsung cable and can charge most galaxy tabs
full list of compatable tabs that work with this charger: http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/ECA-P10CBEGSTA-compatible
So, I chatted with a samsung representative, who also re-iterated that samsung galaxy tab charges won't work with note 10.1
(see attched image of conversation)
and that I need to call J&J to check if there may be a car charger for note 10.1. there isn't.
Just creating this thread to alert ppl, not to waste money buying samsung galaxy tab car charger.
Also, I asked about tablet's sensitivity reduced when it's placed on charging.... I suggested that this may be because the charger was defective and not earthing properly... guess what was the response....

Does it charge other devices like your phone? Maybe the charger is defective because these chargers can't tell apart different devices.
The wall charger can charge my galaxy note tablet just fine.
Just that there is a loss of touch sesitivity when the tablet is charging. Many other folks on this forum have had this issue.
The car charger does not charge galaxy note tablet. Don't have any other device that works with 2A current to try plugging in on the car charger to see if it works. I am pretty sure that car charger is good, though. Just that it does not have enough amperes to charge note tablet.

Beware of USB cable and charger

I thought I had a bad ROM, but apparently it was a bad cable. And it seems as though the geniune cable does a "bit" more.
I didn't even think there would be a difference in between my Samsung Galaxy S3 cable and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 cable, but there is.
I've been using an app call Galaxy Current Lite to see why it's been taking 8 hours to charge from 4%-100%. I have used the original charger cable that came with my Note 8.0 as well as the original set that came with my SGS3. Both yield the same result. Galaxy Current Lite showed max 500ma was going through.
After being frustrated I took my Note 8.0 to a store with another Note 8.0 store display, plugged it in and check it with Galaxy Current app... load and behold it was getting 1800ma.
So apparently the cable does make a difference. So I went to buy the geniune Samsung travel kit, while I deal with warranty replacement from Samsung tomorrow. I also found out that using a cable that is for Note 8.0 via my SGS3 or Apple AC to USB also gave a 1100ma and 900ma respectively.
So if you are having issues SLOW charging... grab the app and check. It could be the cable. And if it is... DO NOT GET A GENERIC. I tried a generic charging ONLY cable with the original Samsung charger it yield 468ma
Hope this will help others

Let me first confirm this and also post some of my findings in the past.
I have 3 samsung oem ones all having issues and then a generic and another from a nokia and they are the ones I've been using as they are shorter + thicker and give me 1800 ma constantly. I don't have any issues with generic ones as long as you use original charger.
When my note 8 went to service center for mother board and screen replacement (liquid damage), I confirmed with tech if there was something special inside the samsung cable, and was told that though he cannot disclose that, but even if there was, it's not related to charging, told me to just use any good/decent quality cable.
The Nokia one I have is CA-101D and it's extremely short in length (few inches) but good enough for unattended charging on table.
Apart from galaxy current like, one can also use battery monitor widget and in it's settings set measuring method to samsung one and it will also start showing what current you are getting as well as track charge/drain cycles.
I purposely use a 0.7A to charge my Note 8 overnight..

Genuine or not is not the point. One should use a cable designed to carry the needed current. Some cables are designed to carry only 500mA or 1A, especially in the old days. Nowadays with the power hungry smart phones/tablets, you would want to use a cable that can carry at least 2A or even 3A. If you are not looking specifically for these spec and grab just any USB cable randomly, chances are you would be limiting the current. Certainly the Samsung cable that comes with your device would supply sufficient current. But if you don't feel like traveling with a dedicated cable for each one of your devices, just buy a 3A rated cable, it would work across all of your devices. A 3A cable would be future proof for a while.

I tried some current apps, and found them to drain my battery, so be careful.
I used 2 meter Sony, BlackBerry, no name brands, and a case logic 10 footer. All did very well with high current charging.
The OEM Samsung almost killed my Note 8.0 by fire! After a few months the thin wires shorted out at the micro usb plug, and super heated. Won't use Samsung cables anymore.
My issue is plug life, micro usb sux big time for plug in design. No wonder USB3 has become a popular change to manufacturers of chargeable devices.
