Spigen Screen Protectors have no cutouts for front camera or proximity sensor - Nexus 5 Accessories

Hopefully they'll fix this down the road, but the Spigen "Ultra Crystal, Clear and Hard Surface Screen Protector" (purchased from Spigen on Ebay) that I just received have no cutouts for the front camera or the proximity sensor. I tried to carefully cut out a space in the plastic to account for them but cutting the protector made it unable to adhere properly to the screen. I've sent them a note, hopefully they will replace them.
Update: Okay, color me a dumbass, I just used the last one of the 3 pack without altering it and yes, the proximity sensor does work even though it is covered.

Isn't it working fine without the cutouts? Or did you not try?

Proximity sensor is working fine for me with the screen protector that came with the spigen ultra hybrid case

With The Nexus 4 anything covering the Proximity Sensor impaired it. Every other screen protector I've bought for any of my devices had cutouts for the front camera and proximity sensor.

yup, Spigen didn't make the cut out since its just working fine, their screen protectors are very clear, non obstructive to the nexus 5's sensors and camera

Yeah, you'd assume with nexus 4 it had to have cutouts to work
But works fine here!

Yes, apparently Spigen screen protectors don't affect the sensor nor the front camera at all.

Seriously... How do you people use these?! I can install a wet apply one no problem but these suck! I used a steamy bathroom etc. And even with every precaution including using a can of air I couldn't get the protector on the phone without dust. What a nightmare. I'm just using protector no 4 with dust underneath til I get a proper protector. They do feel nice though.

I lay the screen protector on the phone and wrap tape around one side of the phone and screen protector so that its like a "hinge" so to speak. Then just wipe the screen with a lint free towel, peel the back of the screen protector off and flip it over onto the screen. Only place you can even tell that there's a screen protector on it is around the earpiece.

I like the static kind. If you get a piece of dust under it, you can just lift it with a piece of tape and remove the dust. It's always a perfect application if you put in some effort!

See, and I'd rather have a dry apply smooth as glass protector that might have a small dust particle or two instead of a wet apply that feels like an orange peel and is soft and squishy.

I would spend the money on the spigen glas.t but according to this forum it has been discontinued:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929381
I didn't read the full thing, i just googled it. But i will say this, I dropped my iPad 3 face down(glass down) on concrete and it protected it. It fell about 4 feet and came out without any damage whatsoever.

I swear by ZAGG. If you watch the demo video then it should sell you too. Yes its a little more expensive than the 3 dollar scotch tape cover you can get at the grocery store, but you spent a lot of money on the phone with its sharp screen, I figure its worth it. I had the ZAGG cover on my Thunderbolt and it worked great. I liked it so much I have one on my GS3.
DBA Cases sells a screen protector called "Just Like Glass". I just bought one for me and my mom. I must say the feel is great, almost "like glass" and the screen doesn't diminish in quality one bit. It is a wet application. The sides on mine don't want to stick down all the way. The instructions said this would happen and after a few days it will stick. I've only had it applied a couple days so I'm still crossing my fingers. They are only $13.50. I would definitely recommend one. http://www.dbacases.com/samsung-galaxy-s3-screen-protectors.aspx
I highly suggest glasszone. No proximity problems, no response problems. 9H hardness, I've dropped it twice from waist height on concrete floor and it's not scratched, though I'm not 100% if the initial impact was with ground. The only thing I have against it is the (barely) visible layer of glitter on the edges, or what the manufacturer calls "pearl effect". I barely notice it, and it's only really visible under a few instances. You can find it on ebay

Do all the tempered glass protectors make the screen look odd, or are some better and more "HD" than others? I read the thread about the xgear one and it sounds like it distorts the screen.

Yes it definitely disturbs. That's why the sticker type protector is somehow a better choice, but if you have a sturdy case protector to begin with you don't need a screen protector, that gorilla glass will serve it purposes.

I ordered mine from Bestskinsever. Quality is like Zagg Invisible Shield for about 1/4 of the price.
I don't like the Zagg ones, its very clear when you're using them that you have a screen protector on. I have the DBA Just Like Glass mentioned above. I like it for the most part. The screen protector has gotten very scratched up but the screen is safe and sound. Worst bit about it is that the edges dont look properly adhered. They havent peeled up for me but they look like they arent stuck on as well as the rest of the protector

SPIGEN SGP Samsung Galaxy S3 Premium Glass Screen Protector White
Glass looks and feels great.
HOWEVER
Must be used with a raised home button and case on the edges.
Sensitivity was severely compromised.
You wouldn't notice on regular use, but as soon as you got typing. I became very frustrated. Ruined texting all together.
Even swype was some garbage.
40$ well wasted.

I've been using a Qmadix tempered tech armor and it does need a raised sticker and only comes with three. It works great though and I haven't lost any use. I bought mine in white from a sprint store and my only complaint is the dust that gets stuck on the glue like edges underneath. I can post pictures of the box and the glass screen protector if requested my camera just isn't connecting on the cm10.1 nightlie I have haha

Compatibility: Specifically designed for Google Nexus 7 FHD 2nd Generation/2013
Designed specifically for a fast, easy, 100% bubble-free application and made of the ultimate, high-quality invisible film
Protect screen from daily scratches, dust, scrapes, and normal signs of wear
Attaches quickly and smoothly with self-adhering surface, leaves no residue when removed
Includes: 1xBye-Bye Bubble Ultimate Screen Protectors, Micro-Fiber Cleaning Cloth, Squeeze card
Being the cheapskate I am, I was using a 1st gen Nexus 7 screen protector cut to fit the new Nexus 7. It's safe to say the amFILM screen protector was a step up.
First it's worth mentioning the screen protector was in a good stiff cardboard holder. Protects it from bends during shipping. It's good to see this as a lot of cheaper screen protectors are just sent in an envelope from ebay.
It comes with quite a bit of nice accessories. The microfiber is good in size and quality. It's better than the small cheap ones thats usually included. It also comes with a squeegee and lint remover/hinge stickers. The lint remover/hinge stickers are meant for any dust you can see on the screen before applying or used as a hinge for applying the film.
Also for the noobies to applying screen protectors, it has step by step directions for best results. The have instructions for 2 methods. Hinge method (what the stickers are for) and regular method.
There is a single cutout for the light sensor and camera. It's a perfect fit on the screen, good feel, no loss in touch sensitivity of the tablet, no rainbow effects and not to sticky when swiping your finger across it. Super Clear and can barely tell there is a protector on it.
Overall I'm very happy with it. Great customer service and lifetime warranty! Whats not to like?

This protector is fairly large so there isn't a huge margi. Of error when applying. However they have a 30 day money back guarantee and are willing to send you more protectors if you have trouble.
I bought a tech armor sp (as a spur of the moment sort of thing) when it comes in I'll write up a review
Sent from my SGH-I747 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for the review. I've had the amfilm SP on for about a week and I seem to be experiencing a bit of touch response interference. It seems to get worse when there are a lot of smudges on the screen. Luckily that only happens... All the time because the trade off with this SPs great clarify is its penchant for fingerprints.
Anyone else having touch response problems? I'm close to removing the sp altogether to see if the responsiveness returns or if there's a deeper delay issue with hardware. My guess is the SP is at fault.
That said, it installed easy, has great clarity, and was at a great price point. Hard to beat 2 for $7... amazon prime helps, too.
Yup, awesome products at a GREAT price!! I used nothing but Ghost Armor for years. After trying TechMatte though, that's all I'm buying from here on out. I've got their screen protectors on my N7 FHD and Note 3. I also use their Qi Receiver in my Note 3, as well as their car mount. All excellent products!

I think so, because it's only 0,3mm thick.
How is it holding up so far? Are the edges of the protector lifting up, because of the X's curved screen?
I read that Mocolo and Frosmall are fingerprint and oil magnets, how's this one?
Does it fit good with the TPU case that came with the phone?

Is this 2.5d? From the ebay description it doesn't look like it. Are the edges of the screen protector sharp or rounded off?

But isn't the original tempered glass and the other ones made not to cover the entire screen for a reason? For example - the edges of the protector lifting up after some weeks of using it? I cant belive that they are made that way by a design error, or not?

I have no idea mate why the original tempered glass is ****ed up. But with this glass, you have no bubbles or liftings in the edges.

Hi OP,
I have ordered this one. After trying a few, all of which failed this one should work, this one is better anyway b/c it pretty much covers the front (as opposed to the others e.g. official/nillkin).
Should arrive around the middle of March, can't wait! :fingers-crossed:
Edit: BTW how was the application process, easy/difficult? Any issues I should be aware of?
Just got confirmation that my white version of this screen protector arrived, ill post pictures when i get around to installing it (might wait due to the glass screen protector i have on is still good enough to use for a bit longer so dont want to waste it lol)

Hi. No they're no problems with the application process. I don't know why, but you don't need to prune or push bubbles away with your fingers or a card, because after it was launched on the screen you don't see air under the glass.
The delivery time is not as long as described, the package arrived me after 2 weeks.
Alright screen protector but the white color has some visible bubbles in the white (can see in pictures) and the screen protector has a black border that covers a small small amount of the screen, but other then that it fits good and covers most of the screen unlike others but if I get it again I'm going with the black colored one.

Any decent screen protectors?

I got the Zagg branded screen protector for the note 7 and it won't adhere. It went on messy (Despite following the instructions perfectly) and will not adhere, especially on the corners/edges. @ 25 bucks a pop, it's ridiculous.
Dont get Zagg screen protectors for edge displays. I'm getting the PureGear one in a couple of days. I'll let you know when I put it on, supposedly works well with the edge too.
I picked up the BodyGuardz HD Contour yesterday for $25. It sucks...refused to adhere to the edges. I just found a tempered glass from otterbox that I'm thinking about getting.
I'm using the Spigen flex screen protector. It's not bad so far it ends right before the edge of the phone and so far has been case friendly, though i have yet to try it with non Spigen cases. One annoyance though is that you can see the s-pen indentations on it but i can deal with that as opposed to scratches on the display.

I'm telling you do not get tempered glass screen protectors for Edge displays. Get the plastic.
IqShield. Installed quite easily. Not a single bubble or imperfection. Sticks to the curved edges perfectly. S pen feels ok on it. Not quite as good as bare screen, but better than some screen protectors I've used. Will but again once this one needs replacement.

I second IQ shield. I have the full body wrap. Even if you use a case i recommend a full wrap to keep dust from scratching the body between the case.
IQ shield seems to hold and stick nicely even with a TPU case on. Just make sure you let it sit for a day after applying before you put a case on so everything adheres properly.

Hey,
I got the original Samsung screen protector for Note 7 while purchasing the device.
Its pretty good, especially on the edges and goes well with my S view Cover.
It leaves some area at the bottom uncovered but I like it as it doesn't tend to come off at the edges due to the cover, which was a problem with my previous screen protector from Spigen on an older device.
A fine buy!

Well this doesn't cover the whole screen first of all, and second if you need a tray to install tempered glass then you haven't used your head enough. Line it up on the screen, tape the left side like a book to the phone, stick one piece of tape on the top on the right side, open it like a book, peel the bottom portion that adheres to the phone, then "close the book" and it will be perfectly lined up. Easy peasy.

1) Aside from a very select few, there are almost no screen protectors that covers most of the screen (edge to edge) yet.
2) I rarely, if ever, use screen protectors but I'm sure there are millions of people (based on reviews itself) who would love to have something (a tool?) that would make the process much more easier for them.
You make it sound so easy but yet people mess up installations all the time.
I don't think "using your head" has anything to do with it.
I'm sure people from all walks of life, from garbage men to surgeons, have messed up on a screen protector installation at one point or another.
Xtremeguard fit my S7 edge perfectly with my Spigen Thin Fit case. The Xtremeguard was backordered when I finally pulled the trigger on the Note 7. I ended up ordering 2 skinomi full body kits. My dad opted for Spigen's Carbon offering, while I went again with the Thin Fit to avoid lifting the Skinomi. I will post pics/video when they arrive.

Do NOT BUY Samsung S8 or S8+ thin clear cover !!!

No wonder they left a small gap, i just applied a clear screen protector took a good 30 mins to apply it. And it was applied perfectly i go to put the phone in its slim armour spigen case, the corners of the case lift the screen protector.. i think that's why Samsung left the gap as this spigen case is a tight fit on my Galaxy S8+ but it pinchs the screen proctector at all four corners due to such a tight fit!
I bought the low profile clear Spigen and it's amazing.

Yeah, my S6 looked like I'd been rubbing it with sandpaper after 2 weeks with the clear cover on and I've never had another since.
When it comes to your pocket it's not things like keys or coins you should worry about scratching the screen it's the tiny ultra hard bits of glass grit and sand you can bit up every day finding a way to getting rubbed over it as you move.

Check out UAG or SUPCASE. I got an UAG Folio case and it's just great. Spigen are nice, got the hybrid one. But my SUPCASE is coming tomorrow. Just to test it out
ATM my favorite is the UAG.
Are you referring to the clear view case with the stand ? I hope not as I just paid $100 CND for it from best buy lol

This is spigen neo hybrid cover with Samsung screen protector. There is no problems anywhere. Everything pits great.
I don't know what are you talking about.

Never liked clear cases anyway, always seemed tacky and made them look like a toy.
I prefer the otterbox defender, always been very happy with quality.
I have also gotten the clear cover as a free bundle but for me the clear cover fits perfectly with my S8+ and doesn't have any issues that you have mentioned. No dust build up, no scratches left anywhere.
Apart from the fingerprint that the cover also receives on the back (and some greasy fingers greasing the back of the cover), I'm actually pretty surprised and happy with the clear cover as it doesn't sacrifice any beauty of the phone at all and is ultra-thin IMO.
This are my scratches with the clear cover (Galaxy S8+)
Only one week in use.
