Not enjoying this phone very much - Verizon HTC One (M7)

Picked up the One about 6 weeks ago... immediately had issues with the camera in low-light, like most have had..
Then last week, out of the blue the phone got pretty hot, and discharged completely from 90% in about 75 minutes, even while powered off.. It never took another charge after that. Went to Verizon, got a replacement sent to me.
Replacement gets in last night, it's essentially DOA. 90% of the time it has a screen with colorful snow (think back when TVs didn't have a signal, you know MacGayver and the snow storm). So I called today to get a replacement for the replacement.
If the 3rd one in 6 weeks is also bad, I'm demanding a NEW phone from VZW, and I'm getting a different model. Advice welcome on the new model.
I would advise against this phone if you're thinking about it.

Sorry you've had bad luck, because this phone is pretty great. Most of us have NOT had the low light camera issues and what not. Hopefully the 3rd time is a charm for you. There are some other great phones out there too that are worth looking in to. I have a coworker with the Moto X and another one with the G2. Both were fun to mess around with. Wouldn't go with the X if you're worried about the camera much (it doesn't touch a functioning One camera) but other than that it's great. G2 was pretty neat too. Your isolated experience is not worth advising others to avoid the phone, though.

Hey everyone. Forget the countless number of ridiculously great reviews this device has received and the praise from users in this forum. This one guy thinks this phone sucks. #anecdotal

Going through two bad devices can be a rather frustrating experience though, so it's understandable the guy needs to vent.

You really need to go to HTC first if having problems like that. Verizon just sends you a new phone and it's a 50/50 chance its DOA. HTC should test it before shipping back. Then you will know 100% that when you get the phone back it will be working properly.

Although I do find myself missing my sg4, and I will prob be getting sg5,
this phone is a beast, and I love it.
very solid.
HTC Sense 5.5 android 4.3 already here and stable.
beast mode all around.
you got some bad apples.
my phone luckily been solid since day 1
no camera issues, phone is perfect

I never order a new phone on line. I want to see it and mess with it to ensure it is fully functional. My mom recently wanted to move from an iPhone 4 to the One after seeing mine and my son's. We went to Best Buy and had to try 4 phones before finding one without the camera bug.
The sales idiot kept telling me that issue was on all One's. I covered my camera completly and showed him mine totally black screen unlike the first 3 he gave me which were purple when completly covering the camera. On the 4th one, I finally found a good one and shoved it in his face, I also made the comment that he needs to do his homework before arguing with a customer who obvioulsy knew a lot more about phones then he did.
I don't mind their ignornace until they speak to me like they are the "god of all phones" and I'm an uneducated idiot.
If the One is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of other choices out there. I think you just had some bad luck.

Anyone else get a little sad when...

...they change their old phone for a new one?
I mean, I've had my galaxy s2 for a year now, and it's been my trusty sidekick, never any problems, complete powerhouse and nothing has really made me want to change in that year until the One X which I will be getting later today.
I just feel that somehow I am betraying my sg2, it is still in pristine condition, has been flashed with different roms multiple times, mods etc... we've been through a lot together - I can feel it looking at me with it's sad super amoled plus eyes.
If the one x provides as half a good an experience as my sg2 has then I'll be a happy man. The sg2 is going to the mrs and I can already see how it'll be getting thrown into her bag with keys and other random objects rather than being safe in my pocket.
Be well old friend
Will feel similar with my HD2, though not at the same level as the SGS2 in terms of hardware, but our bonding is much older (since 2009), been oc'd to 1.5 and have seen Windows, Linux, Mango and got stuck with Android. I'm still quite happy with the first 4.2" multi touch phone and will feel sad to see it converted into just a mobile with songs and games when in the hands of my missus.
Well, I for one will not feel sad at all! That is because I am going from the ageing Desire
It has served me well so far and I am glad I will be staying on the htc bandwagon.

Came in to post almost this exact message. My Desire will be consigned to the phone graveyard of the third draw down in my desk, from which it might occasionally be called back into action, but will mostly be enjoying its retirement
I was really sad when I went from my old SE G502 to Desire...one, because I had never spent that much money on a phone and two, when I pulled it out of the box I thought "What have I got myself into??" But it was step I had to make and got over the initial sadness pretty quickly.
Now...I am saying goodbye to the Desire. Like the OP, it has been my trusty sidekick, I have looked after it like no phone before, rooted, ROM'd, and basically learnt a lot of tech things on this phone. I will still mess with it as Dev continues on that device, but I cannot wait to order a HOX!
I'll be sad, yes, but this is just the next chapter
I'm gonna miss my little Desire S ,never had a prob with it in the past year and it goes like the clappers ;(
No, not really.
I usually pass the old one on to my wife so I still get to give it the occasional tweak. It's not very rewarding though as I have to dress it up to look like an iPhone so she can use it.
I'm currently on a Nokia 6210 Navigator, you can imagine how sad I'll be when my HOX arrives
Wow. I hope one x blows you away otherwise 5+ years is a long time to wait for a new upgrade! For me anyway. lol
probably the wrong place to say this as i know everyone here hates apple, but when i sold my ipad 1 on ebay and had to wrap and ship it, i was sad too!
i had taken it everywhere, and it was in pristine condition, really looked after. used it pretty much every day for hours, and i was one of the first adaptors too (had it bought for me in the US a week or so after launch).
i don't feel that way about my iphone 4 though, its been getting sluggish and the home button is dodgy, and there is nothing special about the phone that i will miss, or that makes it any better or worse than the next phone i get (be it the Note, or the HTC One X, I still havent decided!)
Indeed. It'll be a huge loss to not only myself but my immidiate family when I get a new phone.
I will still pop round to see it at the weekends and sit with it in the garden and pour it some afternoon tea. I'm just glad I still have the memories. I remember ordering a Pizza on the dominos app and.... ohhh... how we enjoying those late night under the duvet while I was knocking one out on the youjizz mobile site.
You never know whats around the corner. Live each day with your mobile phone like its the last, but just remeber all the good times you had together.
As I'm coming from a Legend, I won't be sad at all. Well, thats a lie. It was a great friend for the past two years and no matter how often I dropped it, It's still in a great condition! It will go into my drawer together with my G1 and probaly be forgotten until i go on vacation this summer.
I gave (lent) my Desire HD to my cousin who is trying to develop some android apps and Im using the wifes Desire til the One X arrives (if it arrives, order kept getting cancelled by vodafone system for some reason)

Yeah, I do miss my phone when I send it off for sale.
However, I usually upgrade to a better phone, so that love usually vanishes almost instantly.

I'm going to miss my Desire, I've had it for almost two years now. But the shiny newness of the One X will more than compensate.
I'll miss my desire. It has survived countless drops on the ground, the rare times were I don't check the weather and end up cycling half an hour trough the rain w/o a jacket and many screw ups with roms and mods.
But despite that it's still going strong and still would for more than a year.
Also the fact that I've sanded the brown coating of the aluminium down giving it a total new look doesn't help when I'm looking for a new phone.

Haha I also bought a G502, it's the only phone I've ever bought without contract, so that was my most expensive phone. My next phone also was the Desire, but I didn't feel sad, I was relieved. And guess what my next phone is: a One X
The One X is not that expensive for my, I got a really great deal. A one year contract with 100 minutes + 3000 sms + 1 GB data and I got the phone for free. I pay 38 euro/month for 1 year. Total costs for 1 year contract: 455 euro. The price for the phone without contract: 550 euro
Yep - I'll be coming from an Evo 4g. It got stepped on a few weeks ago and I'm stumbling to the finish line with an old POS phone (as of yet, that phone is undetermined.) The Evo was my first smart phone or even high end phone for it's time. I loved it. That being said, the one X is just better in every respect (especially if the rumors about Sprint's one X coming with a kickstand are true !)

[Q] Is the phone fit for purpose?

I have been wanting to buy the HOX since its day of release however I keep putting it off and am slowly losing confidence in the phone.
Initially, I decided to wait to see if the battery would handle the phone. Despite mixed reviews I've concluded that battery life isnt really an issue and would give me similar performance to my Desire which has been an amazing phone for the past 2 years.
Then came the big showstopper, the flickering screen. After weeks of agonising whether to wait or not, it now appears that this looks as if it will be fixed via a FOTA upgrade which is great. Just when I was getting my confidence back in the phone, people started reporting issues with the screen coming away from the main case, plus others have reported issues with the g-sensor.
I've had a play with the phone on a couple of occasions and I love it but is it really worth buying right now and going through the heartache of having to send it back and going through the lottery of getting several handsets before one works.
I'm not about to jump on the SGS3 bandwagon. If the phone is not worth buying at the moment, I'm sticking with my Desire as I'm prepared to wait a bit longer if all these problems will be addressed eventually. HTC are not filling me with much confidence at the moment though.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

i got mine 2 days after release, first had a dead pixel and no other problems, i took that back and got this one and has been 100% fine no issues i'm so confident it is perfect i unlocked and void warranty lol
i would go for it you will have 30 days to take it back anyway so no like oyu will be out of pocket if you do get a defect just take it back.
Personally I have had mine for 2 weeks I guess I been lucky the first one I had was very very hot after 15 minutes that was HT23 handset. I swapped it with a HT243W which looking at the forums seemed to be better build quality a lot more robust. Still warms up when playing games but not too the point of scalding.
I used Custom roms on mine and with ARHD I was getting good battery life I am considered a light user 5 hours listening pod casts, 2hrs surfing and a few phone calls. I have a long commute to work.
Overall I really really love this phone. I have no regrets in my decision on getting the one X.
I must be 1 of the lucky 1s, first handset and no faults ht23 batch. I'm glad I went for this instead of the S3. Does everything I need it to do smoothly and the battery lasts me just over a day with over 3 hours screen on time

Where did you all get your handsets from. I'm looking at getting mine from mobiles.co.uk as they seem the cheapest for the handset on the length of contract I'm looking at.
I'm currently using GiffGaff as my provider but I cant afford to buy the phone outright so I'll be moving back to Orange when I eventually buy it. Thats why its important for me to only buy when I'm satisfied as I'll be going from £10 a month at GG to £26 a month with Orange.
Got mine from Clove.co.UK on release day. Not had a single issue.

The graphics issues (it's not just flickering) will be resolved via updates. If you're in no rush, there's no harm in waiting until the "all clear" is sounded.
The setting of the screen is a QC issue. The polls would indicate that either a lot of people are easily pleased, blind, or that the majority of phones are decent. If you're buying in-store compare a couple.
The biggest item (it doesn't qualify as an "issue") people aren't pleased with is that HTC uses two vendors for the display. One has a warm cast, the other cool. Most people seem to prefer the cool. If you can see the phone you're buying that shouldn't be an issue.
The only non-addressable issue is battery life and it's real. I get about 15-20% less usage than on my i9100 doing exactly the same things. It's passable but no more.
Other than that I've had the phone over two weeks and not had a single issue. There are no QC issues, the displays brilliant, and Wi-Fi/BT/3G all work better than on my i9100. Coming from TW I also really like Sense. It really is a terrific value; especially for less than a 16GB SGS3.
ive been the most vocal about QC issues
but i love the HOX despite all this and think its worth some effort, really amazing in every word, futuristic phone
having said that, i truly think no one with flawed HOX should keep it, exchange until you get yourself a flawless One X to enjoy and as BarryH_GEG said its best to pick it by hand it store
as for the displays, the colder one is more pleasant to the eye/brighter but the warmer one is more accurate and have better contrast/clean grid, users reported recalibrated colors for the warm screen after the 1.29
corruption glitches seems mostly gone with 1.29 too, this leaves the grey flicker occurring after over heating which im also hoping will be sorted with updates, since its never being permanent and Transformer prime suffered from something similar which eventually got sorted by updates
make sure to hand pick your unit and if you can't be bothered wait a while, im pretty sure HTC is working on the production issues
i don't think the SGS3 comes close
No issues here neither.
Battery lasts well enough, even with heavy use (phone calls, texts), lots of games, browsing, apps will kill the battery.
No screen issues.

Sorry if I sound like I'm flaming you, however I have to right?
The title of this thread is just utterly ridiculous. Of course this phone is fit for purpose, primarily because it can make texts & calls. It's amazing how many people are complaining about this phone and saying it isn't right. If you buy a phone within the first two months, maybe even three of it being launched, these are problems you have to expect to get.
The build quality issues are inexcusable. As far as I'm concerned the first batch should be as good as the very last batch made, however I know this isn't always the case due to different factories ect.
As for the software, I think almost every single smartphone on the planets initial software is flawed in one way or another. I suppose technically you could argue the One X is running 'Beta' firmware. It's Kernel is took from Gingerbread rather than ICS. In my opinion HTC rushed the release.
Until a phones initial release, there is never any mass software testing and so there are always going to be bugs. When I got my Desire HD on launch day, despite being an OTA the second I got home the phone still had a severe battery drain and performance issues that weren't sorted out for months! It was around February when those issues got sorted, and that update got pulled because it introduced new bugs.
The One X is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. You can tell that it's design has really been took into consideration, and despite being on my 4th device (I'm very happy with this one) I don't regret getting my One X and completely recommend it to you, it will not disappoint.
So the answer to your question, the One X is certainly fit for purpose. Feel free to flame me people, it's just my opinion.

As an owner, I think the battery issue is the biggest for me. Also, I'm not happy about not supporting OTG.

What's your purpose?
I would prefer a phone I can feel comfortable taking out of the city for a few days, and with some way to access external storage - be it OTG or usb...
In hindsight, the One X is like a gaming phone or something.
I dont think that any phone is 100% perfect for everyone that buys it. Its all about compromises. This is probably why quite a few people carry two handsets with them.
Any new device released will have its teething issues…. even many cars launched have recalls in the first few months.
As I said, I have no issues with mine at all. Screen has no faults, its not lifting from the body, I am always able to have the phone on charge (even though I am a field based engineer) but lasts well enough when off charge.
The only time i see the battery drain quickly is when browsing the net, tethering or playing games. Texting, emailing, facebook dont seem to kill the battery that much as its generally just for a few moments rather than 10 or 20 minutes with the screen on.
We buy a phone cos its thin, huge screen, good looking and has a quad core processor….. surely its not rocket science to know that the battery isnt going to last as well as a Nokia 6310i?

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies. It seems that the majority of you are happy with the One X.
Just to clear up a what I mean by fit for purpose. I want a handset which isnt going to fall apart or malfunction beyond repair within 6 months. Some of the threads here are disturbing to say the least concerning the manufacturing issues with a select batch of handsets.
jaaystott, I don't think the title of the thread is ridiculous. I was asking a question based on what I have read here. If I had come out and said that the HOX WAS unift for purpose then you would have a point. Remember, I dont have the phone yet so I was asking a question that anyone would reasonable ask prior to spending a substantial amount of cash.
I am tempted to see what next week brings and then just bite the bullet and buy one.

Well if that's all you're looking for, then just make sure your phone doesn't have any build quality issues before you do something to void the warranty (like unlock it w/ HTCdev) and you're set. My One X has no build quality issues, and if you check out the "One X War Stories" thread to see about how well the One X fairs when subjected to "cruel and unusual punishment" ;p
For instance:

My 10th replacement phone.

Ok,
I just to share my pain with you guys. I keep reading you guys on the HOX update thread. I reckon by the time I get a phone without fault, it'll come with Jellybean straight out of the box.
I'm with Carphone Warehouse.
They are brilliant at arranging a swap. But, not so good at sending me a working phone it seems. I'll spare you the details about the issues, but they have all been genuine.
Spoke to a manager today, who said to send the phone to their office, and they will have a look at it. And they will inspect my replacement before they send it out.
However, I'm on the second month of my new contract now, and it's basically 2 months without the phone I ordered. I don't see the point in kicking off over the phone, as most of the time, they don't really have the authority to do much. Plus, it's no good for the blood pressure if you end up arguing with a jerk.
Far better to take your time and write a letter to head office, spelling out all the issues, the timeline and what you want as a resolution. And then sleep on it. Edit it, and sleep on it again before sending it.
If you were me, what would you ask them for? (apart from a working phone, but hopefully that is in the bag if they truly are going to inspect it)
I don't mind stupid comments as long as you give a sensible one as well. I could do with some light relief.

If you just want a phone ask if you can swap for a gs3(I had this option and didn't go for it because I don't find the gs3 better than the one x). If you still want a one x, let then let you pick it up in-store, maybe let you into the store room and puck the box personally. Even say if you can get the one x+ for free when it comes out

Edit: Just pulled up reviews for CPW. They kinda suck if you look at their reviews. Perhaps it's not the phone, but who you've gotten 10 phones from.

Yes, they did offer me the SG3.
I don't like the screen. Nor the dialler. Or the design.
As for why I different ask for a different phone.
Kind of like those situations where you're waiting for a bus. And you've been waiting that long, you could have walked, but didn't, because you knew the next one would be here in a minute.
I've spoken to them, and if they don't send me out a working phone, without flaws, then I will be getting an SG3.
(but then, whose to say I won't have the same issues with the SG3!! I might just be one of those really unlucky SOB's...)
I mean, given probability, you would have thought that by the 8th one, I would have got a working one.
What I don't want to do, is end up over on the SG3 forum, with the same title, except it saying
My 10th replacement SG3.
And 4 months into my contract.
Yes, you're right. Definitely the 2 months line rental.
You have my sympathy, it took me 4 replacements on the 3 network to get a usable phone and I thought I had it bad, you're doing well not to lose it, sounds like Carphone Warehoue are being decent at least with swapping them out each time rather than a repair.
Then again, with 3 i'm still on 1.28 with bugs galore so it's still not 100%. I would definitely be asking for the 2 months back as you haven't had the benefit of the service you're paying for. I really would have thought HTC would have these problems sorted by now, I'm very surprised.
I would probably at this point even ask for a refund, hold out a month or two and maybe either try again or opt for another phone if something else you fancied came along.
If they are going to check out the new replacement first, maybe give them this chance and then consider your options. Good luck!
@Op,
10 new replacements in 2 months does make me think your story is crap, that's how I see it.

I'd have gone through two. Maybe three. But ten? Unless there was a bad run and CPW got all of them the odds of getting that many defective devices in a row are astronomical. Early in the launch when the One X was at its worst the "perfect vs. non-perfect poll" showed 70% declared perfect by their owners. Out of ten that's seven that were fault free. OP, you seem to have bad karma with the One X. I'd suggest not tempting the gods any longer and finding a substitute.
I also say total crap,
Carphone warehouse wouldn't even replace it 10 times, they would have offered a different phone or scrapped the contract long before now.
I've had one HOX, (release day 5th april)
The one I'm using now is the same phone, it's faultless.
Oh, and I got it from Carphone Warehouse.

So true :good:
Op hasn't mentioned what the "fault or flaw" is that he has experienced. Utter Bull crap if you ask me.
I feel so sorry for htc...because of these people that send their phones back for a creaking screen or flashing lcd's bla bla bla. It is breaking htc to the point of needing a bail-out from the Taiwanese Banks!
I've owned my One X since May and experienced all of the bugs that have been discussed in these forums but I never gave up on her, she's been wonderful to me. Luckily I don't have any hardware defects and accept that she is what she is a hot & sexy and occasionally sometimes difficult to be with. But I love my One X to the end.
Sorry for the rant but really come on 10 returns?? Why didn't you switch service providers after the 3rd return? And next time tell us what flaw's you were experiencing other wise we'll just think you're talking utter crap...end
Well I have just received my fifth replacement (First four because of GPS issues), and this one I found, to my dismay, has a faulty touch screen. I.e. the top third of the screen doesn't register any touch, and I can't drag notification bar down, or search for apps in Play Store etc etc.
This one was FROM HTC.... ugh
Wow 10 replacements does sound bad indeed. Maybe you are just to picky, or they keep sending you the same phone
i got mine since it came out. The only problem with it is the creacking on the left side. It does seem annoying sometimes but not enough to start bugging htc or complain about sh*t quality. I love my phone as it is. Theres nothing perfect in this world

Yea mine also seems to have that issue and the light leak at the bottom on a black screen, but it's not enough for me to send it back. I only had one issue with the phone after I got it and that was a faulty SIM card, but my Service provider, MTN Just swapped it the next day. I love my phone and am running JB ROM now. it makes all the difference. 10 swaps seems like a picky user or you must have been a terrible person in your previous life.

Well just so you know HTC/retailers/carriers dont just keep the returned phones. They resell them to other customers in different manners depending on how honest the party is. HTC is having financial problems because people just dont buy their phones to begin with. I just started working at a phone store and the people there push the SGS3 like crazy and customers just ask about IP4S )
And just because you like the ideal design/ concept/ the brand doesnt make the messy production acceptable. Idk about other major Android phone releases, but I've seen so many people who had to swap A COUPLE OF times just to get a decent one. That was a bit shocking. And I've seen people who claimed to have a perfect handset in the beginning now have issues with the wifi-antenna. SO just a reminder for those of you HTC police, before chastising the disgruntled customers, think about karma. Your perfect phones may be the next one in the line to be sent back to customer service and I'll be eagerly waiting for the story about your experience with HTC repair, especially those you that live in the UK.
PS: Just to say preemptively that Im not a Samsung/ Apple/ Sony fan boy. HTC is still my most favourite Android manufacturer but that doesnt mean I need to suck up to their horrendous quality control.

@ averygagaanroid I totally agree with you.
My personal experience with htc thus far has been exceptional and the three gorgeous phone's I've owned from them in the last 5-6 years have been a Hero, Desire and One X and yes a have found bugs but I was patient enough and now I still have these perfect working phone's now.
I only hope that htc pull's through these hard times and comes out stronger because I will be buying my next phone from htc in the next 18 months.

Sometimes I Really Hate Samsung

Usually not, but damn. Last week my original GNex had it's radio's take a dump. After 11 solid months, I rebooted one night and had data, but voice never came back. So I put everything back stock and walked into Verizon and paid $15 to have a replacement overnighted to me.
Now, a week later, I've come to the conclusion that my replacement is fubared. I've never seen a device experience sleep of death + turning into an oven so quickly and consistently before. It's good for 30, maybe 60 minutes tops before it craps out. This is awesome when your phone is your alarm clock.
So here I go again, getting ready to waltz back into the Verizon store and do the same song and dance again. Pay $15, get a phone on Tuesday, probably have something massively wrong, rinse and repeat. Hey, devices take a crap from time to time, and luckily mine did while still under warranty, but I'm taking picks on how many replacement units I have to go through before one finally sticks.
My guess is the 3rd replacement is a charm. Who wants the over?
Those of you who have gone through the replacement fiasco with Samsung, how many tries did it take you to get a good one?
Why do you pay when you have still warranty?

Shipping to have it overnighted. It's also awesome that my local store doesn't toss out loaner phones while you wait (It'd make it easy to avoid that whole shipping thing). Maybe I'll call Verizon Tech Support just to bug them about.
no issues at all with mine...
I love Samsung personally
OOOh, free overnight shipping. Thanks Big Red!
Hopefully the next one is a charm because honestly, I don't know what I'd do without a Nexus device on Verizon's network. The alternatives make me cringe.
why is there no option for none
Read the last line of the OP.
I'm just curious to know if getting bum replacements is a "normal" thing because for a phone that went through a "100 point inspection", well, they dropped the ball on this one.

Getting my third in the mail tomorrow Last one had ridiculous sensitivity issues, we'll see what the next one brings.
And why don't you just call em up instead of going in to the store? I keep my phone and they send me a refurb in the mail. The first phone was USPS, but after that one was crap they began overnighting it via FedEx.

I went through 4 before I got my refurb, then I promptly sold it for a GSM model. That's one thing that I have to hand it to Verizon for, they were really good once I got the 1st defective one. I had 4 at one time, most overnighted at no cost and no fees or holds.
They did try everything they could to not send me one though... Unlike Google who were more then happy to send me multiple N7's.

I had to replace one because of dirt under the screen even though its new and heat issues, the replacement was perfect and never get hot under normal use. I also bought one recently and it has heat issue and poor screen as well, but I'll live with it for the price. Its sort of a luck thing with this device, especially a lottery with AMOLED screen. I was going to get the N4 but it seem to also have lots of little issues on its own, such as getting too hot, I really hate phones getting overheat.I'm still waiting on confirmation on the USB OTG too.
After reading this it makes me think I need to bug Asurion tomorrow, I had to get an insurance replacement so I have to go through them for warranty now, they are definitely more strict on some things but like 3 minutes of complaining about signal got me a new one once already. The current one gets EXTREMELY hot under even normal use, so hot that it is uncomfortable to hold and definitely would be uncomfortable up against your face.

The first time I went in, I was hoping that they'd have one in the back they could swap out for me, or a loaner phone (fat chance, I know). My job pretty much requires a working cell phone. I'm kind of surprised that Verizon was so willing to send a replacement out in just a few minutes. Granted, I don't know what alternative they'd have. There's no real way to troubleshoot SOD issues. My main concern is just not having to go through a massive fiasco running through multiple devices, especially with an 8 day vacation coming up.

Well, if it's still under warranty, I'd jump on it.
Let's see... My first nexus has a seriously bad screen. I shipped it out the same day I got it. Got my replacement (#2) and the screen was worse than the first one. So I sent that bad and got another one (#3). This one had the same issue as OP. Radios wouldn't work....no voice or data and the phone got really hot. Enough to where I couldn't hold it to my face. So I sent that one in and they sent me a Samsung Stratosphere (#4 replacement). Sent that in and got the nexus I currently have making 5 replacements (4 with nexuses). I also went through Verizon...
Good luck
I had to replace one about ~8 months ago for screen ghosting. I was really satisfied with the replacement until now because the ghosting is back on the replacement. I'm contemplating switching to T-Mobile though, so I dunno if I'm going to attempt to replace this one.

Well that sucks. My screens have been great. Well, that, or I'm not picky. The second replacement seems rock solid so far. Good data speeds, strong signal, solid screen, solid GPS and no SOD/Overheating. Maybe I've lucked out...but I'm not uncrossing my fingers.
I've been through 5+ Nexi already. Tec Asurion is totally worth the $6.99 per month! Free overnight shipping FTW.
Well, so much for Replacement #2. I highly doubt it's the sim card.

Lol why? Seems to me that 2 separate pieces of one HW with a common issue (signal) and only one other thing in common (SIM card) makes the one other thing the most likely suspect...

Done with the Turbo 2

Well, it was a nice device, in concept. But, after 5 replacements for various defects, I'm done. I ordered the Samsung S7. Never owned a Samsung before, but I have to assume the support is better than the new Lenovo owned Motorola. I've been a loyal Moto customer since the OG Droid in 2010. Plus, these phones are too big. I'm not a huge guy, so a screen that is hard to hold, and fit in my pocket is a non starter. Hopefully, the battery is decent on the S7, and the phone reception is good. Otherwise, I can live without some of the great Moto software features, as nifty as they are. Software isn't much use when the screen is defective, or people can't hear me talking.
I must admit when I saw the title, I thought you were gonna leave because of the lack of MM update. Sorry to hear you've had so many problems with this phone, I hope the S7 brings you good luck.
You will hate how locked down the s7 is. Should of went 6p. I sold my turbo 2 for a 6p and love it. I had 2 turbo 2's never had an issues but the battery life on my 6p is about the same and I get USB type c unlocked and a fingerprint reader so this is more of what I wanted.

I had the S5 and I really miss it. I thought I would like the Turbo 2 but it hasn't lived up to any of the promises so far, except I haven't tested the toughness of the screen. My replacement Turbo 2 came in today and I'll get it setup tonight. If it fails me, I'll get the S7 Edge because of the larger battery than the regular S7.
I've only had this phone for 2 months and it's developed hardware problems. I never had a hardware problem with the S5, just some stupid lack of updates from Samsung AND Verizon. I was lured by Motorola's false advertising of 3 days of battery life. I can't get 1 day of battery life if I actually use the phone. If I leave it face down and don't touch it, I could probably get 3 days. Face up, the stupid motion sensor (that I haven't figured out how to turn off) wakes up the screen all the damn time. The battery lasts 1 day, less than a day or just over a day and a half in my experience over the last 2 months. A day and a half was with VERY minimal phone usage.
I wish you the best with the S7 and I hope it's far better than this POS.

I don't believe Verizon ever said 3 days of battery. What I saw was up to 48 hours with mixed usage.
I average almost 20 hours and 5.5 OST.
Much better than the M8 I had before it.

The 6P is a huge phone and ugly as sin. Great for updates, but if you aren't a front speaker aficionado (which I'm not) then it is just ugly and wasted space.

I've had my Verizon turbo 2 since about 2 weeks after release and have had 0 hardware problems and haven't replaced it once. You're either really clumsy or really unlucky. People don't know how to take care of their phone and I'm assuming you're one of those people, considering you've replaced it 5 times. As far as the battery life I'm a heavy user and push 24 hrs before I'm out of battery. Learn how to train it and uninstall stuff that eats up the battery. I see so many people leave like 100 different apps open in the task manager (the built in one of course) and it kills me. They wonder why their phone is so slow or why it's always dead so quick and their too ****ing lazy to click a button and kill tasks. Anyways I'm sure you don't have the ignorance of people like that otherwise you wouldn't be browsing and posting on XDA. The only reason I would see me moving on from this phone is for root and BL unlock. I love my Roms and kernels. When I was still in school I had a gs3 that I had a new ROM on every day I came to school lol. I miss that **** but I just don't wanna go back to Samsung's mediocre feeling phones, just not a trade-off I'm willing to make. But if that's what you want, all power to you man and gl.
Believe it or not, people have been unlucky and have had hardware issues (green line issues and power button issues to name a few), consider yourself lucky.

I can attest to this, my first turbo 2 had a green line the first time I turned the phone on 2 days after release, fortunately I hadn't walked out the door yet so they swapped it out immediately. as for the power button issue, surprisingly making a seal with your mouth and blowing hard seems to dislodge whatever dust might be getting stuck and fixes the issue (found this solution online, it has worked like a charm)
This is truly unbelievable, I paid off my DT2 600.00 that I got in October. Nothing wrong with it, excellent shape. I pre ordered the s7 edge and was going to trade it in and knock down the price a little on my new one. ISYN, they only offered me 36.53 for it! I thought was a mistake so I asked several times. Looks like I will keep this one as a backup.
They always say NOT to use task killers

just for the recordd, i think the hardware issues probably have more to do with how verizon handles. stores and ships devices cuz its nvr seemed to matter what kind of phone ive had ive always had 3-6 warranty exchanges, and we all know those dnt come brand new in the box, usually actually someone elses defect return. there arnt 10000 dt2 out there that are defective, there are 1000 and vzw has sent them to 10 people each :/
Unfortunately, the only way to have a brand new phone is to be first in line opening morning release day. And even then, that you don't receive a phone that has already been tested/used by a Verizon employee and repackaged. Fortunately, knock on wood, I have my original purchased opening morning.

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with your phone sir. I've had nothing but awesomeness with mine. I will admit I'm a bit disappointed in the lack of dev support for the DT2. I would love to learn how to Dev for this, but I'm way too busy with life. I left Samsung bc I got tired of the VERY SLOW AND LAGGING OS. I would've gone the Nexus route, but I've really been impressed with Lenovarola lately. I know some of you aren't but I'm having good luck.
Anyway best of luck to you on your Samsung!
Okay, had the T2 since 3 days after launch. The Green Line appeared about two months ago, got a replacement. The mic would not work unless on speakerphone. Got a replacement and now the phone all too often heats up, and I get instant battery drain. When this happens, I lose about 30% of the charge in 20 minutes... Plus, little tiny scratches on the phone screen. I have never had a screen saver on any phone, and never had a problem...
