Wireless charging stands - Nexus 5 Accessories

We need more options for wireless charging stands. The Tylt Vu is nice but for $70+ it's stuck at one angle and the lip on the bottom is much bigger then it needs to be. http://www.tylt.com/vu/
There's also a Nokia model with a more "watchable" angle but it costs over $100.

Has anyone used these models or know of any others?

I made my own temp one until I find something better using a couple of empty allergy bottles and some rubber lining. Thinking of building my own permanent solution but haven't figured out exactly what pieces I plan on using.

This works with the Nexus 5, no fiddly placement trying to line it up either

DIY Stand
I got the nokia DT900, it is a great charger, I just didn't like that the phone was laying down, hence the stand. If i make another there are a few changes to be that need to happen. But it works well neverless.

Wow those are great. I'm liking the DIY atmosphere going in this thread and it gives me a few ideas for sure. Surely there should be more products like this out there or coming soon.
If you're using the Nexus 4 Orb for your Nexus 5, how watchable is it and how usable is it to tap things on the screen while charging?

That looks awesome, I'm gonna make something like that, Thanks!!

Made a plexi glass dock!

Well, its still in rough shape, need to do some sanding etc... but here it is.
It uses two very small screws to charge through the pogo pin connection.
I wanted it originally to be entirely clear, but I messed up with some super glue and made it turn white, so I may paint it. Also thought about embedding an LED and etching a logo into the back to make it "glow"
Anyway, I'll get better pics with some progress soon hopefully

Very cool idea! Good way to easily be able to line up the charging contacts at the very least.
This is awesome! I know a lot of people are using different alternatives for the pogo plunger pins and was curious how yours were working? You said you are using small screws? Do you have any trouble with them scratching the actual pogo connections on the phone? That was my only concern for people that were using things like screws, guitar strings, and nails even.
I would like to see a close up of your contact pins. It does seem like each of us has come up with slightly different methods and materials (other sping pins, guitar string, contact prongs, copper tape, screws, tack pins...)
question : How fast does it charge? I'm scared it might be slower compared to the wall plug
Right now charging via the pogo pins is sensed as USB by the stock ROM and limited to 500 miliamps.
There is a kernel that can be flashed to force full AC charging mode.
We believe this is the issue holding up the aftermarket pogo accesories, as manufacturers dont want their product reputation hurt by charging not keeping up with power use on devices that are actually limited by the software.
Everyone is hoping that the next OTA update will have the fix....

I'll try and get a pic of the screws later tonight after work. I do have a scratch that I suspect is from them, however I'm sure something can easily be changed so that doesn't happen. Unfortunately I dropped my phone last week and chipped the screen, so I'm not worried about a scratch at this point.
If the sharpness of the screws is/was a problem I had planned to just grind them down and make them smooth and rounded, which I'm sure is still a very viable option.
As for the comment on speed, I guess that's already been pretty well answered. I was only going to add that I haven't paid attention, I've just been using this to charge my phone while I sleep.
I also plan to add an nfc tag or something to put the phone into the dock mode and set alarms or whatever.

No really a fair comparison since I work for a plastic manufacturing company . I used a 400 watt laser to cut those parts out. I also have 3 & 5 axis CNC machines. I'm toying with the idea of casting a molded base but need to 3d scan my phone for the proper geometry.
Figured it was lasered or something similar. I only wish I had access to some equipment like that. Cordless dremel just doesn't quite do the job

Hook me up with one! I'd love to have something for my phone like that especially if you get the pins put into there. But if not then at the very least it can do double duty for my tab as well.
Pretty slick looking ideas. I've always thought of making a couple of those for my office, home, and bedside.
I also heard that they have a new kernel that forces Fast Charging regardless of the connection. I know right now I'm running Axi0m Hybrid and it has a status bar toggle for Fast Charge. I haven't tested it out though.

Would this wireless car dock work?

http://owllus.com/product/carpadg-with-air-vent-mount/
I have to say it looks tempting. All I really do in my car is the occasional GPS (when my dashboard one sucks) and stream music. I know it won't charge past what I'm using but it's tempting to get a 100% going and then hop in the car and keep it there. But I'm curious what you guys have to say about it. If it's compatible with the Nexus I don't know why it wouldn't work for the Maxx. It looks like it might fit physically.
(To clarify I have the Maxx)
I don't see why it wouldn't work on the charging side but fitment may be an issue the maxx is much wider then the iphone.

How big is the Nexus 4? About the same size? Usually those things have clips on the side that spread out and you move them in, but I have no idea if this one does. It looks kind of cool though.
There is the "smart fit2" that's available all over ebay. I'd assume it would work. You have to buy the LG WCP-300 separately and plug it into a USB charger(I'd assume a nice high current charger). A bunch of sellers are showing the width as being adjustable from 4.5" to 6", but that ain't right. The WCP-300 is just 2.8" in diameter, and the Smart Fit2 squeezes down to about that size or a little smaller. It uses a standard 17mm ball, so you should be able to use it on a variety of mounting solutions.

Bump. I too am interested in this. Or even any good QI charger with NFC that will elevate my Nexus 5 up a little bit so I'm able to view the screen from a small distance. I've never used the Tylt Vu so I can't be positive, but it doesn't look like it angles the phone enough. It's also quite expensive without a promo code or something. I was really looking forward to the Synergy Home & Vehicle Wireless Charger despite its slightly ugly base but it looks like it didn't work out with the company. You can still "pre-order" it on Amazon as well.

Doing this with the TYLT right now. You're right, the angle isn't as steep as it could be, but I've had no problems seeing the clock. I'm really happy with this setup.
But yeah, don't buy it unless it's on sale... $70 is ridiculous.
Philips makes Android bluetooth audio docks that include a clock.

This one has larger speakers, and is apparently more bass heavy. Dunno very much about the one you posted, but I know they both have adjustable micro USB plugs that can be oriented to work with the Nexus 5's "backward" USB port, which is what made me get one in the first place.

Found a guy on Reddit who has access to a printer in his lab. Working on details to get one printed! Will post back once it's all done and received.
That looks great!
I'm also curious if anyone's created a version like this for the car.
I just got my Nexus Wireless Charger recently and have been looking at different options on how to mount it to my car dashboard without doing any permanent modifications. This printed dock/stand looks like the right idea.
I got a quote for this thing this morning and they want $300 to print it because it's a solid model rather than shelled.
Something to keep in mind before you guys get your hopes up.
Might contact the creator and see if he can edit to make it hollow?

Thanks Weston, I found a friend local who has one and I'm getting a lesson on how to use it Saturday to print my own. Once I do that, a designer friend of mine are going to sit down and refine the design to clean it up and make the stand as stable as possible
I just had one printed by a co-worker and love it. The most difficult part is getting the cable through and it cuts 6-8 inches off of the cable which is already rather short for the official nexus charger. Just keep that in mind.

Wireless Charging Phone Sleeve for Nexus 5

Guys, I'm going to be launching a wireless charging phone sleeve on Kickstarter in January. The unique selling point will be the Smart app that communicates with the sleeve.
I'm doing research for the launch now to determine which phones to support. If you guys could just share your thoughts that'd be great.
Namely:
Will you as a Nexus 5 user invest in a new phone sleeve?
Why do you/ dont you use existing portable chargers like powerbanks and Qi chargers?
If you know any cool portable wireless chargers?
I myself use a Nexus 4 with Qi built in but I haven't found a satisfactory wireless charging solution yet... that's kinda why I worked on my own. Thanks! I'm also asking the Samsung s5 guys for their feedback.
I would definitely use it because it seems like a very cool way of charge your phone while you are on the go!
Because a sleeve is better than a poweramp which is big an bulky
Please just do a Nexus 5 Version

Yeah like I said I would buy one because the battery on our phone isn't the best as we all know.
Great idea !
I will buy one if it isn't too expensive.
Do you know about an approximately price yet?
I don't get why you need to make that thing a sleeve. I wouldn't buy it because basically it'd make my phone unusable while I charged it. Make it have a transparent front, or a removable front, and maybe it's worth it.
I frankly don't see the point in it, and frankly having an app that "optimizes my charging experience" is something I dont see as something I need or want, I want my phone to charge and installing an app so I get better charging (in some way I don't understand or even see how it's possible) is something I want to avoid, not look upon as a unique selling proposition.
You are competing with $5 power banks here, at least in my mind, and I really don't see something here that makes me want to spend the money I can see this costing just so I can charge my phone wirelessly while it's in my bag.
I'm not being negative here, I'm being honest and since you're probably going to be investing some of your money here, I hope you don't take this the wrong way. Make it modular, with different sleeves you can buy for your phone, make it possible to use it as a power bank for non-qi devices and you have something interesting *for me*.
Good luck at any rate.
I see the need and want for it... but i dont like how its a sleeve... say i use this at night... and use my phone for my alarm. well how do i silence the alarm without taking it out of the charger... isnt going to happen...
I like to idea of modular, were you can maybe has detachable sleeves... maybe a large one that covers the screen for people who want it in their bags, or maybe half a sleeve for people who use it at night, and still have to have access to the mute/disregard of the alarm apps.
Know what I mean?
Yeah I see what you mean. That's a great idea!
However, that's not necessary now because the sleeve is thin enough that you can place your phone over it and it will still charge, ie. The sleeve becomes a charging mat.
But at the end of the day, its still a sleeve so you need to slip it out before using the phone if its inside. Good idea though! Maybe I can offer it as a stretch goal
I'm already using a powerbank. But as others stated, it's not very comfortable when you're using the phone.
I think a case would be much more useful than a powerbank or a sleeve. And you could add an attachable cover to sweeten the deal. That way everyone could get what they want from our lovely phones. And I would definitely buy and support something like that.

Not settled on the price yet. Thinking of two versions now, a daily driver denim material and a premium luxurious leather. But b still experimenting. People have told me v they want a transparent front, so testing that atm
Currently have a Galaxy S4 with a ZeroLemon extended battery but I'm on the verge of switching to a Nexus 5. The only thing I'd miss from my S4 is the huge battery life with the ZeroLemon so I was looking at battery cases. However, I love the idea of a wireless charging pouch/sleeve. It would allow the Nexus 5 to remain naked when using it but keeps it charging while in the pocket. I was thinking of doing this using a standard external battery but that'll require plugging it in which is a real pain.
I've added my email address on the notify for more info. Definitely interested.
Just out of interest, will the pouch be specific for a particular phone or will it be generic for a variety of phones (assuming roughly the same size). Also, is the pouch designed to only accept the phone naked? What if the phone has a slim TPU case or bumper?
A few questions:
1.How is this better than battery cases which are on the market right now?
2.What will happen if i accidentally put the phone wrong side up into the case?
3.Durability of the pouch?

1. Generic for a variety of phones!
2. Insisting on stretchable materials, so the phone is easy to slip in and out- PLUS it tolerates slim cases! And even the s5 wireless charging back. Not sure what maximum thickness case works though- this calls for a stress test video.

1. It's better looking, and it doesn't make your phone thicker or heavier or imbalanced. Why should you have to choose between a slim, beautiful phone and a bulky one with battery life that lasts the day?
2. Both sides and wrong side up it will still charge!
3. Durability as in... the material? Battery capacity? Battery longevity? I'm committed to making ampere the best it can be plus I'm a tactile person, so the sleeve's fabric is high quality stuff- I really like the feel of the denim, very tough.

Environmental resistance, water, dirt, sweat, puncture resistant from keys or anything like that?
You know what- I hadn't thought about any official certifications! Again, I chose denim which is great looking and durable, so I guess you can extrapolate from your quality jeans. Given the hardware though- I wouldn't say its resistant to water or sweat, but we built it with durability in mind so it wouldn't bend, the insides' aluminium instead of plastic, etc.

Wouldn't aluminum basically kill the radio signals? Thus using more battery and potentially calls/texts ect if it can't get a signal? This is what happened when I tried using a case with metal.
Seems like a decent idea, need a tester let me know I have 2 nexus 5s I can test with running both lollipop and kitkat. If you are looking for a beta tester just let me know figured it'd be worth a try whats the charge rate of the wireless charger? Would need something above 1000mah pulling wise. My current pocket charger does 800 and my home charger does 1400 so would like something in the middle but anything higher would be awesome it looks like a decent product.
