this is amazing because i was just looking a round and am confused on which odin i should be using and how to us it ... which file needs to be extracted and what is" pit file "and so on... also im in the market for a good tutorial.
dmx updated his thread with video of both odin and root ( kingoroot)...should be stickied in general section.

Ok, this is past my knowledge.
Can we flash the MJ7 modem over the MI9 in Odin? And keep root and everything else?
Or am I retarded and this just doesn't make any sense? LOL

Thanks beans nice thread and i got updated to MJ7

Alright so its been awhile since I last flashed a modem, which section of Odin do these get flashed under?

AP/PDA depending on Odin version.

Ok, downloaded the MJ7 full tar from the OP here, got an md5 match but it will not extract. I changed the filename to drop the .7z and it gives me an md5 error in odin. I'm confused, what could have gone wrong?

Odin doesn't see the file. If I remove the .7z extension it let's me place the file in Odin but then it returns an md5 error.

Are the full ROMs already rooted or are they as stock as stock can be?

Is the stock, shipping modem in the DE (MJ3) the same as MJ7?
And thanks very much Beans, for this thread.

Thanks for the response, @beanstown106 . I'm pretty familiar with 7 zip, been using it for years, but this one has me stumped. Check out the screenies below
I first md5 checked the file
I then opened 7 zip, clicked the MJ7 tar file and clicked extract
That returned this error (little too small to read, it says "Can not open file 'C:\User\Nate Phillips\Desktop\Dev\Note 3\N900VVRUBMJ7_N900VVZWMJ7_N900VVRUBMJ7_Home.tar.md5.7z' as archive
I then double clicked the tar file inside 7zip, just to double check and this program opened, so I tried to extract it through this.
It opened the folder I chose to extract to immediately after clicking extract and the folder was empty
Luckily, before I left work yesterday I downloaded the same tar from hashcode's link over on rootzwiki and it's waiting for me there so I'll try in a little bit, but I just didn't think things added up on this run down. Let me know if I'm missing anythingj amigo! Thanks!!

[Q] EC05 tar File

What all needs to be used to flash the EC05 tar file from Mammon in ODIN? What settings need to be checked? Do we need to put in the victory_8G pit file and the EC05 tar file? Any help with this would be great! Thanks in advance!
The only option checked should be auto reboot. Yes you do need to use the .pit file, and the modem.tar file should go in the phone slot. Good luck. Im using it, its working fine.

OK so do this and there will be no data loss (I know, backup always) then flash the new ROM over the old right?
Don't know what is going on in the DEV section. Seems to be a war or something. And Bonsai thread keeps getting closed.

Thanks, I only wanted the modem for now and never used odin. I always felt odin was a last resort if cwm ever failed to restore a nandroid, still never wanted to use it. Anyhow I still screwed up by putting the tar file under pda instead of phone, but thankfully it didn't matter....as I wipe the sweat beads off my forehead. :-D
If you flash a tar file it goes under PDA. .bin goes in phone. You did it right.

where can i download odin 1.81?

The 1st link in that thread, where it says "EF02 download:", when you download that, and unzip it, you'll find odin 1.81 in that file after you unzip it... same place you'll find the pit, and tar.

Yes just uncheck everything except reboot
Just wondering if anyone knows the difference between different versions of ODIN? I've been using v1.3 for months...with the EF02 leak I started seeing references to v1.8. So I thought, I better go get me some updated ODIN, and found this thread. So, does it really matter?

UCAMA4 sammobile

Just thought I would share. UCAMA4 is available for download over at sammobile. It is a big file and you have to go through Hotfile.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I317&pcode=ATT#firmware
Have you installed this update?
I did, just for something to do though, as it not so much an update as it is just UCALJ with the last two OTA's that AT&T had pushed out.
Is there a new modem?

I downloaded this as a 'just in case" backup in case I needed to return to stock - but, I am curious how you installed it. When I downloaded it - I expected it to be a tar file - but it doesn't appear to be one - did you use Odin to install? Or some other method? Can you explain
Thanks
After you unzip it you will find a .tar file that has a long name. I cannot remember the name but I know it is a long one and it is indeed a .tar file. And yes, use Odin. After I backed up all the files I wanted I did a factory reset, put it in download mode, and ran it through Odin.

1. Put the phone into Download Mode (Volume Down + Power when turning it on).
2. Load the .tar file into the "PDA" section of ODIN on your PC.
3. Click Flash
It's mainly a security patch and modem yes?
I have it running already via the OTA, but I think I'll pull it for storage..
Thank you OP.....g
You are welcome. That is pretty much what it is good for.

Here is a step by step guide:
Easy and sure way to root your phone - Here is s step by step guide:
After you have followed these instructions your phone will be in the same condition
as it was the day you have purchased it except with the benefit of being rooted.
Download the stock-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 Jellybean v4.1.1 T999 firmware: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556426451
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
(It may seem to take a long time on first boot, this is normal so you must be very patient!!!)
Good Luck!

The reason is that Jody (the developer) removed the new RADIO/MODEM image
from the rom so everyone including those people who have AT&T Unlocked phones
can use the rom.
If you want the original baseband/modem/radio cwm/twrp flashable zipfile here
is the UVDMD5 Radio/Baseband Download Link - http://db.tt/RgrCGufl
Only flash this if you have a Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 device and you have Tmobile service.
You can root same way as all prevouse stock ROMs. Install custom recovery with Odin and then flash superuser in recovery.

That's one of the main reasons I always suggest NOT to odin flash the stock T999 4.1.2 tar rom
but instead flash the cwm/twrp T999 pre-rooted deoxidized 4.1.2 rom which Jody setup for us.
People should have been warned about what you said before they allowed the OTA update to
upgrade their phones unless they don't want root access and want their phone to be pure stock.

Its all been covered pretty thoroughly, and all folks need to do is read! I know its asking an awful lot for some.
I haven't looked at jovys but there are two files that cause the recovery rewrite, and if he didnt remove them his rom will do the same.
If I remember right they are:
Install-recovery.sh
Recovery-on-boot.p
The second is wrong im pretty sure, but its something similar. Check my firmware thread and it should be there.
Hope that helps.

I was just looking in your "Firmware/OTAs T999(V) Official, Leaked & Root66 FW & OTA Updates" thread
and downloaded the "root66_TMO_T999UVDMD5.7z" which is the pre-rooted Odin flash 4.1.2 firmware.
The reason I downloaded it is that I just want to have a odin flash rooted backup of 4.1.2 in case I need it in the future.
I wanted to ask if this firmware includes the modem/radio in the TAR file?
If it does, what is the filename of the modem/radio file? (I need to remove it).
My phone is an Unlocked AT&T I747 Galaxy S3 which I am using with Tmobile service and
I do not want to flash the modem/radio since it will not work with my phone.

Modem is NON-HLOS.bin. Can't remove it, because the md5 check will fail.
Maybe ask mrrobinson if he can give you any pointers on how to remove it correctly. The steps he uses to create root66 would likely work to remove the modem as well.
Do you have the same partition layout as us? If not, dont use any of the firmware. If so you can always flash it and then flash your correct radio after.

What if I remove the .MD5 from the filename ?
I don't think that Odin requires the .MD5 extension, I know I have Odin flashed
roms a while back which did not have an MD5.

I am sure I have the same partition layout, I am using the cwm/twrp flashable zipfile of the pre-rooted UVDMD5 T999 4.1.2 rom.
Before I got the Unlocked AT&T Galaxy S3 I had the galaxy S2 which I used with AT&T network and flashed the
root66 Odin flash roms before and had no problems, but since I am with Tmobile now I need to remove the radio file.
Since I am with Tmobile now, I never odin flashed roms due to the fact that they all contain the radio file.
Mobile Odin will flash without the md5 extension. Cant remember for sure with pc odin. I may try it later tonight to see for sure. You can also deselect the modem when flashing via M.O. in case you didnt know, though
I am also pretty sure you have the same layout as the t999. I appreciate you taking the time to do it in a way that is safe and wont brick!
I do think you would be ok to flash the full fw though, just make sure you have a copy of the correct modem and flash it right after.
Ill let you know for sure about the md5 after I get home and try it out.

Where did this come from?
Something not right. File size only 100MB?
Where did this come from?
I noticed when I followed the link it is a series of 100MB files. And 1 16 megabyte file. Something is not right about this one...also no explanation as to any details.
There is an Odin package for this on www.samsung-file.com but I don't know anything about that site and how reliable it is. It would be great if it was legit.

I've downloaded the files, and extracted them with 7zip. It's the same files on the website I referred to, www.samsung-file.com. I've extracted the system image and looked at the build.prop. From what I can tell it looks legit and has a build date of October 31, 2013. Unfortunately, the bootloader is where the danger lies. I don't know enough about what I'm doing to judge anything by it and am a little too chickens**t to try it out.
It's each individual file, not packaged in one tar? Hmm. Bootloader should be unimportant. Anyone needing to return to stock and needing to use this would most likely already have the mjb bootloader. No need to flash it again.
Its packaged in a tar. I just extracted it to poke around. It's actually 4 tars and a pit file. An ap, a bl, a csc, and a cp.

As long as the files are in a folder or in an area on your computer all together, extracting them should make just one file. You typically do not see this with ROMs, it's mainly a media thing if you want to compress something really small but you keep the quality.
Dear Members...
the file i given here is original, that i used to one i747 which hangs at samsung logo.
Originally the file came with .md5 extention, i renamed to .tar format. Becauses in my computer md5 checksum takes more time before flashing in ODIN.
I will do this for all files, which is big in size.
And the important about this file is, it was taken from my support site. So users no need to worry....:good:

ok the phone is booting normally or the phone hangs at samsung logo?
and how do you flash ap, bl, cp files? a odin screenshot with files placed correctly would be helpful.

Dear Member...
file selection is easy. See the attachment...
Use ODIN 3.09...
:good:
So to verify, one could use this without bootloaders and it would not trip warranty bit?

Seeing the Odin 3.09 shot makes sense now. Thanks.
I used this tonight and it worked without a hitch...
I always liked using Odin to go back to stock every so often since I flash a lot. I don't know if or how this differs from the routine enewman put together to return to stock.

Do you know if this method trips the warranty bit? I'm trying to determine if in the future I wanted to go back to stock and grab the KitKat OTA, that this would be a viable method. I'm concerned the OTA might not work if the warranty bit is tripped.

You'd have to go in to download mode, then you would see an indicator...
