Xperia m is not bad smartphone - Sony Xperia M

So many people complaint that camera, video playback quality is very bad.but I dont accept this, using applications like procapture, camera fx are really good, and for video playback,i just trasfer 720p videos directly from computer, default player itself plays great.
What do you guys say? Or do you know any other better applications? Please share....

It is indeed a very powerful phone.. 2 years back.. my s2 used to run like this.. s2 was bought for 28k and this one for 12.25k
Truly satisfied.. Do wateva u want on it.. ROOT it make it more faster and efficient.. My daily battery usage is just 30 to 40% with normal usage.. 3g.. games .. calling.. browsing.. music.. movies..etc etc etc
I recommend -- MX Player, Default Walkman for music and Stock Cam

maybe for some people, but not for me, xperia m is great
I think you're right about the camera, we should use other camera app for better quality, the stock camera is difficult to get the focus

Benchmark result for Xperia m is greater than s2.
And battery is really good,

It is a phone which can even support high end games and the internal memory is the only thing which limits it. By rooting that problem is solved. Another issue I found is the display is not so vibrant or bright as That of Samsung or HTC and the home-back button coming in the touch screen I another stupid make. Otherwise it's one good for the price phone

Sony XPERIA M
The XPERIA M (C1905) is a brilliant little phone.
I bought one for my mother♥.
The main drivers were:
● Light (115g)
● Long battery life (1 week with her usage)
● Small(ish) form factor (124 x 62 x 9.3 mm)
● Good GPU (Adreno 305, which says more about me than my mother)
● Stylish design (Purple requested)
The Sony XPERIA M really is a joy to use. When all the above is combined into one package at an attractive price, it is a true winner for the average user.
And the real bonus is my mother likes her first Android phone.
She just uses, txt/mms, phone, calendar, email, WhatsApp, Sony Weather widget, camera a bit and the other basics.
I have root'd the phone and removed Twitter and Facebook and most of the other 'bloatware'.
Use SetCPU with screen off profiles and thus able to reduce battery consumption to the minimum. (Approx. 7% per day if not used)
I was pleasantly surprised I could get 109Mbits/sec real throughput on 5Ghz WiFi.
The downside of the XPERIA M is that it is unlikely to ever see Android 4.3 or above and any upgrades will be contained within the current Android versions.
The 2GB user data storage is an inconvenience for those on a rooted phone, but a considerable barrier for those with a stock XPERIA M.
The camera has a distinct blue tint on some phones, which is very noticeable.
The camera can still take well defined photos and we should see improvements in this area as upgrades are released in the future :fingers-crossed:.
There is no MHL support on the XPERIA M (C1904/C1905) at this time. This may change in the future either provided by Sony or via XDA Developers.
Accessories
SanDisk Extreme 64GB microSD card
MicroUSB 4-in-1 card reader.
Mugen 1900mAh battery for XPERIA L (which most likely will fit the XPERIA M)
Summary
If people bought an XPERIA M for the right reasons and NOT because they couldn't afford a Sony XPERIA Z1, the phone is very capable of providing the basic Android experience and in many cases way beyond Android phones with higher specs/prices.
Other phones in this range.
Nokia Lumia 520/525 - WP8, battery only 1430mAh, no NFC, Miracast or front facing camera. Same SoC as the XPERIA M.
If you can tear yourself away from Android, this phone is the big winner in smartphone steaks for the basic user, just on price alone.
Sony XPERIA L - Everything slightly bigger and heavier with prices still tracking the XPERIA M, but XPERIA M GPU performs better on smaller screen. Personal thing, but I like the looks of the XPERIA M better.
Samsung Galaxy Ace 3(LTE) - Ugly, A good phone in this range, but priced above the XPERIA M
Samsung Galaxy Core i8260 - Ugly, similar in specs to an XPERIA M, but with only an Adreno 203 GPU
Samsung Galaxy S4 mini - Ugly, betters the XPERIA M in almost all specs (both have Adreno 305), but more costly.
LG Optimums L5 and L9 - Mostly lower spec'd GPU.
HTC One mini - Over priced for what you get and no SDcard.
HTC Desire SV - Ugly, old GPU (Adreno 203) and quite heavy.

That may not be correct for a C1904/C1905 Android v4.1.2 device.
MHL is not listed as supported in any Sony documentation and that includes the White Paper.
Have a generic MHL adapter arriving in a few days, so I'll know one way or the other.

@ansebovi - That would be way cool if MHL works. As mentioned I have a MHL adapter on a slow boat from China, so I'm always up for a challenge. Does one know if the 'indo guys' where using stock ROM, or if they'd mod'd something to get it to work.
Either way if someone has done it and documented/observed it working, it's a good sign.
Thanks all for the heads up.

Should i get Xperia Arc?

As stated from title , im wish to get an xperia arc since its camera is good and used sony x10 , which was fun flashing custom roms. Just wondering whether there are any problems with the phone and is there customs on the phones ?

Personally, at this time, it's much better to look for a newer released phone. Probably a dual core with a bigger internal memory. But if camera is your main thing, then go for arc plus it's design is really a beauty. And for average usage, arc is enough.

And is the arc's camera still the best? My friend says his S2 beats my arc's camera in test.

Let's, first, see how things develop on the Galaxy SII/Galaxy series front. Apple has already got the Galaxy Tab 10.1 banned in Europe for copyright infringements, and it's seeking a ban of the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy range of phones in the US, too.

I have used following phones:
HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy S, iPhone 4, Xperia X10 & Arc
I can say that I was never satisfied with the ugliness of HTC & cheapness of Samsung.
HTC Desire was always short of Internal Memory, Samsung KIES sucks a big time, touch screen is aweful.
iPhone is good phone but not for me, nothing much to do
Xperia X10 was a good effort from SE but lacks proper updates.
Xperia Arc is complete package:
1. Awesome design (best of all android devices, even better than iFail)
2. Best Camera.
3. Decent video recording.
4. Great Sound (compared to HTC, Samsung)
5. Impressive UI & touch screen.
6. Regular updates from SE as well.
only RAM is 512 (not a major problem)
But again, its my opinion

In low light also?
I think this will help you.
Here is the Camera Test(Not by ME):
http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=3619&idPhone2=3621&idPhone3=3598
From the above you can see ARC have Good Quality.
In My Opinion:
Camera Quality is very good when compared to SG,Desire.
i was using the X10 since sept 2010 and i was holding out for a SE dual core phone, but the X10 was just too slow.
I just got an Xperia Arc used on Craigslist, so it price was good.
As for the camera quality, every thing looks good on the camera screen, but i haven't reviewed or taken enough pictures to make a good judgement about the Xperia Arc's camera.
However, from the few that I have reviewed, it does take better night pictures, but they are FILLED with noise. I have kept all the photos on my SD card. I used to have a K750 --> K800 --> X10 --> Arc and I just keep moving the pictures over from the memory sticks and you definitely see the improvement in camera quality, except from the X10 --> Arc.
If you can get it for a good price, I would just upgrade, sell the X10 for whatever you can get, and then wait it out for a dual core SE or have fun with it until you decide to drop the big bucks for a SGS2 or something that is WAY faster.
The Arc's speed is much better than the X10's but it's still a bit laggy, esp with a huge SMS history and Whatpapp logs...

Wow seriously? I hadn't heard that, on what grounds?
It was my second day owning an arc in the US. Of course I have been digging threads to find a way to easily root this US model. Also the new firmware update is not available for US. It makes me think, isn't the United States a big market for SE, why don't they have the US a little higher priority?

What you think about xperia S

So what you think about your xperia S and does it have a official miui fully working ??

MIUI is fully working, but comparing the SGS3 to the XPS is just wrong. This phone is closer to the SGS2.

but comparing the SGS3 to the XPS is just wrong: only in benchmark.. same resolution screen, with better color screen (imho), better audio (walkman v sgs3's stock , imho), better camera (again, imho, the camera hardware though, ), and of course the lightbar
bigger battery (and easily removable too) and bigger storage is nice though but the different in battery only bout 1 hour (with same usage) and i think the 32 gB is just enough (u can always use usb-otg)
and i havent found any mali mp400 only games, yet there are some qualcomm's adreno-only game (but if u're not using adreno, u can buy and use chainfire3d )
and u need usb-jig to go to sgs3 download mode.. got me in panic mode when i was modding my friend's new sgs3
so.. your choice
SE (or Sony) came to the market with a inferior product, I m talking about dual core processor and it is S3 not even S4, and 6-10 months late.
On top of it
1. Hardware is just wrong, capacitative buttons are not responsive. It is a basic requirement, dammit. And what good does that transparent bottom does?
2. They advertised 1GB ram and now i came to realize (bought it only 3 days ago) that it is only 634mb ram and 450mb is almost always full with Sony crap running all the time. I had to freeze apps using Titanium to make sure i have enough memory for my apps.
3. Camera is not SE good. I own Xperia neo and SGS2 and i feel SXS camera is inferior to both.
4. Neither Bravia nor Xloud is working good. Low sound on in call speaker volume.
5. Sony fills your phone with all their junk which you ll never gonna use but have to pay for it with RAM. Also you cannot mount as USB connection on MAC as you ll need Sony Bridge for MAC and if you use it you cannot use Android File transfer provided by Google. Sony Bridge is crap as file transfer is at awful speed. (Again comparing to SGS2 which has mount as USB for ICS as well).
6. Screen has washed out colors and 720p doesnt feel any good. Even LG and Asus has better screens. I had LG optimus 2X and own Transforme prime.
7. Non removable battery and no option for micro SD. If you have non removable battery at least put higher capacity battery or make software good that battery lasts long.
8. And yeah it costs as much as HTC one x or SGS3.
May be i ll have something good to say after few weeks of use.
-K
It's OK. First of all, it sucks to go into a phone store and only found 1-2-3 different cases for the phone. SGS3 got alot more cases to choose from.
Second, yelloy tint problem many phones got, including mine (!).
Third, the sucky battery. It drains sooo fast.
Also very little available memory after ICS upgrade.
So its a OK phone, not that good and not that bad.

Go for S3, it is a better phone than Xperia S in all the ways possible (maybe the screen is a matter of taste, but the rest...). Battery, GPU, CPU, Sound Quality (yes, sound quality, the chip that Samsung uses are really better, the sound of Xperia S is just OK, to be true it is worse than my old ex-phone, LG Optimus Black), camera (8MPX vs 12 MPX, its true, but the camera is more sharp, and dont make noise like Xperia S camera, imo a unacceptable noise), etc. The community is just huge! I don't want to diminish my fellow comrades, but Xperia S community is really small and with devs shortage (not complaining). I just have it because its the best phone i could get for free from my carrier. Not a bad phone, but far from be a incredible phone. In fact, it is not incredible in any area, but competent in almost all except battery (and maybe cam). A good phone and just it, a good phone.
Press thanks if i helped, please.
Reasons I prefer the Xperia S over SGSIII. Note that these are mostly subjective.
1) Xperia Timescape and Walkman apps. No TouchWiz. (moot point if you flash custom ROMs, but there goes the warranty)
2) Sharper, more color-accurate screen. SGSIII screen is greenish and fake-looking due to AMOLED.
3) Better physical build. I find Samsung phones to feel cheap and plasticky.
4) Looks better (according to my brother, the SGSIII is awesome because it looks so generic that any case looks good on it...?)
5) microHDMI + microUSB vs MHL.
6) Cheaper - in NZ. Xperia S is ~$600, SGSIII is ~$850, so it's a significant difference.

I have a lot of issues with the phone but I'm sorry you are on your own with all that. The xperia s is no where near as bad as you make it.
It's display is the best available. Viewing angles mean nothing in every day use and it's one of the best in direct sunlight which has more value. The camera is also the best available. It's not for point and shooting and so you need to take more time to get the best pictures but those pictures are the best of any smartphone. No phone has all ram available to the user do don't know what you're on about. The sensitivity of the capacity buttons are too low but I've used other phones where they have been too high and you keep hitting them inadvertently. You knew it had all its internals sealed in before you got so what's your beef and no it doesn't cost as much as other high end phones.
Back to OP, the GS3 is faster and smoother but not by a long way in real world performance. Just benchmarks much higher.
I'd say, go down to the phone shop and try out both before making up your mind.
Having said don't choose the Sony under any circumstances if android software is a big deal for because in that department Sony are notoriously very poor. Their ICS update was later than all their major competitors and is far from ready. It needs a lot of work still doing to it. It's slower than gingerbread with a lot of slowdowns and glitches here and there.

The Xperia S has very harsh treble and meh mids with the stock Walkman player on default equalizer settings, but it can easily be tuned to sound as good as a dedicated Walkman player.
I have an old S series Walkman and prefer the audio quality of the Xperia S.
I'm using a good pair of Shure IEM and a decent portable amp (not really needed) and the only fault I can find with the audio is that the gsm/3g radio tends to interfere with the sound a bit when I use the shure earphones with the amp.
I had a Galaxy TAB a while ago which has the wolfson dac and I never liked it (don't know about the GS3 but maybe it's improved?), even after tweaking the audio for a long time using Poweramp.
Also, the Sony Walkman app sounds far better than both Winamp pro and poweramp.

Well, it depends on what you like/want from your phone:
1) If you want the fastest android till date with earlier software updates/lots of roms along with external memory & replaceable battery: Go for SGS3
2) If you want an android with best camera till date, brilliant screen & eye catching design, and relatively cheaper: Go for SXS
I have been using Xperia S for over 3 months now and am quite pleased with it overall, no major issues so far (except for a few bugs in current ICS build by sony). Also compared it to my friends SGS3 & was pleased to see my SXS almost matching the real world performance of SGS3!
And yes, as aready stated, fully functional/official MIUI is available for SXS (myself currently on MIUI build 2.8.3 which fast, smooth & most stable build so far).
Also, i recommend you to check both of them out at local demo stores and then decide it for yourself!

Galaxy Nexus has its updates the quickest because it is directly from google and it is running vanilla android. It has one of the biggest dev communities and it is easy to unlock the bootloader for it, the gs3 is hard to mod and you need a special usb tool
btw, the xperia s is an amazing phone, it looks great with the lightbar and the performance is great, even with the snapdragon s3, sony knows how to optimize the software for snapdragon chipsets
Xperia S on Gingerbread was great but on ICS its crap...
You will be irritated by the terrible multitasking of Xperia S on ICS...
Its just a software issue n can be fixed...
If you want upto date performance and may be good software support go for SGS3 ..
Go for Sony Xpria S if you care about looks, decent performance (Compared to SGS 3) n can wait for an update to solve the ICS issues on Xperia S..

the galaxy s3 suffers the same multitasking issues of the xs.
if you need apps to remain open without them being closed by the os get a phone with 2gb of ram.
I had a SGS2 last year, went to the Xperia Play, which to be honest was an awesome phone, sucked the bootloader was locked.
Picked up ths SXS last month and I prefer it over the s2.
I have a friend with a s3, I think they are ugly and clunky. Its trying to be a iPhone.
Been flashing roms to find the right one for me, and its seems to be a hard phone to brick.
I use it for my main MP3 player at night (Due to ringing in the ears), it barely looses any battery playing all night.
Headphones sucked a bit, but picked up some Skullcandy and the phone drives them perfectly.
I'd recommend th SXS to anyone.

what do you mean by xperia arc s is not outdated? I mean, is it a good phone?
Go for it...
Well, since you are posting in Xperia Arc/S subforum, I don't know how much "objective" answers you can get, but nevermind, here is my answer.
I bought my Arc S about month and 1/2 ago, and I'm ultra satisfied with this phone, design-wise and function-wise...
I was in love with this phone since it was announced, and now when I own one, I'm in love even more.
What you will get, is one of the most beautifully and originally designed phone on market, if not the most beautiful and original. I'm afraid that this is the last brave and risk-taking design in smartphone market, but only time will tell.
Hardware-wise, you will get a little bit outdated hardware (heh, who could imagine year ago that we will speak about 1.4GHz mobile processors as "outdated"), but capable enough to run Gingerbread ultra smoothly, and to run recent ICS updates tolerably fast. After all, you will have phone with official SONY branded ICS, and it will not feel outdated at all. I don't know how big your budget is, but my vote goes for Arc S, as it is killer design-wise, and to me it looks much better than new NXT Xperia 2012 line.
Its a nice phone
At the same price you can find a galaxy s 2...choose that, there is a really more active ROM development support...
Then I own an arc s...and for gaming is ****. The same games work flawlessly on the galaxy s 2...

Hey.. I also switched to SE from Nexus S.. And I can tell you, you wont be happy with Xperia 2011 family.. Its got the same hardware as Nexus S and is a bit outdated. Also the development is far less in these devices than we find in the Nexus Forum.. You'll better chose Galaxy Nexus which comes with the same price tag as the Arc/S..

Pros: The best designed phone out there. No manufacturer (not even Sony) can come up with such a beauty ever again.
Music is great, Sound output is terrific and in-call sound is audible even in noisy environments.
OS look and feel is terrific and it offers plenty of features (DLNA, HDMI, built in panaroma) that many phones lack.
Cons: Hardware. The OS is painfully slow. Even gingerbread is not upto the mark. many on this forum have completely forgotten that the contact/messaging hangups occured in 2.3 as well. After ICS update, the phone became terribly laggy that we started believing that GB worked well. Trust me, once you fill up your phone memory with apps, the phone will die from inside! Ever wonder why people run after custom ROMS even though Sony's official UI offers more features?
Camera: Still camera is decent but the phone is just not made to shoot HD videos. Give it a pass. With ICS update, camera performance has degraded.
Final words. Go get yourself a phone with latest hardware. Sony Xperia S/P may not look as pretty from outside but they do exceptionally well from inside. The UI is new and phone supports many other features (All 3.5mm headphones are supported/NFC etc etc).
If your budget allows, try HTC One X, Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S3.
Or wait for the 2012-13 series of Xperia phones with S4 processor.

Looks like Sony have answered your/our prayers! the new Xperia line has arc design and better build quality and the benchmarks are now showing them as better performers than most flagships out there. The Dual Core S4 has an upper hand over Quad Cores. Go get yourself an Xperia T/TX. Xperia V is overpriced.
No one can beat Sony in design!
+1 , Xperia TX has the same design as Arc S (well at least it is curved as the Arc S) and its processor looks to be promising !!

Sony Xperia S (General)

The Sony Xperia S is a fantastic phone with great features. It is a little old now but still it is really worth the price for all the features it provides.
The main features of the Xperia S are the 12 megapixel camera, 32gb of internal storage, a very high resolution of 342ppi pixel density on a 4.3 inch screen, 1080p video playback, and a battery of li-ion 1750.
This product has a beautiful design with the transparent strip which lights up as you turn the device on. The plastic that covers the body doesn't feel cheap in any, in fact it feels great and fits perfectly in your hand. A great feature that Sony put in this device is taking the picture while the phone is at sleep mode. You hold down the camera button and the phone quickly launches the 12 megapixel camera taking a beautiful picture in less than 2 seconds.
If someone is considering to buy a good smart with good features and a low price, then this is a great option because they have decreased the price by a lot.
You will without a doubt love the Sony Xperia S.

Xperia ZL vs Xperia T

Haiyo...for starter, I got both xperia zl and t..both run on 4.2.2...but worder why my xperia t is much faster and smoother than zl and picture more detail in low light in t than zl...both not root by the way...I have compare both, when opening apps and capturing photo...when opening apps, t is slight faster, the same when in browser..and my 13mp t more detail than zl..and it seem the screen is better to..I haven't do a benchmark test yet..but just wondering why dual core more easy to use than quad core...hmm

That maybe truth but the real thing about the ZL is that have LTE speed, support up to 64 GB mini SD, latest Android OS, NFC communication, 5.2 inch display (441ppi) running on the Bravia engine 2, infrared port. These are mainly the advantages over the Xperia T

Well, I know this but isn't zl suppost to be superior than t in any way...the advantage that you stated is software related but isn't the purpose of quad core is to be faster and more superior processing power than the dual core....well maybe because all of this new features that make the phone slightly slower than the older t...but despite all this, I just hope the camera in zl is more powerful than t, but from my point of view, maybe it's not...not even the latest update make up for that...hope another update will fix it...still love the zl though...and it's only 5 inch, not 5.2 by the way...

I kinda agree with OP. I have both T (TL actually) and ZL . TL is probably the fastest phone I have ever used - that thing literally flys. But after the latest update, ZL got very snappy too. Try the stock launcher in case you are using something else.I saw some stutter on Nova so I switched back to stock launcher which runs very smoothly now. Also please keep in mind that majority of these phone apps are not optimized to take advantage of quadcore SoCs and 720p screen on T gives it some advantage when it comes to rendering. TL display also seems to have more contrast especially if you compare the red Xperia wallpaper on both phones
Camerawise, my TL did take better low light pictures before ZL got updates. After the last two updates on ZL, I saw significant improvement in picture quality and I'm really happy with its low light pictures now. With that said, I was surprised how much more detail ZL (running the first firmware) captured in extremely low light situation compared to galaxy S4. It was a huge difference - night and day and things got just better after the latest update.
By the way, ZL is way more compact than TL (higher screen to size ratio), comes with two more cores, IR blaster, and FHD display, looks much better in my opinion, gives much better battery life compared to TL (more than 2X in my case) - So I'd pick it over T.

Well this is the benchmark result..the first two is zl and the second two is t..not surprising zl is faster but from my opinion the t is still slightly faster...and also only made the test once..
And I also agree with you about your statement, in the end, I also choose zl over t...thanks...

Benchmarks don't do a justice to T, right? They all are craps anyway - work only for 'expert' reviewers. By the way, you're not using any launcher app on ZL, right? I noticed a bit of lag on Nova after the latest update. So I switched back to stock launcher and it feels very snappy.

Yup, just as expected anyway...when benchmarking, it's seems they effectively use all the core for this result..so more core more score...
Like 7 said, maybe some of the new updated apps not optimized for quad so maybe for real life usage, it feels slower than more optimized phone even though its older..maybe more updates will solve it...
And no, I'm not using any launcher app. If I do I will be using the widget anyway cause xperia widget is to small and not eye catching enough..it's a matter of style anyway...
It's been a long time sinse I'm not using an android phone, so after I got these two and compare it, it just kept me over night, thinking..well, anyone need a snappy phone right..?

I first owned the Xperia T and switched to ZL because I wanted LTE. I didn't notice differences in speed, both worked really well. One thing I noticed, is the much better battery life of the Xperia ZL. This was besides LTE a main concern when I used the Xperia T.
Nonetheless, a used Xperia T is one of the best deals you can get (at least in Germany) if you don't need LTE and long battery life.

Yup, I test it and some difference can be seen.. But I also acknowledge about the battery life..I have test to watch blu-ray video about 2 hours and surprisingly it still got 85% more battery in it without using power management...I have using more android power devises and when I watch it, it will drain half the battery in this format video in that length...really love the zl...
