[Q] Magnetic USB charging Cable Causing Shutdowns - Xperia Z1 Accessories

Hi Guys,
I just received my USB charging cable.
But I was just wondering is this cable 1 way use only?
I noticed that if I rotate the magnetic head the other way and try connect it upside down it will turn off my phone.
Is this normal?
Thanks

of course
its the same like on the XZ if you ever build your own dock for it and you put the wires wrong than your XZ was shut down
you are charging a battery with + on + and - on -
and if you rotate the cable than youre going to discharge your battery
your phone noticed that very big mistake and shut himself down.
just dont do it, it will harm your battery
P.S. did you ever charged a normal battery? than you should know what i mean (LOL)

I have same problem!
Now when o connect my usb pt pc with normal cable he have behaves strangely. Very slow to move and crash sometimes the systemUI FC.
Very slow and always have the backlight blinked and dont charge correctly....
Is only me or have some people with this problem?
Thanks

Same problem here.
After plugging the magnetic cable by the wrong side, the phone literally died, and I had to charge it for a few hours until it came back to life.
After that, the orange led is always on after unplugging the charger and when I switch it on, keeps bootlooping in the Sony logo.
Any solution or suggestion?
Thanks!

For bootloop keep power 5 seconds and he pass to bootanimation.

I have now tried four different magnetic charging methods with the Z1s: 2 docks and two cables... NONE of them can charge faster than the phone drains... They just don't work with the z1s! (must be the different 3000mah battery?) Very disappointing to have to keep that fragile little flap open for the usb cable

Didn't work. The only way to exit the bootloop was by pushing the red button in the SIM slot.

HUH! you guys must be very talented, or have a very bad cable...
sony learnt thier lesson after XZ and made the magnetic connector non symmetric so that you won't be able to connect it the wrong way...
i have an original sony magnetic cable i took out from the charging dock, i can only connect it one way, if i try the other way the magnet and pins won't hold...
perhaps 3rd party cables are less idiot proof...

I have bought a couple of these Mini magnetic chargers (not from this vendor, the vendor I bought it look that its out of stock, but are the same)
It work great, and I dont need to bought another cable :highfive: just use the same, Its impossible to connect in the wrong way because as you can see in this pictures, in the first one pin connector its just in the middle of the hole (right one), the one in the left its a little moved to the left, just this little difference made imposibble plug it in a wrong way, because it doesn´t make contact, besides one side has like a logo, that always is in the same position to the screen, I'm very happy with these actually , the time to charge 100% the phone its about 3~4 hours

Hi,
I'm facing the same issue. Did you find a solution to your problem? What did you do to fix it?

Some one swapped used the magnetic charger on reverse
It shut down his phone. He didn't notice. He left it there over night. It damaged his battery so badly that it would only charge up again go 4%
Just don't do it

Don't buy those terrible 2€ cables. Good cables can't be plugged in in the wrong direction!

For issues when plugging the usb will make the phone unusable due to unexpected behavior.
I plugged in the magnetic charger while usb cable was plugged.
It will make the phone usable.
Not sure about the consequences when plugging both, Do it at your discretion.

Same here also. Phone won't shut down properly now. It just reboots and bootloops. Need to hold down up volume and power to reset then press power to restart properly. Made the mistake of trying to connect my phone at night without looking at the phone and had it upside down and backwards. Luckily I had to get up shortly after and realised my mistake. The battery charges but only by usb cable now, and even that is twitchy. I'm thinking of replacing the battery myself. Not sure if my magnetic charger assembly is damaged as well as the battery. Thinking of buying a new magnetic charger, battery, back cover and adhesive all together to cover all my bases. Not sure if worth the effort if the bootloops are software related (already flashed new ftf files and started from scratch - didn't work).
Sigh ...

The solution is replacement...
I reached out to SONY and it seems that when you invert the magnetic charger there is an IC on the MB that gets fried. You need to return the phone to them (Obviously not telling them that you inverted the charger - since it won't be covered under warranty then) and say something like the phone isn't charging using my magnetic charger. (The folks at the India - Mumbai service center were ridiculous and had no knowledge whatsoever about the magnetic charger, so I gave them my charging cable as well), overall it took them 10 -15 days and i had my phone back with a brand new Motherboard.
Hope that helps!

Yea this is the one time I would say its best to go with official Sony stuff here.
too much risk with the cheaper clone ones that you use like a cable since its sometimes anyone's guess which way its supposed to go and if you have plugged it in wrong enough times maybe the battery has gotten messed up or worse the charging circuit.
Id first try a backup full charge and fresh start of the rom just in case there is some sort of battery calibration in there, if that doesn't solve it then it could need service

hello i tried a mgnetic addaptor for microUSB cables witch when attached coud not hold but had a mark on witch way is up. When i inserted the addaptor the wrong way the phone gave a black screen and needed a reboot once i didnt notice that it is the wrong whay and it didnt whant to charge unless i let it fully discharge and then use the original microUSB cable and worked fine after that. I whanted a magnetic cabel for my phone but coudnt afford the verry verry expensive Sony OEM cabel (its worth more than 50 USD whare i live) so i both this guy http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Magn...-for-Sony-Xperia-Z3-Z2-Z1---Black-338682.html works like a charm is cheep and free delivery (to verywhare) and its hard to plug it in the wrong way as it is not semetric.

How much moisture do you think it takes to short out an electrical circuit?
For water to have gotten in the case far enough to damage the battery, it would have ruined more than that.
Did the phone stay on after you dropped it? Then no, it's not your battery.
Have you tried just letting the phone sit, off, and dry out, before trying it again?

Hi thanks 4 ur reply yes the phone stayed on after it was working fine till I put the charging in it. It would not charge the battery.
Just let it sit out over night...take the back cover off and battery out and just let it sit around...or if you have a blow dryer you can try that but dont put it to close

Good advice, but I'll just amend it to say ... ONLY when the battery is OUT. In fact, be sure to give it a few minutes after trying that before booting it back up. And, only point it at the back cover, it could easily have negative effects on the screen.
Hi appreciate the help everyone yeah I left battery out last night it still won't charge this morning, I am using the usb to adapter that came with the phone 2 charge it. This happen once with my HTC 8125 & I had to get a original charger to bring the phone back to life no charger will charge it but the original after u can use anyone, I will update u later and c how that worked out.
Hi guys on found this online on ppctechs.com it says "In some cases, your HTC Touch Pro 2 will not charge from an AC/DC adapter or other charging accessory when the battery life is below 30 percent."
Are you trying to charge from a USB port or an AC adapter?
Maybe the USB port is bad.
Do you have another charger to try?

Hi I try usb to adapter that came with the phone 3 different wall chargers and still not charging, last 2 try is a car charger don't have one and there is 1 ft of snow outside
Hi I ordered a new battery & a battery wall charger off ebay when I get it I will update u on how things when.
Hi I got the wall charger battery is fine I think I have a faulty usb port cuz the phone still won't charge or connect via usb can it be u need software to charge
have the same issue (didnt drop it in snow though) it won't charge via usb or car charger.
So you got a new battery and still won't charge via USB?
Mine connects to my pc fine, just doesn't charge. Ordered a new mugen power 1800mah battery, waiting for it to get here to see if its a battery problem.
yeah still don't charge plus it is in a bootloader loop think it is a hardware problem with the usb port
I know that, for example, the iPhone has about 4 moisture sensors, one inside the USB connector port, one in the headphone jack, and 2 inside the phone, the last 2 will trigger things like reboots or even blocking the charge. Put the phone in silica gel or, more convenient, a bag with dry rice (that's how I've saved my old lg vu) for couple of days...

Have you tried plugging it into the mains (wall) charger and let it sit for a while?
That fixed my bootloader loop, turns out the battery was too weak to power the device on that it went to bootloader. I Just plugged it into the wall charger and ignored it, came back and it was working fine and charging.
But it won't charge via usb or car charger
I had the same loop problem but mine never recovered. Never dropped it in anything wet either. I let it die once and could never get it to turn all the way back on because it would just try to boot and then shut off again over and over. Had to send it back for a new phone. If its new enough and there is no water damage marks then I would send it back for a new one.
Hi everyone phone is fix now it was a bad usb port that was causing the bootloader loop so protected your usb port.
I have a problem with my USB port too. Nope, no snow. Just realized one day why my internet kept getting disconnected. It's because the USB connection was the problem. Jiggling it around gets the orange (or green when battery is full) light to come on and computer will recognize it... or it starts charging from wall charger. I think the phone's USB connection is bad. Is this a common problem with this phone?

It seems to be yes, I've seen quite a number of people who've had this type of problem on the Rhodium end up finding out it was a bad USB port on the phone...I think HTC just might have used ones that weren't nearly sturdy enough.

Not charging anywhere near 1A using official SGS3 charger according to my ammeter?!

Using the official SGS3 Samsung charger & micro usb cable that came with my SGS3, I plugged a male to female USB cable that I had spliced so I could check current, voltage, etc of various usb devices. Anyway, I put my ammeter in series with the + power (red) line and I'm only seeing around 200-250ma on my meter! What is going on here? I've tried this with another meter (with the same result) so it doesn't seem to be anything wrong with my ammeters. Also, my phone was at 37% battery last time I tried this.
Here's a picture of how I have it setup...charger on the left, usb cable going to phone on right, ammeter is attached to the alligator clips.

I had same problem and it was just the longer USB cable I used that couldn't handle the full 1A current, so just try another.
your setup is wrong.
you are seeing what the charger is supplying, MINUS what the phone is taking.

Huh? How so? My ammeter is in series between the charger and the phone. Any current drawn from the charger would pass through the ammeter, no? The phone is drawing the current from the charger, if the phone isn't "taking" all the current, then what could possibly be drawing this additional current you speak of, from the charger?

umm.. please pardon my outrage, but did you spend the few milliseconds required to read his post before replying?
If he's running his meter inline on the USB +5v wire, it's only measuring the current flowing across that wire - regardless of what that current is being used for.
On the other hand, I do think there's a typo in his message: probably should be 200-250mA - not maH... maH would be a capacity, not a current.
To the OP:
You should be seeing around 900-950mA in the case of the stock wall charger. Can you try the same test using a standard computer USB port? Does your kernel support showing charging current either in kmsg or via a sysfs interface? If so, it'd be interesting to see that. I have seen cases where the kernel THINKS it's charging at one rate, but it's actually pulling quite a bit less current from the wire (on other devices.)
It's possible that the USB cable your using is flawed. I realize that your post claims to be using the stock USB cable, but your photo is showing a white USB plug when the stock cable is black.
If the kernel can show charging current, it'd be useful to log that, and then try a different USB cable and see if the kernel see's a different current then. If so, it'd point to a USB cable flaw.
Another thought: When your charging, go into settings->battery. It should show that it's charging... does it dispaly charging via (USB) or (AC)?

You may need to short the white and green data wires together which should tell the S3 to charge at FAST rate. I am guessing the S3 thinks it is seeing a PC USB rate. I know this for a fact with my HD2 but probably our S3's are the same. Good you mentioned 37% because we also know that the charge rate will slow down the closer the battery gets to full charge...which means we cannot do these tests once battery is over 80% or so.
I can confirm the need to short white & green.
Disclaimer: That's is just what I knew about my old Captivate. Shorting those two wires on that setup could blow up your phone, so make sure you setup a video camera to catch the the explosion if you try this.
try using your original cable, different cable do get different results.

I doubt my kernal supports that...just running stock except I rooted it. Do you know if the stock rom supports this? Haven't had time to look into all the stuff needed custom roms, tweaks, etc. Another reason to start researching that stuff...arg
The reason for the white usb cable: I didn't want to splice up the stock cable...My setup is Stock Charger>Male USB plug>Female USB plug>Stock SGS3 Micro USB cable---Essentially a very short M-F usb A extension that I use for testing purposes. I also tried some different physical plugs with the same result. Also tried at different battery % levels with the same result. No problems as far as charging times are concerned using the stock charger/cable. Not sure I'm ready to rip open the charger and stock cable and show it to one of my EE friends, because I might be selling off this phone not too far into the future if the new Nexus is good enough for me...

Yes, I checked this, it says AC...strangely, it also says AC when I plug into an Apple charger, which as you might know carries specific voltages on the data lines as opposed to having the data lines shorted. Just to check that it wasn't detecting everything as an AC source, I plugged my my SGS3 into my Macbook Pro and it did recognize it as USB source, not AC.
Thanks, for the heads up on the typo.
FYI: My phone seems to be charging reasonably fast in practice - about 3 hours for around a full charge (haven't been able to do this perfect 0-100% because I use my phone so much so 3 hrs is a bit of an estimate) using stock charger/cable/battery (2,100mAh). I haven't really tested it much on other chargers but I recall it being very slow when I used a USB extension cable once (everything else stock). Also, last night I was using my SGS3 while plugged in and it was charging very slow as per my observation (not measured)...I was using it for close to 2 hours for web browsing, youtube videos, google play store, text editing, etc (no games) and my battery was basically at the same place below 5%, sometimes it even dropped to 2%. I checked the OS task manager and there didn't seem to be anything that would be draining the battery especially. I restarted my phone and it started charging fast again (while using). I wasn't able to bust out my ammeter during that time unfortunately because of where I was.

I've tried this, but according to what I've read and via testing, the stock charger already has the data lines shorted-this is how it signals the SGS3 to draw more than 500mA. Data lines don't really carry much of any current so blowing up or damaging a phone seems highly unlikely...though if you shorted the data lines on an Apple charger it could be bad for the charger since they carry specific voltages on Apple wall chargers.

Agreed.
Also, the last CONNECTION in the chain....I mean the one that physically plugs into the S3....needs to either see or have the data wires connected/shorted to each other. Example: the charger has white/green data wires shorted...it's plugged into a desktop cradle...but the cradle is wired to bypass the white/green data wires....then the S3 will not get the message to fast charge.
UPDATE: all the above possibly depending on Kernel? I say this because I am using a charger and cable that has NO data pin wires 2 and 3, but I still measure fast/full charge rate.

Try this to see if it works: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manor.currentwidget (current widget.) If your kernel shows charging current, this widget will show it (CurrentWidget.) I don't know which type of SGS3 you have (i9300 or a North American version?) If you have the i9300, almost all the custom kernels support showing the current. For the Qualcomm based ones, I have no idea. (My wife won't let me hack her AT&T SGS3.)

Then the kernel should be kicking the phone into higher current charging mode. Odd... (I never actually measured the current on the USB wire myself, so no idea what THAT might be showing..)
Has anyone figured out what the deal is with the S3's strange charging rates? I've seen some other people report similar issues of their ammeter showing under 300mA rates on the stock charger even when the battery was awfully depleted (one would assume a faster charger when the battery isn't very full).
Have you tested the charging time while charging through that setup? I bet it takes longer than without it. If it does... Try cleaning and soldering the wires together. I don't know what they've been exposed to or for how long, but even slightly corroded wires twisted together with oily/salty fingers could cause power loss and more corrosion. Then you factor in the alligator clips, the unknown quality wiring attached to them and the other alligator clips clipped onto you multimeter.... Could explain it all right there. Drain it to a known batt percent (say 40) and charge it up... Then do the same with your testing setup. Leave the meter powered on the whole time if it's batteries can take it for a real test of your setup. Then report your findings.
Sent from my SGH-T999
Your setup might also introduce considerable resistance with your ammeter cables and all additional connections made to messure. There can easily be extra 2meters of wire + at least 6 extra connections (usb --> aligator clip --> wire --> ammeter --> wire --> aligator clip --> usb).
But that should not account for 600+mA.
Anyone uncover this mystery yet? Any leads? I lost my official Samsung charger, so I'm starting to get desperate again.
resistance
Twisting the wires together is probably interfering with the detection of the charger capabilities. Try soldering the connections instead of just twisting them. Take a look at the specs on how charger ICs detect the charger and apply the appropriate power: http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/bq24392.pdf
Ammeter
I agree the resistance you've accumulated between the bad connections, alligator clips and the ammeter itself might be showing the phone enough resistance that it lowers the charge rate. I just finished building a little analog inline ammeter and I am reading just a fraction under 1 amp. I got the 5 amp meter from amazon and split the red on a 2.5 foot oem (knock off) cable. I wanted a short cable to eliminate any added resistance. All connections are also soldered.
Hope this helps mate

[Q] LTE Galaxy Nexus not charging, even after replacing USB port

My phone stopped charging, even though it would say it was charging and the battery icon indicated it was charging. I tried using a different charger and even bought a new battery. Those did not work. I then did some research and found out about the USB port problems with this phone and ordered a replacement cable. I installed the new cable and am still experiencing the same problem. Unfortunately, I am just outside the warranty period and I'm lost on what the issue could be. Anyone with a better understanding of these things have any ideas? Thanks.

I already replaced the usb port. The new usb port wasn't charging either. I guess it's possible that the new usb port was defective, but that is unlikely. What else could it be, the motherboard?

Hi,
I had the same problem of ghost charging, it started with phone not charging when connected to charger and then randomly showing charging...
Now discovered it causes vbus_tuna_otg wake lock, resulting in high system usage in settings> battery and not letting phone go to deep sleep, causing battery drain.

Re: |FIX|Ghost Charging Problem
No bro, that's why am asking here... reading all other threads, either u clean out the port or push the tongue upwards or keep using only original charger and it fixes itself...
An trying to use original charger only lets see what happens

Adding in a +1 from me here, had the same charging issue, replaced the PCB today and it STILL won't charge.
Not sure what the hell is next here, throw it at a wall and hope for the best?

I have the exact same issue. My GNEX shows the charging symbol in the notification bar and will connect to a PC but will not charge. In the battery menu it says not charging. I replaced the USB board and nothing changed.

I hope you're able to figure something out. My GNex is still out of commission. I moved to a Note 2 for my phone, but the GNex would make a great upgrade for my wife iPhone 4.
i went through this issue for 3 weeks before i realized that the usb cable that came with my phone was the culprit. i didn't think that it was the cable itself; since i had no issues with that cable connecting to my laptop. and well it also showed a charging state when it was hooked up to my car, AC outlet and the computer itself. i did have a spare usb micro charging cable in the car, but never used it. so i switched to this unused usb cable, and the charging resumed normally. in fact it chaged correctly within an hour.
to prove that it was the cable, i tested the 'bad' cable again over the next couple of days. it would charge slowly..at almost a trickle. on the third day, i went back to the new cable, and the phone charged quickly and normally.
i had already ordered a new battery, and a new usb charge port..but it looks as if those will not be used now-

I wish the cable was the culprit, but I've got tons of chargers and micro USB cables I tested it on to no avail.

I've tested different cables, adapter, and batteries. I have taken apart the entire phone and cleaned connections and cables. Nothing makes a difference.
The only thing I have noticed, and maybe someone can help here, is that under the main board on the top left side of the device there is a bank of gold components. One of mine is black in the middle. It looks like it could be a burn mark but could just be black marker. Has anyone noticed this on a device with this problem or a device that works? I haven't been able to find an image online.
I've seen several posts with users having this same exact issue. I'm pretty much convinced that it is unfortunately prob a hardware issue...Jus my opinion tho.

I spent the day online and on the phone with Samsung. They recognize that it is a problem with the main board since I have already replaced the USB port, but say my only option is to send it in for repair and pay out of pocket.
Its definitely not worth it to send it in so I'm still looking for other options.

[MOD][APP] QI Wireless charging for the Moto G

Hi guys,
I used to have a HD2 with a wireless cover and touchpad tablet (HP) with the wireless stand and got used wireless charging.
One of the first things I wanted to add to the Moto G was the ability to charge without messing around with the weak micro usb connection so I bought one of these QI Universal Charger kits from Ebay.

QI is a "new" standard for Wireless charging, it is the same method used by the Nexus devices, Samsung and Nokia, so any QI pad should work.
Putting all together (huge amount of work )
It's a cheap mod (you can get both, QI base and transmitter for less that £15) and it doesn't look too bad.
The micro usb plug is smaller than usual, and it creates only a small gap at the bottom of the phone (usb) where the cable has to be bended to fit over the battery. (it's thinner than the one in the last picture)
Quick MP4 video showing it working (save as):
http://tinyurl.com/qbpjv22/VID1.mp4
The male micro USB has only 2 wires (5v/gnd) so to be able to allow the phone to "detect" power and start charging you need to enable some obscure parameter (I said obscure because I couldn't find any info about it other than in the moto g kernel source files) called "floating charging"
I wrote a simple app to change the state of this parameter, as expected it needs root because it has to write into the msm_otg/parameters file to switch it on and off.
link for the MotoFloatingCharge app:
http://tinyurl.com/qbpjv22/MotoFloatingCharge.apk
http://tinyurl.com/qbpjv22/MotoFloatingCharge_v13.apk
I've read that some people are having problems finding a USB charge/cable that charges the phone, so this "tool" may help with that too.
I'm planning to do a "less obtrusive" mod in the future. Making a couple of holes in the plastic covering the usb socket (below the back cover) and soldering two wires directly from the micro usb to the QI transmitter, but in the meantime I though sharing this "mod" with you. (we all know how long it takes to get cheap ebay stuff from China )
Enjoy
EDIT: the new version enable/disables the LED while charging.
EDIT2: another new version which restore the settings after a reboot
Can you still use the micro usb to plug some flash drive or something else or in order to use the usb i'll have to unplug the wireless charger?
Thanks for ther app, a lot of people might have the same problem.
talk to a Mod., he should move it to "Moto G Accessories" and maybe stick this thread

Based on the images I found on the web, you have to unplug this thingy if you want to use other microUSB devices. The end of the cable looks like this: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Universal-QI-Wireless-Charging-Receiver-film-for-micro-USB-of-All-Android-Mobile-/00/s/MTIwMFgxMjAw/z/tpAAAOxyUrZSvTdB/$_57.JPG

Yes, you need to unplug the male usb if you want to use it for OTG or data transfer, but I normally do all wireless (ftp server/smb share)
I'm planning to put it inside, by passing the USB socket and soldering some wires from the micro usb to some pad. Still is not that bad, you can remove the usb plug without removing the case for some quick OTG . 8)
Has anyone found any receivers that have a higher than 1A current? I'm looking to use this with my tablet, and 500mA won't charge it well, if at all.

Don't trust too much the rating these charging things can supply to the device. I don't think they are limited to the 0.500A that is showed on the sticker.
I can charge my Nook HD and HD2 without any problem using these "universal" pads, and both are quite "picky" in terms of charging.
There will be no other way but rooting to fix this? Don't want to lose my warranty for this.

To fix the power thingy?
I think it is related to the power the base can provide.
I saw some video in youtube showing a different charging pad and it was working without the need of the "floating charging" trick

Dear dubidu,
Does this still work for the latest software update? I have a non-GPE Moto G which I rooted. I can use your application to turn on the "floating charger" parameter. Closing and reopening your application shows that the parameter is indeed set correctly. However, it still doesn't charge when lock screen is set to slide. The notification LED turns on but the battery icon does not show the lightning thing. If it's set to an unlock pattern it works fine.
I did receive and install an OTA update about two days ago. I'm hoping I can still somehow get it charging with the lock screen set. Anything else I can try?
Thanks for creating the application!

Hi,
I'm still on 4.3 (the battery life is really good and I can't see any reason to upgrade to 4.4), but I'm not sure why it will not work.
If the white led is on, that means it is getting juice (it should) because that is controlled at "kernel" level and not by the app.
Maybe someone else with 4.4 can comment (I'm trying to avoid it as much as I can

You are correct, even though it wasn't obvious the phone is indeed charging. However, the lightning icon is not shown and the lock screen does not display the "Charging XX%" text. This is why I thought it wasn't charging initially. It's like the device isn't aware that it is being charged, although the battery % is updated correctly if you manually display it.
I don't care about this minor issue though, there's probably nothing we can do about it. I am very happy that it is working Thanks again for your work.
I have the XT1058 Moto X, and came across this thread while searching for solutions to my wireless charging problem, and I am glad I did. The app works great with the Moto X as well after enabling it and rebooting. Battery status shows it charging, yet status bar icon does not reflect this state. After reading other posts, it sounds like this is common, meaning no Daydream while charging this way, but I am happy it charges nonetheless
Kudos to you dubidu. Until I manage to create a pin bridge in the micro usb connector from the receiver to coax the phone into thinking this is a normal usb charger, this app will do just fine.

Glad it works for the Moto X.
I also did the hack, trying to put a small wire in the usb plug to "simulate" the two data wires, , but then I decided to have a look at the source code around the usb/otg area, and found that floating thingy.
If I have time, I may do a kernel with the changes, so the "feature" it is active all the time, but need to redo my VM build machine.
I don't reboot the phone often so the tools is good enough
if someone had enabled init.d, here's the script that do the same as the app:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo "Y" > /sys/module/msm_otg/parameters/floated_charger_enable
echo battery-charging > /sys/class/leds/charging/trigger
has to decompile the app to know both variables. maybe i could ask those variables here, but it will be no fun LoL

Yep, you could just asked (it wasn't top secret)
but I'm sure decompiling it was a lot funnier
I discovered a trick how to charge with custom rom without the need of this app and without a lock pattern:
Set a lock pattern. Go to lockscreen and make the pattern 5 time wrong. Click the "lost password" link and enter your google account. Now the system has no lock pattern but still charges with the QI adapter.

Why my LG G3 wont charge or recognize USB if i plug it in to my pc?
yes i can charge it, but i need to power off it and then plug charger and after that it will charge
but i wont charge if its tuned on
what is problem?
is it something with software? software bug?
I use Nokia charger.

The only thing that gets it to charge is if I remove the battery, connect the charger, insert the battery. After it runs on its charging fine.

Also, what software is your phone running? Did you make any change in your usb pc connection setting?

Ok, more questions: Did it only start happening when you updated to lollipop?
wasn't so clear, do you need to remove the battery when using the wall charger too? And you get the same issue on both pc/laptop?
Did you recently start using the Nokia cable or have you been using it just fine before the lollipop update?
And if you wanna flash it back to 4.4, there's a thread on how to do so in here. That being said, it will wipe your device so make sure you backup everything first.

Chances are that it won't work without the LG cable (or similar). Nokia doesn't run android so I suspect it might be (part of) the issue.
Make sure you pc has the right drivers too. But atm it sure sounds like a cable issue. Could potentially be a bad battery too.

Oh thanks, didn't even notice!
Don't need the original really but an android one would be good. Any electronic shop should have that.
That being said, it's a shot in the dark. I can't say at 100% that it's the problem. There's a chance that it's a bad battery or a software issue. But since the LL update just came out, it was freshly flashed so I kinda rule that one out.
My G3 charges fine using the USB cable and wall charger that came with my Nokia N900.

well i know this is a couple months old, did you ever get this resolved? I have the same issue, although it seems that it sometimes work, I plug it in, and then it wont turn on, pull the charger off plug it back in nothing pull it apart pull battery put back and starts to work. not sure what version I am running its an older rom, never had an issue up until recently.
Am running some testing now, and going to flash to an updated rom and see if that helps.

D852 / CM12.1 Official / QPST mod to enable AWS
I'm having a VERY similar (if not identical) issue with my recently purchased G3.
Backstory:
Koodo D852
Had stock Lollipop out of the box.
Root+TWRP
Added AWS on 3G via QPST (confirmed working)
Wiped everything (but the modem, kept the AWS mod) and gone CM12.1 official
The problem I have is this: phone works just fine, until I shutdown. After shutting down successfully, it won't power up again nor charge. Doesn't matter if from the wall charger or from PC.
Here's the ticker, though. If I remove the battery and plug in the charger with the battery out, I then get this screen (picture from another user in another thread)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

Which is alright since the battery is not present.
From there, however, I can unplug the USB cable, put the battery back in and it will boot up just fine!
It's as if it needed some kind of "boost" to get going. Not very practical when on the road and the need to swap batteries arise (I use the original battery + 2 x 3000mAh Ankers).
Any clue what might be causing this? Everything else's perfect, but not being able to power up after shutdown is obviously a HUGE hindrance.
Thanks!
UPDATE: Well, I fixed this. I started everything from scratch by restoring a factory image. From there, I rooted + TWRP so I could restore the Lollipop full system backup that I had thankfully made. This time, everything works and I can restart the phone without problems.

I had a similar problem with my rooted nexus 5 after installing pokemon spoofing apps. Phone would not charge when connect to pc or be recognize by pc. And wall charger would charge it, but would not show the lightning bolt.
What did NOT work
-Unimstalling apps
-Factory reset
-Wiping cache
-reflashing xposed
- installing battery apps
What worked:
-Leaving phone on wall charger over night. When I woke up it was at 100% with the lightning bolt showing. I could not believe my eyes. It aslo connected and charged on the pc as normal.
